I recently retired from a local Municipality. I had went through a divorce in 2005. I was unable to get the QDRO and income deduction orders done from 2005 through April 2021. I contacted William J. Lobb on or about May 26th, 2021. All items that I requested were completed and executed by 6/29/2021. I cannot thank Mr. Lobb and his staff enough for getting this done ASAP. I would reccommend Mr. Lobb and his staff for all legal issues. The interaction, proffesionalism and exepediious handling of my case was a great stress relief. Thank You Douglas R. Settles

I contacted Mr. Riddle for a criminal matter after speaking to several lawyers throughout central florida. I was in a bad spot and every one else kept saying they couldn't help me. Mr. Riddle brought me right in for a consult, even credited my consultation money back to me when I hired him. He is down to earth, positive, treated me like a friend not a wallet, and saved me from spening 18 months in prison. If you want a lawyer who cares then this is the guy.

Mr. Blenk is the most professional, honest, and helpful attorney i have ever had the pleasure of hiring. We had three or four consultations where Paul took the time to explain the State Statute, the interpretations of it, and what type of information we needed to have a solid case. Once we got the information, we hired Paul and won hands down. Paul is an advocate for his clients, highly respected in the law community, and extremely honest. I cannot recommend Paul enough for anyone needing legal help. Our case was a family law case and Paul stood up for us and our child and got the best result. I can no longer say I've never met an honest attorney, Paul is the epitome of honesty and integrity.

Ron really is the best. And I mean the best all the way around. Hes always willing to personally speak with you when you call his office. He covers every single detail with you as many times as you want him to. Him and his secretary both have a way of really making you feel special, like your a part of there family. And in the court room he is so well respected. Its almost as if when he talks everybody everywhere stops and listens.Even in my husbands first court appearance, Ron handled the state attorney with such determination and he spit out all that lawyer lingo so fast that it almost sounded like a foreign language. Absolute professional on the outside and the warmest family man good ol'boy on the inside is how I see Ron Toward. I will never use any other attorney as long as Ron is still in business. I along with my whole family think alot of Ronald Toward.

When it comes to the law and your back is up against the wall, you want Norgard Norgard & Chastang standing between you and the vast resources of the State of Florida. I was falsely accused of a crime by a victim so cool that butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. One of my first four lawyers told me this case most likely will be resolved based on the perceptions of the Jury. I look in the mirror and see a big mean looking dude complete with Tatoos looking back at me. I think, "Perception, this can't be good". Whatever happened to the truth, relevant facts, evidence (direct and/or real circumstantial evidence not disjointed facts woven into a convenient fabrication). In a year my lawyer was changed 4 times and what started out as a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge was enhanced to 3 felonies and I was looking at 15 years in prison (not because of new evidence or new witnesses but because a State Attorneys Office Investigator, a year after the fact, was able to get an enhanced statement from the "victim"). Now the State could close the misdemeanor case and reopen it as a felony case apparently because the Assistant State Attorney felt she could overcome the lack of evidence with perception. For me all looked lost until that day Mr. Norgard and Mr. Chastang walked into the courtroom and literally took over my case, much to the chagrin of a protesting Assistant State Attorney. Their appearance, their demeanor, their style all exuded a quiet yet unmistakeable confidence that told you when it came to law these were two bad dudes who weren't beholding to anyone other than their own moral code. When the time came to go to court. They were prepared for everything from the Jury Selection up through the trial. They knew exactly what to say, how to say it and when to say it. They always maintained decorum while making a point and dealing with the court. They were ready for and prevented and/or corrected any misstatements by the State and were able to overcome the States Perception Offence with the truth. I was found not guilty on all charges and I would without hesitation recommend these Attorneys to anyone charged with a criminal offence. These are two gentlemen who are always cordial to everyone but whose loyalty to their client is never compromised.

I met Mr. Colon at a very difficult times of my life. I was charged by a poorly educated polk county sheriff’s deputy with a bad felony. This crooked cop has lied and faked evidence. Mr. Colon exposed all of it. From the first day he offered me a free consultation to the day my case got dismissed, I lived a worry free 2 years, even so facing with up to 25 years in prison, just knowing Mr. Colon is my guardian angel. I really feel myself insulted by those whiners claiming Mr. Colon does not communicate enough. My short answers to those whiners is, you pay the guy to do a job for you and offer you peace. You don’t pay the guy to talk to you. Please hire a mental health counselor or some sort therapist for the matter if you just need to talk to someone. I met the most gregarious and the most concerned human for his clients in Mr. Colon, the most professional and most respectful human I ever met in my life. Mr. Colon will not rest until he gets the best of the best for his client. Highly recommended, very affordable for the work he does. Thank you Mr. Colon and god bless you, your family and your wonderful team I met in your office

Gil Colon did not communicate effectively and spent most of his time with me joking around rather than discussing my case. He was disrespectful on more than one occasion, did not have a handle on the basics of my case, and seemed distracted most of the time. I did most of the work on my case; Gil Colon even acknowledged I did most of the work. I believe he does not work well with female clients; just my opinion.

