I have had the pleasure of using Bob's services several times— his integrity, knowledge, and experience have consistently impressed me. His deep understanding of the law and dedication to his clients set him apart, not to mention his empathetic nature. I have recommended him to several friends and colleagues, all of whom have had equally positive experiences. If you're looking for a trustworthy and highly skilled attorney, he is the one to call.

I came to Isaiah with a very emotionally charged case that involved changing the custody agreement for my child. Isaiah was honest and real with me from the beginning. I always felt heard, understood and knew that the best interests of my case were his priority. I could not have asked for a better outcome in the courtroom. I am beyond thankful that Isaiah is in my corner!

Isaiah has been my lawyer for three years. He helped me through a divorce and custody battle as well as a criminal case. I’ve never doubted him and have trusted his advice and knowledge over the years. Isaiah has his clients best interest at heart. He will go to the ends of the world to make sure he is doing everything he possibly can to help you. I always feel like I’m his only client. He is dedicated, determined, smart, not afraid to ask his associates for help in order to handle your case with the best of his abilities. He isn’t afraid of the courtroom. I can’t say enough great things about him. I am very grateful and lucky to have Isaiah on my side. This is the man you want to fight along side you in court.

We hired Alex Freeburg to help out with a nasty issue. My family had lost a tidy sum of money to a construction contractor who had then ghosted on us. We were worried we would not get any of our money. But, Alex got us sorted out after just a couple of meetings. He had some great ideas. Sadly, we were not able to get all of our money back. Alex made us feel a lot better while he worked on the case, and he won the judgment against the defendant. We would hire Alex again in a heartbeat.

I recently hired and worked with Alex regarding defense of a misdemeanor. Alex provided invaluable expertise, advice and assistance through the process, ultimately resulting in a full dismissal of all claims. Beyond legal expertise, Alex was kind and understanding - offering peace of mind through the proceeding. Alex is obviously passionate about his work and about his clients and is well versed in the workings of the local courts. Alex went above and beyond to get the best outcome I could have hoped for. I would highly recommend Alex's services.

Mr. Jeff Tennyson accepted a very difficult and complex personal injury case, and handled it from start to finish like a true professional. After my accident, I felt hopeless about being disabled. After Mr. Tennyson settled the case for me, it brought hope back. I fell from a poorly constructed balcony at my neighbor's house in 2006. I had a very hard time even finding an attorney to take my case, because the fall severely exacerbated a pre-existing condition in my spine, causing a great deal of pain. The fact that I had a pre-existing condition made the case much more complex. I've had Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) since I was 11 years old ... so there's really not much I can do about that! I contacted about 10 other attorneys who didn't even want the case because of it. It wasn't clear-cut, easy money. When I first contacted Mr. Tennyson and explained the situation, he agreed that it would clearly be a difficult case ... but then went ahead and took the case anyways! If ever there was an attorney who believes in bringing some form of justice to an injured party, regardless of something like a pre-existing condition that complicates the case, it's Mr. Jeff Tennyson. Becoming disabled and losing everything -- especially your ability to work -- is one of the most deeply devastating things that's ever happened to me. I went to college and had worked all my life. I had a lust for life. I enjoyed traveling, and I was a very active person. Once the accident happened, my entire life came to a crashing halt. Then it was a whole different ballgame. I ballgame I didn't know how to play: a confusing maze of doctors and nurses who may or may not help, insurance companies who may or may not help (usually NOT), and family and friends who may or may not understand what I'm going through. The pain was getting worse and worse with each passing day. Seven months after the fall, I had my entire spine fused with titanium rods in an open-back surgery. In the 2 years since the operation, I developed Failed Back Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Pain became the new constant in my life. It made it very difficult for me to deal with the litigation itself, while I'm simultaneously fighting the pain and trying to regain my health and mobility. Mr. Tennyson was always very aware and considerate of my situation. He wanted me to know that I was always in control of the decision-making in my case, but that at times when I was too sick to be very involved, Mr. Tennyson helped walk me through decisions that needed to be made. He kept me informed of the important aspects of what was going on with my case, but didn't overwhelm me with all the details. Most importantly, I felt I could trust him completely to act on my behalf while I focused on my health. That's why I say that Mr. Tennyson puts the "personal" in personal injury. He actually cares about and listens to his clients. Due to the severity of the pain after my fall, I was unable to work. I had to close the business I had just begun operating a year earlier. So, of course, I lost all my income. By the time I had the operation 7 months later, I was in so much pain that I had lost my ability to walk. My husband and I had to sell everything we owned to keep up with the bills and COBRA payments. Eventually my marriage fell apart from the stress of it all. No, it's certainly not easy being seriously injured. It is personal. It's hard enough having to deal with the health care system. Mr. Tennyson was so helpful throughout the course of my 3-year case. He was like the captain of a ship in stormy seas. He is honest and trustworthy, and is so responsive to the fact that his personal injury clients are real injured people -- not just dollar signs or case numbers. Whenever I had questions, he had answers. When I called his office, he was usually available. He actually reads and answers his emails. He contacted me with any new information I needed. When I was in too much pain or too sick to handle the case, he handled it for

