Being new to the area and in an accident was one of my worst experiences but Mr. Aberino made me feel 1000% better! He handled my case with care and patience! He made sure to keep me up to date with everything going on in my case and made sure I was a part of every decision he made and did not move forward with anything unless I agreed. I would recommend Abernio Law to anyone who needs a caring and understanding lawyer! James and his team are one of a kind! Thanks for everything

Kim Chandler is an exceptional bankruptcy attorney. She is an expert in bankruptcy law, and she uses her knowledge to help her clients in every way possible. She is kind, compassionate and understanding; and at the same time, she is a fierce defender of who she represents. I always felt she had my best interests at heart. She had my back, and alleviated my embarrassment, apprehension, and fear around the process of filing.....that it was OK. I couldn’t have asked for a better attorney to represent me during a very challenging time in my life. An extension of Kim’s expertise and professionalism is reflected in her staff, who are always friendly and upbeat. They make you feel like you are a part of an extended family. I wholeheartedly recommend Kim Chandler and her team; and I would not hesitate to use her services again.

After retiring my finances got out of control and I had to file bankruptcy. This was a scary thing for me to do because I didn't know what to expect. I spent several days calling different bankruptcy lawyers. I called about fifteen different bankruptcy attorneys and was unable to get help from them because they did not have the time to help me and basically rushed me off the phone. At that point I started to give up but I decided to make one last call and that call connected me to Kimberly Chandler. Ms. Chandler answered the phone with such a warm and friendly voice. She greeted me with good evening and asked how she could help me. She spent quality time with me and answered all of my questions. After our first conversation, I knew I had found the right attorney. At my first appointment, I was nervous but her and her staff spent quality time with me to explain all the policies and procedures of bankruptcy and that made me feel very comfortable. During the filing process if I had any questions, her and her staff was always professional and made sure that I understood. I am glad I made that last call and connected with her because after filing it took a big burden off my shoulders and helped me put my life back on track. If you are looking for an exceptional bankruptcy attorney go to her web site and see why so many people like myself are happy they chose her. Thank you Attorney Chandler for helping me put my life back on track.

Consumer Litigation Associates helped my spouse and I fix our credit after having an old auto loan inaccurately report the final disposition of our account to each of the credit bureaus. We worked with Drew Sarrett and Vicki Crissman, who each helped us expertly navigate the tremendous amount of paperwork and process required to satisfactorily resolve the matter and fully restore our credit ratings. Highly recommend.

I hired CLA for a FCRA identity theft case against a major US bank and the 3 credit bureaus. CLA handled the case professionally, efficiently, in an organised fashion and paid special attention to my specific needs even through difficult pandemic times. The job was completed and settlements were obtained from all 4 defendants. I would highly recommend this firm to anyone in need of similar representation.

I was the victim of identity theft. Someone forged my signature on loan documents. The identity thief stopped making payments on the loan shortly after the account was opened. The fraudulent loan accounts appeared on my credit reports. As a result, I could not refinance my home and credit limits on my existing accounts were being reduced. I sent numerous letters to the credit reporting agencies and the banks with limited success. I was ultimately forced to file a federal lawsuit to protect my rights, my credit and my good name. I was able to get the fraudulent accounts removed from my credit reports and settled my case before trial. I signed separate settlement agreements with each named defendant. The terms and amounts of each settlement agreement are confidential. John helped me through the entire process. He also took my case on a contingency fee basis. I did not have to pay any money out-of-pocket. John was a beacon of light in a very dark time of not knowing and I would recommend him and use him again if needed.

An identity thief stole my identity and used my name and credit to purchase a house that belonged to his ex-wife. The identity thief only made a few payments on the property and let it go into foreclosure. The foreclosure appeared on my credit report as well as a homeowners association judgment for past due HOA fees related to the property. Needless to say, my credit scores were low and obtaining credit was nearly impossible. I did not know where to turn until I was referred to John Bazaz. He was able to walk me through the entire process. He was able to get the judgment vacated in state court. He then helped me dispute the foreclosure and judgment that still appeared on my credit reports. When the credit reporting agencies and the bank refused to delete the inaccurate accounts, he filed a federal lawsuit against them. John was able to get the foreclosure and judgment accounts removed from my credit reports. We settled with each defendant separately before trial. The terms and amounts are confidential. As an added bonus, John took my federal case on a contingency fee basis. He was paid only after I was paid. I strongly encourage you to contact John if you are the victim of identity theft. Liz