Nick Mohr is a wonderfully nice and efficient attorney. I'd put off going to one for years, but I'm so glad I finally got my affairs in order and at a great price! Now, my children will not have to go through probate court for anything. It's sad to see houses sit unattended and eventually in disrepair when one has to wait on the courts to decide things for you. When I was going through a nasty divorce I hired Josh Schoen to help me navigate the waters. It was such a difficult time for me. Josh stuck with me for the duration of what ended up being a few years and never gave up the fight. He always responded to my concerns, acted quickly on my behalf, he addressed my emails, etc. Needless to say I grew to trust Josh. I trusted him with my custody battle, child support, and all the components of getting divorced. At the end of it it all work out in my favor just the way it should have. Tina B was very helpful in the process as well through correspondence, using the portak and keeping my account in order. She also and helped me set up payments so that I could pay off my balance. We worked with two different lawyers from this firm, initially being referred there for a third. Each of the lawyers worked on a total of 3 different cases. We didn't work with the initial referral but he did a free consultation and provided us with alot of info that was really helpful. Jillian Spangler was fantastic with our first two cases. We had an extremely unconventional situation and when no one else was able to accommodate, Jillian took us on and we are so grateful for it. What started out as a devastating situation to find ourselves in, ended exactly with resolve we didn't even imagine we could get in our favor so smoothly. Our initial consultation with her we did not feel rushed and she listened attentively. I half jokingly told my husband (and she will never know this till reading this review) that she reminded me of Harley Quinn: Similiar in looks (gorgeous), smart and quick thinking, and not intimidated easily. Harley Quinn and Jillian Spangler both get things done! She remains calm under pressure and is in it to get you the results you want. Our situation was so very stressful and unfortunately this was very dragged out, partially because we had one of our cases out of the area and she had to do a bit more research that was location exclusive to real estate in that area. I really don't know how she put up with our anxieties and concerns so tactfully because we were STRESSED. In hind sight, we had no reason to be and were in good hands. Her short answers we sometines received were spot on and I eventually learned through these that she was a very straight to the point, don't sweat the small stuff, kinda gal. I greatly appreciate her taking us on and working with us thru the holiday season in a timely manner even when short staffed due to an employee emergency. Savannah C was the other associate we worked with. We didn't need her services to the extent we thought we might with a real estate transaction, but she was always attentive, informative and timely to respond when we did and guided us when needed. Overall we got the results we wanted, and more, under the terms that we wanted. What more can you ask for?

I originally hired Mr. Dicks in early January, 2024 for a very important emergency custody situation due to the death of a relative. I detailed out all of the necessary information for this, which included working with an immigration attorney that I retained as well (about a month or so later). Upon my initial consultation, I met with Connie who at the time, I assumed was an associate attorney since she never identified herself as a paralegal until the very end. Its my understanding that a paralegal cannot or should not offer legal advice, but since she was acting as an attorney by answering the legal questions I had (and giving me the retainer fee), I was very surprised to learn she in fact is not an attorney. I expressed how important it was to get this petition filed rapidly since we have another layer of immigration law that needs to be factored in. Over the next 2 ½ (almost 3) months, I inquired at least weekly to get a status update. I was given the following excuses: Mr. Dicks is in court all week, Mr. Dicks is researching this case to make sure he gets it right (even after he was coached by the immigration attorney on what is needed), I (Connie) had an emergency, Mr. Dicks is on vacation, I (Connie) am sick, neither Connie nor Mr. Dicks is in the office, etc. Towards the end of these 2 ½ months, I started to convey my frustration since NO tangible work had been completed. I spent $2,500 for a retainer and nothing was produced after 2 ½ months. Finally, out of nowhere, I was sent a petition that was littered with errors including the misspelling of our names, etc. I fixed the errors myself, and got it notarized and then returned it to Connie for filing. A WEEK LATER, I follow up to see if the petition was filed – I was texted that it had been filed, however, we are waiting on a judge. What Mr. Dicks and Ms. Connie doesn’t realize is that I have a log in for the Polk County Clerk of Courts, and I have acted as my own attorney (successfully) a few times in the past, and I’ve drafted and filed my own petitions. The petition they sent me was nothing like it was supposed to be, but I ignored my inner voice since I’m no attorney. Well, I started to do some digging and realized I was LIED to. That petition was never filed, and it was not drafted correctly. I immediately fired Mr. Dicks and hired an attorney I’ve worked with in the past. In less than 2 weeks, my new attorney met with my immigration attorney, AND drafted an amazing petition to be filed. When I fired Mr. Dicks, I demanded for my retainer money to be returned. Out of the $2,500 I paid, I only got back $1,000. I have no idea what I paid $1,500 for because I was never given any kind of detailed bill. I have proof in writing of all these claims. I am beyond frustrated, disappointed, and down right pi$$ed that he wasted not only my time, but also my money!!!!! Apparently that $1,500 that he kept was for him to educate himself on how to draft a half a$$ petition for custody!

