Cameron is the person you want representing you. It’s not just because of his expertise and experience, which he has plenty of, it’s because he is straight forward. Every interaction I have with him, he gives me all the possible options in plain language and describes the potential long-term impacts. He has also been very flexible and understanding, and has spent time with me that he didn’t have to just make sure things went right. Cameron cares a lot about the outcome, not just about his business. He practices with compassion, but yet with the right amount of determination and advocacy.

If I could give more stars I would. He truly is a genuinely good lawyer and works with their clients and the courts how every lawyer should. He is not a "money shark" that is out for your money and will not tell you false hopes or information that leads you to paying him more. He guides you and tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to. His prices are very reasonable and every penny was more than earned with the amount of work he did for my case. His attention to detail is phenomenal, he exceeded my expectations. He took my very messy and misdirected case a month before trial and read through all the 300 documents of heavy litagation and was able to present what my previous lawyers didn't and what I tried to do pro se, but was drowned out because I'm a father. He truly is a life saver and has passion for the cases he takes. I plan to recommend him as long as he is taking clients! Don't get thrown off by the casual wear like I did the first time, he's amazing!

I found myself between a rock and a hard place. After talking to Cameron during our first consultation he told me I would have a hard time winning the contempt charge I was facing and he was right. Even though I was facing a losing battle he fought for me with what he had to work, which impressed me a lot. There's no BS with him and he's not going to nickel-and-dime you. I've had attorneys charge me a quarter-hour for a five-minute phone call. He's very easy to work with and his hourly rate is extremely reasonable. You won't be disappointed calling him.

The title says it all. David and Jill worked really hard on my behalf in a parenting plan modification. It was a difficult case, and they both took a lot of time and patience with me to achieve the best outcome. Everyone that I had any kind of interaction with was great! I highly recommend them to anyone that needs a good attentive attorney for family matters cases.

I wanted to update my review for Mr. Lutz as I didn't include his Paralegal. Jill Conner as an aboslute superior performer. Her attention to detail, knowledge, and experience was unsurpassed. She really poised David Lutz for success. Here's my original review with updates. Mr. Lutz was amazing and he packs premium performance in a budget price.I had a fraudulent DVPO filed against me. My wife’s claims were untrue. She was attempting to use this as the common “silver bullet” technique used to get the upper hand in a divorce. Mr. Lutz helped explain what I needed to do in order to prove my innocence. I provided my evidence to him and his amazing paralegal. He helped me feel confident by explaining the process and what was to come. He went to court with me and calmly incapacitated the opposing counsel. He calmly told the commissioner my wife’s claims didn’t at all meet the definition of domestic violence. I probably didn't even need an attorney. My ex wife's attorney Bryan Murry was a bumbling, ever failing attorney. He was often scrambling for reference documents, and seemingly perpetually unorganized. To me, his performance indicated he obtained his education at a low-tier community college. I really hope he can get a new job and get trained by the best so he can succeed, as he was unscrupulous and unethically proceeded to talk bad about me after the commissioner had dismissed his case and publicity asked why he had brought this to the court. I fear until he gets help from a mentor, he will let down, and disappoint any client he takes on. He will willingly take money even though the case is not winnable, so I guess that's a good think. Using Mr. Lutz and Ms. Morfitt against him was like using a tactical nuclear weapon against Popsicle stand. The judge dismissed the case after agreeing with my explanations in my documents and concurring with Mr. Lutz. He’s still helping my divorce case and I’m hoping for another victory while keeping cost to a minimum. Mr. Lutz has been great to work with so far. He knows how what he’s doing and does his best to keep costs as low as possible. Mr Lutz, Ms. Morfitt, and Jill Conner were fantastic and I highly recommend paying them to help you succeed and the truth come out.

I appreciated working with Theresa as I felt she thoroughly represented me without having a gigantic attorney's bill at the end. She helped me negotiate the biggest issues and help keep the emotions of the situation at bay. I believe she genuinely cared for me and my child's best interest! Thank you very much!

Theresa recently represented me as the respondent in a divorce, and she provided me with professional excellence in the midst of a contentious legal battle. Her attention to detail, quick response to any questions and extensive experience made her a delight to work with. Theresa coached me from beginning to completion with the utmost integrity and honesty. I was able to reach a fair and equitable settlement in the divorce without going to court. I am so thankful that Theresa was recommended to me and I, in turn, would highly recommend her legal services.

I practice in a different area of law, so after much research, I hired Theresa as my advocate for a fairly complicated divorce involving children, business and assets. She helped me feel less out of control and was a very effective advocate. Due to Theresa's tenacity, we were able to resolve the matter in the kids' best interest and without going to trial.

