Parvine is the best! Absolutely, hands down, bar none! I was being railroaded with a criminal matter and a friend referred me to her. She took the time to speak with me constantly and put my mind at ease. I walked away with nothing more than fines and a small probation. It’s all been said and done for a while, but we still talk on a regular basis. She calls just to say hello and just talk with me about anything. I love this woman and how good of a person she is.

My family and I recently lost our eldest sister. There were a lot of things that we needed to understand prior to making any decisions. Mr Head was thorough in looking over all paperwork meticulously and giving clear and concise explanations of issues that our family needed to understand going forward. I can honestly say that once we understood, our decision moving forward was easy. My family and I cannot express enough gratitude for Mr. Head for taking the time to assist us. On behalf of myself and my brother and sister, I would highly recommend Mr. Heads knowledge for anyone having issues.

I and my mom consulted Mr. Head for assistance with an estate concern that included the complexities of multiple properties in multiple states, a decedent's (father's) potential probate, and living trusts that were complicated by socio-generational issues related to 1st generation Americans. Though VERY late in offering this endorsement, I want to share that he was a consummate professional, was highly knowledgeable, kind, empathetic, and had the insight to recognize what might need the assistance of other expertise outside of his wheelhouse. I found his character and engagement to be of the highest order and I can't thank him or highly recommend him enough. Abet late, I highly recommend and support Mr. Shawn Head for any of your needs for relevant legal expertise.

I was in the process of dealing with a six-year-old case which I had a warrant for. I kept putting it off because of work and just life basically along with the fear of incarceration. Finally this past November I conjured the courage up and went to pay the warrant. They gave me a court date which Iwas present for and the judge was none too pleased and really exaggerating my probation violations and was strongly pushing drug court on me. I am nearly two years clean and sober and in a methadone program which I informed the judge with proof of treatment. The judge told me to report to probation later on that week which I did. A slight miscommunication led to another probation violation and court date and that is where Mr. Komorn comes into play. Also I was slapped with another warrant in which Mr. Komorn was able to get lifted. Long story short is if it was not for Mr. Komorn I would be sitting in jail for 93 days right now. Jail is not a place anyone wants to be for very obvious reasons and I fear jail more than anything because of my methadone program prescription. Methadone withdrawal unfortunately is worse than heroin withdrawal which caused me to seek treatment in the first place. That is the unfortunate truth about the matter but Mr. Komorn went above and beyond to make sure that would not be my fate. With his help I am now re-instated into probation albeit with less stringent terms than the first time. Long story short for anyone going through a driving under influence case and anything beyond or in-between I would highly recommend this law firm, They are very thorough and hands on and will get you right!

I feel blessed that I found Michael Komorn and hired him to represent me in a complicated case, this guy is simply amazing . Since I first talked with him over the phone I felt confident with his expertise. Michael advised me from the beginning to the end of my case. We had a HUGE win at the court thanks to him. I have no words to show my appreciation to him, HE is the BEST!!!

I recently had a phone consultation with Ray, and while I typically treat BAR members like I treat Federal Reserve Notes—acknowledge their existence but don’t put too much faith in them—I have to admit, this one didn't immediately trigger my "fraudulent adhesion contract" radar. A rare feat, indeed. To my surprise, Ray was knowledgeable, professional, and didn't try to gaslight me into believing I’m just another helpless soul lost in the maritime fog of presumed liability. He actually listened, provided solid insights, and—brace yourself—spoke in a way that didn’t require me to decode legalese like I’m deciphering an IRS tax form while blindfolded. Now, am I ready to swear an oath of allegiance to the BAR? Absolutely not! But did this consultation help ease my situation and clarify some key points? Yes. He may not have issued me a Letter of Marque, but at least he didn’t try to drag me back onto the pirate ship. For those navigating the choppy waters of the legal system while trying to remain in the private, this attorney might just be a safe port… or at least a dry dock that doesn’t come with an automatic lien. Would I recommend them? Let’s just say, if you ever find yourself in a legal pickle and don’t have time to hit them with an affidavit first, they might be worth a call. Just make sure you’re not unwittingly entering into a contract—because, as we know, silence can sometimes be construed as consent. -- Sincerely, but not legally binding, nor to be misconstrued as consent to any jurisdiction outside my own. Operating strictly on the land, unencumbered by fraudulent adhesion contracts, declining all offers of joinder (unless they come with a hefty payout, a zero-liability clause, and a notarized apology from the BAR). Refusing to board any Pirate Ship, lest I be mistaken for lost cargo or an involuntary surety in yet another maritime scheme. Navigating only by the true law of the land—Common Law—where my word holds more weight than a Federal Reserve Note post-1933. With all due respect (which, as we know, is contractually undefined, thus measured solely by my own good grace), Unincorporated, Unencumbered, and Unbothered—Keeper of My Own Seal and Governor of My Own Affairs. In honor of the Living Man/Woman, free from legalese, BAR sorcery, and admiralty entrapments— May your motions be granted, your contracts be voidable, and your standing be always Sui Juris. May your notices be unrebutted, your affidavits unchallenged, and your fee schedules enforced at the highest commercial rate. May every attempt at entrapment be met with a swift and merciless estoppel, and may all claims against you be dismissed with prejudice. He was always available to answer my questions and address my concerns with clarity and patience explaining everything in terms I could understand. I recently had the pleasure of working with Kallabat & Associates, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed with their level of professionalism, expertise, and compassion. From the moment I stepped into their office, I felt at ease knowing that I was in capable hands. The attorneys took the time to carefully review my case and provided me with sound legal advice on how to proceed. They were patient, understanding, and always willing to answer my questions, no matter how trivial they may have seemed. Their attention to detail and commitment to providing the best possible outcome for their clients is truly commendable. Throughout the entire bankruptcy process, they were with me every step of the way, ensuring that I was well-informed and prepared for each stage. Their diligence and expertise resulted in a successful outcome for my case, and I couldn't be more grateful. This has truly changed my life, so thank you all. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking legal assistance with their bankruptcy case. Their team of skilled attorneys, combined with their exceptional customer service, make them an excellent choice for anyone in need of financial relief.

