I met with Tyler for a free consult and was extremely impressed with how well prepared he was for our meeting, considering it was free. He offered me tons of helpful legal advice and helped prepare me for an upcoming hearing. The meeting was only supposed to be 1/2 an hour but he took extra time out of his day to help me. I would highly recommend Mr. Reid as an attorney.

I had hired Mr. White to help me with criminal charges I was given for following my job description and following Oregon Administrative Rules as an Assistant Director of a group home. I was distraught and very anxious and confused, as I had not ever been in trouble with the law, not even a speeding ticket. Mr. White calmly and effectively explained EVERYTHING, from the charges, what they meant what max penalty could be, as well as what the entire process could look like from arraignment to going before a jury. He helped relieve so much stress and anxiety throughout the whole ordeal. Mr. White was friendly and professional from our first phone call until the end. He was able to get the charges dropped without having to even go to arraignment. Highly recommend him for your legal needs!

I recommend having nothing to do with Rex J White. I have character limit here so I cant go in to full detail but a quick summery of my experience with this man and the challenges I am going to have if I try to sue him goes like this.. I was the victim of housing discrimination, by both a property management company and a BOLI agent but I was able to prove it because I had recorded all my calls with the property management company and agent. Rex bragged to me about making this company settle out of court many times. (Mind you I am disabled and was basically bed ridden, and he knew I was up against the statute of limitations ) He came to visit me with another trainee lawyer named Dallas. I am guessing he lied to me on the phone because he referred to Dallas as his assistant. He listened to the evidence I had given him. In short the property management company claimed to have denied me housing due to my demeanor. However I was nothing but polite, kind and soft spoken in every encounter I had with them and not just them, I try to be that way with everyone I deal with, especially if I am trying to get favor from them. I mean that's just common sense, who is going to do something nice for you if you are not mindful of their feelings? Rex sees everything and tells me he will send me a contingency agreement and a draft of the settlement demand, mind you I am now wrapped up with him just based on the fact that I trusted him and his mother was the secretary for the firm he was working for close to two months. With almost two weeks left to go he sends me a rejection letter and denies all the above. So I go about it on my own and basically taught myself how to be a lawyer online and as Trump would say I won BIGGLY lol I love karma. But the problem is if I try to sue Rex he may argue that he didn't damage me and that I am clearly a better litigator then he could ever hope to be and that I was better off in my hands than his...

I was appointed Arnold Poole by the Albany courthouse,.At first he seemed to know what he was doing to help me in my case as he hired a private investigator to look into my case. That I liked. I missed my court date be a few hours and when the warrant for my arrest was official, I turned myself in. Being it was a felony charge it was a felony failure to appear. At my next court date Arnold told me he talked to the D.A. and got my failure to appear dropped down to a misdemeanor. When we went to court the judge was reading my changes off and the failure to appear was not dropped to a misdemeanor! When asked Mr. Poole why it was not, he raised his voice and said he never told Me this. It wouldn't have made very much of a difference in my sentencing guidelines, but I know what he told me and my sentence was nothing like he promised me it would be. I would not recommend anyone to choose a lawyer who is dishonest to his client. I'm very disappointed by his work and dishonesty.....

Arrogant A-hole. Exactly what we all fear a bad lawyer is. Not prompt or thorough, but will charge you like he is. Crams like a college frat boy. Essentially is still is one, with a law degree. Not experienced with high conflict cases. Do Not Use if: you are female, have experienced trauma or are divorcing a narcissist. Blamed me for his uncontrolled temper in front of the judge. Reported he "tricked" me into having a settlement conference and therefore he waived the cost of it, including his legal fees. Not a good feel. Especially when expressing sympathy for the OP and how they got "the shaft" in my divorce. Made recommendations that my ex and I split time with our child 50/50 (which isn't even possible when parents live in 2 different counties) after my ex absconded with my child for 4 months and it took me 5 months to get him to file parenting time enforcement on my behalf. I should have cut my losses in the first month. It would have saved me lost time with my children and about 25K.

After my wife passed away I had a custody claim put against me by a family member from my wife’s side. I met with Mr. Weyer and he walked me through everything that could happen and what the possible outcomes were. I had never been into trouble before or been a bad parent to my son, Mr Weyer was really good at assuring me that we were going to be alright. He spent countless hours on my case and would check in frequently telling me where we were at. The thing I liked about him was that he didn’t tell you what you wanted to hear, he always advised on what he believed was best. He is really good at representing his clients in the court room. I had never testified before and he did a really good job at keeping me calm before and after I testified. All of Mr Weyer’s hard work paid off because we won our case entirely and I was able to move on with my life reassured that I had 100% custody of my son. I would definitely hire Mr Weyer again. He has incredible knowledge about Family Law.

Had a nasty Break up with my ex and had lost contact with my son. My ex slapped me with a restraining order, and i jumped the gun in responding to it before consulting with Brad, Asked for an extension in court to try to secure a lawyer, extension was denied by judge, I ended up with an RO. After consulting Brad he wanted to take my case. With months of negotiations He ended up getting me a parenting plan that my ex finally agreed too. All in all Brad was a great lawyer, he is a lawyer that doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you what you need to hear. Always answered all my questions and gave me great advise. He handled my case very well and professionally. I would hire him again in the future.

By far worst people you could possibly work with. They try a scam you out of your money the second you try an get a consult. These people are rude. Withhold anything you give them. My experience: I go in for consult and ask very basic questions about how their pay works etc. as I asked questions the office lady got more and more rude as I try an make sure my money goes to the right place. Well she kept trying to convince me to give her my money as I’m making sure it’s going to be worth it. She continued getting more verbally aggressive to such a point I said never mind and asked for my paperwork back. She withheld my information and claimed she has a shredder and walked out of sight from the desk with all my info. NEVER GO HERE THEY WILL SCAM YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY!!

First meeting seemed fine then I make appointment, a mixup on my part. Then I was told to call on to reschedule. The inbox was full for 3 days I finally had to text to let him know. Then I walk up to the door ring the bell he answers himself told me to come back in 1 hour I did, his secretary said I needed to make an appointment even though he said he would speak to me when I came back 1 hour. So I make an appointment for 6/18/24 I have business care date and time. On date I show up 5 mins early for my apt. He wasn't there I was told he was in court. I go back to to make another appointment it would be 2 weeks out. If you want to jump through hoops then by all means come here , otherwise you should not waste your time. Note I was trying to hire him .

This man discriminates and is lazy. He just want's to collect the states money and let you hang to death in the end. I have more than enough proof to show my innocents, but he would rather deny me an investigation. I have learned that Oregon has a specific fund for investigation and he still says no. So my advice is to fire him, and maybe with enough issues the state will stop paying him to misrepresent people.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
