I recently had the opportunity to interact with Brett, and I was truly impressed. While I couldn't afford their services at this time, their responsiveness and willingness to help stood out. Brett provided thorough and informative answers to all my questions, demonstrating a high level of professionalism throughout our communication. What I appreciated most was their promptness; I never felt like I was left waiting for a response. This kind of customer service is rare and creates a lasting positive impression. I may not have been able to move forward this time, but I would definitely consider reaching out again in the future when the budget allows. Highly recommended for anyone seeking reliable and professional support! I will be sure to recommend them to other business owners i know.

I have worked with John for many years and I can confidently say that he is not your average lawyer. John is OUTSTANDING at making sure that he is providing the best legal services paired with the best customer service. He truly wants to take care of his clients and make sure that they are protected and enriched by their association with his firm. But, it's not only this! He is so fun and personable to work with! There are many professionals that I dread having to talk to--John is not one of those! He is very warm and approachable.

I've worked with John and his form for years on various different topics and I would say that one thing that always resonates is that they just care. It's not about the client's money or the prestige with this firm its all about helping the client. I can honestly say that I've worked with many attorneys over the years and it doesn't feel like a client / attorney interaction it's just nice. I'd highly recommend Michaelson Law

My husband and I were nervous about the guardianship process. We had heard horror stories of the lengthy process and the hoops they make people jump through. I cannot begin to tell you what having such a professional, pleasant group of individuals helping us with this has meant to our family. From the receptionist to the paralegals, we just don't think we have met a nicer group of people. Dan himself is just such a quality individual and having him in our corner made everything so easy. We definitely recommend this office for anyone involved in guardianship and estate planning. We will be back with our own needs. Thanks so much!

I am an attorney myself, so you can likely imagine that I am a hard customer when it comes to selecting counsel. But, to put together an estate plan and trusts for my family, I did not want an amateur, and I did not want just anyone. Mr. Goodsell first came to my attention when I met one of his associates, for whom I developed a deep level of respect. Well, the professional apple does not fall far from the tree, and Mr. Goodsell impressed me deeply with his knowledge, responsiveness, and attention to educating me as a client. I am proud to have retained him, and I am delighted with what he has provided to us thus far. When a lawyer recommends his own lawyer to you, you ought to take that with some weight.

Counselor Tyrell helped us through a very scary guardianship and adoption process. We had never been through anything like that before and the waters were extremely difficult to navigate as we worked to get all the necessary documents, signatures, interviews and court orders in place. Adopting a child, especially a child with which you've bonded, can be incredibly stressful and worrisome because until it is all done there is the constant fear some agent or agency may deny your application for a myriad of possible reasons! Add our unfamiliarity with the adoption process as a whole and you get the fearful, frantic couple that was us for the 3 years that it took to complete the adoption. The difficulties stemmed from the number of transactions that needed to take place between the State of Nevada, our daughter's birthplace and the current location of the birthparents which encompassed 3 different states altogether. Counselor Tyrell was very thorough and precise in providing guidance to us and helping us meet every requirement put forth by all jurisdictions/agencies involved! She was accommodating and informative EVERY step of the way. She held our hand through the entire process and was our constant rock when we would have bouts of discouragement! Her determination and concern for the success of our adoption application was clearly genuine to us. She became far more than just legal counsel. She became family to us and it's a relationship we will continue to maintain for the rest of our thankful lives! We cant say enough about her competence, drive, character, and compassion! Counselor Tyrell is everything we could have hoped for in a lawyer and in a friend affectionately known by our daughter as "Auntie Elyse"! My family greatly recommends her and the entire law firm of Trent, Tyrell & Associates!!

The adoption of our grandchild was a very emotional and stressful time for my wife and me. We consider ourselves very fortunate that Elyse Tyrell was our attorney in this matter. We found Elyse to be not only extremely competent and professional in handling the legal aspects of our case but also very caring and compassionate during a difficult time for us. Taking into account that it was necessary for me to retire in order to stay home and care for a 7 year old child, Elyse did much of the work pro bono. I highly recommend Elyse Tyrell and would not hesitate to seek her counsel if the need should ever arise again.

I would definitely recommend her and her staff .

I needed good legal guidance and quick action when my client entered a Las Vegas hospital with terminal illness. Catherine is knowledgeable, responsive, and a pleasure to work with. She has answers to any and all questions and no question was too silly for her. All documents were professionally done with no errors. I would, and have already, recommend this firm to anyone in need of and excellent probate firm in Nevada.

Kim was recommended to us long ago. We are so glad now that we entrusted to her the revision of our legal/estate documents. Kim is really an expert in elder law. We previously used a different group and can clearly see Kim is much better. Kim and Danielle really listened to what we wanted and carefully included those clauses in our docs. They had good answers to our questions and challenges and had a solid rationale for why things were written as they were. They were very thorough. And the cost was reasonable.

Dara Goldsmith was recommended to me by another accomplished attourney. She was very helpful in helping me through the process of determining the best course of action regarding a family member’s will and trust. She provided me with very helpful information and expert advice. To top it off, after our call, she took the time to summarize her findings and suggestions in an email so that I could refer to it when discussing the situation with the beneficiaries. Dara really helped me sort out a challenging situation by providing facts and solid legal advice.

