This is actually a tough review to write because truly I have appreciated so many things about Emily and her team. Some things that come to mind are that she would always encourage me kindly and professionally not to waste my time, effort, and money on a battle that I would not win. That being said, when there arose a time that she knew there was something I was passionate about she was always ready to go to bat for me. Another thing I loved about her was her and her office teams attention to detail, my documents always ended up looking very professional and free of typos and although I am a strong writer, Emily is also a strong writer which really helped get the story that needed to be told out there. Emily is truly a unique individual; she is personable and friendly and honest and kind; qualities that can be tough to find in an attorney. I suggest that you learn to trust her implicitly as getting through family litigation issues is stressful enough as it is. I can’t tell you how many times I was grateful to have such an amazing lady in my corner. I can’t say enough good things about her.

Emily Hahn has represented me in two cases, one of which we are still involved in. First, she helped me get a protection order. This was one of the most difficult times in my life. She gave me wonderful representation but her very caring and compassionate nature was what really won me over. Since then she has been representing me in a divorce. She has shown sound advice, and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the outcome of the final results of her motions. I have seen Ms. Hahn's expertise show through many times, and this has benefited me greatly. She is a very respectable, ethical and loyal attorney. If you need to hire an attorney, your best choice is Emily Hahn.

I hired Emily from day one she worked on my dissolution case and my dvpo case she is a true hard working and dedicated professional. She has amazing critical thinking skills and is always ahead of the game. She is fiscally honest when billing, honest in her advice and truly very organized. Attending court numerous times I objectively saw many attorneys running through facts and data and flying paper work around. Emily always presented her self as calm and organized, which was amazing. Her preparation prior to a Case is extremely thorough and she was worth every penny. Emily is thought prepared and 3 steps ahead in court and on my case.Emily and her paralegal are a huge investment they are a wonderful duo. Thank you for everything!

Chris is hands down the best lawyer I have hired, He is knowledgeable, and very Professional. He worked with me for over 10 months on my case, and he kept me in the loop every step of the way. If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't of won my case. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of an exceptional lawyer.

During my case Chris was helpful with another case that wasn't his responsibility and showed initiative to get both resolved with the best results. Chris kept me informed of things going on, And had multiple plans to get my cases dismissed. I would recommend Chris to anyone who's dealing with problems in the services he offers, he's a good honest family man, hopefully I won't need his help again but if I did there's no question I would call him again!

Chris Griffen has been my attorney for over 2 years now and every speeding ticket I've ever had (9 Total) he has gotten them dismissed or lowered to a non-moving violation saving my driving record and insurance premiums. I really appreciate all the hard work he has done for me and recommend him to anybody. As a teenage driver everyone makes mistakes, but with one call Chris can help save your driving record.

When Daniel was recommended to me, I did not expect it to be such a great experience. Daniel is the best lawyer I have ever encountered before. He helped me resolve my legal issue in a very professional manner and we won the case. I would also like to tell you about a very strong side of Daniel, he is not only a top level lawyer, he is also a very nice person who is supportive and encouraging. After working with him I didn't have to worry about my case at all, he supported me and counseled me, so I felt relieved. I think an attorney's empathetic side is very important, because I trust this person my reputation, my life. So, I highly recommend this highly skilled professional and very good person.

Paul was the only lawyer who was willing to take my case for something I could actually afford, and put in more work than I could possibly have asked of any lawyer at any price. He is honest, humble, funny, as well as well-versed and tireless in his pursuit of justice. No one wants to need these services, but if you find yourself in need of these services you want a human who knows the law from both a prosecution and defense perspective, is well versed in the law and systemic issue, and genuinely cares about his clients. DO NOT HIRE! They accepted my case, did absolutely nothing with it, and then Like 10 months later without warning or updates they emailed me and said they decided to drop my case and to figure something out quickly because time was running out for me to do anything about it. Thanks for wasting my time window and screwing me out of an opportunity to make my case.

