I am profoundly grateful to Katya and her team at Stelmakh & Associates for their outstanding support and professionalism in assisting me with my EB1A petition. The team demonstrated strategic and proactive approaches, providing invaluable guidance throughout the process. They took time to always respond to my queries and valued my input at the same time. My EB1A petition was approved in just six business days! I am now moving towards achieving my long-term goals. If you are looking for a professional, approachable, and dedicated team committed to your success, I highly recommend Stelmakh & Associates.

Katya and her team were absolutely fantastic to work with on my husband’s immigration petition. After discussing the EB1A process with colleagues, he consulted multiple lawyers, and Katya stood out as the most logical and practical choice. She was incredibly thorough in identifying and emphasizing the strongest aspects of his profile, including his achievements in the tech industry and his time at MIT. Maddalena, was also extremely helpful throughout the process, ensuring everything was well-organized and on track. The EB1A process requires significant effort and patience, but Katya’s meticulous attention to detail and strategic guidance made all the difference. We’re truly grateful for the hard work and support of Katya, Maddalena, and the entire team, and I highly recommend Stelmakh & Associates to anyone pursuing the EB1A route with a strong case.

Christian was a pleasure to work with! It was the first time I've had to work with a lawyer and he helped walk me through all the steps for our company to get a lien filed and all subsequent work thereafter to get the matter resolved. He was always available by phone, replied back via email promptly and was very knowledgeable. He helped us file the lien and work with their lawyers to come up with a settlement. If we run into any future issues, we'd love to work with him again. Highly recommend Christian and his team!

Amsale Aberra law PLLC is one of the best law firm in Seattle . In 2019 I had a very tough immigration case and I hired another law firm and it didn’t go well, I spend more than 3k and finally my case got denied due to the lawyer’s irresponsible action. A few months later a friends of mine suggested to contact Amsale’s law firm. She was very kind, positive , thoughtful and a good listener. She listened the entire issue with the previous law firm, and what surprised me was her focus to resolve the problem instead of nailing down. After a brief discussion and consultation, I hired her to represent me the same case which I got denied previously. It took her shorter time comparing with the previous lawyer and successfully won my case. Not only that, through the entire process of my case with Amsale I was getting an update based on the information timeframe of each steps from immigration office. The best part of her consultation, if she thinks your case doesn’t worse to continue, she doesn’t wanna waste your money! This is how she does business ! I will always refer to Amsale law firm for friend and family because she is trustworthy!

I originally hired Sean because a plumbing company had caused structural damages to floor joists during a renovation and they would not accept responsibility. What happened instead was Sean transferred me to Joe and the lawsuit lasted 2 1/2 years. We ended up going to arbitration and I won all damages but zero lawyers fees. Incredibly frustrating experience. I wouldn’t hire nor recommend them. I regret hiring Sean and Joe.

I was at a loss when I was served papers by a debt buyer claiming I had opened a credit account and wasn't paying on it. I felt extremely embarrassed and taken advantage of as this claim was severely affecting my credit. Finding Patrick was the best thing I could have done for myself. He took the time to listen to everything I said, asked questions without judgement, and created a case for me against this debt buyer that I was deathly afraid I didn't have a chance at winning. Not only did he get the case dismissed but I was awarded attorney's fees, something I really didn't believe we had a chance with and is what I believe to be quite rare. More important then the money, this fixed my credit score. I would absolutely work with Patrick again and solidly recommend him.

Hello Patrick, My wife and I wanted to tell you how much we appreciate the work you've done, and even more so in how genuine and transparent you have been throughout the process. At the beginning my wife was pretty freaked out about being whacked with a six thousand-plus dollar bill in the event we had no defense, but conversely freaked out about what would happen if we elected to seek representation...we've never done that before and I think we both always thought that was something only rich people could do. So we kind of felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. I am certain that she took what she felt was a huge risk in trusting me to determine whether or not to, and if so who, we should hire for representation, and we are really happy with who we picked to do it. So in a nutshell, we really appreciate you also caring about our side of this when its all said and done. Just wanted to share that with you.

