We are contemplating a move back to Washington state where we lived for many years. Without proper estate planning we would potentially be subject to the Washington estate tax. n our initial contacts with the firm, we clearly identified that we were residents in another state. We were instructed to provide our detailed financial picture as well as our current estate planning documents which we provided promptly and told that our information would be forwarded to the attorneys for evaluation. The following is the email response.
“Thank you for filling out and returning your Questionnaire.
I will forward your information to our attorneys for review. Once they have completed their review, I will be back in touch with you regarding a quote for services and the next steps for scheduling.”
Well over a month went by with no word back from STIB. I finally contacted them by email requesting a status update. Within minutes, I received the following reply.
“Thank you very much for contacting our firm. Unfortunately, we are not able to take on your case. Our firm does not advise out-of-state residents on tax issues. Our focus is estate planning and long term care planning.”
The STIB website clearly tax issues as part of estate planning. I also found no restrictions on attorneys in Washington state providing consultation to out-of-state residents considering residency in Washington.
Needless to say, I was astounded by what I consider to extremely poor communication and timely follow-up. If it is indeed not their policy to advise out-of-state residents on tax issues, I would have expected to have been informed of that policy up front thus saving us the time of compiling and sending detailed and confidential financial and estate planning information. In my opinion, this represents incompetent and totally unprofessional behavior.

As someone who has no experience with wills or lawyers and doesn’t understand the process, this was a bad fit. It’s quite possible that if you know what to ask or what’s happening that they will be great for you, but for me I ended up with a $120 invoice for two emails I didn’t understand what to do with, going to look for someone else to help us setup out family will.

I was very LUCKY to find her and having had a bad experience before I read her resume and was very impressed. I also have had a positive experience with 3 Attorneys in the distant past so for me it was how hard she tried. I was in the most VULNERABLE position of my 75 years as I'm 3/4 of a centuryold and was about to have a HIP Replacement Operation in 2 Days of this subpeana and then have my left shoulder replaced after that so my body was speaking my words She overlooked my stupid words and realized this lady is old and she is a victim and about to have 2 serious operations. I so wished she would have been able to help me with my Shoreline case but she has to care for her cute new ;little person , He is a lucky boy. I recommend Leah Altaras , on every social post I see on social media in regards to anything they’re going through.
Leah is an Advocate for righting wrongs, I met her as a Prosecuting Attorney, and when my life was altered in an MVA I called Her for advice, and she was willing to take on my Personal Injury case.
I was compensated by the other guys insurance the maximum amount as well as my own under insured coverage.
At about 80% recovery, after a year of Physical Therapy, I was hit again, MVA. Compounded injuries, a tough fight, but Leah has that “fight” in Her, as do I, and we recovered well, in the 2nd MVA case as well.
She also has consulted with Me over many various concerns I’ve had.

My firm hired Jake when one of our clients wired funds to a scammer in a wire fraud situation. I found him after searching the internet most of the night and determined that he might be the guy that I was looking for to help us. When money is wired to a fraudster the likely-hood of recovery goes down by the hour, knowing this, I called Jake before he was out of bed, leaving him a message. He returned my call within 15 minutes, and I began explaining our situation to him, to say that he hit the ground running would be an understatement. He didn't talk about fees or payment, that was not his concern, he was interested in helping us and knew what needed to be done and fast. After gathering the needed information from me, in an efficient manner, he quickly got in touch with our client and started working his connections from his time in government to halt the further transfer of money. He had people assisting him at the every level of government including the secret service, he was focused on doing whatever it took to get our money back and he knew that certain people had better odds of assisting in that outcome. At the end of a long and stressful day, Jake called and informed me that the 109k would be returned to our client in the next couple of days. I am 100% certain that without his help, the result would have been different. Your situation, may differ from what we used Jake for, however it would be difficult for me to believe that Jake's strategy development, sharp decision making, connections combined with his willingness to take action quickly would not be the type of attributes that solve most problems.