Walking into Rodi’s office for the first time, I was nervous. I was staring down what was certain to be a long, nasty, complex divorce and I needed to make sure I had the best representation possible. But, I also had to know I could trust and relate to whoever might provide that. Rodi commanded the room with her presence, nevertheless, she immediately put me at ease. Within no time at all I could tell she understood where I was coming from, what my children and I were going through, and how my ex figured into these things. She got up to speed on my particularly complicated/unique situation extremely quickly, and I knew at once I had an ally. And a determined, smart, experienced, relentless, caring one at that. I knew she had my back from day one. And she never once faltered. Through the countless, pointless and malicious deviations, distractions, and motions my ex threw up to complicate things; the endless diatribe of slander and lies, the messy and ugly, Rodi was my rock. She – and her equally amazing and dedicated paralegal – gave me confidence, kept me informed, and put everything into perspective. She has a vast history with and inside knowledge of the courts and judges and she possesses a fierce, but steady, demeanor. She doesn’t let emotion get in the way as she works tirelessly to create a fair, appropriate, and welcome outcome. When my ex failed to even try to make mediation a success, we faced at court time—something both she and I had hoped to avoid. Mediation is always Rodi’s preferred outcome; that said, the court is truly where she shines. My own court experience turned into a three-day circus of sorts, thanks to my ex’s antics, vitriol, and curious representation. Rodi was at the top of her game fielding all the balls he kept trying to throw at us; she had hold of every thread and met each of his efforts with her legal expertise to ensure they fell short. Above all else, though, Rodi held my children at the heart of the everything and truly served as their advocate. There is no doubt that my kids were her highest, sacred priority. In the end, the outcome was best it could possibly be, given my situation. There is also no doubt that if it weren’t for Rodi O’Loane I don’t think I would have made it through all of this. She made me stronger and kept my family safe and protected. I would recommend her to anybody.

Although Nathan got me the initial paperwork the amount of money spent was not worth it. He failed to update the judge as required. Failed to submit paperwork I requested him too. Failed to explain billing. Failed to follow the judges order. Always wanted more and more money and accomplished nothing. Then when he wanted an additional 5 to ten thousand dollars and I just paid my rearage and refurbished my escrow he dumped me claiming it was not paid in time. Not true the payment through MI billing recieved the payment the morning of the 30th. Unless you have a fat wallet and can dump tens of thousands on these guys do not use them they are all about money with no results. 20,000 dollars later I get my butt chewed by the judge because Nathan did not do his job then dumped me with nothing to show but a twenty thousand dollar debt. Now I have to redo all of the paperwork myself thanks for nothing Nathan. Over billed with no results.

Ximena was referred to me by a colleague, and I'm so grateful I decided to hire her. She helped me with a challenging custody situation and was extremely knowledgeable and strong throughout the entire process. The situation was complicated and I wasn't entirely sure what the best approach was. She did an excellent job asking the right questions, helping me navigate the process and options with an objective eye, and ultimately helped to achieve the best possible outcome. Her approach is objective and direct (as it should be). Ximena's approach is strong, but she is extremely compassionate and truly cares about her clients. It is definitely not about how many hours she bills or if she can get the case to trial. I trusted her advice and she always had my back and my child's best interest in mind. I felt heard and validated with my concerns, as she has a wealth of experience dealing with similar challenging personalities and situations. I always felt supported and relief after consulting with her. Ximena is also a seasoned Snohomish County attorney, and is held in high regard with the court, judges, mediators, and other attorneys. She knows the system really well and knows how to best approach different individuals and steps of the process within the system. I hold Ximena in the highest regard, and will continue to leverage her services.

Yes that is exactly how I would describe her. She cares about her clients and listens to their needs and concerns. She stays invested in your case. Very professional. When you have 2 exes who refer to her as that b#$&@ you know you have an ace up your sleeve. I've told her if anybody ask me to marry them again they must take her out to dinner first. No regrets in hiring Ms West absolutely none.

