Shane Smith took my case when no one else would. Shane himself took my case on and provided me with everything that I needed. They took great care of me and I could always speak to someone when I called. Shane even talked to the hospital that did my surgery and got me to see a physical therapist. My case was a while back, but when I thought about all that he did for me, I had to come back and give him as many stars as I could.

A friend recommended Mr. Ison Jr. a day and a half before our court date. We contacted his office with less than 24 hours to go, discussed the case and he thought he could help and agreed to be in Lamar County the next morning. He is knowledgeable, helped tremendously by knowing the prosecutor, handled our case very well and sure saved us from a long, hard day on our own. I can't recommend Mr. Tommy Ison Jr. any more highly than that and he is down to earth and friendly on top of all that. HIGHLY satisfied and great job!

Mr. Ison kept me informed every step of the way and that was what I appreciated the most. What started out as a felony ended up as a misdemeanor and that, as I have come to know, makes all the difference in the world. Mr. Ison took the time to explain to me all the different possible outcomes of the case and what the consequences would be. He was extremely knowledgeable and seemed to work well with the prosecutor. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who finds themselves stuck in a hard place.

Before now, I've never hired a lawyer for any matter. I didn't even know if my case was worth it. I searched for days looking for a criminal lawyer to handle my case, and most were fairly rude. Holly Peace was the last person I spoke to and she assured me that if we worked together she would do her best to handle my case, and she did. All cases are not the same. There are tons of loopholes and it can be confusing, but Holly always invested time into teaching me everything I needed to know. We walked into court and my case was completely dismissed. Holly diligently provided evidence that supported my innocence and handled all communication for me. I honestly felt like a celebrity in court because there was nothing I needed to say, worry about, and I was able to maintain a certain level of privacy in front of the courtroom. That is not something you will have if you do not hire a lawyer. If you happen to find yourself in an unexpected situation - please hire Holly Peace for any criminal matters. Do not go into court without a lawyer, no matter how small the situation is because the court system can take advantage of you. Huge shoutout to everyone at Manning Peace, including Madi for providing me with my official dismissal papers quickly.

Skyler Taylor is perhaps the best attorney I have ever met. Through his investigation of evidence, knowledge of case law, and effective pre-trial preparation, Skyler achieved the best and most favorable outcome on my behalf and my DWI was dismissed. He is trustworthy and possesses a humble demeanor which both commands respect in the courtroom and enables him to effectively communicate his arguments. Skyler was always available to speak to me regarding my case. He and his staff maintained excellent contact throughout the entire process and were always willing to help. The ENTIRE Skyler Taylor team has been incredible, shoutout to CHRISTINA! I recommend the Skyler Taylor Law firm with confidence!

If you ever find yourself on the wrong side of the law in Fayette County, Skyler is the man to call! He is down to Earth, knowledgeable, and efficient. Skyler doesn't "sugarcoat" things, and is well-versed in dealing with what I call "Fayette County Justice", which sometimes seems to move at a snail's pace. Through it all, he managed to keep me grounded and worked to get my case dismissed in just 9 months. Skyler's retainer and payment plan were affordable, and enabled me to obtain great representation without creating a financial burden on top of everything else I was dealing with. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with his services. I hope I never need a criminal attorney again, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate hiring the Law Office of Skyler A. Taylor again.

Eric and his team consistently provide outstanding service. We’ve worked with this firm for years and have never been disappointed. During the signing of our wills Eric provided helpful guidance and we feel confident that we’ve left our Executrix with what she’ll need to handle our wishes without being burdened by us not being prepared. If you don’t have a will, give them a call. They’ll take great care of you.

I've filed ch13 bankruptcy in 2018. I gave dolhanvyk a list of items that I needed to put into my bankruptcy. All items was add except my state taxes. Once I questioned him about this he stated they didn't respond to the bankruptcy case. So, I needed to call them to make payment arrangements. Fist red flag cause I was thinking that was one reason why I filed bankruptcy plus I was paying a lawyer to do this on my behalf. Through the year he always called/emailed me regarding things that hasn't been done. My last year in bankruptcy 2023 he informed me that I had some missed payments during covid and needed to catch them up before I can be discharge so now at the last minute I had to come up with 2k then I finally finished paying all of my debt in October 2023. Afterwards I kept asking about my discharge letter and he kept stating i was done but always seem to have found one more thing that need to be done to complete the program. Finally after 5 months i just got my discharge letter in March 2024

Mr. Harris stepped up to the plate and won our case by working with the truth. His excellent discernment and striving with high efficacy to focus on the real issues pointed us into the right direction to work with him. The result was bringing someone flying under the radar get exposed to the extent the law will not allow him to continue. It has brought our peace and mental health back to normal levels, being happy, before the problem started. Well worth the money to say the least. Chris Harris will make this happen!

I would rate him zero (0) stars if I could. I previously wrote a review, but he obviously had it removed. He is a scammer who threatens to drop your case if you don't pay him more money. He is ill-prepared and acts as though he has ADHD. He also introduced me to a "CPA" who worked in his office who NEVER prepared my taxes, and was wanted by the GBI for fraud. Tom Tierney is nothing more than a snake oil salesman. DO NOT HIRE HIM!

Tom and his team are awesome. I contacted Tom during my divorce which arguably is a difficult time for anyone. Tom and his staff were patient, relatable, understanding, and dedicated. I immediately got a sense that my situation was not as daunting as I’d initially thought and that I had a passionate and pugilistic advocate that could work with me. Frankly, Tom and his team did such a great job that I plan to use them for all of my future divorces! Thanks again Y’all! Be in touch soon!

I just received a “failure to appear” notice in the mail. Mr clone was retained on my behalf by my open road drivers plan which is an insurance I carry to protect my cdl as my license is my livelihood. Two weeks ago o began calling me clone to make sure he was going to the court date to negotiate something better than my speeding violation. A year ago my insurance plan gave me this same inept moron to represent my wife and he didn’t show up for her either. This time however I was assured he had my court date reset and would contact me with the new info. I have since been unable to contact him and now have the pleasure of trying to explain to a judge why I decided to not show up for my originally appointed court date while simultaneously asking for mercy on my charge. I can’t believe after reading his reviews he even has a license to practice law in the state of Georgia and I’ll begin the legal process of filing that complaint when I’m done with this review. You would be better off taking the one chip challenge then using sandpaper for TP than you would be by hiring this complete waste of space that disguises himself as an attorney.

Brandon Cline took our money to represent my brother for a bail hearing. He stopped answering the phone and emails and refused to meet with me my sister or our brother whom he was paid to represent. We attempted to meet and speak with him for 2 months and he always had an excuse IF he answered a call. He never called my brother and then didn’t show up to the bail hearing resulting in no bail because of no representation. We know he was avoiding our calls because if we called from a different number he would answer. Do not give this man any money to play with your life.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
