We worked with Suzann Moskowitz on two trademark applications for our start-up and could not have been more pleased. Suzann is tremendously knowledgeable and offered a strategic lens throughout the process to help us make informed decisions and get to a desired outcome. She is also extremely kind, compassionate, and genuinely cares about her clients (not traits you commonly associate with attorneys). I cannot recommend Suzann enough!

My experience with this amazing Attorney was very satisfactory in many ways. Mr. Nadas helped me through a very difficult court situation by keeping me informed , and always available for consultations involving my case. His knowledge of the laws exceeded all of my expectations of confidence of his abilities going above and beyond to help me through this ordeal. If anyone is seeking for an attorney that has integrity and the ability to take action I recommend contacting this attorney. I am forever grateful for everything he accomplished .

Nadas Law walked me through my estate planning with care and patience. We determined for my situation a trust was my best option along with the will and healthcare power of attorney. I feel greatful to have this in place and have less stress in the event I am incapacitated.

I've worked with 10+ lawyers over the course of building my business, and there aren't many that I can say I look forward to getting an email/call from, or that are a pleasure to work with. Joseph is that lawyer. He's exceptionally knowledgeable, and helped us to navigate and resolve a very complex trademark case involving three different parties. This was after the tier-1 law firm we were using previously had failed to get us anywhere after 8 months and tens of thousands of dollars spent. Joseph's recommendations are clear and well-founded, his prices are reasonable, and his experience is exceptional value for the cost. If you're looking for a trademark lawyer, I can't recommend him enough!

Joe and I met as adversaries. He was counsel for opposing. After a few conversations, it was apparent, he understood business and how to find resolution that both parties could live with. His incredible ability to see and work outside the box allowed us to all come to a quick settlement whereas we all walked away winners. Since then, I have made Joe my "go-to" attorney for my IP and trademark issues. He is knowledgeable, responsive and his fees are more than fair. I would recommend Joe Dreitler to anyone in need of a trademark or defense of a trademark. His experience saved both his client and me a lot of money.

I am a lawyer and entrepreneur, and have now used Joe at two of my companies for my trademark needs. My companies are both based in NYC, but since trademark law is federal, there's very little advantage to paying a lawyer twice as much just so they are in the same city. Joe is an excellent lawyer with an unbelievable resume who I highly recommend.

We contacted Mr. Koop about a misdemeanor case that we were eager to resolve. Mr. Koop was at all times patient, professional, forthright, and direct. He was communicative and listened to us about the situation, and he looked out for our best interests throughout the ordeal. Ultimately, the case was resolved with the outcome we hoped for, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We will not hesitate to contact Mr. Koop for other legal matters that may arise.

The case that we hired Martin Koop for was a very traumatic and sensitive case. It involved both children and adults so we needed a lawyer that would not only be respectful of our privacy but that would do the best by us and especially by the children. He was always there for us. He would return our calls promptly, he always had answers for us and was soo very helpful in explaining the whole process to us in terms that we could understand. During this trying time we never felt alone. At the end of it all we found Martin Koop to be very proffessional and trustworthy and was very sympathetic and empathetic to what we all were going through. If in the future we were to ever need a lawyer again Martin Koop will be the first person we contact. Thank you Martin Koop for everything that you did for us.!

I have used Attorney Schweikert more than once for protection of my rights in the Intellectual Properties area of Law. He has been efficient and thorough in his work and in his communication with me and others regarding this work. In addition, he is a kind gentleman. Staff in the firm have been nice and helpful as well. Though I live in the Pittsburgh area, I will return as needed to his firm. I have also referred friends to the Black, McCusky Firm as well.

John Siciliano lied to me several times, saying he would help me get a refund because the situation was not normal. He proposed me to write a letter with my engagement (even though it was illegal and will deny it as always), only to later claim he never requested this ans refuse my engagement. He was saying contradictory things during our communication... He trusts his team, who lied to me multiple times and had no proof over my countless evidence. As always, they will deny and say it was not true or I didn't understand, despite my having all the proof. I do not recommend working with this law firm: Shumaker. They are liars, the managers validate the lies of their team (even when they have no proof), and they don't answer to the clients. If I could give 0/5, I would. Please don't waste your money and go work with real professionals! They are the worst business I have ever worked with.

These lowlifes aren't even worth the time and trouble of hiring. They are greedy, care nothing for their clients and can't even do their job. I know of an individual they represented and this educated librarian sat there with his finger up his nose while the judge did his job for him. And if you owe them money, they threaten you, even if you are making payments to them. There a lot better attorneys in Columbus you can hire.

