I both spoke and met Mrs. Kathryn L. Hudson she was very good at explaining everything to me extremely well, especially in parts I had little knowledge in. I am very glad and blessed I met her. She was most knowledgeable in my situation and still able to offer her assistance continuing after we spoke. I defiantly would recommend her! 10/10

Tre is an excellent attorney that was highly prepared, communicated effectively with me, and defended and represented me in a way that was in my best interest and the best interest of my children. He listened to my concerns and answered my questions. I truly appreciate how well he represented me and helped me through a tough time dealing with the custody of my children.

The Brad Hendricks Law Firm The Brad Hendricks Law Firm consists of some of Arkansas’ most professional lawyers. I am an old man who has traveled the world, and never before I have met a young fellow with the nobility I detected in Attorney Kitchen. I also had the opportunity to work with one of the most ingenious lawyers in the State of Arkansas. This gentleman is efficient in all his professional responsibilities and demonstrates an exceptional mastery of his skills. In these times when young men and women often have no social graces or respect towards their elders, Attorney Kitchen was very respectful in his communication with me regarding my case and never missed referring to me as mister or sir. He followed high standards of ethical behavior in our attorney-client relationship. I’d like to crown Attorney Kitchen as a Knight! Mr. Hendricks, it was an honor to do business with your law firm.

I highly recommend Val to ANYONE for ANYTHING!!! She is such an amazing attorney and woman. She gives reassurance and guidance, communicates well, reaches out, and does everything in her power to help. I went through a custody battle with her and after almost 2.5 years I walked out of that courtroom with full physical and legal custody of my three children! When I thought there was no hope, she never gave up! For that I will be forever greatful!!!

Valerie is a great communicator! That's the most important part when you're going through a divorce! My divorce was handled within a timely manner, and if Valerie didnt' contact me by phone, she reached out via email. I would definitely recommend her to you because she's the attorney who ensures that at the end of it all, you will know she has given it her best.

Valerie Goudie is the epitome of a saint. From day 1 she was invested in our step-parent adoption case. She didn’t care that we’re a same-sex couple, she believed in our case and she made sure every document was complete and accurate, she listened and put not only her work, but her heart into this case. One incident in the case we thought the judge may dismiss but she vowed no matter what we had this and she wouldn’t give up. She knows exactly what she’s doing and in the event she has a question, she checks it 7 times over. With every quote we received upon filing for the adoption she was by far the best price. Even though 10 months later we racked a nice bill because I emailed her so much..she’s worth every single penny. Aside from winning our case she was there for me when I needed her, through my panic attacks and my frantic emails to crying relief over the phone. My favorite moment when i knew without a shadow of a doubt she had our family’s best interest at heart, was when she dropped what she was doing on her mini vacation to call me and calm my nerves after a traumatic event with the biological parent. She talked me through each step to take and I can never thank her enough. I’ll be recommending her to every person I know.

Kendra Brewer comes highly recommended by myself and my family for her professionalism as she fought for my rights as a Father to share equal custody of my Twin daughters. She was able to weed through the negativity of the opposing party to establish and presented the facts of my case, which led to the outcome. I am very Happy with. She Stepped in as One of God's Warriors and Slayed the evil for the Goodness of One of God's Chosen 💯 My EXPERIENCE was Exceptional. Thank you❤️!!!

I’m super fortunate that I had Will Bond and Sarah Jewell represent my personal injury case. They really are genuine, compassionate and honest. I’m amazed at how smooth my case went and they are top notch when dealing with insurance companies. I was kept up to date and informed about my case at all times and all calls and texts were returned promptly. No pressure whatsoever, never felt taken advantage of, and I was given realistic expectations. I appreciate their professionalism and integrity. I’m super happy with the outcome of my case. 100% recommend Will Bond and Sarah Jewell. I will absolutely be back if I ever need legal representation again .

I hired Shawn and he did an amazing job helping me through this difficult process. He was always readily available to answer my calls, questions and even provided encouragement through my dark days. There were many of times, I wanted to throw in the towel and took my frustration out on him. Shawn remained calm and professional and made me see the bigger picture of my situation. In the end my case was settled through mediation. I walked away with far less than I would have liked of monetary value, but he helped me to realize the additional benefits I gained because of my boldness of seeing my case through to the end. Fast forward I am now running a successful business and grateful to know I still have Shawn as a lawyer on speed dial if needed! If you are looking for someone that is knowledgeable, down to earth and overall doesn't treat you like a number. I highly recommend you hire him!

Hello, We have a problem with a case you were supposed to take care of, driver name is mentioned in the email we were communicating. Every time we call, there is no answer and no replies to our last 3 emails. I called court to find out the case status, court said that you failed to appear, there is warrant issued now because you never let us know that we have to pay anything to court, we have a higher than initial fine to pay to court in the amount of 535$, which means you just charged us 500$ for the work that was never done to save the driver's cdl from points. At least never tried to help. We feel very disappointed and we ask that you reimburse our money back.

I have emailed weekly to check in and spoke with this lawyer on the phone sent my information that was requested for an expungement from 20 plus years ago. He has told me every time I checked in he has been in trial or zero time in the office and he would get back to me than he told me after I sent him the notarized authorization history form my papers have been started but not approved this was 7-26-23. I emailed him last week and he has still not replied. I also kept asking him to send me an invoice so I can make a payment. I do have a copy of all emails sent and received.. if your to busy or don’t want to accept my case please do not request personal information and pretend that your working on it I could have hired another lawyer by now and it would be off my record already.

I was involved in an aggrevated assault case in which every lawyer said I should take a very significant felony plea. This lawyer got me off scot-free. I have nothing but appreciation for his hard-line attitude and clearly demonstrable results. A++. If you're really ready to plead your case, in front of a jury, you cannot go wrong here. (If still in doubt, look up his recent (locally, high profile) lawsuit. Or better yet, the one in which he represented his mother...all is on the publically available CourtConnect. You will, legitimately, be in awe.) I cannot speak for the negative reviews here, but, as far as my relatively hopeless case is concerned, he performed in a measurably positive manner.

Everyone has a horror story about an attorney they've had and for me, this Attorney proved there is no justice in Arkansas. If you have a felony criminal charge and don't have enough money for John Wesley Hall, it's fair to say your screwed!!! Even told us once we didn't have to show up in court when we actually were supposed appear. This resulted in John Anderson advising us to "lay low" for the weekend because we were issued felony warrants that couldn't be recalled until the following Monday!! My husband was incarcerated for 33 months and he was told that he would get out in 18 months. Yes, I avoided jail time for so far but am basically chained to the door with 8 yrs probation time. I was also told they would file a lawsuit after trial but when it came time for that they ignored my calls as long as they could then when I requested my file I was told to sign a paper agreeing that they recused before they would give me my files back.

I agree with Kurt! These guys did the same thing to me!! All positive for a year leading up to trial. Paid $12,000.00 and then on the day we were supposed to argue for suppression he got scared I guess so he said it was in our best interest to take a plea bargain because the judge never granted anyone else a suppression and we probably wouldn't be the first. They gave us approx. 10 mins to decide and since he was no longer confident what was I supposed to do? Horrible about returning calls or answering questions they are not seeking justice for victims of crooked police and abuse of power! They won't stand up for you once it goes to trial!! If you have a criminal case- save your money and hire John Wesley Hall instead. 🤬

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
