Ellen is a great Lawyer. Throughout the whole process she was always there to answer any questions that I had (I had a lot. Sometimes reaching out to Ellen several times a week)or provide me with knowledge on how the the process works. Ellen was always very professional and i felt she truly cared about me as a person and was always looking out for my best interest. Overall I am very satisfied with the outcome of my case.I would highly recommend Ellen to any friends or family looking for a great Lawyer. Once again I would like to thank you for everything you did for me Ellen!

This is the second situation where Attorney Glasz has represented our family. The first was a personal matter and Attorney Glasz did a super job and got probably the best outcome we could have hoped for under the circumstances. This time Attorney Glasz represented us in a family matter and given the conditions, again, things probably could not have gone much better. He's been nothing but professional and forthcoming with his guidance to get us to the best outcomes. We give him 5 stars and will use his services again when needed in the future.

I cannot recommend Amie Martinez highly enough for anyone in need of a family law attorney. During one of the most emotionally challenging times in our family’s life, Amie Martinez provided me with exceptional legal representation that not only resulted in a positive outcome but also prioritized the well-being of my son above all else. From the moment I met Ms. Martinez, I was struck by her professionalism, empathy, and dedication to my case. She took the time to listen to my concerns, understand my unique situation, and develop a legal strategy that aligned perfectly with our family’s needs and goals. One of the most impressive aspects of working with Ms. Martinez was her unwavering commitment to keeping me informed and involved every step of the way. Communication was prompt, clear, and always focused on ensuring that I understood my options and felt empowered to make informed decisions. What truly sets Ms. Martinez apart is her genuine concern for the well-being of the whole family. Throughout the legal process, she consistently reminded me to prioritize my child’s best interest, and her expertise in navigating complex family dynamics was invaluable. Thanks to Ms. Martinez’ expertise and dedication, I achieved a positive outcome that exceeded my expectations while minimizing stress and disruption to our family. Her timeliness, attention to detail, and compassion make her not just an exceptional attorney but also a trusted ally during challenging times. If you are searching for a family law attorney who will prioritize your family’s well-being, provide outstanding legal representation, and truly care about your case, look no further than Amie Martinez. She is simply the best in the business.

***************** Buyer BEWARE!!*********** 1. This firm is a FATHER'S RIGHTS Firm ( I would have never gone there as a Mom had I known this -- nor is it disclosed anywhere. It became obvious over time, in her multiple failures to protect me) 2. Please notice that there are **very few positive** reviews for Steffanie Kotick on this page; this clearly conveys a message to the client. 3. Positive reviews are over 5 years old. It has been a long time since this attorney performed well for her clients. 3. These failures were: failed to show up at mutliple hearings gravely harming my case, NO showed at a Protection order hearing, blew off off an Intervenor hearing leaving me completely exposed! It wasn't calendared, her receptionist couldn't even find her. While we waited for her to show up, opposing counsel said he had reached out to her and NEVER heard from her. This cost me $12K!!!, plus my legal fees, lost income, an entire business, almost all its assets!!! She blew off at least three (3) hearing dates!, Made commitments for various actions that she failed to follow through on, failed to file a balance sheet and parenting plan for trial, at a contempt hearing: literally failed to present any of my evidence or ask me any questions from the narrative/affidavit provided and I was found guilty on counts where I was largely innocent and had multiple defense. I was lilterally thrown under the bus. I recall when the hearing ended, that sick in the pit of my stomach feeling. This was extremly negligent on her part she left me totally exposed, vulnerable and UNDEFENDED. 4. She reassured me she'd complete trial, then WITHDREW on the LAST DAY OF TRIAL, after a private conversation with Matt Catlett and Judge Post leaving me without a DEFENSE and scrambling to put together a 2.8 year old case in 8 weeks Pro Se. I lost everything as a result of it. The grave material harms are so severe as to be utterly debilitating and castastrophic . 5. "NE SHARED PARENTING FOUNDATION" recommended her -- as they supposedly help with hardship cases. No. BUYER BEWARE for NE SHARED PARENTING FOUNDATION. It appears that this entity works as a Father's Rights program as well. 6. Extremely poor communicator -- I had a crisis with assets and an email and call trail of a few months and she REFUSED and FAILED to address the issue before it came to a head -- then thousands of dollars of assets were lost. She RARELY communicated, unless I scheduled a sit down meeting where she'd make all sorts of promises to be more assertive and never did: she was given entire packets of affidavit/documents for opposing party's failure to pay medical bills, failure to fulfill complete and throuough discoveries, failure to complete a 2nd level parenting course, extreme amounts of failures to exercise parenting time...and she did NOTHING about any of it! 7. She left me defenseless, unprotected..and absolutely, unjustly destroyed my credibilty with the Judge. 8. She failed to coordinate, keep apprised and communicate with an expert witness. 9.She did nothing when the Judge failed to follow Statutes requring an ex parte PO or a hearing, I was denied both, and it was immediately dismissed - after there was a history of one being Ordered. 10. I produced all of my updated discoveries to her and she failed to produce them to the opposing counsel! This recklessly exposed me to the risk for contempt.