2 guys investment LLC, owned by Mr. Hrina, does NOT care who they sell or rent homes to. Currently, there is a home in Struthers Ohio, that has a mother dog and 8 pups locked in the basement and no one lives there. Apparently, Mr. Hrina is selling this on land contract to a man who owns the dogs. These animals are being neglected and Hrina does nothing about it. As a "reputable" attorney, you would think he would pay the back taxes on this property and make sure things like "abandoned dogs" doesn't happen in one of his homes!!!! SHAME ON YOU DAVID HRINA FOR LETTING THIS CRUELTY HAPPEN!!!!! I'm praying that the proper AUTHORITIES will take care of this matter ASAP!!!

I am sure he is a very good attorrney with contract but has no ethical values for those who rent from him!! According to him, a building is not required to have name on it or way to contact the owner'(s). So he doees not and does not expect life to happen to anyone! Then uses his knowledge to screw his renters over!

Navigating a divorce is a complex process, and finding the right attorney is crucial. Unfortunately, your experience with the attorney you hired did not meet your expectations. Despite seeking clarification and guidance, you were left feeling uninformed and unsupported. The attorney failed to sign essential paperwork and did not fulfill promises made at the end of your case, leaving you with unresolved issues and potential legal consequences. It is important to address these matters promptly by seeking a second opinion and documenting all communication. This experience highlights the importance of transparency and professionalism in legal services…. Please do not hire this attorney. It does not waste your headache or a waste of your money.

Stay away from Rauser & Associates! Waste of your time and definitely your money. Took my money then asked about my income. After all this the kept my return for almost a month. After keeping 25% of it for doing nothing. The only reason I am leaving a bad review is because I called another law firm, and the first thing they asked about was my income and told me I made too much. That they couldn't help me and wouldn't waste my time. So if you have any other options I would not use this company. I wouldn't have given them a star but I couldn't leave the review unless I gave them one.

My Deceased husband has been a client for 15+ years at Kelley Ferraro. Over the years I have dealt with many professional employees from attorneys to secretaries to probate, etc. I have two employees that have stood out over the years one being Bidea Kelly. I met Bidea through a business that I had had and she had turned me on to Kelley Ferraro. At that time she worked in probate and always was very personal. Bidea would give you as much information as she could or turn you on to another employee that would be able to answer your questions. The other employee is Valerie, the settlement coordinator. sometimes in a large law firm It's almost the luck of the draw what employee you get to speak to and for the last eight months I have been blessed to get Valerie. When speaking with her whether it's a question or she calls to give me information it's almost like she takes it personal as if she understands what I'm going through. I have gotten more information from Valerie in eight months then I have in the 15 years that I've been dealing With this law firm. There is much protocol / paperwork dealing with a lawsuit, as well as different departments. I always felt in the last 14 years that my case had been Unintentionally lost in the shuffle. NOT with Valerie, she knows exactly what chain the protocol has to take before a settlement and never hesitates to explain why a settlement would take as long as it does! Valerie has worked very hard on my case and I'm sure she does this for other clients as well. Of all the employees I have come in contact with I feel confident in saying Valerie enjoys her job and takes pride in being the best she can be for Kelley Ferraro !! She's a keeper!!! Thank you , Linda Messina

They only want an easy payday.

Unless you have a high profile case that will result in a large settlement, I would not recommend. The hourly billing is too high and with a negative end result in our case (despite their agreement that baseless allegations were brought), it seems the only party who won was the representation. Very disappointed and disgusted. Where is there fair law in civil matters?

What a Copyright Lawyer Can Do for You

A copyright lawyer specializes in helping individuals and businesses protect their creative works by navigating the complexities of copyright law. They assist with registering copyrights, enforcing rights against infringement, drafting licensing agreements, and advising on the fair use of copyrighted material. Whether you're an author, artist, musician, software developer, or content creator, a copyright lawyer can help ensure your intellectual property is legally protected and monetized appropriately.

When Should I Hire a Copyright Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a copyright lawyer in the following situations:

  • Registering a copyright: While copyright protection exists upon the creation of an original work, registering your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office provides legal advantages, such as the ability to file a lawsuit for infringement and eligibility for statutory damages and attorney's fees.
  • Enforcing your rights: If someone is using your work without permission, a lawyer can help you enforce your rights by sending cease and desist letters, negotiating settlements, or filing infringement lawsuits.
  • Defending against infringement claims: If you're accused of infringing someone else's copyright, a lawyer can defend you by assessing the validity of the claim and representing you in negotiations or court proceedings.
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts: When creating licensing agreements, work-for-hire agreements, or transferring ownership of a copyright, a lawyer can ensure the terms are legally sound and protect your interests.
  • Fair use assessment: If you plan to use copyrighted material under the fair use doctrine, a lawyer can evaluate the risks and advise on compliance to prevent potential legal issues.
  • International copyright concerns: If you need to protect your work internationally, a lawyer can guide you through the process of securing rights in other countries and navigating international treaties.