Moses and his team made the whole process extremely smooth and easy from day 1. The immigration process is extremely stressful and thankfully, Moses eased all our worries constantly. He is detail oriented and made sure every aspect of our application was perfect. He kept us updated on all status changes and directed us perfectly. On top of doing his job as a lawyer perfectly, he was emotionally supportive and kept us calm when the stress of the immigration process got to us. I couldn’t have imagined a better lawyer or better team to get us through this process! He got my husband to arrive in America as fast as possible, and we are eternally grateful.

Joe Lavigne is an exceptional attorney and an even better human being. He's extremely compassionate, uber-responsive and highly intelligent. He is even a resource for the police community and trains officers on the utilization and dynamics of the DataMaster Breathalyzer. My OWI was high profile and involved an accident. I needed the best representation possible. I thought I did my homework interviewing more than 6 locally based attorneys, because I felt that was necessary given the accident and the "homer" culture of the community. I hired someone who advertises a ton and claims to be the best. The reviews looked good. But his arrogance and lack of compassion showed through after I paid him, so I moved on. Then, I hired another attorney who was recommended due to his connections to the judges. I thought that was extremely important, so I hired and paid him too. This guy, however, was consistently unresponsive. He even put in a substitute attorney for a video hearing! But then I learned about Joe and hired him, despite feeling backed into a corner because of the locality. I made a lot of mistakes in this process but one thing is clear: It does not matter where you are in Michigan, local representation does not matter. It can actually even hurt you, since some attorneys put themselves and their community relationships first. You need someone who is smart, thorough, responsive, compassionate and gets the job done. Understanding of the law is what matters! Joe Lavigne is all of that and more. He delivers results!

The best decision I ever made was hiring Joe Lavigne. His negotiation skills are unmatched and he is extremely professional and courteous with all parties when it comes to handling matters in a case. Joe managed to take a felony case punishable by a minimum of 25 years in prison down to a lesser charge with a 6 month probation period with dismissal of all charges upon completion of probation. He does not push you to make any decision you do not want to make, but will give you all of the facts and perspectives so that you can make a fully educated decision on where to take the case. You can tell he truly cares for his clients and is committed to doing whatever needs to be done to get a favorable outcome. Every time I met with Joe or was with him in court I always felt calm and collected knowing he was by my side during this trying ordeal. Hire this man. You will NOT regret it.

Signed in good faith, but never in commerce, By My Own Hand and Authority, Standing as the Chief Executor, Attorney-in-Fact Over the ALL CAPS Estate, Duly Noticed and Recorded, Perpetually Out of Reach of Any Fraudulent Presumptions. Govern yourself accordingly.

Words cannot explain what a great Lawyer Amanda Paletz makes or what a great person she is. This world is truly a better place with defense attorneys such as Amanda defending the innocent. She is so unbelievable and personable with all the time and hard work she put into my case. I also thank her family for being so understanding while she worked around the clock, on holidays and yes even weekends. I cannot thank her enough or will she ever know how grateful my family and myself are to have had her in my corner fighting for me. I look up to her so much having tremendous respect for her. It brings tears of joy to my family and I how she defended me, believed in me and trusted me. Raymond Cassar Law firm and all of his hard working staff are top notch and one of a kind! They make you feel like family. Thank you again and I am so thankful to everyone that prayed for me and helped me out, for being a shoulder to lean on and just there to listen.

Questions? We have answers

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