Around 2020, I discovered that I had somehow been declared deceased. This was rather strange, because I certainly did not feel decreased. This had many negative consequences, particularly on my credit reports. I did research on the best way to deal with this and it was clear that I needed a lawyer. I contacted a couple who weren't responsive, then I was fortunate enough to have found Craig Marchiando of Consumer Litigation Associates. Craig is on the opposite side of the country from me, but everything was handled perfectly by phone and email, with help from his legal assistant, Sydnee Shirley and senior paralegal, Vicki Crissman. Craig did an excellent job of keeping my expectations realistic and keeping me updated when necessary, in what is a LONG process, by its very nature. I am limited in what I can say due to the terms of my non-disclosure agreement, but I will say that Craig went far beyond ANY realistic expectations in my particular case and I was DELIGHTED with the outcome.

Thomas Breeden is one of the best ever lawyers i have come across. Thomas doesn’t play when it comes to serious business with his job as a lawyer.Too great as a lawyer. I have never regret hiring him as my lawyer. I found myself in a contempt case and someone recommended him for me and i have being so excited from the day i hired him as my lawyer till the final day that the judge ruled the case in my favor ( DISMISSED ) He got my case dismissed within a twinkle of an eye with professionalism. Tom is too good.I will forever recommend him to anyone who will find himself / herself in any area of his field as a lawyer. Don’t listen to any negative things that someone may tell you about Tom, just give yourself a try and you will never regret hiring him. Am so happy now and free forever after the case was totally dismissed.I love his patience and commitment in the court room. Tom respects his clients very well. He really knows the law and always ready to deliver at any given time. God bless you Mr.Thomas Breeden, I have never regret hiring you for my case. Your law firm is one of the best in America.Good job

I paid $70 for a phone consultation, and I terminated the call within less than three minutes, as Mr. Breeden both interrupted and raised his voice at me. He first cut me off, saying that I started in the middle of story and he needs to to know the first page. At that moment, I realized that he either hadn't read the intake brief that I sent to his office days ago or he doesn't want the case. I insisted to get to the bottom of it: did he at least *receive* my written brief or not? He refused to answer and commanded me to again, start with the page one of the story. The argument escalated. Within seconds, I terminated the call, telling Mr. Breeden that I'm concerned that our communications have already broken down and I have no confidence in working with him. That was a $70 well spent - I had no idea that layers can be that unprofessional, now I've experienced it.

If you get this lawyer I feel sorry for you . Idk if it’s because we got him court appointed and he just thinks low of us but from the lady that answered the phone to anything about him they are very rude and care NOTHING ABOUT YOU ! Maybe if you pay him outta pocket things may be different but I’d definitely ask for another lawyer. Unless you enjoy extra charges , more time and being put places away from your family .

What a Credit Repair Lawyer Can Do for You

A credit repair lawyer specializes in helping individuals address issues related to their credit reports and scores. They are knowledgeable about consumer protection laws, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). These lawyers assist clients in disputing inaccurate or outdated information on their credit reports, negotiating with creditors, and protecting against unfair debt collection practices. By leveraging legal expertise, a credit repair lawyer can help you improve your creditworthiness and financial standing.

Whether you're dealing with identity theft, incorrect reporting, or harassment from debt collectors, a credit repair lawyer can provide legal assistance to ensure your rights are protected and your credit report accurately reflects your financial history.

When Should I Hire a Credit Repair Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a credit repair lawyer in the following situations:

  • Errors on Your Credit Report: If you've identified inaccuracies, such as incorrect personal information, accounts that don't belong to you, or outdated negative items, a lawyer can help dispute these errors with credit bureaus.
  • Identity Theft: If you're a victim of identity theft, a lawyer can assist in removing fraudulent accounts and charges from your credit report and take legal action against the perpetrators if necessary.
  • Unsuccessful Disputes: If you've tried to resolve credit report issues on your own without success, a lawyer can take more formal legal steps to correct the inaccuracies.
  • Debt Collection Harassment: If you're experiencing harassment from debt collectors, a lawyer can enforce your rights under the FDCPA to stop abusive practices.
  • Credit Damage Due to Divorce or Separation: If joint accounts or debts from a former spouse are affecting your credit, a lawyer can help address these issues legally.
  • Complex Legal Issues: If your credit problems involve legal complexities, such as lawsuits from creditors or violations of consumer protection laws, a lawyer's expertise is crucial.
  • Need for Legal Representation: If you're considering suing a credit bureau, creditor, or debt collector for damages due to inaccurate reporting or unlawful practices, a lawyer can represent you in court.

