Neel McCoon is a diligent and thorough attorney who has an impressive understanding of the law in Georgia. He handled the establishment of a new entity for me, a non-profit to benefit homeless and needy veterans. His fees and rates are very reasonable. This review comes with the highest recommendation I can give.

This was my first time getting in trouble with the law and Minerva Blanchette and her team were SO helpful! She was very upfront with possible outcomes based on my case. My incident occurred right before COIVD hit and my court date kept getting pushed, however, Minerva and her team, especially Tyler, were great at keeping up communication and making sure all my questions were answered. Ms Blanchette is highly knowledgeable and very well known in the local court system. I would hire her again in a heartbeat. I was so thankful for my outcome! It was better than what I could have asked for! Thanks again to the Blanchette team for being s0 great!

BEST CRIMINAL ATTORNEY IN THE AREA!! I came to Mrs Blanchette with an 11 count case which included Trafficking 4oz of Meth, Possession of a Firearm with altered Serial Numbers, DUI, and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a crime. I had previously hired another law firm in the area and paid them $10,000. That firm could only get me a final offer from the DA of 25 yrs to serve 10 yrs minimum. I contacted Minerva Blanchette 3 days before my plea hearing and she agreed to take the case. Minerva, Tyler, and her staff immediately began working hard to review my case. She was able to find a motion to suppress the evidence in my case and I just walked out of court today clear on all felony counts. All charges were dismissed except 2 traffic violations due to the wreck I was in. I could not be happier and without a doubt would highly recommend this firm to anyone needing an attorney in the Bartow, Cherokee, and North GA Circuit. Minerva saved my life and I could never repay all that she has given me back

Attorney Ana represented me on a battery case is Paulding County and got the charge dismissed. I was arrested for a battery against my girlfriend but there was a total misunderstanding on the case. Things got blown way out of proportion, but, the cops or the DA would not listed to her and drop the charges. She was told that she could not drop charges because the State picked up the charges. This attorney was recommended to me by my co-worker. When I called the office, I was able to talk to Ana right there and then. She scheduled me to come in and meet with her and told me her plan on helping me. She met with my girlfriend and listened to what had really happened and, long story short, she got my charges dismissed. She outshines all of the other attorneys I had consulted with and I am thankful I went with her.

First off it's not okay to drink and drive or drive under the influence, BUT it had been hours since my last drink. I was drinking water since that last drink. Luckily the office who pulled me over had me on video. Yes I did take a right corner a little sharp hitting the shoulder line, but I was well within my limits to drift that corner a little close. I was by no means endangering anyone or myself. Still the officer pulled me over and performed a sobriety test. It was kind of hokey so I hired this attorney. Ana managed to get the charges dismissed. Through the whole process she answered all of my questions and settled my concerns. I don't look forward to hiring another lawyer but I need one I definitely am coming back.

Mr. Brunt served as our lawyer in a drug felony case. Mr. Brunt was on top of the case from the first time we called him late at night, going to the jail late that night. He communicated ever step that was going to happen in the case and was correct on everything. Through his hard work 4 felony charges were dropped before the trial. Thank you Neal!!!!

Brian and his paralegal Mike have been excellent to me! My case was handled promptly, and if you are looking for someone who treats people like decent humans and is patient enough to reassure you and answer your questions, please seek his counsel. I filed for bankruptcy and never looked back; things are looking up so far! Also, if you need financial advice after you have filed to ensure you do not find yourself in overwhelming debt again, Brian and his staff are definitely the people for you! I have my life back and am on the road to financial greatness. Thank you so much for everything!

If I could give this company negative star I would. If you are considering using them DON'T!!!. Firstly they DON'T have FREE consultation they are liars. Zachary Moore was suppose to be my lawyers he never contacted me, never responded to my emails never did anything. When I ask back for the refund for the money I paid after five (5)months I am then told they are taking $150 for consultation out of the money I paid them. The SAME Consultation that is listed FREE online, very unethical company. Only thing this company should have done is apologize for not doing anything for me for over 5months. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS LAW FIRM!!!

I had a simple problem with water runoff that took over 1 year and no results. Many weeks/months without any contact with me despite giving $5000 retainer. He said that the billing would be transparent but wasn't and before I knew it he had exceeded my retainer. I was naive because I assumed professionalism and ethics but got ripped off. Later I got a free consult from Jenkins and Bowen which helped me MUCH more - they were awesome!

Eminent Domain is extremely intense for anyone to experience. Don Evans took our Eminent Domain situation and explained how the law works and what we needed to do in order to receive just and fair compensation as defined in the law. Mr. Evan's explanation of the law and my interpretation of the law was a little different and he not only convinced me that he was the attorney I knew would defend my rights but also be able to explain to a jury so they would understand as we did the first time we met him. Don Evans has a unique way of explaining things through analogies. Simple and plan comparisons were extremely helpful for me to understand, but more importantly, the jury of my peers. The Dept. of Transportation felt that my home and business in which I have operated the state licensed business for the past 26 years out of my home, was not worthy of any justification other than the home itself. When the jury came back after only an hour of deliberation and awarded us $1,7 million dollars for relocation of my home and business, I was convinced that it was through the expertise of Don Evans and his team that made this happen. In the courtroom, Don Evans reminded me of a conductor of an orchestra and the musical symphony was exquisite. Play on Don, more people need you to hear their music and conduct their orchestra. We highly recommend Don Evans and his law firm. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to an attorney who actually cares. Similes Don!

When my husband and I hit a time in our life where we had nowhere else to turn and needed the professional help of an attorney the only place that would help us was the Evans Law Firm. Donald Evans followed through on everything he said he would accomplish and our situation was resolved with the best possible outcome. It wasn’t just the attorney that made this horrible time a little easier to manage, it was also his paralegal Stacy Swinks. It didn’t matter if I had a question everyday, whether it was important in the big picture of things or not, she recognized that people need reassurance and some of her answers, important or not, helped keep us calm and informed at all times. By far, this law firm not only handles your legal problems with the best representation, but are also there for you with compassion and are honest with you about all aspects of your case, good or bad. Thanks Don and Stacy!!

Does not return phone calls or e-mails. Missed a scheduled court date (that took 2 months to schedule) and didn't even bother to call me to tell me not to show up to court (I had to stand in court for half an hour to discover my case was being rescheduled). I am up to 12 months and $3500 and he still hasn't done the main thing I requested which is to get my child support lowered based on my current income (which is nearly 1/2 what it was when child support was first set). I finally sent a certified return receipt letter and now, a month later, he still hasn't contacted me. My next step is a complaint with the bar association.

Paid the lawyer every last dime we had to meet his high fee. He pumped us up in his office telling us how good and storing our case was and assured us he would be with through out the whole process and his exact words were "I'm not going to abandon you in this case, so don't worry about anything" he took our money and did not hear from him again until the day before our court date. It is next to impossible to get anyone on the phone there or get a return call. The lady that answers the phone is very rude. He basically said what we wanted to hear to get our money then opened the window and threw it away. He lost our case and the other party came in with out an attorney, got everything she wanted including high high child support and yet I'm the one who paid for the whole thing! I supposedly hired him to represent me, but he got chewed up and spit out! He filed our case wrong from the beginning to make it go faster that mad the judge mad and thanks to Mr. Johnson we lost everything! Never ever use this law firm, they are over priced and they don't care two hoots about you or your case once they have your money!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