It is so hard for me to build the courage to write what I know my fellow citizens and especially those like myself have held their right hand to their heart every single day in allegiance of the land we love. Aaron took money from me in a family matter. Knowing I am clean as a judge I was hoaxed into accepting an awe full arrangement which has made seeing my son nearly a functional obsolescence. Aaron. barged me near enough to $40,000 and I barely see my son. I do not smoke, drink and I am a good father. I have since tried to reach Aaron but always seem to end up speaking with his extremely rude and obnoxious phone lady Jennifer. Jennifer scares me as well. She is so rude and Aaron is one sneaky attorney. Stay away from the crooks. In my clear purview Aaron is a washed up attorney with no loyalty to his clients. Aaron is a walmart attorney. I have no fear that Aaron and Jennifer will now try and ruin my life even more. 100% not afraid of that clown. Hire a young attorney who has not forgot why he/she became an attorney. I feel as though Aaron was using my money to pay off debts or gambling I do not know what I know is the lack of representation and the amount charge seems criminal.

Dropped a huge retainer and we have not had a single filing completed in time for my family’s case with Leslie Gilberston specifically. Communication is massively lacking. I’m charged for every time I email or call for an update that I don’t get. Be wary when they say they have the capacity for your case and expect to be your own advocate with the courts if you choose this firm, especially if it is family law.

What a Domestic Violence Lawyer Can Do for You

A domestic violence lawyer provides legal assistance to individuals involved in cases of domestic abuse, whether you are a victim seeking protection or someone accused of domestic violence defending against the charges. These lawyers help with obtaining restraining orders (protective orders), representing clients in criminal court, and handling related family law issues such as child custody, divorce, and visitation rights.

If you are dealing with domestic violence, a lawyer can help protect your rights and navigate the legal system to ensure your safety or defend you if you’re falsely accused.

When Should I Hire a Domestic Violence Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a domestic violence lawyer if you are:

  • A Victim of Domestic Violence:
    • Filing for a protective order (restraining order): If you need immediate protection from an abuser, a lawyer can help you file for a protective order, which legally requires the abuser to stay away from you and refrain from contacting you.
    • Divorce or separation due to abuse: If domestic violence is a factor in your relationship, a lawyer can help you pursue a divorce or legal separation and ensure that you are protected throughout the process.
    • Child custody and visitation issues: A lawyer can help you secure custody of your children and limit or restrict the abuser’s visitation rights to protect the safety of your children.
    • Filing criminal charges: If you are pursuing criminal charges against the abuser, a domestic violence lawyer can work with law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure the case is handled properly.
    • Assistance with safety planning: A lawyer can advise on the legal steps to create a safety plan, including securing temporary housing, and taking steps to protect you and your family.
  • Accused of Domestic Violence:
    • Defending against criminal charges: If you’ve been accused of domestic violence, a lawyer can defend your case, challenge the evidence, and represent you in court. If possible, the lawyer can help get charges reduced or dismissed.
    • Challenging a restraining order: If someone has obtained a protective order against you, a lawyer can help you contest the order to prevent it from negatively impacting your life, including your employment and child custody rights.
    • Dealing with family law issues: Domestic violence allegations can affect child custody, divorce, and property division. A lawyer can represent your interests in family court and ensure that your parental rights are protected.
    • Avoiding criminal record implications: A lawyer can work to minimize the impact of the allegations on your record, which can affect your employment, housing, and future legal matters.

Hiring a lawyer at the earliest stages can help ensure your rights are protected and the case is handled effectively, whether you are seeking protection or defending against accusations.

What Does a Domestic Violence Lawyer Do?

