Amsale Aberra law PLLC is one of the best law firm in Seattle . In 2019 I had a very tough immigration case and I hired another law firm and it didn’t go well, I spend more than 3k and finally my case got denied due to the lawyer’s irresponsible action. A few months later a friends of mine suggested to contact Amsale’s law firm. She was very kind, positive , thoughtful and a good listener. She listened the entire issue with the previous law firm, and what surprised me was her focus to resolve the problem instead of nailing down. After a brief discussion and consultation, I hired her to represent me the same case which I got denied previously. It took her shorter time comparing with the previous lawyer and successfully won my case. Not only that, through the entire process of my case with Amsale I was getting an update based on the information timeframe of each steps from immigration office. The best part of her consultation, if she thinks your case doesn’t worse to continue, she doesn’t wanna waste your money! This is how she does business ! I will always refer to Amsale law firm for friend and family because she is trustworthy!

I was in a really bad hit and run car accident June 6, 2023. I took my time to review plenty of attorneys before I found Boohoff Law. The reviews I read about them were unbelievailable. So I decided to call them. The very next day Michelle Pieller reached out to me and started working for me right away. Within days they found all my medical services & facilities I needed right away. Not only they found them right away but everyone of them were within 5 miles or less away from where I lived. As a matter of fact my very 1st service was within walking distance but of course I drove because of the car accident I was just involved in. Then they even went a step further and made sure not only were they close but all the facilities provided top notch service. They continued to stay in touch with me throughout this whole terrible process to make sure I was alright. Anytime I called or needed them their response was always right away and made sure all my needs and concerns were not only answered but met as well. Their service was so "GREAT" it felt like they were family. If you want and need the best of the best attorney I would highly recommend "BOOHOFF LAW". If I could give them a 100 star review I would but Qthe rating chart only goes to a 5 star. You can not and will not go wrong with choosing Boohoff Law. I guarantee it. Boohoo Law is the best of the best when it come car injury attorneys. Thanks for everything Boohoff Law. "YOU'RE THE BEST" 😃😃😃

Jocelyn and Linsey were the key players in helping complete my case when I was rear-ended. I was recommended them through word of mouth and I would definitely recommend them to others as well - the process was kept clear and they communicated the process very well with me. Knowing nothing about law or the lawsuit process, I’m glad I reached out to them as they were able to work with me to get me the help I needed (Physical therapy, MRI scans, etc.) to get me back healthy like before the accident occurred and maximized the return we were able to get out of the case. Super grateful!

I recently consulted with Damien regarding a severance agreement I had already signed after being laid off by my employer. A section in the non-compete clause had been keeping me up at night—it made no sense, even after running it through numerous analyses. Damien returned my call quickly, and I was immediately impressed by his responsiveness and dedication. You can tell he works long, hard hours and is genuinely passionate about employee rights. He was generous with his time, actively listened to my concerns, and provided clear guidance to help me better understand the clause in question. Damien even pointed me toward additional resources to further unpack my concerns. What stood out the most was his thoughtful and reassuring approach—there was absolutely no "hard sell." I left our conversation feeling like he truly cares about his clients and the people seeking his advice. I highly recommend Damien for anyone needing clarity and support during such a stressful time.

I was going through a tough time in my life when everything looked like a lost cause. Then, my family found Defense Attorney: Chris Black. At our first meeting, Mr. Black gave me hope. With him on our side, we felt assured that our case would be handled swiftly and smoothly. He kept us updated and was always available to answer our calls and emails promptly. Mr. Black went above and beyond—efficient, courteous, and professional. I highly recommend Chris Black’s legal services to anyone in need. I hired Rick a couple years ago to navigate some issues with a (then) employer. When that was concluded, Rick said to let him know if I had any other questions, and so when something that was tangentially related to that issue came up recently (1+ years later) I reached out to Rick to see if he couldanswer a few questions. Rick made time within a week for a phone call and was able to quickly answer my questions. He is a solid, solid person who you can trust to care about your case, and you as an individual. I highly recommend him!

