The advice that I received from Attorney Long H. Duong during our communication was not what I wanted to hear, but it was what I needed to hear. It became apparent to me that, he was protecting my best interest in the matter concerning adding my 4 siblings names to a couple of warranty deeds (which he advised against). Attorney Duong was professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with.

In dealing with my mother’s estate (or lack thereof) I only needed a 15-minute consultation with Mr. Duong. His is true to his statement about finding out if probate is necessary or if alternative solutions are available. I was drawn to his matter-of-fact information on the website that didn’t have the slant of “you must do this fast, and you must have a lawyer.” The ability to speak directly with the attorney and not have to filter through a sales pitch or commitment was a pleasant surprise, and at no point did I feel “small” in making my inquiry. It was more like a neighbor giving the best advice they can to get you in the right direction. At the end of the call, I had a better understanding of the Florida estate system and a good idea of how my family needed to move forward. If my circumstances needed more elaborate care, I would reach out to Mr. Duong again. I greatly appreciate his time and how kindly he addressed my questions.

I sent probate paperwork that I received for Mr. Duong to review. He contacted me and spent about an hour over the telephone going over each document. He took the time to answer my questions and listen to my concerns. I understood the relevance of the paperwork when the conversation was over.

Recently I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Mr. Howard Rosenblatt an estate planning lawyer He is an excellent lawyer very knowledgeable, patient, kind, and has a great sense of humor. The areas of need that I sought help for were personal and financial. Prior to each meeting he provided a draft of materials, well in advance, that I could review before our meeting. This allowed me with time necessary to study and ponder the documents so I could prepare questions. He took the time to go over every question that I had, and never rushed me. His secretary is very kind and courteous. She made many accommodations on my behalf. His entire staff and associates are excellent. I highly recommend Mr. Rosenblatt to anyone seeking legal advice and services.

Shannon Miller and her team at the Miller Law Firm did an exceptional job arranging our estate. They were incredibly thorough, covering every possible detail that needed to be addressed. Throughout the process, Shannon and her team were professional, hard-working, and extremely knowledgeable, which gave us complete peace of mind. We always felt like we were in great hands and are so happy we made the decision to plan our estate with the Miller Law Firm. The entire process was smooth and stress-free. In addition to being an outstanding estate attorney, Shannon is also a phenomenal elder care attorney. We are now planning to have her handle my parents' estate as well. I have 100% confidence that she will take care of everything to ensure their affairs are in order and that they are well protected, especially as they age. I highly recommend Shannon Miller and her team to anyone in need of estate planning or elder care legal services.

Everyone I dealt with was top notch - knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient. Though what I needed was fairly straight-forward, I needed assistance ASAP, and their team made it happen. Most of all, I appreciated their kindness and empathy and the respect they gave my 93 year old mom. I recommend their explanatory videos as well.

I could not speak any better of this law firm. My case was assigned to Chris Jones, with Logan Doll as second chair. From to start to finish, these gentleman were so very comforting. I do not regret any dollar paid, they did their job as if they were fighting for themselves. My case was an interesting one against the state. Mr. Jones was on top of every detail from the beginning; he would even take the time to call my witnesses. Prior to trial a meeting was set up because Mr. Jones knew I had never been to court and wanted to prep me to his best ability. In the court room, Mr. Jones and Mr. Doll were unreal. They kept me calm and explained everything going on to the best of their ability. Mr. Jones fought in that court room as if he was fighting for himself. He even had the jury loving him. Once my trial was won, I was congratulated by Mr. Jones, Mr. Edwards, and Mr. Doll. Just an all around great team that stands by you, makes you laugh through the hard times, and fights for you and what is right. I could not recommend them more!