I hired Michael Dicks for a divorce case after having consultations from several other popular and revered attorneys from larger or higher profile law offices. I left out of each of these consultations with a few hundred dollars less in my pocket, an uneasy feeling, and the realization that I would not be able to financially afford to fight my divorce to the end without just giving up and giving in. I had a friend refer me to Michael Dicks and his paralegal, Connie Brookes. My friend hired them for his divorce and had nothing but glowing comments about this team. I had a consultation with Michael and Connie and they took the time to listen, ask questions, answer questions and inform me of what I could and should expect. I walked out of their office feeling like a prayer had been answered and a huge load had been taken from me. I saw light at the end of the tunnel. Michael is a very down to earth, humble, family man and does not carry the "shark" persona of most attorneys, but don't let this fool you. He is very skilled in the courtroom and an outstanding orator. He will explain your case in a clear and concise manner, without the usual bluster or smokescreen used by many attorneys. He treats and fights for his clients like you're a friend or family member. You'll forget he is your attorney and begin to view him as a friend and ally. Now with Connie, "WOW" is the first word that comes to mind. Michael has his duties presenting and preparing for the case, which he does amazingly, but Connie is the person you will be speaking to or dealing with on a regular basis. I love this lady! She is ferocious, bold, intelligent, experienced and I'm starting to think clairvoyant. I can't count the number of times I've texted or called her with questions or worries and she always has the answer, which ultimately proves to be completely dead on accurate. One of the things I appreciate about Connie is the fact that she will tell it like it is and tell you what you need to here, whether you like it or not. If I wanted things sugar coated I would go to a bakery. You will get a straight, blunt answer from Connie, but you can also tell she's coming from her heart and from many years of experience. She will look out for you and puts an amazing amount of time and effort into your case. She is unbelievably loyal and absolutely a fighter. Other attorneys and paralegals do not want to tangle with Connie. She will break them down like grandpa's shotgun! My divorce is not yet resolved but I gave them 5 stars because that's how much confidence I have in their ability to resolve my divorce in the manner most satisfactory for my children and me. Michael and Connie have become like family and fight for you as though you are their family. I prayed heavily for God's direction and guidance after my wife exited our marriage and I have no doubt God led me to Michael and Connie. I talked to several attorneys and just never received the peace that I received after my consultation with Michael and Connie. They have been a God sent blessing throughout this painful process and I cannot more highly recommend them. If you need an attorney call them, have a consultation and you can rest assured your search for the best is over.

I was very dissatisfied after I paid her fully for what she charged. It was the first time I had to seek legal advise because I was being sued. She was recommended by my son’s lawyer who was also being sued for the same property, so I assumed she had all information. She called me and I told her I was servicing my car I did not know that was my consultation. I tried to make an appointment with her twice and she refused. On three seperate occasions she threaten to withdraw from the case and eventually did without my knowledge. She also dropped my countersuit without my knowledge . I paid her $4500 a flat rate up to trial. The only thing she did was write two correspondents to the court on my behalf. Personally I think she is unethical and untrustworthy based on the experience I had.

Atty Payne has been my attorney on a civil matter for a couple of years. I received a judgment in my case and paid Atty Payne an additional $950.00 to determine if the defendants wages could be garnered. I also asked for assistance in filing liens. After being unable to contact her for 3 or 4 months, I made several phone calls to her office but none of my phone calls have returned. All I want now is my $950.00 returned so that I can have another attorney complete the actions that I asked her to complete.