Mr. Maxwell provided advice on how to enter an arbitration award as a court judgment. He is a good communicator and helped me understand the process, the costs, and the tradeoffs. I was especially impressed with Mr. Maxwell's interest in getting the best result for *me*. When he perceived an opportunity for me to save time and money, he recommended it--even though it meant me working with a different attorney. Mr. Maxwell could have elected to not mention the alternative and done the work--and earned the fees--himself, but he was looking out for my best interest, which speaks highly of his character. If you have a problem with resolving contract and lease disputes, enforcement of judgments, or collections, Mr. Maxwell can help.

Mr. Maxwell got my money and interest back after a contract was breached. He made sure I was made whole and did so in very little time and with a minimal of fuss, pomp and circumstances. Being involved in litigation is gut wrenching enough, having an attorney who guides you through the maze quickly, efficently and successfully is the way to go. Maxwell is such an attorney - I highly recommend him.

Chris has effectively handled a variety of business matters for me. Most recently, he successfully negotiated a residential eviction in Seattle. This was by no means a simple matter because of eviction moratorium restrictions, winter eviction restrictions, conflicting laws, and other barriers. The process went much more smoothly than anticipated. Further, his fees are extremely reasonable. He also doesn't hesitate to refer when outside his areas of expertise. He will expend considerable effort to find a quality referral. You will be pleased with his work.

Christopher worked with me on a business contract breach where the customer owed my company significant money. Engaging in legal action was daunting as my company is a small boutique size firm, up against a large public company. Litigation costs for them would have been a drop in the bucket, but for my company, it would have been monumental. I brought the case because the contract was clear on the terms and conditions. What gave me confidence and conviction was Christopher Reed's experience and capabilities as an attorney. He is highly recommended for the following reasons: -Out of the gate, professional and interested in my case. -He listened and has the business savvy to connect the dots of the issue quickly. He made sure he communicated the issue back so we were in sync. He let me know what type of data he needed in support of my position, and we tackled more evidence as the issue was pulled into different directions. I felt it was an efficient and organized process—money well spent. -Professional and timely in all of his communications, even to let me know, there's a delay from the opposing counsel. I was never left on hold wondering what the next action item was or who owned it. When they were stonewalling, he showed appropriate assertiveness to get them to want to engage but always unwavering in his ethics. Christopher had my full confidence. -He was strategic with me in discussing the negotiation, and had great execution in presenting our position and arguments to opposing counsel. He answered my questions swiftly and helped me understand their arguments and how we could overcome their position. -Christopher has excellent intuition, interpersonal, legal and negotiating skills. If x language in the agreement didn't work for the opposing side, he had another workaround to achieve our goal in the language. His writing skills are impressive. -I believe his ability to be firm yet fair, and knowledgeable of my contract and the law, was vital in achieving not only their attention and engagement, but a 90% payment on the total due! (Yeah!) He far exceeded my initial expectation which was to be largely ignored by this public company. I fully expected they’d draw it out so I incurred significant legal expenses and gave up. I was going to be content with half of the total amount they owed. I highly recommend Christopher Reed. He’s an excellent attorney. He loves the legal field, problem solving, writing, negotiating and helping me navigate the laws without getting too deep into the weeds. He doesn't waste your time, he presents options and pros/cons. He tells you the honest facts. He’ll fight for you. He guided and taught me so I was understanding both the process, our strategy and application of the law. I have to believe the East Coast big city opposing attorney was (secretly) equally impressed with Christopher. The arguments he presented gave the opposing counsel strong data to take back to his customer that compelled them to settle substantially higher than the puny settlement they originally proposed. I not only highly recommend Christopher but will use him again in the future to create business contracts, and also if a situation/issue arises where I need legal counsel.

