I recently worked with David and Carly for my divorce case. Their communication was professional and timely, his rates were reasonable, and he represented me well in the way I wanted to be represented, while also looking out for my well-being. David consistently took the high-road whenever given the choice to go low. David holds himself with high integrity in his work.

David, and everyone @ his office were great. David picked up for another Attorney, and handle things fast and with confidence. I think they did more than the average attorney.

I hired David Braswell as my attorney while going through my separation, which turned into a divorce, and needed a parenting plan, child support, etc. He took the time to respond to any questions I had or expressed concerns about and help me understand the legal process. He accurately forecasted how my situation would result and that helped me mentally and emotionally. He updated me regularly with any changes. Overall I found David to be very easy to communicate with, professional, knowledgeable, and sympathetic.

Hands down the best law firm out there! I contacted Attorney Scott Marlow last minute and he was by far, the friendliest, most helpful attorney in the area. Scott Marlow and his paralegal, Deborah Long, acted swiftly and effectively when preparing for my case. Perhaps the thing that impressed me most about Scott Marlow was that nothing was "sugar coated.” When you are in financial distress it is difficult to think clearly and make good decisions. He was very straight forward and told me what to expect each step of the way. There were no empty promises made just to keep the client happy, which I know sometimes occurs when seeking counsel. Scott Marlow and his paralegal Deborah Long made the process so much easier and gave me peace of mind in a stressful but successful outcome. Scott Marlow and his paralegal were selected on a recommendation from a friend and was some of the "Best" advice I have ever received.

When this journey began, I knew I wanted the best representation possible. I did my research. I knew I wanted to be represented by someone ethical, tenacious, well-respected, and who would be a strong advocate for me! Bonus points for having good energy and a great sense of humor. It only made sense then that I chose to work with attorney Scott Marlowe. Fighting against a narcissist (ex) for my current husband to adopt my son was not going to be a fun or easy road, but Scott was ready to face the challenge and assured me that he would give it his all. He never gave me unrealistic expectations. I appreciated his honesty, diligence, and professionalism. He’s also super funny! It was his sense of humor that sprinkled much-appreciated ease throughout one of the most emotionally exhausting experiences of my life. It was a life-altering decision to hire Scott— one that I am and will forever be grateful for. It is because of Scott that we were able to win our trial rightfully, terminate the abandoner’s rights, and have my husband adopt my son. Scott always made us feel like we were being taken care of and heard. Any concerns we had were addressed promptly. I never felt like I was in the dark. He and Royann Mercado Perez (his wonderful Paralegal) always kept us well informed. Scott’s presence in the courtroom is one that commands respect from both opposing attorneys and commissioners alike. I was proud to stand beside him and felt confident being represented by him! Thanks to Scott, his knowledge of court processes, his knowledge of the law, and for him being an amazing human being, the deadbeat’s rights were terminated and my son is adopted by the one who has truly been the father to him that he has always deserved. Thank you, Scott, for fighting for our peace and justice.

Scott was super knowledgable and understanding of my simple but complicated divorce trial. Being very transparent of the court and my particular judge, he gave me the skills I needed in order to have an effective argument. Although the outcome wasn't what I hoped for, I felt that I was well prepared. Thank you, Scott!!

September 12th, 2022 police arrived at my door to tell me they were investigating sexual claims made against me, outlandish as they were I immediately panicked because as everyone knows, once these rise against you, you’re pretty much screwed. I immediately reached out to any attorney and was recommended Vindicate law, I spoke to the receptionist and explained the case and was assigned Carrie Fulton Brown. She accepted my case. The path to freedom was long and arduous. After the arraignment they told me I was facing 60 years in prison. Many continuations later, my anxiety and stress were at an all time high. Me and Carrie never really talked to each other about the case itself except a few times as my case was entirely hearsay, but because of the fact that it was from a minor the case was stacked against me 10 fold. Communication with Carrie was very rough, as most people sitting in the hot seat just want a shred or a glimmer of positivity but Carrie did NOT deliver on that front in the slightest. But that was okay, because she was dedicated to working against the state in a screwed up system. Most of the beginning of my case I knew most people and even Carrie didn’t believe me when I say I didn’t do it. Later on I passed 3 polygraph tests trying to prove I didn’t do it, and only after the 3rd one when I passed it with the actual prosecutor / State did Carrie tell me she strongly believes I didn’t do it. She gave me the best options to follow forward and going to trial with a minors words against mine was bleak, Carrie fought for the best outcome, I served 0 days in jail, no fees or Fines, Didn’t have to sign a sexual registry, all 4 counts were dropped to a Class C Abuse of a child. And 1 year of DOC Probation in which I spent 3 weeks on before the DOC discharged me from probation saying my crime didn’t fit criteria of having probation as I was a zero risk person and this was the only thing I’ve ever gotten on my record. All said and done, I’m glad Carrie pulled through for me and allowed me to stay out of prison and remain with my family and to continue working she’s a tough person to understand and rough around the edges when talking to her but she’s nothing but business which is what you want in an attorney. Thanks Carrie for giving me my life back! 60 years was a long time to be away.