Let me first start off by saying that the justice system for people of color is a joke. I contacted Attorney Kelly Collier for representation by a referral of Zona Long Bailbond in Bartow. Being that my family had never had to seek bail or a defense attorney we weren't familiar with either company. We selected the two above mentioned companies. Not one of best decisions. I should have been alarmed when I was advised by the bondsman that they were legally unable to provide any attorney info but just so happen to have Attorney Colliers contact information visible for me to use. Once the initial meeting with Mr. Collier took place he was paid in full. He advised that he would be getting with the state to discuss if charges would even be filed against his newly hired client. We met Mr. Collier on 4/24/23 he seemed as if he was truly going to be able to assist in the matter. At time of initial meeting Mr. Collier was made aware that the potential plaintiff want to sign a waiver of prosecution but due to personal reason was unable to go to courthouse. I asked as the attorney for defendant would he be able to assist with get the waiver completed, his response was less that helpful. He could care less with assisting with clearing his clients name. From that point forward he was just another body at every appointment and seemed to never know what was going on. He was late to every hearing never recognized his client when he finally showed up. Just tacky and very unbecoming. He allowed the courts to continue to drag out proceedings instead speaking up on his clients behalf. The case was drug on for 7 months and Mr. Collier did absolutely nothing. He rarely answered the phone or responded to emails. On the morning of the final hearing 11/08/23 Mr. Collier was yet again late and walked into the courtroom and could not identify his client. As I sat in the hall he walks out and I addressed him. There is no victim & no actual proof of a crime committed so we are still uncertain how the state has a case. He acted as if he was dumbfounded as to this news. Yet he has the audacity to tell me the state wants to offer his client 1 year of probation. Funny thing is he never notified his client prior to this hearing. He assumed that we would accept this under duress. I instantly said no and it’s time for him to do his job. At this time he proceed to tell me that he is working two courtrooms and would be back. I had to the remind him that he has been paid in full & this defendant is also just as important even if he can’t remember his name or face. Time comes as his client stands before the judge the charges are instantly dropped. But of course had we accepted that one year of probation he would be another victim of the unjust justice system. We paid Attorney Collier for representation and almost got railroaded. To make matters even worse he wants to charge $500 to assist with record expungement. I would NOT recommend this attorney to anyone. Did not feel that he valued the importance of ensuring that my family was vindicated.

John Lynch is rude, he doesn’t explain anything to you. I had to try to find ways to get my boyfriend out of jail. He’s been locked up for 6 months now and hasn’t even went to VOP court. I tried to get him out on Behavioral court and John Lynch refused to ask the state Attorney. His court date just got moved to the end of July and the lawyer has not put in any motion to get him a bond or anything. He waited 5 months for even visiting my boyfriend in jail. Was only there like 10 minutes and didn’t explain anything to him. I paid $2000 and my boyfriend would of been better off with a public defender. This lawyer is so sketchy. He only text not calls and you have to pay him through Western Union.

John Lynch went above and beyond what is expected of an attorney. Every phone call and message was returned and every question and concern was addressed promptly and accurately. There was no issue left unresolved and no detail for my defense was forgotten or overlooked. He updated me through each stage of the court process and successfully won my case with a motion to suppress evidence that was illegally obtained. He worked very hard for me and with me. Mr. Lynch is an expert lawyer who cares about his clients rights. I highly recommend him to everyone who needs a criminal lawyer. He knows the law and will fight for justice.

I hired John Lynch and twice he showed up in court disheveled and unorganized. He would not answer a question another time and threaten to get a court officer to bar me from the court house. I do not feel he fought my case to his full potential. After the case was done he would not answer or return my calls. Biggest regret of my life! I am still paying people back money loaned to pay attorney.

In 2008, I was referred to Stacey McNelis through a military lawyer referral program at Fort Shafter, HI. I explained my situation to Ms. McNelis and gave me legal advice that I followed exactly, which caused me to lose custody of my son for two years. I hired her immediately after an emergency motion was filed against me in Polk County. At the hearing, she allowed the judge to threaten kidnapping charges against me without speaking up to tell the judge that she was the one who told me I could legally pick up my son the way I did. For a year, I worked with Ms. McNelis from Hawaii, in a completely different time zone. She constantly charged me full rates (in ten minute increments) for voicemails I would have to leave and emails due to the time difference. Her assistant at the time, Yesenia, was very helpful but I normally spoke with her and got charged just to turn around and have to speak with Ms. McNelis and get charged again. After paying her over $7,000, a year later, with no movement on my case, I terminated her services and hired another attorney. Within a year, I was at a final hearing and was awarded custody of my son again. After my hearing, I contacted Ms. McNelis and asked her to refund half of my fees for her overcharging me and not being able to progress on my case. She refused. I am still active duty Army, and aside from the money I wasted on her services (or lack thereof), my son still deals with emotional scarring because he was forced to remain in an unsafe home due to Ms. McNelis’ initial failures through her unsound legal advice.

I was fortunate enough to have used Mrs. McNelis to represent me with my case. She was not only able to keep me from the worst possible outcome, but she was also extremely aggressive and had a strong presence in the courtroom, and fought for me 100% to the end. I was very impressed by her professionalism and I would refer her to anyone in need of aggressive representation in any legal matter.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