A fair settlement with the previous contractor seemed very hard for me as English is my second language. But I was lucky to have support from Christopher. For the whole process, he focused on how I “ Feel” and what I “Expect”. Language didn’t become a barrier because we were sharing the exact same goal. Thanks to Christopher effort, we had a fair deal in such a short term. I highly recommend him!

I’ve referred a number of people to the Marshall Defense Firm over the years and, without exception, their feedback concerning the firm’s service has been exceptional. The terms I hear consistently are expert, professional, intelligent, sensitive and caring. Honestly, it’s a combination of traits which I see rarely see in law firms I deal with. What a huge compliment to the firm’s legal and life philosophy.

My case was complicated due to many missteps I took in a real estate/renter arrangement and I was threatened with a forced sale in a lawsuit filed by the tenant. When Fred received the inch thick packet from the tenant’s attorney he said in his calm understated way, and I paraphrase, in my years as an attorney I have never seen anything quite like this. He carefully read the five years worth of emails, asked many questions, and ultimately created a clear picture of what had taken place in this exchange. He identified the strengths of our argument and presented them to the tenant’s attorney precisely and forcefully, without confrontation or aggression. I was particularly impressed by his kindness and intelligence throughout the negotiations. Fred kept me informed and responded to any questions or concerns within hours of my inquiry. He listened and respected my point of view. While not offering false hope, Fred encouraged me to allow him to assume the anxiety so I could carry on with my normal daily living. We discussed settlement options to which the other side ultimately agreed and I was able to keep my house---I am exceptionally happy with Fred’s expertise and much relieved by the outcome. I strongly recommend him.

I had an unusual and very messy situation that several attorneys had declined to consider. Fred took the time to do an initial review of the situation and documents, then, meet in-person for further clarification and detail. Fred was patient and worked through all of the details during this meeting. He very clearly presented the obstacles I faced, and then offered an insightful, thoughtful, and a thinking-outside-of-box, strategy. He genuinely cared about getting the best outcome for my situation. Fred made a great first & lasting impression. I believe anyone would be happy with the counsel Fred provides.

I've had the pleasure of working with Fred Finkelstein for 6 years now. Over the course of those years, we have handled cases ranging from bond and lien filings, confessions of judgment, and collection on judgments. Fred is professional, thorough, and takes initiative with his cases. The current case we are working on involves negotiating with the debtor, bond company, and a government entity. Fred works swiftly to get all parties in the loop, while protecting my company's interests and collecting funds. He is an asset to my company and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

I worked with Will Reingold, Jr for my divorce, who was recommended to me by a friend. He was friendly and knowledgeable for a process that is painful for most. The guy always works and never seems to miss a beat. He is always on top of it and prioritizes to get things done/executed like you're his only client. He made efforts to resolve more complicated challenges like parental rights of embryos even though it's not his wheelhouse.

Attorney Max Soi and the Legal Team at Integrity Law Group provided outstanding legal services for a recent Eviction Action. Attorney Soi has an extensive background in Landlord Tenant disputes in King County. Through the expertise provided by Attorney Soi and his firm we were successful in the resolution of our tenant eviction. The eviction process is confusing and difficult to navigate and can be extremely costly without an attorney knowledgeable about the law and required processes and procedures. Do not go it alone - we are extremely appreciative of Attorney Max Soi and Integrity Law Group and highly recommend their services.

Working with them solved my issues and empowered me with strategies to advocate for myself! I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for legal representation.

I was referred to Katrina by a friend who also hired her for a tenant eviction. She is extremely knowledgeable in this area. She helped me immensely with my first ever eviction, and as a result of her work we were able to file a final judgment of eviction without a lot of extra time, money and hassle. I highly recommend her to any landlord in need of advice or eviction services.