I engaged The Ochs Law Firm to represent me in a class action law suit against Monsanto in regard to their product Roundup. The Ochs Law firm explained the process clearly and realistically. They kept us informed at all stages of the process; which was both lengthy and complex. At all times they were expert at managing expectations and at keeping us advised of next steps. Due to their hard work and understanding of the class-action process they were successful in negotiating a settlement far beyond our original expectations. I would strongly encourage you to select The Ochs Law firm if you are looking for an effective representation. You can trust them to do a superior job and to win a superior outcome.

After I paid thousands for his legal “expertise”, he tried convincing me to plead guilty for a crime I never committed. He never had my back. If I would have followed his advice, I would have lost my career. I went against his “expertise” and fought back and the case was dismissed. He was terribly responsive throughout and didn’t even tell me the final verdict; I had to call the courts myself. Save yourself the time and money and find someone else!

This man misrepresented himself as a seasoned Criminal Trial Attorney. He was paid close to 100,000 dollars and after 21 months to prepare for my son's trial, he was not prepared, did not have knowledge of the case facts, forensics, or witness statements from prosecution witnesses. At least 4 main witnesses for the prosecution had made multiple statements, none of which were consistent. Witness statements were not even consistent with one another, even after admittedly being prepped by the prosecution team. When we asked questions in regards to his negligence in questioning these witnesses about these inconsistencies, Mr. Fix had no answer. When the prosecution presented false information as to my son's expert jujitsu training and his involvement in professional football, he did not even ask for their proof of these claims. When approached again as to why he was not bringing anything into question, he became angry, upset and brought up money, the fact that we had not paid him enough to give this case his undivided attention or to hire anyone to help. My son was accused of 1st degree murder, he was to present a self defense case. Mr. Fix had ignored or was completely ignorant of forensic evidence that could have been presented but never was. He had this information pointed out to him during trial and was questioned by his client as to why he was not questioning any of the statement inconsistencies by the prosecution's witnesses, false allegations made by the prosecution and his dereliction of duty in presenting evidence, he had in front of him, during the trial. This was once again answered with yelling and anger toward his client. Mr. Fix was waiting for a plea my son would except. A plea was never considered by my son or our family. There was ample evidence to support self defense. However, Mr Fix informed me, after the first day of trial, if my son received a Second Degree Murder verdict, then he felt he did his job. The promised Private Investigator and Use of Force Expert, paid for, never materialized. One witness was called by the defense during trial, the defendant, my son. Trial took a whole four days, including jury selection. I have been told by legal experts in the State of Wyoming that my son did not even receive a $5 defense by Mr. Fix. 21 months and 100,000 dollars, of which we have yet to receive any documentation of billable hours, was completely wasted. Right before trial Mr. Fix was busy, not working on the case but purchasing his new home in Hawaii! The money, my mother's retirement, was not all that was lost. My son is now wrongfully imprisoned. Money is gone and immediately after trial so was Bill Fix. I have requested documentation for billable hours, Private Investigator and proof of due diligence. Only to receive one email asking for my address. Two years after trial and still nothing!! Shame on anyone who will readily and with intent take advantage of a family dealing with the legal and justice system for the first time. My son had NEVER been in any trouble, served his country in the Air Force with pride. With his future at stake, we mistakenly believed, trusted and counted on Bill Fix to do the job either he wasn't capable of doing or just didn't want to spend the time to do. Who knows how many years my son will have to pay for this huge error in judgment and very misplaced trust!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