A domestic violence lawyer provides various legal services depending on the specifics of your case. These responsibilities often include:

  • For Victims:
    • Filing for protective orders: A lawyer can help victims of domestic violence obtain temporary or permanent restraining orders, which provide legal protection by restricting the abuser’s access to you and your children.
    • Representing you in divorce and child custody matters: Domestic violence often leads to divorce or separation, and a lawyer can represent you in family court to protect your assets, secure custody of your children, and arrange spousal and child support.
    • Criminal representation: Lawyers work with law enforcement and prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against the abuser, ensuring that you are informed and supported throughout the legal process.
    • Safety planning and legal advice: Lawyers provide advice on how to stay safe legally and can assist in securing temporary housing, providing guidance on how to leave abusive situations safely.
  • For the Accused:
    • Defending against charges: A lawyer will build a defense by investigating the case, gathering evidence, and challenging the claims made against you. If necessary, the lawyer can negotiate with prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties.
    • Challenging protective orders: If a restraining order has been placed against you, a lawyer can contest the order and present evidence to defend against it, aiming to minimize its impact on your life and reputation.
    • Handling related family law issues: Lawyers help defend against domestic violence allegations in divorce, child custody, and visitation disputes, working to protect your parental rights and reputation.
    • Preventing long-term consequences: A lawyer will work to protect you from the long-term consequences of a domestic violence conviction, such as a criminal record that could affect employment, housing, and more.

How Are Domestic Violence Lawyers Paid?

Domestic violence lawyers generally charge for their services in different ways depending on the case's complexity and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many domestic violence lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Hourly rates are common for both criminal defense and family law matters.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as filing a restraining order or defending against a straightforward domestic violence charge, some lawyers offer a flat fee that covers all legal work related to that service.
  • Retainer: In complex cases, such as those involving criminal charges, divorce, and custody disputes, a lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some domestic violence lawyers provide pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services to victims of domestic abuse who cannot afford legal representation.

It’s important to discuss fees during your consultation to ensure you understand how much your case will cost and what payment options may be available.

How Much Does a Domestic Violence Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a domestic violence lawyer depends on the complexity of your case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal work required. General cost estimates include:

  • Restraining orders: The legal fees for filing a protective or restraining order typically range from $500 to $2,500, depending on whether the case requires a hearing.
  • Criminal defense: If you’re defending against domestic violence charges, legal fees may range from $2,500 to $15,000 or more, depending on whether the case goes to trial and the severity of the charges.
  • Family law issues: Legal fees for divorce, child custody, and other family law issues related to domestic violence can range from $3,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • Hourly rates: Domestic violence lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for their services, with more experienced lawyers charging higher rates.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand the total cost of legal services.

Top Questions to Ask a Domestic Violence Lawyer

Before hiring a domestic violence lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the right experience and approach for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with domestic violence cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled domestic violence cases similar to yours, whether you’re a victim or the accused.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, flat fees, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely outcome of my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Domestic violence cases vary in length, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what might cause delays.
  5. Will I need to appear in court?
Ask if your participation in court is required, and how the lawyer plans to represent you during hearings or trials.
  6. What steps should I take to protect myself or my rights?
Whether you’re a victim seeking protection or defending against allegations, ask the lawyer how they will help you navigate the situation.

How to Check the Credibility of a Domestic Violence Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable domestic violence lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for domestic violence experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in domestic violence cases and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients say about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have been involved in domestic violence cases.
  • Check for memberships in relevant organizations: Look for certifications or memberships in family law or domestic violence advocacy groups, such as the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a domestic violence lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • For Victims:
    • Details of the abuse: Prepare a detailed account of the abuse, including dates, locations, and descriptions of any injuries or threats.
    • Police reports and medical records: Bring copies of any police reports, medical records, or photographs that document the abuse.
    • Legal filings: If you have already filed for a restraining order or been involved in any legal proceedings, bring copies of those documents.
    • Questions about your safety and legal options: Be ready to ask about the best steps to protect yourself and your family, as well as what legal actions you should pursue.
  • For the Accused:
    • Details of the allegations: Prepare a detailed account of the incident or allegations against you, including any evidence or witnesses that support your defense.
    • Legal documents: Bring any legal documents you have received, such as a restraining order, criminal charges, or child custody filings.
    • Questions about your defense: Prepare questions about the legal process, possible penalties, and how the lawyer plans to defend your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation and provide the best possible legal advice.