I hired Katrina to handle an eviction case. Her flat rate was very reasonable. I especially liked that she was available for an initial consultation in her Pioneer Square office. As a part-time landlord (like many homeowners renting instead of selling in this market), I was new to the eviction process. She patiently answered my questions. I also liked how she handled herself in court - very professional and respectful of the judge. Not surprisingly, we got the ruling we wanted. My only issue was that the whole process took longer than expected for a couple of reasons. One was that the person who served my tenant the documents had difficulty finding the house initially since the tenant had scratched the house numbers off of the mailbox. Also, using the correct forms and following the procedure precisely was critical. Lesson learned, if I ever had to do this again (knock on wood), I would hire Katrina at the first sign of non-payment. And I would keep an eye on the mailbox.

Credit to the LvBC team - Seth and Karl are outstanding! I hired them to assist with a residential real estate case. I performed an initial consultation with several other firms, but Seth and LvBC clearly stood out even at early stages. Throughout the entire process they were consistently responsive, informative, and realistic/honest with me. I truly felt like I had expert guidance at every step, and that they took their duty of looking out for my best interest seriously. LvBC got a tough case - it was a complex situation, the case lasted longer than expected, and there were multiple teams of opposing counsel to contend with. Seth and Karl are the real deal though - and they helped secure a favorable outcome for me. I have seen them work, and they are the folks that you want on your team. While I hope to not be in a similar situation again, without a doubt LvBC would be my first choice should the need arise. I'm happy to recommend them to anyone else who should also require similar assistance. Thanks again to the LvBC team - wishing you all well!

What a Debt Collection Lawyer Can Do for You

A debt collection lawyer helps individuals and businesses navigate legal matters related to debt collection. Whether you’re a creditor seeking to recover unpaid debts or a debtor facing aggressive collection actions, a debt collection lawyer can provide valuable assistance. These lawyers help creditors pursue legal action to collect overdue debts and ensure compliance with debt collection laws. On the debtor’s side, they help defend against unlawful collection practices, negotiate repayment plans, or file for bankruptcy if necessary.

If you’re dealing with a debt collection issue, a lawyer can ensure your rights are protected and work toward a resolution that aligns with your financial or business needs.

When Should I Hire a Debt Collection Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a debt collection lawyer if you are facing any of the following situations:

  • For Creditors:
    • Unpaid debts: If you’re a creditor (such as a business or individual) with unpaid invoices, loans, or accounts receivable, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action to recover the debt.
    • Debtor refuses to pay: When a debtor is unwilling or unable to make payments, a lawyer can assist with filing lawsuits, securing judgments, and enforcing those judgments to collect the debt.
    • Negotiating repayment plans: If you’re willing to work with a debtor to arrange a payment plan, a lawyer can negotiate and draft a legally enforceable agreement.
    • Legal representation in court: If a debtor disputes the debt or countersues, a lawyer can represent you in court and ensure your legal interests are protected.
    • Securing liens or garnishments: A lawyer can help you secure liens on a debtor’s property or garnishments on their wages to recover the owed debt.
  • For Debtors:
    • Facing debt collection lawsuits: If you’ve been sued by a creditor or collection agency, a lawyer can represent you in court and help you defend against the claim or negotiate a settlement.
    • Debt collection harassment: If creditors or debt collection agencies are harassing you or violating your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), a lawyer can help stop the harassment and potentially sue for damages.
    • Negotiating debt settlements: If you owe a significant amount of money but want to avoid bankruptcy, a lawyer can negotiate with creditors to reduce the total amount owed or set up a payment plan.
    • Disputing a debt: If you believe a debt is incorrect or have been wrongfully targeted by debt collectors, a lawyer can help you dispute the claim and provide evidence to resolve the matter.
    • Bankruptcy options: If your debts are overwhelming and you’re unable to repay them, a debt collection lawyer can help you explore bankruptcy as an option for debt relief.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you protect your financial interests and avoid escalating legal issues.

What Does a Debt Collection Lawyer Do?