I was so lucky to find Morgan Lake when I did. I bought a Jeep in Puyallup, Washington, drove it for 4 hours on I-90, then watched one of its wheels suddenly sheer off it at the studs. The dealership was unwilling to make things right, so I got in touch with Lake Law to understand my options. In 2019 I had a very tough immigration case and I hired another law firm and it didn’t go well, I spend more than 3k and finally my case got denied due to the lawyer’s irresponsible action. A few months later a friends of mine suggested to contact Amsale’s law firm. She was very kind, positive , thoughtful and a good listener. She listened the entire issue with the previous law firm, and what surprised me was her focus to resolve the problem instead of nailing down.
After a brief discussion and consultation, I hired her to represent me the same case which I got denied previously.
It took her shorter time comparing with the previous lawyer and successfully won my case. Not only that, through the entire process of my case with Amsale I was getting an update based on the information timeframe of each steps from immigration office.

Couple months ago I got into an at fault accident; rear ended a car. There were no injuries and no major damages to the second car, but I got a speeding ticket, that could increase my insurance rates significantly. I have contacted Andrew and explained my situation; it was easy to talk with him, and got clear answers to all my questions. After consultation (it was free), Andrew took care of my ticket. In one month the ticket was dismissed, and I got confirmation letter in my mail. I was at a loss when I was served papers by a debt buyer claiming I had opened a credit account and wasn't paying on it. I felt extremely embarrassed and taken advantage of as this claim was severely affecting my credit. Finding Patrick was the best thing I could have done for myself. He took the time to listen to everything I said, asked questions without judgement, and created a case for me against this debt buyer that I was deathly afraid I didn't have a chance at winning. Not only did he get the case dismissed but I was awarded attorney's fees, something I really didn't believe we had a chance with and is what I believe to be quite rare. More important then the money, this fixed my credit score. I would absolutely work with Patrick again and solidly recommend him.

My wife and I wanted to tell you how much we appreciate the work you've done, and even more so in how genuine and transparent you have been throughout the process. At the beginning my wife was pretty freaked out about being whacked with a six thousand-plus dollar bill in the event we had no defense, but conversely freaked out about what would happen if we elected to seek representation...we've never done that before and I think we both always thought that was something only rich people could do. So we kind of felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. I am certain that she took what she felt was a huge risk in trusting me to determine whether or not to, and if so who, we should hire for representation, and we are really happy with who we picked to do it. It is very true what they say about bankruptcy.....SCARY...and nerve racking. One local attorney declined to help, quoting the "complexity" of my situation. Another attorney was asking for an unreasonable fee and was not very friendly. A quick internet search lead me to Erin's practice and was impressed right away. I was recently involved in a very challenging legal matter that I was told was essentially unwinnable by several trusted confidants. I turned to the Osborn Machler firm based on their reputation with difficult and complex cases, and Austin Neff was assigned as the lead attorney in my case.
From the beginning, Mr. Neff and his colleagues concurred that my case was indeed an uphill battle. But Austin immediately began to outline a legal strategy he calculated would maximize our chances of success. What stood out initially to me was his ability to explain complex legal terms and processes in a way that I could easily understand, which helped alleviate much of my anxiety—which, I admit, was through the roof.
As someone with very little exposure to the legal system, much of the strategy Austin constructed seemed almost counterintuitive to me at first. But he was very patient in explaining the reasoning for his approach at every step of the way, as I peppered him with endless layman’s questions about the law. By the time we were ready for the hearing, I almost felt like I had a couple semesters of law school under my belt.
I realize that all attorneys have multiple cases they are working on at any given moment. And I realize that they simply cannot be as emotionally involved in each of their cases as their clients are, of course. But I’ll have to admit that my level of optimism went up a notch or two when Austin looked up from a response he was reading from opposing counsel and paused and stated, “I’m starting to take this personally.”
The hearing itself was the first time I had seen Austin Neff in action in the courtroom. For moral support, the founding partner of the firm, Sim Osborn, was also at the defense table—I felt like I had a whole team behind me. Austin’s presentation of our side of the case was impressive. His arguments were incredibly articulate, nuanced, well-crafted, incisive, and on point. I was involved in a collision with an uninsured motorist in Fall 2023.