I had the privilege of working with Steffanie Kotik on a complex family law case, and I can’t recommend her enough. From the very start, she demonstrated a deep understanding of family law and offered strategic yet compassionate guidance that made a huge difference throughout the process. Steffanie wasn’t just thorough and diligent—she truly cared about my well-being and that of my family. What really stood out was her clear and consistent communication. She kept me updated regularly and was always available to answer any questions, no matter how small. This made a challenging time feel much more manageable. Steffanie’s ability to handle the complexities of my case with both professionalism and empathy played a big part in my case progression. Steffanie’s thoughtful and straightforward approach made sure I felt informed and prepared every step of the way. Her combination of empathy, directness, and tactical expertise is rare, and I’m incredibly grateful for her support. If you're looking for a lawyer who is not only highly competent but also genuinely cares about her clients, Steffanie Kotik is the one to call. I'm deeply grateful for her help and highly recommend her services.

Hoppe took a $1,000 retainer and subsequently didn’t do any work whatsoever for a case that would have been easy. Both parties were in agreement on all terms and we just needed the courts to make it official. But he did nothing but take my money. (I have the receipt still) When I asked if I was able to even get half that mony back he laughed and responded “that’s not how this works.” Despite not providing me with any real services. I felt scammed and taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. That was money I didn’t have at the time. I am aware that some people may have had a good experience with him but my guess is those people were much more financially well off than I was. Either that or he was too embarrassed to admit he made a mistake and instead of making things right he doubled down and in a sense stole money from a young single mother. I hope that if he’s reading this he knows he still has a chance to make things right with me by returning even SOME of that money. But I doubt he ever will.

My experience with Cada, Cada, and Jewson, acting on behalf of a debt collector (PCR), was extremely disheartening. Rather than engaging in a good-faith effort to resolve the matter, they seemed solely interested in pushing the collector's agenda with no intention of settling. I spoke with Doug, who blatantly lied, claiming to have called me multiple times when, in reality, he hadn’t. It's absurd to think that such tactics can pass as professional conduct. As an academic business professor, I find it deeply troubling that the current legal system allows debt collectors and their legal representatives to get away with questionable practices (they subpoenaed my mother-in-law, overall acted like a big bully), and in other states, such behavior would never be tolerated. It’s only a matter of time before this approach catches up with them. I ended up paying an extra $80 plus my debt since PCR is collecting court cost fees for the Zoom motion to trial I attended with Judge Reuter (Courtroom 21). Unfortunately, I lost the focus to fight this battle, but I sincerely hope someone will have the energy to push this fight to the end and set a legal precedent. All in all, there's a lot of shady business going on to collect debt with no room to suggest the original firm (Gastroenterology Associates of Nebraska and Lincoln Digestive Health) did anything wrong. These two firms or entities are considered one at the time of practicing, but two when billing. Also, the firm gave a colonoscopy that should have been free but cost a fortune. It's crazy that a one minute change in the doctor's office's practice lead to this huge headache. PCR decided very early on that they were going to take me to court, probably because they saw my good credit. I hope you are stronger than me and can fight them to the end.

Lisa knew that accepting a plea deal was not in our families' best interest but somehow she was able to convince my husband to accept a plea deal which I had told her and him that I would divorce him if he did. Now my husband is in an appeal process but this deal that he accepted could cause him to be a sex offender for life and/or never be able to be free in the US again because he will not be able to proceed with gaining permanent status in the US as he was an immigrant when I married him. I do not believe Lisa earned the money that we paid her. My family and I have been trying to get the money back from Lisa that we gave her but she will not respond to our numerous messages or return any of our phone calls. Somehow my husband was rushed into court less than 24 hours after agreeing to accept the plea but for other court dates we waited months and months. His court was in the morning and the night before Lisa had received more evidence from the prosecution, Lisa claims she was not able to open the file so didn't know what had been sent to her but rather than asking for a continuance or bringing it up at all she proceeded with locking my husband into that plea deal which I had clearly communicated was not in our families' best interest. It takes a lot of work to be prepared for trial and it's clear that Lisa didn't want to have to do that, by the time my husband accepted the plea deal nearly two years after his initial arrest and over 2 years after the alleged crime Lisa should have had plenty of time to go through all evidence and talk to my husband's witnesses but she had not. Based on our experience with her I would not recommend her services.

She didn’t listen, just did her own thing regardless of the clients needs. Charged me for every different form she could find. Lost my documents and was late with court deadlines. In the courtroom she stumbled and couldn’t come up with a strong question for the life of her. She kept asking g the judge about what exhibit what was. Embarrassing! I think there should be a way to get your money back. Reduculous

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