A debt collection lawyer provides a variety of services depending on whether they are representing the creditor or the debtor. Their responsibilities often include:

  • For Creditors:
    • Filing lawsuits: A lawyer can file a lawsuit against a debtor who has failed to pay what they owe. This includes preparing and submitting legal documents, representing you in court, and pursuing judgments.
    • Negotiating settlements: If the debtor is willing to settle, the lawyer can negotiate a payment arrangement or reduced settlement that ensures you recover some or all of the debt.
    • Securing judgments and enforcement: After obtaining a court judgment, a lawyer can help enforce it through methods like wage garnishment, bank levies, or property liens.
    • Reviewing contracts and agreements: A lawyer can review your contracts and lending agreements to ensure that they comply with the law and are enforceable if a debtor defaults.
  • For Debtors:
    • Defending against debt collection lawsuits: If you’re being sued by a creditor, a lawyer can challenge the lawsuit, dispute the debt’s validity, or negotiate a more favorable settlement.
    • Stopping harassment: If debt collectors are using unlawful practices to collect a debt (such as threatening you or contacting you excessively), a lawyer can intervene and protect your rights.
    • Negotiating debt relief: A lawyer can negotiate with creditors to reduce the total amount of debt you owe or develop a manageable payment plan that suits your financial situation.
    • Disputing inaccurate debts: If a debt is not valid, a lawyer can help you gather evidence to dispute the claim and prevent further collection actions.
    • Filing for bankruptcy: If your debts are overwhelming, a lawyer can advise you on whether filing for bankruptcy is the best option and help you through the process.

How Are Debt Collection Lawyers Paid?

Debt collection lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways depending on the complexity of the case and whether they represent a creditor or debtor. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many debt collection lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity. Hourly fees are common when the lawyer is representing either party in litigation or negotiation.
  • Contingency fee: For creditors, some lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover the debt. Their fee is typically a percentage of the recovered amount, usually ranging from 20% to 40%.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a contract, drafting a demand letter, or defending a straightforward debt collection lawsuit, a lawyer may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For larger or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer fee ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected duration.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation and understand the total cost of their services before proceeding with your case.

How Much Does a Debt Collection Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a debt collection lawyer depends on whether you are a creditor or debtor, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Most debt collection lawyers charge between $150 and $500 per hour. Complex cases involving litigation or large amounts of money may result in higher legal fees.
  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, they typically charge between 20% and 40% of the recovered amount. For example, if you recover $10,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer would take $3,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler services like drafting a demand letter or responding to a debt collection lawsuit, flat fees may range from $500 to $2,500, depending on the work required.
  • Retainers: For larger or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer fee ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected duration.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to avoid surprises and ensure that the services fit your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Debt Collection Lawyer

Before hiring a debt collection lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with debt collection cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether you’re a creditor or debtor.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, on a contingency fee basis, or a flat fee, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Debt collection cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last, from filing the claim to recovering the debt or resolving the dispute.
  5. What are my legal rights?
Ask the lawyer to explain your rights as a creditor or debtor, including protections under laws like the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Debt Collection Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable debt collection lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for debt collection experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in debt collection law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and ability to handle debt collection cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on debt collection matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in organizations like the National Creditors Bar Association (NCBA) or other relevant associations that focus on debt collection law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a debt collection lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • For Creditors:
    • List of outstanding debts: Bring a detailed list of the debts owed to you or your business, including invoices, contracts, or other supporting documentation.
    • Previous communication with the debtor: Provide copies of any emails, letters, or phone call logs showing attempts to collect the debt.
    • Contracts or agreements: Bring any contracts or agreements related to the debt, as they may be critical in proving your case.
    • Judgment information (if applicable): If you’ve already obtained a court judgment against the debtor, bring the judgment documents and any enforcement attempts.
  • For Debtors:
    • Debt collection letters or notices: Bring any correspondence from creditors or collection agencies, including demand letters and collection notices.
    • Payment records: Provide proof of any payments made toward the debt, including receipts, canceled checks, or bank statements.
    • Debt validation or dispute documentation: If you’ve disputed the debt or requested validation, bring copies of the dispute letters and the creditor’s response.
    • Legal summons or lawsuit documentation: If you’re facing a lawsuit, bring the court summons, complaint, and any legal documents related to the case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