What Does a Credit Repair Lawyer Do?

A credit repair lawyer offers a variety of services to help improve your credit score and protect your financial interests:

  • Analyzing Credit Reports: Review your credit reports from all three major bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) to identify errors or inaccuracies.
  • Disputing Inaccuracies: File formal disputes with credit bureaus and creditors to correct or remove incorrect information.
  • Negotiating with Creditors: Work with creditors to settle debts, negotiate payment plans, or remove negative entries in exchange for payment.
  • Stopping Harassment: Enforce your rights under the FDCPA to stop unlawful harassment from debt collectors.
  • Legal Action: Represent you in lawsuits against credit bureaus, creditors, or debt collectors who violate consumer protection laws.
  • Identity Theft Resolution: Assist in removing fraudulent accounts and charges resulting from identity theft.
  • Credit Counseling Advice: Provide guidance on managing debts and improving credit habits, although they may refer you to a certified credit counselor for detailed financial planning.

How Are Credit Repair Lawyers Paid?

Credit repair lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Hourly Rate: Charging an hourly fee, which can range from $200 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat Fee: Offering a fixed price for specific services, such as disputing a certain number of items on your credit report.
  • Retainer Fee: Requiring an upfront payment against which services are billed. You may need to replenish the retainer as work progresses.
  • Contingency Fee: In cases where you're suing for damages, a lawyer might work on a contingency basis, receiving a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any recovered amount.
  • Payment Plans: Some lawyers offer flexible payment options to make their services more affordable.

It's important to discuss fees and payment structures during your initial consultation to fully understand the costs involved.

How Much Does a Credit Repair Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a credit repair lawyer varies based on several factors:

  • Hourly Rates: Generally range from $200 to $500 per hour.
  • Flat Fees:
    • Disputing Errors: $500 to $1,500, depending on the complexity and number of items.
    • Identity Theft Cases: $1,000 to $3,000 or more due to the extensive work involved.
  • Retainer Fees: Initial retainers may range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scope of services.
  • Litigation Costs: If a lawsuit is necessary, costs can increase significantly, potentially exceeding $5,000 to $10,000 or more.

Additional expenses may include:

  • Court Filing Fees: Costs associated with filing legal documents.
  • Administrative Expenses: Charges for document preparation, postage, and other administrative tasks.

Always request a detailed fee agreement and discuss all potential costs upfront to avoid unexpected expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Credit Repair Lawyer

  1. What experience do you have with credit repair and consumer protection laws?
Ensure the lawyer has a strong background in handling cases similar to yours.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure and get a clear estimate of the total cost.
  3. What strategies will you use to improve my credit report?
Ask about the specific actions they plan to take on your behalf.
  4. How long will the credit repair process take?
Get an estimated timeline for seeing improvements on your credit report.
  5. Can you guarantee that my credit score will improve?
Be cautious of any guarantees; reputable lawyers will not promise specific results.
  6. Will you represent me in court if necessary?
Confirm whether the lawyer is prepared to handle litigation if needed.
  7. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates and availability.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
A reputable lawyer should be willing to provide testimonials or references.

How to Check the Credibility of a Credit Repair Lawyer

  • Verify Their License: Confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state's bar association.
  • Experience and Specialization: Look for a lawyer who specializes in consumer protection and credit repair law.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials: Read reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership in organizations like the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) indicates a focus on consumer rights.
  • Disciplinary Record: Ensure the lawyer has no history of disciplinary actions or ethical violations.
  • Ask for References: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a credit repair lawyer, bring the following:

  • Credit Reports: Obtain recent copies from all three major credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax).
  • Documentation of Errors: Highlight inaccuracies or questionable items on your reports.
  • Correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or communications with credit bureaus, creditors, or debt collectors.
  • Identity Theft Records (if applicable): Provide police reports, FTC Identity Theft Affidavits, or other relevant documentation.
  • Financial Information: Be prepared to discuss your current debts, income, and financial obligations.
  • Questions and Concerns: Prepare a list of questions about your rights, the credit repair process, and how the lawyer can assist you.

By being thoroughly prepared, you enable the lawyer to assess your situation effectively and provide tailored legal advice to address your credit repair needs.