What Does a Copyright Lawyer Do?

A copyright lawyer provides a range of legal services related to the creation, protection, and enforcement of copyrighted works:

  • Copyright registration: Assist in preparing and filing applications with the U.S. Copyright Office, ensuring all legal requirements are met for successful registration.
  • Legal advice on protection strategies: Offer guidance on how to safeguard your work, including the best practices for documentation and disclosure.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements: Prepare contracts such as licensing agreements, assignments, and work-for-hire agreements to monetize your work while protecting your rights.
  • Enforcement actions: Take legal steps against infringers, including sending cease and desist letters, negotiating settlements, and litigating infringement cases.
  • Defense against infringement claims: Represent you if accused of infringement, developing defense strategies and handling negotiations or court proceedings.
  • Fair use evaluation: Analyze whether your intended use of copyrighted material qualifies as fair use under the law, reducing the risk of infringement.
  • International protection: Advise on securing copyright protection abroad and complying with international intellectual property laws and treaties.

How Are Copyright Lawyers Paid?

Copyright lawyers typically charge for their services in the following ways:

  • Hourly rate: Many lawyers bill by the hour, with rates ranging from $200 to $600 or more, depending on experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For straightforward tasks like filing a copyright application or drafting a simple contract, some lawyers offer flat fees, which provide cost predictability.
  • Retainer: For ongoing services, a lawyer may require a retainer - a lump sum deposited in advance - against which hourly fees are charged.
  • Contingency fee: In some infringement cases, especially those involving significant damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, receiving a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment.

It's important to discuss payment arrangements upfront to understand the total cost and billing practices.

How Much Does a Copyright Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a copyright lawyer varies based on the complexity of your needs:

  • Copyright registration: Legal fees for preparing and filing a copyright application typically range from $250 to $1,000, plus U.S. Copyright Office filing fees (which are $45 to $85 per application as of 2024).
  • Contract drafting or review: Fees for drafting or reviewing agreements can range from $500 to $2,500 or more, depending on complexity.
  • Infringement matters:
    • Cease and desist letters: Sending a letter may cost between $500 and $1,500.
    • Negotiations and settlements: Legal fees can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
    • Litigation: Taking a case to court can be expensive, with costs ranging from $10,000 to over $100,000, depending on the case's complexity and duration.
  • Hourly rates: Expect to pay between $200 and $600 per hour for most services.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your initial consultation to understand the potential expenses involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Copyright Lawyer

Before hiring a copyright lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with copyright law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific expertise in copyright matters similar to yours.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, or contingency fees, and any additional costs.
  3. What is the process for registering my copyright?
Ask about the steps involved, timelines, and what information you'll need to provide.
  4. How can I enforce my copyright if someone infringes it?
Discuss enforcement options, potential remedies, and the likelihood of success.
  5. What are the risks involved in my situation?
Whether you're protecting your work or using someone else's, understand the legal risks and how to mitigate them.
  6. Can you assist with international copyright protection?
If you need global protection, inquire about the lawyer's experience with international copyright laws and treaties.
  7. What strategies can you suggest for licensing my work?
Explore options for monetizing your copyright through licensing agreements and how to structure them effectively.

How to Check the Credibility of a Copyright Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable copyright lawyer:

  • Verify their license: Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  • Review their experience: Look for lawyers who specialize in intellectual property law, particularly copyright issues.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Websites like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google Reviews can provide insights into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.
  • Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) or the International Trademark Association (INTA) indicates a focus on intellectual property law.
  • Check for certifications: Some lawyers hold certifications or advanced degrees in intellectual property law, demonstrating specialized expertise.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a copyright lawyer, bring the following:

  • Descriptions of your work: Provide detailed descriptions or copies of the work you wish to protect, such as manuscripts, recordings, software code, or artwork.
  • Evidence of creation: Documentation that proves when and how you created the work, such as drafts, timestamps, or metadata.
  • Existing agreements: Any contracts, licensing agreements, or previous registrations related to your work.
  • Infringement evidence (if applicable): If someone is infringing your copyright, bring evidence like copies of the infringing material, URLs, screenshots, or witness statements.
  • Questions and concerns: Prepare a list of questions about your rights, the registration process, enforcement options, and any potential legal risks.
  • Goals and objectives: Be clear about what you hope to achieve, whether it's registering your work, licensing it, or taking action against an infringer.

By coming prepared, you enable the lawyer to provide accurate advice and develop an effective legal strategy tailored to your needs.
