Ben was incredibly fast at answering and replying to all of my concerns. He educated me on all details thoroughly and was able to answer all questions. His advice and ability to foresee potential roadblocks was very helpful. I highly encourage anyone needing a lawyer to hire Ben. I appreciated his calm but confidant demeanor.

I retained the law firm of Davies, Humphreys, Horton & Reese, PLC in 2010 with Ed Reynolds Davies Jr. serving as the lead attorney. He was responsive, worked hard, and was always well prepared. Mr. Davies was available at all times via email or phone and was able to obtain an excellent settlement for me without having to file a lawsuit.

Holland and Andrew are the absolute BEST in the business. I interviewed several attorneys before choosing them, and they immediately treated me with respect as a female entrepreneur. Andrew filed my trademarks in a timely manner and they were approved ahead of schedule! Holland is a mastermind with contracts and he has walked me through incredibly difficult paperwork, making me feel welcome and informed the entire journey. These guys are BRILLIANT, but what's kept me a forever client is how humble and kind they are (proving all "lawyer jokes" wrong!) If you feel intimidated or confused by legal matters, these guys will come alongside you and tackle it with prestige and class. I'm proud to call them my attorneys and look forward to relying on them in the years ahead!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I began the journey to trademark my plant-based product line in May 2024, and let me tell you, Holland made the entire process a breeze! 🌬️ From start to finish, he kept me informed every step of the way. What I loved most was how seamless he made everything feel—no confusion, no stress, just smooth sailing! 🛳️ He answered every single one of my questions with ease and expertise. 🧠✨ Holland ensured I fully understood each part of the process before moving forward, taking all the guesswork out of it. And the best part? I'll have a registered mark by December 2024! 🎉 If you're looking to trademark and want someone who truly knows their stuff, Holland is your guy! 🙌🏾

This is a bummer because, as you’ll see, I have not left a negative review in the 15 years of having my account: I recently worked with Andrew to obtain advice on a silent partnership contract that was very bare bones (a couple hundred words in length). I was surprised to see that I was charged $438 for Andrew to read this incredibly small document and provide maybe 100 words of feedback. (Will update with screen shots once I have redacted the info) I ended up going with another lawyer who was able to provide a couple of rounds of feedback on this document for about the same price and sharing me he felt I overpaid greatly for the services provided. To be fair, Andrew was thorough and fast, which is why it’s an anomaly this did not extend to his charges and the time he stated required almost 2 hours of billing. I hate to leave a review like this but I communicated this information to Andrew asking to split the difference which would have him still making $250 for the single volley of feedback but he was unwilling to work with me.

If you need a lawyer who will advocate for you and provide you with assurance throughout the entire process of a divorce or mediation, search no further. Richard has been a blessing; after sharing my struggles during my divorce and my poor experience with my previous attorney, he stepped in to assist in every detail possible. He facilitated a fair mediation between my spouse and me today. Having someone you can trust during such a challenging and painful time, like a divorce, is crucial. I wholeheartedly recommend Richard; you will feel like he is a family member. He really cares about his clients! Which is hard to find these days.

My troubles started 4 years ago when a detective from Marshal county set me up and proceeded to charge me with a felony that I didn't do. At the time I had no record or knowledge of the law. I just wanted things behind me. I hired a lawyer who was part of the Marshall county cartel and he just went along with everything they said. Long story short I now have a target on me because I bought a farm that Tony Nichols wanted. That man was trying to take advantage of me being ignorant to the law. Last I heard they were getting me on several felonies and sending me to prison for 10+ years. I then got in contact with Ross and he had different plans so I was able to walk out of the hell hole that is Marshall county court house a free man. Ross is so personable and knowledgeable, it gives him the advantage over any other lawyer. If you've been hung out to dry and see no way out from the corruption that we call small town Tennessee politics, do yourself a favor and get Ross Brazil on your side. P.S. the DA in Marshall County is corrupt as all get out. They all are down there and need to be stopped.

I had 4 tickets from United States Federal Park Rangers. They were driving off designated roadway, possession of tobacco by a minor, fleeing to elude, and speeding 95 MPH in a 50 MPH speed zone. The park rangers didn’t arrest me that day, but when I had my day in court those officers wanted me jailed. Davis got the court to drop all charges except fleeing to elude and I walked away with a $1500.00 fine and nothing more. I would definitely recommend his services time and time again because you can’t beat a deal like that in my opinion.