I am absolutely appalled by the complete lack of professionalism and utter disregard for my situation shown by Carrie Fulton Brown from this Law Group. I entrusted her with my case, believing her promises of dedicated representation, and instead, I received nothing but empty words and an empty bank account. She happily accepted my retainer, and then proceeded to do absolutely nothing. During the 6 months period she was my attorney, before her withdrawal, phone calls went unanswered, meetings/appointments were canceled for no apparent reasons. No investigations were done on my case, she did not interview no witnesses, and the so called ”victim“. Furthermore, Carrie had the audacity to tell me I was borderline harassing her by calling her and her incompetent paralegal Lisa too much. She literally took my money and vanished into thin air. Carrie Fulton Brown is a trash of attorney. I suffered significantly due to her inaction, and I was left feeling completely abandoned and betrayed. I would strongly advise anyone considering hiring her to look elsewhere. Save your money, save your time, and save yourself the immense frustration and disappointment. She is a disgrace to the legal profession.

We recently worked with Hannah Roland on our Will and Estate Planning for our blended family. She made the process easy, straightforward and not as stressful as it may seem. Her fees were transparent and there were no surprises when we had all of our paperwork done. Talking about or planning for life after death is not the most exciting task, but her upbeat energy and personality made us almost forget the task at hand. She is very knowledgeable and was quick to answer any questions we had. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to do Estate Planning!

Hannah was everything I'd hoped for - patient, kind, empathetic and very knowledgeable. She set my mind at ease during the process of establishing a Trust. And Logan, her paralegal assistant, is also more than willing to do whatever is needed to assist and make the process easier. Both are a joy to work with!

I recently completed my estate planing with Lindsay Appleton of The Narrows Law Group in Tacoma. Lindsay answered all my questions in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Most importantly Lindsay made me feel as though I was talking with an old friend and not just an attorney. If you are in need to develop an estate plan, I highly recommend Lindsey Appleton and fellow attorneys and consultants at The Narrows Law Group

Mr. Groves represented me during a very contentious divorce involving children. He is very open and honest. He was transparent about what I could expect of him and of what he expected of myself, the client. He was available (literally) day or night by call, text or email. He was flexible and workedwith my schedule. He is straightforward but empathetic. He provided practical and applicable advice that aided my decision making during a very confusing and often overwhelming process. I have on numerous occasions and will continue to recommend his services . I am very appreciative of his help and should I ever need legal representation in the family court system again, will utilize his services.

Heather and her team were amazing. Heather knows how to diffuse difficult situations and keeps the kids and your wallet in mind. Heidi and Taneisha kept me up to date on all the proceedings. I really can't say enough. Heather stepped in quickly and changed the tone of my case. She came highly recommend and I interviewed a few lawyers and I am not disappointed, I fear I would have been with other lawyers. Heather is extremely professional and honest there was a few times she told me the truth that I didn't want to hear but needed. I would not hesitate to reach out to her again if any issues arise.

I hired Heather to represent me when I was in the middle of an emotional and contested separation. My case involved many moving parts, including a spouse in the military, a military deployment and subsequent relocation, a long distance child custody agreement, and my own personal out of state relocation - all happening mid-divorce. My spouse would continue to throw scare tactics my way in an effort to stop divorce proceedings. Heather would quickly remind me to focus on the facts and not worry about all the extra stuff. My favorite quote from Heather was "I will tell you when you need to worry, and now is not the time." I used that phrase as my guiding principle the whole way through the process. Heather is factual, confident, to the point, responsive, and she knows her stuff. I always felt that Heather had my best interest in mind, and appreciated that she would focus on the best path forward while respecting my own personal desires. I highly recommend Heather for any family law issues you may need assistance with. She and her legal team are great! Thank you, Heather!

