It was an amazing experience having David help me with my traffic case. He was short, succinct but provided great advice on the next steps during our initial consultation. This was a stark contrast to the other attorneys I spoke with, who did not want to take the time to understand my case. I had used online traffic lawyers prior to engaging David but David's experience and expertise in the area was unmatched. It was clear from the start that David had an in depth understanding of how the courts functioned and how to tailor the resolution to my case. On his advice, I received one of the best possible outcomes for my case - being able to take traffic school instead of a suspension.

Mr. Nazzaro is a very rare and good person. As a lawyer, his professionalism and experience are of course paramount and valuable. There is no doubt about this. What I especially recommend is: He is a good person. Maybe you will laugh at me. What is a good person? He has a kind, big and clean heart. First of all, he makes his clients trust him 100% and trust the law, rather than fear and conceal self or something. He took the trouble to explain every detail, be patient all the time, and give 100% trust and support to his clients . You will feel that a best friend stands with you to get through the difficulties time. He won't tell you very high-end and obscure professional vocabulary, and all you hear is "It doesn't matter, don't worry..."I believe that a good lawyer, not just helping his clients' cases, he is using his personality charm to help his clients reshape themselves and be a good person. Thanks Mr. Nazzaro.

From my first phone call to GFF&F, all the way to reaching the settlement of my case, every individual in this firm has been professional, patient, kind, knowledgeable, and informative. This was my first ever (and hopefully last) claim against another party’s insurance company, due to an accident. Dealing with a physical injury and incapacitation was very overwhelming, and it would have been impossible for me to deal with the other party’s insurance company on my own. GFF&F gently guided me through this, and had me take important steps to get the care and information that I needed in support of my case. GFF&F won my case and obtained a fair settlement on my behalf. I highly recommend this firm to family, friends, and anyone in need.

I came to work with Chantel and Justine at GFF&F after I was hit by a vehicle while walking my dog. My dog perished on scene and I was devastated afterwards. While I was healing from 4 broken bones I decided I could not deal with insurance companies and my grief at the same time. I am so glad I found GFF&F - Chantel and her team were so compassionate and understanding. They helped me understand what I needed to do and helped me resolve the case in record time. I recommend them very highly.

Lana’s advice solved many outstanding issues with my relative’s criminal case. Most experts give advice that is very general and not applicable in real life legal situations. Lana’s information allowed me to make decisions that maximized my relative’s chances of success. I’ve found that our legal system is fickle in nature, advice and strategy must revolve around probabilities of success. Lana’s guidance allowed me to execute a series of steps to achieve the best possible outcome. Without Lana, I may have made the wrong decision in my quest to help my relative. My dialogue with her proved to be priceless.

He was referred to me by one of my closest friends, who is also a lawyer, and recommended Andres for his expertise in this area. He was awesome. Completely knowledgeable and confident, he walked us through every step of the process and has been a tremendous source of information. He is trustworthy, responsive and has my highest recommendation.

I'm a bay area real estate broker/agent. I've referred Carmen to a few of my clients. All of which would tell me she would never return their calls or they could never connect with her. Should have learned then but instead I decided I should give her a try myself for my estate planning documents especially since we had done some events together. Never did I think my estate planning documents would take over a year to complete. I signed our engagement letter 6/3/22, the first payment link was sent to me on 6/4/22 (quick turnaround). I had an in-person meeting with her on 7/28/22 after rescheduling on my end a few times due to personal reasons. Soon after I provided all of my documents to her and we scheduled a follow up meeting for 9/22/22. I didn’t hear anything back from her until 11/14/22, with another payment link for another service she provided. At that moment I inquired about finalizing my trust documents, her office told me they were going to mail them to me the following week. One month goes by and I inquire again on 12/6/22. She claims she is onboarding new team members and has been understaffed. On 12/20/22 I ask her if she was able to find an attorney out of state to put my properties in the trust. She claimed she did and that she would have the deeds ready the following week. January came and went and zero communication from her or her office. I inquired again on 2/3/23 - following up on the mobile notary to sign & finalize trust documents. Another person in her office responds back and I finally get a mobile notary scheduled for 2/9/23. I assumed this was it and I was just waiting around for my executed county stamped documents to get mailed back to me. Well June comes around and I still haven’t received anything back. I inquire again on 6/6/23. She says she is checking with her assistant. No communication again until I inquire again on 6/27/23. One property was finally taken care of and confirmed received by the county on 7/11/23. The other property was finally taken care of in late Sept 2023. My frustration is the lack of customer service/communication. I understand small businesses tend to get understaffed or are going through business changes but if my services are paid for and I have to constantly be contacting you for an update and most of the time you don’t respond, then there is something wrong! This tells me this business doesn’t value its clients. Posting this review now in case this will help others determine whether to use her services or not. I also know other small businesses that have used her & have had a similar or worser experience so that tells me I’m not the only one.