Simply put, I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Wall. As a law enforcement officer for over 20 years, I have had the opportunity to observe many attorneys in action. Mr. Wall is, without a doubt, the best I have ever seen in a courtroom. He was quick to respond to me on any matter I had. He explained everything to me in laymans terms without all the legal jargon. He never made promises he couldn't keep. He guided me through a complex case that lasted 7 years at the Federal level, including multiple trips to the Federal Appeals court. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Wall. He is the best I have ever seen.

I own a small business and recently, we had an unexpected legal matter arise that had to be dealt with. After a good deal of research, we decided to call Rick Sanders as it seemed like he would be the right fit for our situation. He was very responsive which was a relief during a stressful time and he was able to explain everything in a way that let us know where we stood and helped us with a plan of action moving forward. He was also very mindful with the time spent on our case, which was much appreciated as this was an unexpected expense. I'd highly recommend Rick and would definitely work with him again in the future should the need ever arise.

Got back to me within less than 12 hours of me calling in the middle of the night! Rick gave me guidance, advice, and told me I didn't even need to hire him at this point in my dispute. He is honest, up front, and attentive to anyone facing any challenge, regardless of what size or type of business you run. I am sure the same can be said for his partner! I will definitely recommend Aaron Sanders in the future and keep them in mind should I ever need legal guidance again.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the exceptional support that L. R. DeMarco provided to my mother and me during our legal cases. From the very beginning, L. R. showed such professionalism and expertise that instantly put our minds at ease. First of all, I want to highlight his compassion and empathy. He listened to all our concerns and explained, in detail, the complicated legal matters. His politeness and courtesy during the entire process made us feel appreciated and taken care of. L. R. DeMarco was not only punctual with answers and follow-ups but had a keen interest in the best possible outcomes for our cases. That is really commendable on his part with regard to this commitment. I highly and fully recommend L. R. DeMarco to anyone in need of legal advice or assistance. When further legal advice is necessary, I definitely know where to seek it. Thanks, L. R., for all your help!

We had something really horrible happen with my dad who actually started our suit and I had to finish as he passed away. Isaac Kimes was absolutely AMAZING and so great to work with in a difficult time. So grateful for him and Brandi Griggs-Outten who graciously helped us through. I will always recommend them for friends and family who go through personal injury or wrongful death.

As a person who have never needed a Lawyer for any reason, I had a situation recently I met with alot of lawyers and most of them were only concerned about the payment for the services they provide, now I understand a lawyer is not free. When I met Mark Downton money was the last thing on his mind I told him my situation and he got on the phone right away and started making calls taking it very personal as if I was his family,he updated me step by step so I wouldn't feel lost in what was taking place. He made sure I understood what he was doing. I never met anyone so passionate about what they do and helping people like a superhero without a cape. Thank you

Mark Downton went above and beyond on our case. He took the time to talk to us put together all the details, and build a strong case. He was honest in telling us what to expect and how the legal system works, and did not sugar coat anything or promise something that he could not do. He has compassion for people and it shows in his work, the myth that lawyers don't have a heart is so not true with Mark Downton. We did win our case and have visitation with our grandson's and we owe that to Mark. Without him I feel we would of lost contact with our grandsons. Our life is brighter because of him. I will recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone needing a lawyer !!

Mark Downton may be the smartest person I've ever met and he's the best lawyer in the country if you ask me. Not only is he a good soul he genuinly cares for his client as if they were his kin. He's not your typical lawyer, he doesn't see you as a bunch of dollar signs, he sees you as someone who needs his help. He's the underdog who always comes out on top. Why? Because he can out lawyer any hot shot lawyer he goes against...seriously! This guy is the geniune article. Choosing any other attorney would be a mistake. If you're lucky enough to him you should thank your lucky lucky stars....Think of him as the short Perry Mason or Matlock...only much better and actualy real. I would choose Mark Downton over any other lawyer in Nashville without hesitation.

We don't know what we'd ever do had we not known Nick Bailey. He put away 3 vicious parasites including one that pointed a weapon at my two children, and shot me. 22 years later we needed him again when one of the criminals came up for parole. He came to our aid once again. I was a stranger to Nick, never lived in TN, and he treated us like family. GOD bless this great man. Jim W.S, PA.

I was placed into a situation where legal representation was needed. Mr. Kovalcik was always available for any questions and concerns during the years long litigation. He went above and beyond on the personal level and really displayed his talent on the legal aspects of the case. He is a great asset to the firm he represents and anyone retaining him as their counsel has a hard working and compassionate attorney who will work diligently on their behalf.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
