Ken Ray is hands-down, the best attorney you can hire in Yavapai county and the state of Arizona. If you are facing any sort of criminal case or cases, he is the man that you need to hire. I can personally vouch for that, from first hand experience.I was falsely accused of three felonies and Ken easily got my case dismissed without prejudice. Don’t even think twice if you are in trouble and need to hire an attorney, I promise you , that you will not regret hiring Ken, he is just that good hands down!

I cannot tell you enough on how awesome this lawyer is. Badass, understanding the fight for you. That's all you should want when you read all these reviews. When you are trying to decide on who to retain He took a class three felony and probation when I hit the door. Ken's way is beyond great. He takes the case and facts and let's the state see it. $$$ worth it for a guy that fights for you.

It is rare to find a lawyer with even one good review written on them on the internet, yet alone several. To have several and have them all 5 star is unheard of. It is the reason we met with her, hired her, and we have yet to be disapointed. Virgina has earned them all! She took on a VERY complex and difficult case with issues going back over 2 years. The case is still ongoing but could not be more pleased with the results so far. She really knows her stuff and goes at it with diligence. We have had 2 lawyers previously who left more than a bad taste with their extremely costly errors, lack of knowledge and plain failure to show up! Virginia has renewed our faith that there really are lawyers out there that you can trust to do the job you would expect them too. You will NOT be diappointed in her representation of you!

Virginia is the kind of attorney that will get things done in timely and respectful manners. She tells a client why she takes a certain approach and keeps clients up to date with changes and info. She is a fantastic attorney as far as knowing her way around the law and facts and combining that knowledge with tact. She was a word of mouth local area referral that turned out to be a true blessing and affordable. A client definitely gets their monies worth. Virgina does her home work to stay sharp in the practice of law. I was very impressed that she will listen to her clients fully and if you are honest with her she will be honest and work best for you. I appreciated her vigor in the court room being the aggressive attorney I needed for my case. Virginia is more than competent and I'm thankful to have found her. I highly recommend her.

I had a complicated DUI in az (BAC .34) about a year ago. Blake was quick, honest, professional, intelligent and outside of the box to get the best possible outcome. I’m a Nv resident so alternative sentencing options were non existent for me. We accepted a plea (2 BACS lower) and at sentencing got out of the mandatory minimum + credit for the booking time. I was facing 10 days mandatory minimum and so stressed about it. He was worth every penny!!! Highly recommend.

We hired Mr. Whitmer to represent a family member in a criminal case. While many attorneys demand a hefty fee upfront, Henry met with our family member for a minimal fee to explain to them what their options were. Henry was professional and provided timely responses to all of our questions. He walked us through everything step-by-step. In addition, he was kind and always asked how we were all doing. He worked hard to try and get the very best outcome for our family member and we are very grateful for that. Henry was basically an answer to a prayer during a very difficult time. If you are ever in need of a good defense attorney, we highly recommend him!

Mr. Witmer went above and beyond in helping my son win his court case. My son and I are grateful to Attorney Whitmer for everything he did for us and always kept in contact with us throughout the legal process. Attorney Whitmer pulled no punches and never promised anything to us except his diligent and earnest work on the case and he is a man of his word. He is honest and trustworthy and should we ever have legal issues in the future, Attorney Whitmer will be our go-to attorney. As a caveat, he would make an excellent judge for this county. Thank you Walt and Parker

I hired Henry for my boyfriend's case of false allegations. Henry is an incredible attorney. One that respects and understands the law, understands the systems at play, and did his research on the case. He was a master attorney in the court room and my boyfriend was acquitted. He is honest, conscientious, and took the time to explain what was going on and what was needed. I highly recommned Henry-he is a top notch attorney and person.

I had a long-standing legal issue with my drivers license. I spoke to an advocate at the VA Hospital who advised me to talk to a lawyer and recommended Glen S. Hammond. He took my case, he won and I was granted a set aside on the conviction and a certificate of 2nd chance. I can finally get my license back. I definitely recommend Mr. Hammond!

I live in another state, and i was helping a friend retain council for a potentially bad situation. I called the office on a Sunday and the legal assistant Diane, called me back first thing Monday morning. She was so professional and helpful. She put my friend on immediately with Mr. Daniels. He was able to help him very quickly, and my friend had the best case scenario happen. He got the charges dropped!!! Thank you and your whole office for helping.

I had Andrew as a P.D. (public defender) this past few months of 2012. I was very impressed with the way Mr. Falick handled my case considering I had a lot of felony charges against me. Andrew worked tirelessly on my case, keeping me informed on everything and above all, he was there for me. He saw me as a 20 year old kid with a bright future ahead. Also, Andrew took to the fact that I have a very supportive family and a basketball scholarship awaiting me this august. Andrew Falick is an excellent attorney I would recommend this attorney to anybody looking for a great public defender. Thanks for reading my review, I hope it gave some insight to people looking for an attorney and i know this is just my opinion but i hope it will help someone else that has an uphill battle in the court system. Thank You Andrew

I received a DUI in Prescott, AZ. Completely my fault. I was scared to death of going to jail. I was willing to get whatever I deserved so I was looking for an honest lawyer that wasn't squirley or looking for a loophole. I contacted several lawyers and they all told me how I could pay thousands of dollars and find a way out of it. I knew not only was that BS but also not morally OK in my book (nether is DUI, I know). Either way I found Jon and he was very laid back and gave it to me straight. Because he is such an honest guy he has a relationship with the Prosecuting attorney for the courts and is able to communicate with them ahead of time. This is great because you at least have a clue what your going into when you step into the court room. My DUI was not aggravated and I cooperated which helped out, but he also didn't charge me thousands of dollars and represented me professionally and accurately. He wasn't super aggressive and didn't need to be with my case, but in the end I got the MINIMUM I could have and it worked out perfectly. I respect Jon tremendously and have already recommended someone who went to him and said he was great also. Even if you just need legal advice go to Jon. He is one of the best.

Mr. Dagilis stepped in after another unscrupulous attorney cost my friends a LOT of money. He was on their side and did the best he could for them. He got them away from a crooked fiduciary and got them back home after being in assisted living (at a cost of over $5000/month). He has been wonderful!! I would recommend him highly!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