Heather is an amazing attorney. I'm military and my daughters mother is also which increases the difficulty of the case in my opinion. I was trying to keep my daughter in Washington where she attends school while my ex-wife was set on returning from overseas and moving out of state with her. The original divorce case was occurred out of state which further complicated things. Heather was able to get everything I was asking which ultimately benefited my daughter the most. I will always recommend Heather as an attorney to anyone I know dealing family law issues.

After my wife filed for divorce, I had no idea what to expect. Wendy was recommended to me by a friend, and I could not have been happier with the service provided. From the outset, Wendy put my mind at ease and walked me through the process at each and every step. When comparing the documents prepared by Wendy to the documents prepared by the opposing attorney, I could tell that Wendy was a true professional. The extra time that Wendy put into these documents, as well as the time she spent reviewing with me showed that she cared for the outcome, and had the best interest of myself and my daughters at heart. The outcome from the divorce was way better than I expected, and I have Wendy to thank for that. I would not hesitate in recommending Wendy to anyone who is going through the painful process of divorce.

Divorces are stressful, emotional, a financial burden and there are legal aspects that just don’t make sense or seem fair. I tried representing myself only to find opposing attorney trying to take advantage of me, that is when I turned to the law office of Wendy Zicht. Wendy started off just advising me until I found a need to have her on my side fulltime. Wendy helped me navigate the legal aspects and got me back on track when my emotions took over. I can not say enough about her knowledge of the laws, her ability to empathize and all-around professionalism. I had a choice of many attorneys to guide me through my divorce, I know I made the right choice in hiring Wendy.

I cannot recommend Hannah Gurewitz highly enough. From the very beginning, she demonstrated excellent knowledge and dedication to my case. Hannah took the time to explain every step of the process in a simple way, ensuring I understood my options and what to expect. She, and her assistant Kristen always responded swiftly to my questions, even when she is busy in a mediation or in court, she would let me know that she received my email or massage and that she will get back to me once she is done, sometimes after office regular hours. Hannah was committed, leaving no detail overlooked. She understood the stress that I had and knew how to deal with it. Thanks to Hannah’s hard work, my case was resolved successfully. I will definitely turn to her for any legal need in the future.

I’d recommend ensuring that your staff.. whether a secretary, paralegal, or receptionist... has a clear understanding of basic client-facing information. Prospective clients should be able to quickly obtain answers to foundational questions such as: 1. Consultation Fees: Whether the firm charges for an initial consultation and, if so, the amount. 2. Billing Structure: Whether services are billed on a flat fee, hourly rate, or incrementally 3. Retainer Amount: The cost to retain the attorney’s services and the terms of the retainer agreement. Equipping your staff with this knowledge fosters efficiency, professionalism, and client trust. A well-prepared team ensures potential clients feel valued and confident in their initial interaction with your firm.

I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for David Braswell and everything he has done for me. After being turned away by more than six firms, I was feeling frustrated and out of options—until I connected with David. From our very first call, he stepped in with professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping me navigate an incredibly difficult situation. David’s diligence, expertise, and integrity truly set him apart. He not only took on my case but also took the time to listen, guide, and advocate for me every step of the way. His deep knowledge of the law, combined with his fairness and transparency, gave me confidence throughout the process. I always felt like I had someone in my corner, fighting for the best possible outcome without unnecessary costs or complications. I can’t thank David enough for his dedication and support. I will always be grateful and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of an outstanding attorney.

My husband and I hired Leslie after consulting with multiple lawyers about our complicated case seeking de facto parentage of our daughter. De facto parentage is a relatively new statute, and we wanted someone who was knowledgeable about this area of the law and felt confident navigating it. It was very clear from our consultation with her that Leslie was who we needed to tackle our case. It took almost a full year to get to trial, and Leslie and her staff were very supportive, knowledgeable, and responsive throughout the whole process. Leslie works tirelessly to fight for her clients. I received many messages from her well after normal office hours when she was reviewing our materials, and she was available for last minute phone calls during our multi-day trial to console us and hear urgent concerns. Leslie won our trial, and we are forever grateful to her for it. We would hire her again in an instant.

