I contacted this attorney when I got into a jam with a DUI in the past I have dealt with other attorneys they’ve always been interested in one thing and one thing only money. This guy was fair honest I dealt with the attorney directly and not his office staff, which was amazing., he was always able to communicate directly with me and again, not through a paralegal. I could reach him by cell phone and texting all the time which was very convenient and most of all he was very affordable. I highly recommend this gentleman I will be using his services in the future and refer all family and friends with the need of a good lawyer that’s honest and will not leave your bank account empty .

Attorney Dethlefs is a lawyer who works very hard to research and win a case. He cares about his clients - you will never feel like "just another client". He worked very hard on my case to keep me literally "up to the minute" on what was happening. I never felt "in the dark" or received any confusing documents. He was always available to take my phone calls - I often heard back from him within the hour. Attorney Dethlefs is very professional and I would not hesitate to hire him again or recommend him to anyone.

I have worked with attorneys for 42 years and I have found him and his law firm to be the easiest to contact and the most responsive of all the attorneys. I have worked with attorney Dethlefs for the past 15 years and he gives answers and gets things done.

Attorney Dethlefs prepared me for the court appearance, was informed and very prepared for the case. Although, we thought we may have to eventially prevail throught an appeal to a higher court, the case presented was decided in our favor at the lower court and the plaintiff actually ended up being admonished by the judge.

Worked with Ted Adler as our arbiter. His decision was ...bizarre. He says that facts are not in dispute which are most definitely directly in dispute. He goes along with verbal testimony that conflicts with contemporary documents and even endorses portions of defense testimony when it is inconsistent with itself. He makes statements that "there is no evidence" when there are documents in evidence and associated testimony.

I found Mr Perry through a friend who is an attorney himself. My attorney friend did not know Mr Perry personally, but told me that he had an exemplary reputation as a litigator among other attorneys. My friend advised me that if I was looking for the best criminal defense attorney in the area that I should strongly consider Brian Perry. I took his advice and hired Brian for my case. From the start I was impressed with him. Our initial meeting was casual yet down to business, I felt like Brian was on my side and was going to fight for me through this process. He was a straight shooter who immediately went to work looking at different avenues that we could use to fight this. I really appreciated that he had a set price for each stage of the process, rather than charging by the hour. I had previously used an attorney who was hourly, and I was afraid to email, text, or call him because I knew that was going to result in a charge. With Brian I knew what each phase was going to cost, and I didn't have to worry about some question that I had costing me $300. I also really appreciate it that I knew what the general cost we're going to be up front depending on how things went with the case. It was a weight off my mind knowing what I was looking at as far as cost rather than it being some open book where at the end I get a surprise bill. Throughout the process Brian was available via text to me when I had questions that came up. His assistant Kara was extremely responsive, always getting back to me within an hour. I really cannot say enough about the guidance that they provided through this difficult time. I hope to never need their services again, but if I ever find myself needing an attorney, I will be sure to hire Brian Perry again.

Brian Perry is a top notch lawyer who will get the job done, period. I’ve hired Brian on 2 occasions and each time I’ve come away with a sentence I never would have expected. A combined total from the 2 cases equaled 14 years in prison and over $35,000 in fines. Each situation ended up with a sentence of 1 year of probation, a minimal fine and court costs. Brian will put you at ease during the first meeting as he reviews your case and explains the charges in detail so you can understand and make decisions. He is very thorough, hard working and always gets the best results possible. I trust Brian completely and would recommend him to family and friends knowing they are in the best hands. When you weigh his fee to the cost of losing your freedom it’s an easy decision. ‘You get what you pay for’ isn’t just a saying it’s the truth.

I highly recommend Susan if you are looking for an attorney. We hired Susan for a criminal case involving a family member who had been arrested and charged with some very serious crimes that could of resulted in life in prison. The case ended up going to jury trial, and becasuse of Susan's knowledge of the law and her hard work through out the case the family member was charged with a misdemeanor and was released from jail immediately. She is a top notch lawyer and my family will be forever thankful to her.

If I could leave less than 1 star I would. If you want to waste your money, this is the lawyer for you. Over-charged, didn't explain anything during the process, plea deal was switched up and wasn't explained what that meant and how that affected things. Was completely blindsided when it came to sentencing, then when I tried to call and ask questions I was yelled at and cussed out by attorney Lauer. Patrick Lauer had no idea what was happening through my case he just showed up and took money from me. Honestly feel I would have been better off representing myself. 10/10 do not recommend.

I hired Shane and I regretted it. His office would reschedule appointments last minute. There have been a few instances when I arrived at his Camp Hill office for an appointment to find it closed. He forgets what you have told him and repetition becomes necessary. He keeps smoking that smokeless cigarette and seems uninterested in what his client is going through. He comes late for appointments. He came unprepared to the Court and lost my case. In my opinion he used to be good but not anymore.

I hired Mr. White to handle a misdemeanor case that threatened my State Parole. I was on a state detainer because of those charges, so he communicated mostly with my wife but did so flawlessly. Over the course of 8 months, he fought for me the entire way. They ended up dropping all charges and my detainer was lifted. I have been thriving on parole ever since. There is a review on here saying he didn’t do anything for that person. My experience was completely different. My family and I still consult Attorney White to this day. He is a good person who will fight until the end.

I hired Mr. White in 2018 to represent me in a criminal matter. He did almost nothing on my case. At court, it became clear he had not read the documentation I had provided proving my innocence, nor had he issued subpoenas for (or even spoken to) the witnesses on the witness list he requested from me. He failed to ask relevant questions at the hearing and did not provide an effective cross examination of witnesses against me. I dropped him as soon as my original hearing was over and went with a public defender, who -- upon actually reviewing my case and talking to my witnesses -- negotiated total dismissal of all charges against me. The quality of represenatation Mr. White's provided is the epitome of why lawyers have bad reputations.

Mr palermo is a good human being other than that he is not a good lawyer i had him for 2020 oct to January and he gives off that vibe that he is partnering up with ADA because their friends outside that court room. He never talked to me about my case and he will keep you guessing what's happening next. He is not a fighting lawyer he is a lawyer that once he got your money he will stop talking a good game. And handle it the way he wants. He does not come up with any solutions he let the prosecution come up with all of it he does not know how to agociate. Unless u want your money wasted for a easy case dont get him for anything unless you wanna waste your money and put your freedom in someones hands whos only worried about getting the money.i would not recommend taking him to trial because he is to close with the ADAs. And feels like hes against me with the way he talk about the case. MOP is not a fighting lawyer look else where looming out for the people that are good he will help ruin that.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