My Father passed unexpectedly and thought he had his estate taken care of because he paid for his funeral in advance and had assigned an administrator/power of attorney to handle his affairs. The nightmare began about 30 days from his death when the administrator my Dad had assigned failed at his duties. From lies and misinformation that cost me thousands of dollars and having to move out of the house, storage fees as well mis-filed paperwork. When it was apparent that the administrator was in over his head and the estate was going nowhere with threats of foreclosure and the integrity of any assets that my Father had worked so hard to pass down, the decision to call Lee Drizin was made. From day one Mr. Drizins firm took control of the mess on hand and navigated the probate process seamlessly. Janine @ Drizin Law is an asset you cannot put a price on. The absolute best communication I've ever encountered in all my 53 years on this planet. From explaining this difficult and confusing process to her countless 2 minute email replies, her dedication and service to her job and her customers is unmatched. The best advice I could ever give to anyone is to establish a trust for your estate if you care that your wishes be carried out after your death AND call Lee Drizin to handle the process for you. You will not be disapointed!

There's a reason Lee Drizin is so highly rated on Google, and it's because he is a really good attorney. I'm a young woman, still in college, and when my mother passed unexpectedly and suddenly, I wasn't sure what to do to handle her estate and everything that comes after someone passes. I found Mr Drizin on Google, and it has been history ever since. Him and his team are constantly available to answer any questions one may have during the entire process, and he has steamlined the entire thing to be as painless and direct as possible. It is not easy at all, as there are so many accounts nowadays that people can have, but I was always directed to who exactly to contact and what to do. My advise is twofold to anyone going through the probate process after the loss of a loved one: one, use Lee Drizin, and two, make sure to keep on top of all you have to do on your part to get paperwork and documents. These are the best ways to make it as painless as you can. I also want to thank Mr Drizin and his team for also suggesting an accountant to help with the final tax documents, which also smoothed the process. With decades of experience, it clearly shows in everything Mr Drizin does to run his attorney's office. I cannot recommend him enough. I'm not sure how the other attorneys compare, but I can guarantee that he knows his stuff and gets it done here.

If I could leave zero stars, I would! I hired Jennifer Isso to help me with my divorce. Worse decision I made!!! She came across as empathic, knowledgeable, understanding & caring. I thought I could trust her. This couldn't be further from the truth! My health is really bad & I've never been divorced, so I needed her help & guidance through this process. I continued to pay her whatever she asked for, since she was considered an unbundled lawyer. Turns out she's one of the most unprofessional people I've ever met!!! Treat people how you want to be treated!! Period!! I paid her a total of $5100 which included a TPO. I had been approving the Disclosure documentation on Oct. 29th with her for my second court date on Nov. 19th (today). Without any communication at all with me, she files in court on Monday (Oct. 30th) morning that she had dropped me as her lawyer!!! Who does that??!! Unbelievable!! This is how you treat a client??!! Really??!! How unprofessional is that!! Tuesday morning, she emails my husband informing him that she's dropped me!! This is when I found out what had happened. I was shocked & speechless!!! My first thought was this has to be a mistake. Right? No professional behaves in this manner!! She had time to notify my husband & not me the client??!! Unacceptable on so many levels!!! Proper business practices is you let your CLIENT know. All she needed to do was to tell me she needed additional money to represent me in court. It's that simple!! It's called communication!! No one's a mind reader!!! I was paying for professional representation, so I assumed. This morning was my court date with the judge. I paid Jennifer Isso $1000 for the Disclosures that I assumed was being submitted to the judge (she never told me otherwise & wasn't communicating with me). She only sent my husband a copy that was it!! The court received nothing. What goes around, comes around!!! I truly had trusted her & she proved to me that I should've never hired her!

I was referred by a fellow attorney to Riley Clayton to help one of my clients with a potential issue regarding insurance coverage. I was absolutely blown away by his responsiveness, eloquence, and his generosity, not only with me but with my client. He is incredibly well-versed in the area, and, from a handful of emails and a short call, it's obvious why he's so highly regarded by his colleagues. Both my client and I feel such relief knowing Riley is helping us navigate this complex issue.

I went to Harriet on consultation on Elder Law and estate planning for my mother who was going through a very difficult medical situation. My brother and I needed to get her qualified for Medicaid ASAP and Harriet was very informative and knew her stuff. My situation was a bit less involved than what she usually works with but she still took the time to help me in any way possible. Take the time to talk to her and find out for yourself.

Stacy was professional, patient, and knowledgeable. Not to mention a very pleasant, down-to-earth person. My wife and I were doing pretty comprehensive estate planning including wills, a revocable trust, and various power of attorney documents. Stacy walked us through each step in detail and answered all of our questions. I would not hesitate to recommend Stacy or her firm.

