My friend recommended Arpa to take care of my complex criminal and licensure case. Arpa’s office promptly scheduled an appointment to meet and discuss the charges I was facing after I posted bail. Before the meeting with Arpa, I was distraught, depressed, and severely anxious. The court system is difficult to navigate and extremely intimidating, especially when you are feeling vulnerable and your emotions are running high. I was like a deer caught in the headlights. Upon meeting Arpa, I felt heard throughout our conversation, his willingness to listen was very obvious and refreshing. From the get-go, Arpa was focused in my case in a very empathetic and collaborative way. The way he explored the details, circumstances, mental state, and prior history was done by creating a safe environment of confidentiality in his office. He guided me in how to gather information that would be helpful during the discovery phase of the pre-trial investigation. Speaking of the legal process, Arpa helped me understand the timeline with a helpful diagram explaining in detail all of the steps and moves in the court system. I appreciated his honest way of presenting the realistic possible ramifications from positive to challenging outcomes; he was very honest and did not sugarcoat how the District Attorney Office thinks and executes their plan of action against defendants. As difficult as it was to digest all of this information, Arpa emphasized that in order to achieve the best outcome, we had to work as a team to tackle and cover every angle of my case. Initially, I felt powerless in a system completely outside my control and understanding; however, Arpa advocated for me and guided me with the decision-making process of selecting the best outcome under my circumstances. His past experience of working with the District Attorney Office was obvious when he anticipated every Prosecutor’s move in my case. I was very satisfied with the manner in which he negotiated and managed my case with the Prosecutor. Arpa did a fabulous job in presenting me the best and worst case scenarios; this was very helpful in preparing myself mentally when I entered a plea and during the sentencing hearing. When I reflect back on my case, one thing comes to mind: It takes two to tango. Thank you Arpa for walking next to me during this difficult time in my life, and for motivating me in looking forward to writing the next chapter of my life!

I'm a disabled veteran with PTSD who got a DUI after a pretty bad panic attack. Arpa was able to help me get a military deferment, which it turned out was pretty hard to do in this particular case. As a result, if I do everything the judge mandated, I can get it dropped completely, charge and arrest.

Prior to his taking on my case, another lawyer was already "representing" me. In retrospect, there is no basis for comparison. Arpa is very skilled(KNOWS his stuff), approachable, relatable and courteous. By that I mean he is not standoffish or demeaning or unnecessarily intimidating. He was recommended to me by a family friend and till date I am and will always be exceedingly glad I listened to the advice I received. Upon speaking with him over the phone, he willingly drove to meet me at a coffee shop located in my city of residence. He offered to get me some coffee and then proceeded to fully hear me out. He then asked me detailed clarifying questions, confirmed all my responses and then he took on my case. I was in a tragic car accident that nearly cost me my life. The last thing I needed was an Attorney who was a migrane. To anyone in need of the best legal representation, look no further please. Seriously. Below is much more details as to why you'll actually be forever grateful as I am, if you hire Arpa as your Attorney. Arpa did above and beyond what I expected and what is typically the norm behavior where Attorneys are concerned. My Dad and Uncle are Lawyers so I personally know and could tell the difference. From the onset Arpa genuinely empathized and made big moves to bring about an outcome that was most closest to the justice that needed to come about in my case. He vigorously pursued, advocated and negotiated BIG on my behalf. Thanks to his stellar negotiation skills THOUSANDS of dollars that I don't have and would have to pay was withdrawn. He got them to see why they should do so. I will forever be indebted and I will be recommending him to family, friends, acquaintances, strangers and whoever else in need of the highest quality legal representation.

Took $10,000 and no results. Michael seems a pleasant lawyer and a good salesman but results were seriously lacking. Always conflicting information between his office and the courts. And seemed to forget specifics of the case in follow up meetings. I always got the feeling he had more important cases to attend to. It’s overall a disappointing experience! I would not recommend.

Madeline is an excellent lawyer, and I would recommend her to anyone. When I was arrested for a DUI, I hired Madeline, and she was able to get my DUI reduced to a "wet reckless" charge instead, so now I have NO DUI ON MY RECORD! Thanks Madeline!

Unhappy with outcome, as I could have gotten the same results representing myself and saving $1,800. Maybe she quoted her fee at that low amount because she knew that she didn't need much incentive and would not be doing much for me besides filing papers and getting one plea option, with no actual defense or effort put forth or contesting on her end. For all who read this $1,800 is a lot for just paperwork, but very little for quality representation, which is not what I got. My penalties and fees were that of a repeat offender, which I was NOT. I would've represented myself and filed my own paperwork if I'd known better. Some attorneys never understand the weight of the responsibility for their clients future they bear when they take on cases, accept retainers and fees, and don't even try. DUI/DWI, from my experience, Madeline is not the best choice. Other attorneys I've consulted with and even personal friends of mine have said that there may have been other approaches to my case to explore. This attorney is just lazy. I do not recommend.

I was charged with multiple DUI offences. My attorney Madeline Galadjian never made any false promises she told me the reality, from the begining. She told me the best and worst possible outcome, and what I needed to do on my own to improve myself. she always responded to any of my calls and met me in person before every court appearance. I wass speech less. The outcome was beyond my expectations.

Jeff Weiss is the BEST criminal defense attorney I have ever had the pleasure of working with during a criminal trial a couple years back. I have recently been dissecting a lot of information about criminal trials I find on the news and I can't help but remember the kind of attorney Jeff was. He was strategic, well prepared, and the most important factor I looked for- he was experienced! If you are currently struggling in a circumstance where you need an attorney to get you out of a tough criminal situation, talk to Jeff! He's reasonable and worth every penny! Take my word for it, I promise he will not fail you when the judicial system is failing you!

Jeff is a very good Defense Attorney. He uses excellent defense legal strategy, stays current on the laws and statues, shows up for appearances, and has empathy for the client. Specifically, Jeff gets the job done, by working the case in the client's best interest. Jeff's fees are reasonable, especially compared to most Criminal Lawyers.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