Look no further. If you can get her, hire her immediately! Jamie Walker was my second attorney in a complicated divorce/annulment case. After wasting money on an attorney initially, I didn't intend to hire Jamie, only consult her, because I didn't think I could afford her. She impressed me so much with her knowledge, even keeled and pragmatic approach, that I knew I had to hire her no matter the cost. She went right to work, immediately springing into action filing motions and advocating for me. She went above and beyond my expectations. Not once did she waste my time with back and forth emails that could have been quick phones calls. She only communicated and billed when necessary. This was my first time ever needing an attorney and here is the lesson I learned: When you actually do need an attorney, you cannot afford to choose the "cheaper" option. It will cost you. Jamie bills higher than most attorneys because she is by far the best, sharpest, most proactive, effective, organized, and brilliant attorney you will find. Her experience and working knowledge impressed me beyond belief. Without Jamie, I do not even want to think about the kind of settlement I would be paying. She has an impressive legal team surrounding her who are equally responsive, proactive, organized, and smart.

Jamie and her team are total experts with family law. I've dealt with a lot of family law attorneys over the past year and a half, so I have some perspective on this. Frankly, the majority I've worked with were incredibly unethical, super untrustworthy and just disinterested in actually following the law, but not Jamie and her team. I do not state this lightly. She doesn't back down even under a lot of stress on tough cases, her fees were very reasonable, and she's unbiased. She's the real deal, and she works in nearby counties. Don't waste time hiring someone you will just need to fire after they mess up your case and cost you a bunch of money. Go for the real thing. Also remember, you get what you pay for with family law attorneys. It's not cheap to hire the best. I feel that I got every dime of value from the money I spent hiring her.

We highly recommend Jamie Walker and Kendra Lytle. We had a unique case related to the custody of our niece who was a party to a dependency action. Jamie and Kendra were creative in their approach and skilled in execution. Their hard work resulted in the court granting our motion to intervene in the dependency.

After my attorney dropped the ball on several occasions I had no choice but to find another attorney. A case that definitely needed a seasoned criminal defense attorney. I contacted Beckwith Law, after my conversation with Cristine she agreed to take my case even though it was already months into the process. She immediately grabbed the ball and ran with it. I followed every suggestion she made. I was patient as I knew she was working for me, she kept me updated to all aspects of the case. I trusted her and her decisions for the way things were being handled, I was never left in the dark. She was able to get my charges reduced, an excellent outcome considering what could of been. I was willing to do the work that she suggested and she definitely went the extra mile. Hopefully I will never need a criminal defense attorney again but if I do Beckwith Law will be my first and only choice.

Beckwith Law assisted me in getting a no-contact order modified. It had been over year since the initial no-contact order was issued. Cristine's due diligence and explaining to me why being patient was best before the motion was filed. In my eyes it had been over a year since I was able to have communication with my life partner however, in the courts eyes it had only been four months. She understood that he did everything he needed to do and was able present a good argument to the judge to have the no-contact order lifted four months after his sentencing hearing. If you want an attorney who understands the judicial system and listen to their suggestions on how they handle a case Beckwith Law is an excellent choice.

If you want a lawyer who will hear you fully and fight for exactly what you want then Ron is for you. He and his team helped me fight for what I desired in this divorce. He was honest about everything and made the horrible process of divorce just a little easier. He was upfront the whole time and prepared me for the good and the bad through every step. I felt like I could trust his work and his word and to me that was invaluable. Ron and his team were by my side this whole time and I am beyond thankful.

I hired Ms. Tuxbury to help me in my quest for freedom from a mistake in my distant past. She was kind, understanding, efficient, and she got the work done more quickly than I thought possible--even with the complication of distance and a court that no longer existed. She kept me updated with every step needed. Now I'm free to live my life. I am most grateful.

What a Child Custody Lawyer Can Do for You

A child custody lawyer specializes in helping parents navigate legal matters related to the custody and care of their children, particularly in the context of divorce, separation, or other family disputes. These lawyers assist with determining custody arrangements, drafting parenting plans, and advocating for your rights in court. They also help resolve disputes over physical custody (where the child lives), legal custody (who makes decisions for the child), visitation rights, and modifications to existing custody orders.