I have had the privilege of working with Vanessa Turley for quite some time, during which I have consistently been impressed by her legal acumen, commitment to her clients, and ability to navigate complex legal matters. Vanessa Turley has a deep understanding of family law, including divorce, child custody, and child advocacy. She possesses a unique ability to approach highly emotional cases with sensitivity and compassion while maintaining a steadfast dedication to protecting her clients’ rights. Her strategic thinking and meticulous preparation have resulted in favorable outcomes for many families in need of legal assistance. In addition to her expertise in family law, Vanessa Turley has demonstrated her proficiency at the appellate level, having successfully managed cases before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. She navigated the complexities of appellate procedures with ease, skillfully presenting arguments and defending clients' interests. Beyond Vanessa Turley’s legal expertise, she also exhibits professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic. The review below is from my partner. I was the handyman Laura Payne hired to do demo/construction on her home. It was an initial 3 day bid, which due to scope creep, turned into much more work, turning the full scope into 4-5 days work (all discussed and approved, though roughly understood on her part). On the beginning of the 3rd day, I arrived at her multimillion dollar estate in a gated community to find I had tools stolen out of her house by an electrician who came in without me there. Her response was to have her son and a strange man come into the closet while I was working, accuse me of lying about my tools and terminate her and my contract. It escalated verbally but I agreed to leave if I was paid for my time and supplies and got my tools. They then physically choked me on her front porch in broad daylight. The cops were called. And stories were gathered. Her, her son (who physically partook in and watched the battery), and the assailant Alfredo denied choking me or him even touching me at all. Her house is heavily video monitored, so I told the cops to pull the footage. He said he only could if they offered. Which they fully “cooperated” with the cop. The Paynes showed the cop altered footage that included unaltered clips of me bringing thousands of dollars of tools out of the house, the verbal altercations with Alfredo and son, but conveniently was missing the first minute of the clip where Alfredo choked me on her porch and attempted to shove me down 2 flights of stairs. Laura and her family/friends impeded and obstructed an investigation for battery on her personal property. I have zero legal recourse to have that crime investigated accurately now. They also put me in physical danger im a position where my egress, ability to defend myself or have an objective 3rd party were limited, if not completely unavailable. The optics/hindsight on this is scary. I have contacted the Nevada State Bar Association, her community HOA and intend on contacting the news. Laura paid me for supplies and the first 2 days but did not pay me for any of my time on the last day. She has since retroactively offered, but I told her I do not want her money. This is more than about money. This is about her ethics as a person and lawyer. As someone who has had the unfortunate, traumatic experience of working with her, I can positively say that she lacks ethical integrity completely. I did not deserve to be physically assaulted. There is no excuse for that. Attached are pictures of the project and scratches on my neck and shoulders from Alfredo choking me (2 days post incident). Though I was verbally defending myself, I did not physically touch anyone. Personal context: I’m currently a handyman/ punch carpenter. But drywaller/painter by trade. 10 years experience in my field. I have 2 college degrees; graduated from Western Michigan University in 2017 with a double major in English and journalism, minor ad promo. I spent the first 10 years of my professional life working for non profits and juvenile detention centers; helping marginalized populations learn to express themselves in nonviolent, creative ways. I finished my stint in CMH/social services in 2019 as a house manager for 1 of 3 homeless shelters in SW Michigan. That said, I have given back and given to the good in this world. I’ve been a community leader. This is unacceptable.

This “lawyer” hired my husband for a multi day demolition and construction project, which half way through after changing the scope of the job repeatedly, sent in her son and another man to threaten him to leave without payment. These actions were unprompted. Then her male friend proceeds to C H O K E him as he’s leaving her doorsteps which she asked him to do. there are scratches on his neck from this, police took pictures. These actions were on her ring camera footage, but this lawyer conveniently deleted the exact segment of the footage where her friend was assaulting him by the time the cops arrived. Wealthy Personal injury lawyer causing injury to poor working class folks. The man I love life was in danger because she was unhappy with a job she doesnt know how to do herself that she keeps requesting changes on.. I’ve never been so appalled by a person before, and I do not think she has a soul.

I recently went through a messy divorce and needed some quick legal representation and Allison & Mackenzie came highly recommended. I called the office and I was directed to Mr. Daniel Judd we met and discussed my situation and during our meeting had a couple of melt downs . Daniel always made me feel reassured and I felt better after talking to him. He was always very professional and very empathetic towards my case. I highly recommend Daniel and Allison Mackenzie law firm. From day one anyone that I interacted with at the firm was pleasant and very professional and very kind (Daniel, Hannah and the nice lady at the front desk) Thank you Daniel for all your hard work . Hopefully I will not need you again but if I do you’re the one I will be calling! ; )

I have worked with Daniel Judd quite a few times for a variety of family situations, and he has always been an immense help. He has also been nothing but friendly and understanding to my family while we struggled. When my Dad was terminally ill, Judd managed to squeeze us in within the week to help draft a will for him, and he has once again been assisting us with the aftermath of my Dad’s passing. All of the appointments my family has made were scheduled within a week and a half, so there was no major wait time to get consultations. Daniel Judd has also been very available and flexible in answering questions, which I greatly appreciate. I’m in my 20s and have never had to get an attorney, so it’s very helpful to have someone be patient and walk me through the process. He has also been available for advice relating to the next steps of our proceedings. I highly recommend him!

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