They work hard. Mr. Doll, Esq. Is a good man, I trust him and his team. UPDATED. The above review was done just a few days before my trial. I wanted to make sure I'd get the chance to post a review that reflected my positive experience with this Law firm. The problem, at the time, was that my stress level was through the roof as this trial had the potential of life in prison for me. Being over 60, you don't need much of a sentence to realize this could be the rest of my life. Now that the trail is over I have so much more I want to share about this firm: Immediately after being arrested, Logan Doll got involved and after 23 days of waiting for my bond hearing, he was able to negotiate a reduced bail with house arrest pending trial. False charges can be devastating and complicated. You cannot prove a negative but this team at Edwards & Jones took the time and consideration to plow through, absorb, and become familiar with the people, personalities, and evidence for a full year. Including issuing subpoenas for depositions and speaking with every single person involved. Mr. Logan and his paralegals sifted through every photo, and scrap of paper we gave them, and gave sincere attention and consideration to our commentary and firsthand insite responses to deposition transcripts that we reviewed. Sometimes when you are deep in the middle of something like this, it's hard to make sense of anything. Logan, however, was able to pull together everything from us and the prosecution, and by trial I'd say they knew more about our lives and family than we did. At trial, Chris Jones took second chair and I felt that they were on top of things. Their confidence did a lot to keep my stress manageable. The way that they conducted themselves in direct and cross examination was professional, and kind, and intense where needed. The second day of trial Tom Edwards also attended and I felt honored to have the whole team by my side. They didn't “get me off", they fought hard; challenging the lies and bringing out truths, giving the court and jury what they needed to bring a full acquittal. Kind and compassionate, wise and strategic. In the end my highest praise is to consider them friends.

My experience with Bobi J. Frank and her team was superb. I found myself in whirlwind last year with a charge that ended up destroying my reputation, career, and at times, I believed, my life. Bobi and her team, which included attorney Erica Hay at the time, were the perfect combination of care, compassion, and tenacity. Each of these elements were needed and necessary to resolve my case. Bobi and Erica, from the very moment we met, knew exactly what we needed to do and utilized their professional relationships and resources with me to help build my defense, which were crucial to the outcome. Beyond a miracle of having the charges dropped against me, I could not have asked for a better outcome that Bobi was able to obtain for me, especially in light of all that surrounded my case. Bobi is no-nonesense, and when you are dealing with a legal matter, this is exactly the kind of person you want fighting for you. Bobi and Erica went above and beyond in many ways to help not only myself, but also provided great support and advice for my family so that the event we were dealing with did not completely unravel, nor destroy us. I say this without hyperbole, I am grateful to God for Bobi J. Frank, Erica Hay, and the rest of her team and without reservation, highly recommend them for your legal needs.

I can honestly say, hiring Bobi J Frank PA as my attorney, was one of the smartest decisions I have ever made. She was truly a blessing to have by my side during one of the darkest situations of my life. While working with her, Bobi made me feel like I was her ONLY client. Bobi and her team were responsive, patient and understanding. She took, what could have been, a very unpleasant experience and made it an extremely positive one. If you are in need of legal representation, do yourself a favor and contact her right away! Thank you Bobi! For everything.

John Ramsey is not a good lawyer he can't across very pleasant at first & quickly became very easily irritable not speaking to his client nor the client's representative nor persons that paid out finances to help the client. He only got one offer by the States Attorney & expected the family of the client to do the leg work & find witnesses to do depositions. He spoke rudely, used foul language & did not help his client in any manner that should have taken the amount of money that he required. If anyone chooses him as their future representative they are making a terrible mistake. He really needs to retire & give up his day job. I am entitled to my personal opinion like anyone else.

Hopefully my review would save someone the headache. Mr. Ramsey comes across as very pleasant, but he has another side. While incarcerated, I hired him to represent me in 2 cases. The first day I was arrested my family took him the money to represent me. After not speaking with him in over 30 days and call being declined, I had my bondsman do a 3 way call. He did not answer, but returned the call within 5 mins. My bondsman explained my frustration and Mr. Ramsey got upset. He proceeded with calling the association and having my bondsman’s calls blocked from the jail house. He also called my Children’s father and told him that he believed my bondsman and I were having relations. He then decided to send me a letter in the mail stating he was withdrawing from one of my cases. I ended up spending way more time in jail because of him not communicating and his unprofessionalism. After almost 4 months in jail, I fired him. I got another attorney and was free at my next court date. His reputation is horrible. It was shocking to hear about all the bad experiences the inmates had with him. I’m shocked that he’s still able to practice after so many complaints. Beware

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