No narcissist, abuser, bully, intimidator, gas lighter, manipulator, or exploiter are too big for Kirk Davis! My case was complicated and multi-faceted. I had difficulty finding an attorney to take my case. I am eternally grateful Kirk Davis accepted the challenge. I assumed I would lose most of my award to all the medical fees I incurred. Kirk even negotiated those that I was not expecting! I highly recommend Kirk Davis as an attorney and a human. Thank you, Kirk. The legal world is a much better place with you in it.

I was so fortunate that Mary Ruth Mann took my case against my employer. I can’t begin to adequately express my gratitude to a woman who remained by my side during a very lengthy case. Engaging in a law suit against anyone is a big decision and a stressful undertaking. Finding the right attorney is crucial. I thank God every day that I found Mary Ruth. When she told me to put my fears aside and allow her to do the worrying for me, she truly lightened my load. Mary Ruth is a woman of integrity who is brilliant, unafraid, and exactly the person one needs in his/her corner when going up against any adversary. After getting to know her, I pity the individual who makes the mistake of underestimating her abilities. Frankly, she’s amazing, tireless, and tenacious. If I were to need legal counsel again, I would go directly to Mary Ruth. I’d be a fool not to. You are the best, Mary Ruth. What a ride it was. And thanks to you, we won.

If MRM has been practicing 35 years we were her among her early clients. She was amazing the and still is. I have not needed an attorney much since 1981 but when I have she is the best advisor. Never has forced a litigation on any. She did took my husband I through the end of a horrid family court matter that had taken on a life of its own even after remarriages . Former attorneys had settled nothing to the satisfaction of any party, including new husband or new wife. We did prevail on a permanent maintenance beyond remarriage of the recipient or payment of attorney fees by husband. She took it to appeals and won on both. She did not further damage the already fragile relationship between divorced parents of a fragile preteen in the process. Time passes we are grandparents, everyone is the exact same personality as they were in then. She worked hard for us in an area of law that is not her specialty but she has left her mark with these appeals and by assuring we newly weds had a chance at making a marriage and eventual family find peace. For that We are eternally grateful.

This company was retained to assist someone trying to steal my land. They clearly have a losing case. This firm has delayed every email and settlement offer presented to them. They takes weeks or months to respond to calls and emails if at all. It is clear they are doing this to delay the process to rack fees for their clients. Read all the horrible reviews about this firm online and how they treat their own clients and opposing counsel offering them more than generous settlements. We have 7 attorneys and have never experienced this kind of unprofessionalism. Even our property insirance company and the firm retained said this is the most unprofessional communication ever. All they have to do is agree to a settlement but they delay the process to rack of trial fees and do not communicate with clients or opposing counsel. Read all the horrible reviews before hiring these people.

I retained their services for help with business contracts, and business partner discussions. They were extremely prompt, thorough, and helped me succeed with positive outcomes. I first worked with Imants, then mostly with Phil Neale. Phil was very easy to get a hold of, and constantly updated me on progress. Every time I called in, he either answered the call right away, or called back very shortly afterwards. Highly recommend, and we will retain their services when needed again in the future!

I am very happy to share my excellent experience with Jesse Wing! From the moment I first reached out to him during a challenging time in my life, Jesse exhibited absolute professionalism and expertise. What truly made a difference was his genuine empathy for what I was going through. I particularly appreciated his frequent interactions, where he took the time to explain every detail of the process in a clear and reassuring manner. Yes, it actually feels good to have a worthy credit profile. I want to use this time to appreciate PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST for bringing me out of a bad credit report that made my life miserable. 6 years ago I had perfect credit but my life spiralled out of control and was left with 50k debt.  I had no way of paying for it at that time.  I have been rebuilding my life for the past few months and need to fix my credit. I had 50k debt combined.  6 closed accounts with "negative pay status" "Charged off as bad debt".  550 credit score. I paid 2 of the 6 accounts off recently but the remarks are still there and nothing about my status changed on said accounts. PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST came through for me, with all negative entries removed; charge offs, late payments wiped out including closed accounts all cleared from my report and my score is now 804. I got approved for a Capital one credit card with a $10,000 limit and have been pre-approved for another $30,000 limit. I’m happy now and THANKS to whoever posted about them on this forum for the first time. You can contact them via:

She kept me updated throughout the case and did her best to make everything as easy as possible. I’m the end the matter was resolved much quicker than I expected and I also got a far better outcome than I could have ever expected. 20 Nov, 2023 by Linda
I met with Elizabeth in November 2019. I had been recently let go from my dental job shortly after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. I had worked in the dental field for 35 years and was 61 years old. I had received an email from my former employers letting me know that I was no longer employed at their dental practice. You can only imagine the panic I felt not to mention the deep betrayal from a group of doctors that I thought were supporting me during my battle. In my consultation, I knew imediately that Elizabeth would be the attorney to represent me. Her professionalism was above and beyond what would be expected from an attorney of her caliber. However, it was her unwavering compassion and fierceness that let me know she would fight to the end to right the wrong that had been undeservedly done to me. Elizabeth put me at ease and let me know that under no circumstance was this appropriate behavior and totally unacceptable, that having a disability I had rights and they had disregarded these rights. There was absolutely no reason to warrant tossing me aside as if I didn't matter or assuming that I would not be able to continue doing my job to the fullest extent. Or the fact that I was a person who worked hard for them every day and took pride in my position. I represented their practice with integrity and made sure that my treatment of our patients and fellow team members was always with upmost respect. After all we are in healthcare and that's what we do, take care of our patients. They didn't even take into consideration that they fired me during breast cancer awareness month. Elizabeth stood by my side and empowered me to stand up and let my former employers know that I matter and no one deserves to be treated this way! So, together we walked through this battle to defend my personhood and send the message that you cant treat me this way. Due to Covid and multiple delays on their end this walk together went nearly 4 years. Elizabeth kept in contact with me at all times. She kept me updated when even the smallest of information came to her. Elizabeth checked in on me on a regular basis and wanted to know how I was doing and how my treatment was going. Making sure if I needed anything to help me during my fight. She expressed her concerns that I was taking care of myself and celebrated with me as I continued to beat this. Elizabeth always made sure that I knew she was there for me and if I needed anything she would help me in anyway she could. She encouraged me as I went through this journey and on many occasions she let me know how proud she was of me as I faced many challenges. My former employers were not willing to settle out of court because they felt they had done nothing wrong and the jury would side with them. So off to court we went. Another amazing attorney from SGB Joe Solseng joined forces along with an impressive support team. All I can say is they should have settled out of court. It was impressive beyond to have this legal team show them that you are not allowed to treat an employee this way. After a long 8 day trial, the jury deliberated for a mere 90 minutes. They awarded me handsomely, way beyond my wildest dreams. I was vindicated and the message was sent loud and clear. This was unacceptable and you simply can not treat your employees this way. If you are in need of legal representation, you will be hard pressed to find a better attorney along with an extremely impressive group of individuals, than Elizabeth Hanley and her legal team at SGB. Thank you Elizabeth, your dedication has meant the world to me. Linda

I hired Greg to advise me during a stormy severance negotiation with an employer. He provided direct feedback on the content of my communications, overall tone, and legal pitfalls to avoid. Additionally, his advice on tactics and pacing at each round were critical to my success. Throughout the whole process, he heard my needs clearly, gave direct, effective advice, and always kept me focused on the goal of a successful compromise. The final compensation was 50% more than I expected, but beyond that it really gave me back a sense of agency in the process. Highly recommended!

They put you through an inital intake process which is positive. I wanted a quick end to my divorce and was happy to compromise to make it happen. Our goals seemed to align. Unfortunately this firm provided poor council during the first phone call with the attorney. Luckily this did not lead to a financial move that would have put me in violation of a court order. Later the attorney wanted me to provide documentary evidence he had previously advised against in an aparent 180. Such documentation was previously claimed to put me in legal liability. What can I believe? Very disappointing. Divorce is tough enough. I hired an attorney becuase I am no legal expert and I wanted a quick, mediated end to my marriage. Instead I get bad and changing advice. Plenty of good reviews of these guys. Hope I'm an outlier.

