I was taken a back by my first initial conversation with Mr Hydenrych as he gave the impression of having a huge chip on his shoulder and a bit arrogant. To be honest I was not sure if this was going to be a good fit, then it came to mind that his demeanor was exactly what would make him a good attorney. I would recommend Mr Hydenrych as a defence attorney any day of the week.

When wrongfully sued in a civil case, I really did not know what to do. I contacted 4 different attorneys. The 1st one would not even hear the details about the case unless I paid him up front 1st. The other 3 after hearing the case asked me if I only any real property, ... when hearing no, they said to me, "it's not about your innocence, plead guilty and file bankruptcy." In a world where money is the bottom line and the common denominator, Roger was the only attorney who really listened to my case and asked pertinent questions and researched before informing me of the various options we had before us. He was the only attorney who seem to at all interested in me as a person and understood how guilt or innocence played and ones overall life. He was the only attorney to inform me of the complete landscape of my case. And took the time to explain to me, in a respectful manner why some of my immediate feelings and ideas for proceeding in the case were not prudent nor valuable in establishing my innocence. At the end of this exhausting experience and trial, Roger truly rose above and beyond. He not only one my case but exonerated my innocence. One never plans finding yourself in a heinous lawsuit, if you are looking for an individual who knows the law, will advocate and fight for you, and who will not treat you like a case number, and is not there only to make a buck… Roger Scarborough is the champion you seek.

If you are looking for a defense attorney, STOP LOOKING!!! CONGRATULATIONS, your arduous search is over! Let me start with the bottom line first. Ryan's legal counsel is spot on, and his years of experience are obvious in his expert quality of work. He and his team are kind, honest, transparent, hardworking, respectful, timely, family oriented, have fair prices for outstanding work, non-judgmental, and (the best part besides being an overall good guy) is that Ryan, and his team will go ABOVE AND BEYOND to fight for you in and out of court. His win record in Washington County speaks for itself for a reason. His paralegal, April, is nothing short of amazing and is a model of the highest standard for her profession. I cannot convey enough praise about Ryan and his team. Here's why. Literally, overnight my entire life was uprooted, turned upside down, lit ablaze and left for ruin in what is and will be the worst and scariest time of my life. Ryan Corbridge and his team became my brother in arms in my darkest hours of need and helped me get out of multiple dire situations. I was facing multiple charges brought on by false allegations from my ex-wife in a nasty divorce that placed everything in my life in jeopardy, including the ability to see my three young children. During this time I was forced out of my home, lost my job, and was crippled while recovering from a serious injury. When I first went to Ryan and his wife Sarah, he gave me a free consultation, heard my story with an unbiased open-mind, were professional and kind, told me what my options were, how he would advocate for me and what to expect from the process. Let me you, he DELIVERED on everything! Over a years span, Ryan, not only on a single occasion, but multiple occasions, helped get me released from detainment, fought fiercely in and out of court so I could see my children, got my ex-wife impeached on several different occasions for perjury, got an RO dropped, and got me FULLY ACQUITTED from two criminal charges and a contempt of court that had the potential to set me up for personal and professional hardship. This includes responding to outside of business hours emergency calls/situations. PREP: April is hands down the best at her job coordinating and compiling your evidence and engaging with the court to support your case. This includes paying attention to highly detailed situations and circumstances that required diligent focus and hard work to maintain accuracy. Ryan will efficiently and clearly review with you all your options, create the needed motions to defend your case, and will prepare you for trial and testifying if needed. This is immensely helpful for not only you and your comfort, but to give you the best outcomes in high stress court situations. Trust me, most lawyers do not take this extra important step and leave you to fend for yourself. IN COURT: Ryan acts as the glue with a punch between where preparation and opportunity meet to get you successful outcomes in court. With creativity, expert tact and delivery, he becomes a fierce articulate storytelling bulldog to advocate for you; playing the "in-between the lines" game of intra-court dynamics for each the judge, prosecutor, and cross-examines witnesses like Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men. He takes all situations, with either jury or bench trials, into account, prepares accordingly, and fights for what he thinks is honorable and right. His prices are fair, upfront, flexible on payment collections, and comes without hidden nickel and diming. He and his wife understand that you come to them seeking help in highly stressful situations in your life and do NOT try to monetarily exploit you in the process while you're at your most vulnerable like most other lawyers do. I cannot tell you how comforting, and worth every penny, his representation and his team's support has been. With emphatic praise, I highly recommend Ryan and his team to my family, friends and anyone needing legal representation.

Hired this "attorney?" for a child custody case for my daughter. Extremely unprofessional in her demeanor and attire. She charges $275.00 an hour for her services and will charge you for every little thing! During her/our first hearing with the judge, she was unable to even present her case after a combative attitude and heated arguments with the judge. Judge decided case without even speaking to my daughter, or any of her witnesses because of this. We fired her and her final bill was trumped up to squeeze out every last dime from us...Final cost: $5500.+ just up to the FIRST hearing! BUYER BEWARE, it is our opinion that it is all about running up the bill with her!

When we came to Shelley, we were desperate. My husband had been dealing with having his daughter withheld from him at random, and constant abusive text messages from his daughter's mother. His daughter was not in the greatest situation, and the judge was believing all of the lies that were being told to her for years upon years. Enough was enough! We searched and searched, Shelley came to the rescue! She gave us hope, and reminded my husband that he IS a good father, and deserves his daughter on a consistent basis. She gave specific guidance on how to organize information and give it to her. She did not make any open ended promises. Shelley is very black and white. She keeps it real. She isn't going to sugar coat things for you, or fluff things up to make them what they aren't. If she needs something or has a concern she will bring it to the appropriate person's attention in a professional manner. She helped make our family complete. She has been a great investment to our family, and gave us what we were not able to achieve on our own...our daughter. Not only was my husband granted more parenting time, but he was also granted sole custody. Now we can rest easy knowing that she is getting the BEST possible care and education, all thanks to Shelley Fuller! We love her!

She's great if your case is easy, or if you're actually guilty, or if you want to sign a plea deal. Elvia got insanely rude with me once she realized I was not going to sign a plea deal because I didn't see it fit for the crime, so she requested a trial. During that time, I took it upon myself to request a different attorney and the judge granted it - which hardly ever happens, shows you how horrible she is. Long story short, my new attorney got my case dismissed. Please, don't go to her.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