Ms. Hunter is a well-connected (i.e. resourceful) attorney, old-schooled (think RBG, kind, balanced approach to law), thorough, transparent, and timely. My one advice for prospective clients is while you should make your own choices, listen and weigh carefully to what she advises — as she will present the law you as it will possibly be.

After interviewing a number of lawyers for my divorce I chose Jason for his directness and honesty about the situation. Throughout the divorce process, the opposing attorneys tried to introduce external issues irrelevant to the divorce in an effort to prejudice the court against me. Jason made sure only relevant issues were considered, and we came out ahead every time Jason worked hard to get an equitable settlement, working with the mediator to toss out ridiculous requests from the opposing party, and come to a reasonable agreement. I always felt Jason had my best interests in every discussion with the opposition, and set my expectations appropriately even if the outcome might not be favorable to me. Thank you Jason!

I came to Kim with a very sensitive case involving my children. She was very knowledgeable about the law and kind to me considering the circumstances. She was prompt with any questions I had and very reasonable with her fees. She was able to negotiate an even better outcome that I would have thought possible. I would recommend her services to anyone in need of a lawyer.

Mark is the BEST lawyer; he is the only one who told me honestly about expectations from my case. Not only helped me with my temporary parenting plan but also helped me navigate the legal system even in Florida. Only because of his hard work now I have communication with my children. His attention to detail and expertise in the field made all the difference. Mark and his team are hardworking and support their client. Mark’s guidance and support were invaluable. His contributions are priceless, and I am truly grateful for everything he did. Thank you.

Mark is my first lawyer who accept my divorce case and I was involved in a terrible divorce while my ex husband uses every way including the legal system as a way to abuse me and I personally am very depressed. Mark took over and really helped me greatly. I was very confused about which route my life is going and he was patient along the way and fighted my rights with my abusing ex-husband. Due to my own uncertainty of my life and unwillingness to continue the path, Mark and I part way and then I find another lawyer who is not very professional and eventually lost my case. I am very grateful that I had Mark to present me and believe he is the most professional, smart and the best representation for some one who has to go through divorce. Just want to express my sincere thankfulness to Mark and Morgan. And trust me, you will not regret if you hire him if you are also going through legal battle of divorce.

I came to Mark after wasting time with another attorney for the beginning of my case. Mark made me feel secure that he would fight for the things that were important to me. He never dismissed my feelings or made me feel like I was asking too much. He was balanced and gave solid advice from his obvious many years of expertise. I could tell he really knew his way around the block and I felt comfortable that he would guide and support me every step of the way. In the end he made sure I reached a fair settlement and didn't concede too much to my ex. His paralegal Morgan is top-notch as well. She was so organized and made sure I was prepared every step of the way. She was often times pulling my ex's lawyer & team along because they were so disorganized and behind on things. I can't say enough good things about Mark and his team.

My husband and I wanted to post a review for Mark McClure law. We reached out to many other Law firms and were surprised at the hasty manner of how our call was processed. We reached out to his office and had such a wonderful experience, all the people we spoke with were very professional, personable, kind and understanding. Our consultation with Mark McClure was equally professional, and he provided us with exceptional information and guidance for the predicament we are facing. Based on our experience we would recommend Mark McClure Law.

Hello all, Below is my personal review for the Law office of Mr. Mark McClure. In my personal opinion, I think Mark McClure and his office staff are one of the most professional law offices around. They made the process for us comfortable, smooth and Very reassuring, once I contacted them NO creditors called us to bother us and that is one of the things most people are looking to stop- the annoying phone calls from creditors or collection agencies! His staff, (Kim & Averie) were wonderful and helped us throughout every step of the way all the way to the completion of our case. Call his office and let them assist you with your case. ABSOLUTELY NOT. This attorney ruined my life. Hired him for a custody matter after my boyfriend and I split and I made the mistake of telling him I was going back to CA so he ended up serving me papers for custody. Therefore, a bulk of what I needed David for was approval from the courts to move back to CA due to not being from here & having no support system & my ex and his family sucked. As an attorney who says they are familiar in family law, you’re telling me you don’t know something as basic as the fact WA has no jurisdiction over a child who hasn’t been living here 6 months. Took 2 seconds for me to figure this out on google, and you've been practicing law for how long and didn't know this? My child was 3 months old!!!!! Then I point it out in one of our meetings & he says “oh well there’s nothing that can be done now, we had to say something at the first appearance”. So incompetent. Took forever to file any paperwork and sucked at communication. Then when I pointed out his negligence towards my case he got offended. Eventually ended up dropping me halfway through my case, saying he didn’t like the opposing parties attorney (you mean you knew you didn't have the knowledge to go up against someone who actually knew what they were doing). Who drops someone trying to fight for their child halfway through a case. Complete imbecile & wasted so much money on him for no reason.