Teller & Associates represented me in a civil case against a former employer in which I received a 6-figure settlement (even after paying Teller and taxes). These lawyers are "true believers" in civil rights and social justice. They have high integrity and truly care for their clients; I never noticed any hint of dishonesty, deception, or manipulation. They aren't in this just for the money; they want to help. Furthermore, Steve's facial structure was genetically engineered by extraterrestrial social justice warriors to persuade juries to believe just about anything, so your case would probably prevail in court. I recommend hiring Steve's firm.

Steve is a fantastic attorney. He is knowledgeable and will work long and hard for you. I was a little skeptical when he joined my complicated employment case in progress, but he was up to speed on the facts almost immediately, and he brought a fresh insight and new life to my case. He is enthusiastic, persistent, determined and will aggressively fight for you. Steve is also personable, caring, and compassionate and understands your emotional distress. He was easily accessible and kept me informed and up to date. After nearly two years, my case settled for almost 1 million dollars (which is rarely seen in Eastern Washington). I made the best decision when I chose Catherine Fleming of Fleming Law to represent me in my lawsuit against the city of Seattle. I had a bicycle crash on a poorly marked Seattle street which left me semi-paralyzed and permanently in a wheelchair. Catherine is a personal injury attorney but has a special interest in representing injured cyclists, pedestrians or vehicle drivers who sue municipalities for negligent road design. My case was a complicated one due to a preexisting condition, but Catherine had built a strong case, and the city did not want to risk going to trial. They proposed settling out of court, and during her skillful mediation, I was granted a 7-figure settlement, an amount which far exceeded my expectations and for which I am forever grateful to Catherine. This can only be attributed to her in-depth preparation, knowledge of the law, and prior experience with cases against the city of Seattle. I found Catherine because of another attorney’s high praise. He is a prominent Seattle attorney, and even though he specializes in bicycle accidents, he said he doesn’t like taking cases like mine, against the city of Seattle, as they were high risk and hard to win. He said there’s only one attorney that he knew of who has won these types of cases, and that’s Catherine Fleming. It was this referral by another highly reputable attorney and my initial conversation with Catherine that led me to retaining her for my case. She absolutely proved to be the right choice. Catherine is a hardworking perfectionist who skillfully builds a case with tenacity, thoroughness, and an unwavering commitment to fight for her clients. If you have been injured, either cycling, walking, or driving, and think it may be the result of poor signage or road design (or any other reason), consult with Catherine Fleming at Fleming Law. She is one of a few who has the expertise to take on these cases and has earned respect for her many wins. She has earned mine, and I am most grateful that this large settlement amount brings us a newfound financial freedom and peace of mind for whatever our future holds.

We are so glad we found Catherine Fleming and Fleming Law! After my wife’s bicycle crash in Seattle and subsequent spinal surgery, we faced an uncertain future. Before, she had been a strong cyclist and active hiker, but now was confined to a wheelchair with incomplete paraplegia. Not only did we experience the loss of the many activities we had once shared, we now faced looming medical expenses, and the possibility of needing long-term care in the future. We believed that the area where my wife crashed was confusing and dangerous for bicyclists, but were unsure if we had any hope of recovering anything for damages. Catherine agreed to take us on as clients and worked tirelessly to build our case against the city. She amassed evidence that the street design at the site of the accident was unsafe, and furthermore that the city had been aware of this fact. As the case progressed, it became clear that we had chosen the right attorney for the job. She demonstrated a thorough understanding of the issues and the law surrounding bicycles and traffic safety. It was also evident that she also commanded the respect of her counterparts in the City Attorney’s Office. After Catherine guided us through a successful mediation, we were delighted with the settlement. While no amount of money can replace my wife’s mobility, we now face the future with less anxiety. -- Bobby Ball

Lawyers are like doctors, truly. We all hope that we never need one; but if we do, we want, and need, the absolute best. In respect to the absolute best, I can say that I found that in Brendan. As a person of color (more specifically a black male), I unfortunately encountered extreme racial aggression and discrimination on my job. As you might imagine, that alone brought with it great stress. Then, add having to deal with the legalities and legal battles that come along with that. Those two things combined are enough to drive anyone crazy, and they nearly did me. What made my legal journey different was Brendan. I can say unequivocally that he is one of the fiercest, most compassionate, knowledgeable, and responsive legal advocates that I have ever encountered in life. Put simply, he does not play. Past that, the level of kindness and professionalism with which he treats his clients, and approaches his practice, is beyond reproach. If you are reading this now, that likely means that you are looking for good legal counsel. To those looking for “good”, I’d tell you to keep looking. Those looking for phenomenal, Brendan is definitely your guy. It takes me a lot to write a review, but this one was easy to write. I am incredibly thankful that Brendan is a fierce legal advocate for ALL people. If you give him a call, I can say with absolute certainty that you’ll be glad that you did.