Whether you're going through a divorce or need to change an existing custody arrangement, a child custody lawyer can help you understand your rights and protect your child's best interests throughout the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Child Custody Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child custody lawyer in several situations, especially when disputes arise or complex legal issues affect your parental rights. Some common reasons to hire a child custody lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: If you're going through a divorce or separation and need to establish custody and visitation arrangements, a lawyer can help ensure the custody order reflects your child's best interests.
  • Disputed custody cases: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody or visitation terms, a lawyer can advocate for your rights in court and help you develop a strong case.
  • Modification of custody orders: If you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to changes in circumstances (e.g., relocation, changes in the child’s needs), a lawyer can help file a modification request.
  • Parental alienation: If the other parent is interfering with your relationship with your child, a lawyer can help address these issues through legal action.
  • Domestic violence or abuse: If there is a history of domestic violence or abuse, a lawyer can help protect you and your child by requesting restraining orders and advocating for appropriate custody arrangements.
  • Grandparent or third-party custody: If you are a grandparent or another relative seeking custody or visitation rights, a lawyer can guide you through the legal process.
  • Paternity disputes: In cases where paternity is in question, a lawyer can assist with establishing or challenging paternity, which may affect custody and visitation rights.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help protect your parental rights and ensure that the custody arrangement is in your child's best interests.

What Does a Child Custody Lawyer Do?

A child custody lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents resolve custody disputes and secure favorable custody arrangements for their children. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing custody petitions: Helping you file the necessary paperwork to request custody or visitation rights and ensuring all legal procedures are followed.
  • Negotiating custody agreements: Assisting in negotiating custody and visitation arrangements, often working toward a mutually beneficial parenting plan without going to court.
  • Representing you in court: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody terms, representing you in court by presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Drafting parenting plans: Helping you draft a comprehensive parenting plan that outlines the schedule for physical custody, decision-making responsibilities, and visitation.
  • Handling child support issues: Assisting with related issues such as child support, ensuring that financial obligations are properly calculated and enforced.
  • Modifying custody orders: Helping you request a modification from the court if you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to significant life changes.
  • Mediating custody disputes: Acting as a mediator to help both parents reach an agreement on custody and visitation without the need for litigation.

How Are Child Custody Lawyers Paid?

Child custody lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case, the time involved, and the nature of the legal work. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child custody lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location. The total cost depends on the time spent preparing documents, negotiating, and representing you in court.
  • Flat fee: For simple custody matters or uncontested custody agreements, some lawyers may offer a flat fee for specific services, such as drafting a parenting plan or filing a custody petition.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount varies based on the expected complexity and duration of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers may offer reduced fees or pro bono (free) services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in cases involving domestic violence or other serious issues.

It’s important to discuss fees and payment arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are included.

How Much Does a Child Custody Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child custody lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, whether it’s contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested custody cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and any negotiations.
  • Contested custody cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $40,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the issues, the need for expert testimony, and the time spent in litigation.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or complex custody disputes.
  • Mediation services: If both parents agree to work through mediation, costs typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more for the mediation process.

Always ask for a clear cost estimate during your consultation to ensure that you understand the total legal fees and payment structure.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Custody Lawyer

Before hiring a child custody lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Some key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child custody cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your case involves complex issues like domestic violence, relocation, or paternity disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees for certain services, or requires a retainer, and ask for an estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline from filing the petition to reaching an agreement or going to trial.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. Can we pursue mediation or alternative dispute resolution?
Ask whether the lawyer recommends mediation or other forms of dispute resolution to avoid a lengthy court battle.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Custody Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child custody lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and child custody cases.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge the lawyer’s professionalism and success in child custody matters.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on custody cases.
  • Check for certifications: Look for lawyers who are board-certified in family law or have memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) or local family law sections.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a child custody lawyer, come prepared with relevant documents and information:

  • Court orders or existing custody agreements: Bring copies of any existing custody or visitation orders for the lawyer to review.
  • Communication with the other parent: Provide copies of emails, texts, or letters regarding custody, visitation, or disputes.
  • List of your child’s needs: Prepare a list of your child’s specific needs, such as medical care, education, and extracurricular activities.
  • Timeline of the case: Outline key events related to your custody case, including changes in living situations or parental involvement.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the custody process, legal fees, and the lawyer’s strategy for your case.

By being well-prepared, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible advice for protecting your rights and your child’s well-being.