What a Child Custody Lawyer Can Do for You

A child custody lawyer specializes in helping parents navigate legal matters related to the custody and care of their children, particularly in the context of divorce, separation, or other family disputes. These lawyers assist with determining custody arrangements, drafting parenting plans, and advocating for your rights in court. They also help resolve disputes over physical custody (where the child lives), legal custody (who makes decisions for the child), visitation rights, and modifications to existing custody orders.

Whether you're going through a divorce or need to change an existing custody arrangement, a child custody lawyer can help you understand your rights and protect your child's best interests throughout the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Child Custody Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child custody lawyer in several situations, especially when disputes arise or complex legal issues affect your parental rights. Some common reasons to hire a child custody lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: If you're going through a divorce or separation and need to establish custody and visitation arrangements, a lawyer can help ensure the custody order reflects your child's best interests.
  • Disputed custody cases: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody or visitation terms, a lawyer can advocate for your rights in court and help you develop a strong case.
  • Modification of custody orders: If you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to changes in circumstances (e.g., relocation, changes in the child’s needs), a lawyer can help file a modification request.
  • Parental alienation: If the other parent is interfering with your relationship with your child, a lawyer can help address these issues through legal action.
  • Domestic violence or abuse: If there is a history of domestic violence or abuse, a lawyer can help protect you and your child by requesting restraining orders and advocating for appropriate custody arrangements.
  • Grandparent or third-party custody: If you are a grandparent or another relative seeking custody or visitation rights, a lawyer can guide you through the legal process.
  • Paternity disputes: In cases where paternity is in question, a lawyer can assist with establishing or challenging paternity, which may affect custody and visitation rights.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help protect your parental rights and ensure that the custody arrangement is in your child's best interests.

What Does a Child Custody Lawyer Do?

A child custody lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents resolve custody disputes and secure favorable custody arrangements for their children. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing custody petitions: Helping you file the necessary paperwork to request custody or visitation rights and ensuring all legal procedures are followed.
  • Negotiating custody agreements: Assisting in negotiating custody and visitation arrangements, often working toward a mutually beneficial parenting plan without going to court.
  • Representing you in court: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody terms, representing you in court by presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Drafting parenting plans: Helping you draft a comprehensive parenting plan that outlines the schedule for physical custody, decision-making responsibilities, and visitation.
  • Handling child support issues: Assisting with related issues such as child support, ensuring that financial obligations are properly calculated and enforced.
  • Modifying custody orders: Helping you request a modification from the court if you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to significant life changes.
  • Mediating custody disputes: Acting as a mediator to help both parents reach an agreement on custody and visitation without the need for litigation.

How Are Child Custody Lawyers Paid?

Child custody lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case, the time involved, and the nature of the legal work. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child custody lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location. The total cost depends on the time spent preparing documents, negotiating, and representing you in court.
  • Flat fee: For simple custody matters or uncontested custody agreements, some lawyers may offer a flat fee for specific services, such as drafting a parenting plan or filing a custody petition.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount varies based on the expected complexity and duration of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers may offer reduced fees or pro bono (free) services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in cases involving domestic violence or other serious issues.

It’s important to discuss fees and payment arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are included.

How Much Does a Child Custody Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child custody lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, whether it’s contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested custody cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and any negotiations.
  • Contested custody cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $40,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the issues, the need for expert testimony, and the time spent in litigation.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or complex custody disputes.
  • Mediation services: If both parents agree to work through mediation, costs typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more for the mediation process.

Always ask for a clear cost estimate during your consultation to ensure that you understand the total legal fees and payment structure.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Custody Lawyer

Before hiring a child custody lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Some key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child custody cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your case involves complex issues like domestic violence, relocation, or paternity disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees for certain services, or requires a retainer, and ask for an estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline from filing the petition to reaching an agreement or going to trial.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. Can we pursue mediation or alternative dispute resolution?
Ask whether the lawyer recommends mediation or other forms of dispute resolution to avoid a lengthy court battle.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Custody Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child custody lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and child custody cases.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge the lawyer’s professionalism and success in child custody matters.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on custody cases.
  • Check for certifications: Look for lawyers who are board-certified in family law or have memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) or local family law sections.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a child custody lawyer, come prepared with relevant documents and information:

  • Court orders or existing custody agreements: Bring copies of any existing custody or visitation orders for the lawyer to review.
  • Communication with the other parent: Provide copies of emails, texts, or letters regarding custody, visitation, or disputes.
  • List of your child’s needs: Prepare a list of your child’s specific needs, such as medical care, education, and extracurricular activities.
  • Timeline of the case: Outline key events related to your custody case, including changes in living situations or parental involvement.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the custody process, legal fees, and the lawyer’s strategy for your case.

By being well-prepared, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible advice for protecting your rights and your child’s well-being.