I came to Brendan with a very troubling legal issue and he made me feel like he was on my side and explained the issues to me in a clear way I could understand. I always felt like my case was a priority to him, even though he had other clients he was working with at the time. He kept me updated throughout the entire process. In the end, the final outcome was even better than I had hoped! I highly recommend Brendan... he is a zealous advocate who fights for his clients no matter what the issue is.

I am honored to be able to provide a review of Attorney Mark Anderson. I work for the WA State Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Mark was our assigned counsel. The issue fell square within employment law, and I found Mark to be incredibly knowledgeable, flexible and adaptable, and he also behaved with high integrity and professionalism. I have 35 years working in government HR, and Mark was the best attorney I've worked with: assertive, yet reasonable.

Mark is just an amazing advocate and diligent attorney. My case was an employment labor dispute. Mark carefully separated the facts from story and developed the tightest argument. Marks ability to view all angles of opposing arguments provided an articulate case that we won. Also I greatly appreciated his coaching on how to stay focused when answering questions during cross examination. I was able to remain calm and strong. Thank you Mark for all your support!

Mark was great as my attorney. Prompt, together, knowledgeable and most importantly empathetic. The Courtroom can be very foreboding environment to to find yourself in and Mark made it a point to ease my apprehensions. My case was simple, just a "disorderly conduct" charge, but to me it was a complex mess to mire through and Mark made it smooth sailing. Would I retain again? Without question.

What a Discrimination Lawyer Can Do for You

A discrimination lawyer specializes in handling cases where individuals or groups face unfair treatment based on protected characteristics, such as race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. These lawyers assist clients in filing discrimination claims, representing them in legal proceedings, and ensuring that their rights under federal, state, and local laws are upheld. Discrimination cases may arise in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, or other settings.

Whether you’ve been discriminated against at work, denied housing, or treated unfairly in other areas of life, a discrimination lawyer can help you navigate the legal process and seek compensation or corrective action.

When Should I Hire a Discrimination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a discrimination lawyer in several situations where unfair treatment occurs based on protected characteristics. Common scenarios include:

  • Employment Discrimination:
    • Workplace discrimination: If you’ve been treated unfairly at work because of your race, gender, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or another protected status, a lawyer can help you file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or a similar state agency.
    • Wrongful termination: If you were fired due to discrimination or retaliation for reporting discriminatory behavior, a lawyer can assist with filing a lawsuit and seeking compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and other damages.
    • Failure to promote: If you’ve been denied a promotion or opportunities due to discriminatory practices, a lawyer can investigate the claim and represent you in legal actions against your employer.
    • Harassment: If you’ve experienced workplace harassment, such as sexual harassment or a hostile work environment based on your race, gender, or other characteristics, a lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.
  • Housing Discrimination:
    • Denial of housing: If you’ve been denied housing due to your race, disability, family status, or other protected factors, a lawyer can help you file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or sue the landlord or property manager for violating the Fair Housing Act.
    • Unfair rental practices: If a landlord or property manager treats you unfairly based on discriminatory factors (e.g., refusing reasonable accommodations for a disability), a lawyer can help you enforce your rights.
  • Education Discrimination:
    • Discrimination in schools: If you or your child has faced discrimination in an educational setting based on race, disability, gender, or religion, a lawyer can help you file complaints under laws like Title VI, Title IX, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Public Accommodations:
    • Denial of services: If a business or public service has discriminated against you based on race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics, a lawyer can assist you in filing a complaint or lawsuit under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other anti-discrimination laws.

Hiring a discrimination lawyer early can help protect your rights and ensure that your claim is filed within legal deadlines.

What Does a Discrimination Lawyer Do?