To start, disregard Google reviews you see for this attorney. I trusted them and now major regret doing so. Further, all of the following information pertains to my case which was a first time DUI, on a golf cart, outside of a nearby campground. No accidents and no injuries, was stopped for not having a seatbelt. Charles initially (during the consultation) was very responsive and seemed to be in the inner circle in Tuolumne County (the County I was charged in). He spoke about knowing the judges, but stating that the County was stuck in the stone ages. He still displayed confidence in regard to my case and his ability to help me out. I agreed to hire him, signed the retainer, and as soon as I sent my first payment, the communication all but stopped! He initially stated that he preferred to communicate via text, which I was more than happy to do. However, he would almost never respond to my texts. I inquired about court dates, DMV hearing, general questions about my case, etc. and he simply just did not respond. I would then call him and finally get him on the phone just for him to be frustrated with me and tell me that he has been busy in trials. He would never give a straight and honest answer about my case, but instead just say that he has it handled. My frustration first started when I received a warrant for my arrest in the mail for missing a court date. When I contacted Charles, obviously in a panic, he said that my case was not yet filed so he did not appear at the scheduled arraignment, and that the warrant was issued in error. He went to Court the following week to clear it up. At this point in time, I was accepting of the mishap and Charles' fix to the situation. Next came the motion to suppress evidence hearing, which Charles displayed high hopes for. Said he was friends with the judge and that we had about a 70% chance of success. This was a let down once the time came and the judge rejected the motion. I did not feel Charles did a good job at the hearing, as he spent most of the time belittling the officer instead of focusing on the facts. However, I am not an attorney, and maybe that is what works for him? Next frustration was the DMV hearing. After about 9 months of pushing off my hearing (done strategically), he missed my scheduled hearing!! My drivers license was then suspended, throwing our whole strategic timeline off. I initially couldn't get ahold of him to find out what was going on, so I reached out to DMV. They told me that he missed the hearing and they could not reach him after multiple attempts so they had not choice but to suspend my license. When I finally did get ahold of Charles, he said he let them know he wouldn't be able to make the hearing on the day before it was scheduled, due to trial, but I firmly this is a lie he told to appease me. He did refund a portion of my retainer for missing the hearing though. At this point I was done and asked him to get me the best plea deal. I do not believe he spoke privately to the DA once during this whole process in an attempt to get a plea deal. He simply just told me that they don't offer plea deals in that County. I have a really hard time believing this. He went to Court, with my plea papers in hand, and called me after the hearing to let me know I could either do 2 days in jail, 30 days house arrest, or 10 days sheriff work program. I would also have to pay $2142 and be on probation for 3 years. I was shocked he couldn't get me anything better than that, but opted to do the 10 days sheriff work program. When we finally went to sentencing, he was over 40 minutes late!!! He also showed up in the courtroom flustered and in a hurry. It was obvious to me at that point how the Judge and court in general view Charles in Tuolumne County. To anyone reading this, please go another route when it comes to hiring an attorney in Tuolumne County. Most of my stress about this whole ordeal was associated with Charles instead of the criminal case.

Richard is exceptional — a fast worker, a stickler for detail, a legal nerd like no other and supremely practical. I was stuck in a protracted divorce proceeding in which my ex (from a short lived marriage) was insisting on going to trial. Richard talked her and her lawyer off the cliff. In a heroic twist of events, he got them to agree to a reasonable settlement. Acting against his own financial incentives, he saved me tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Divorce is a very emotional, expensive journey. You want a strategic thinker who can reduce the pain of it all. That’s Richard. Hire him. You chose the wrong partner. Now choose the right lawyer.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