A discrimination lawyer provides a range of legal services to help individuals and groups fight against discriminatory practices. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing discrimination claims: A lawyer can help you file a complaint with government agencies, such as the EEOC, HUD, or your state’s human rights commission. They ensure that your claim is properly documented and filed within required time limits.
  • Investigating discrimination claims: Discrimination lawyers gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review documents to build a strong case for proving discriminatory practices.
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, a lawyer can negotiate a settlement with the employer, landlord, or other party involved in the discrimination case, seeking compensation or corrective action without going to trial.
  • Representing clients in court: If your case goes to court, a lawyer will represent you during hearings, present evidence, and argue your case before a judge or jury.
  • Handling retaliation claims: If you face retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint or reporting discriminatory practices, a lawyer can help you pursue a retaliation claim.
  • Advising on legal rights: A discrimination lawyer explains your legal rights under federal and state anti-discrimination laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADA, the Fair Housing Act, and others.

How Are Discrimination Lawyers Paid?

Discrimination lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the expected duration of the legal process. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many discrimination lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. Their fee is usually a percentage of the settlement or court award, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that don’t involve a contingency fee arrangement, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates for discrimination lawyers generally range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler legal tasks, such as drafting a discrimination complaint or providing legal advice, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some discrimination lawyers offer pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services, especially in cases involving low-income clients or significant civil rights issues.

It’s important to discuss fee arrangements during your initial consultation to ensure that you understand the total cost of legal services and how payment will be handled.

How Much Does a Discrimination Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a discrimination lawyer depends on factors like the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the potential for a settlement or trial. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, their fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win a settlement of $50,000 and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, they would receive $15,000, and you would keep the remaining $35,000.
  • Hourly rates: Discrimination lawyers who charge by the hour typically bill between $200 and $600 per hour. For example, a case that takes 20 hours of legal work at $300 per hour would cost $6,000 in legal fees.
  • Flat fees: Some legal services, such as filing a discrimination complaint or providing a legal consultation, may be available for a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale fees: In some cases, particularly for low-income individuals, lawyers may offer reduced fees or work pro bono.

Always ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation, and clarify whether the lawyer offers flexible payment options.

Top Questions to Ask a Discrimination Lawyer

Before hiring a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with discrimination cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled discrimination cases similar to yours, whether it involves employment, housing, or public accommodation discrimination.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs.
  3. What are my chances of success?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and the likelihood of success.
  4. How long will the process take?
Discrimination cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take, from filing a complaint to reaching a settlement or going to trial.
  5. Will I need to go to court?
Ask whether your case is likely to settle out of court or if a trial may be necessary. If a trial is possible, ask what steps the lawyer will take to prepare.
  6. What damages or remedies can I seek?
Ask about the types of compensation or corrective action you can pursue, such as back pay, emotional distress damages, job reinstatement, or policy changes.
  7. What steps should I take to protect my rights?
Ask for advice on how to document evidence, handle workplace or housing interactions, and avoid retaliation while your case is pending.

How to Check the Credibility of a Discrimination Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable discrimination lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and in good standing with the state bar association. You can check this on your state bar’s website.
  • Look for discrimination case experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in employment law, civil rights, or discrimination cases and have successfully handled similar cases in the past.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on discrimination matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in civil rights organizations or employment law associations, such as the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed account of the discrimination: Provide a clear description of the discriminatory actions, including dates, locations, and individuals involved. Document specific incidents and any witnesses who can support your claim.
  • Workplace or housing records: Bring copies of relevant employment or housing documents, such as job performance evaluations, rental agreements, emails, or written correspondence related to the discrimination.
  • Company or organization policies: If the discrimination occurred in the workplace or housing, bring copies of company policies, employee handbooks, or housing agreements that outline anti-discrimination policies.
  • Evidence of damages: Provide evidence of any financial losses, such as lost wages, job termination, or increased rent, as well as emotional or psychological distress caused by the discrimination.
  • Previous complaints or actions: If you’ve filed previous complaints or taken any action related to the discrimination, such as reporting the issue to HR or filing a complaint with a government agency, bring copies of those documents.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about your legal options, potential outcomes, and the lawyer’s approach to handling your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice for pursuing your discrimination claim.
