I scheduled a consultation with Mr. Murphy to ask a few questions about how to handle some estate business. I can’t even describe how kind and helpful he was. He gave me so much helpful information on how to get started on issues we need to address. He will definitely be our choice attorney when we get started! Thank you, Mr. Murphy!

A couple months I realized I needed to update my old estate planning documents, so I sought a knowledgeable, personable, forward-thinking attorney in Little Rock. My research led me to Patrick Murphy, and I scheduled a free initial consultation with Patrick via Zoom. That meeting was, perhaps, the best Zoom meeting I've ever had. Patrick listened to my current estate planning needs, and demonstrated that he understood my areas of concern. He patiently and thoroughly answered my numerous questions in plain English (rather than legalese). Of course, I hired him to update my estate planning documents. Less than two months later, my new estate planning documents were executed. Patrick Murphy's strengths are: -knowledge of the law (especially estate planning and tax law) -great communication skills -experience individualizing estate planning to match each client's needs -tremendous accessibility. Patrick is a experienced attorney with a gold mine of knowledge who promptly returned my phone calls, responded to my emails, and kept me informed every step of the way as we progressed towards the execution of my estate planning documents. I highly recommend Patrick Murphy.

I hired Patrick to represent me for a sale of land in Arkansas and it turned out to be the best thing I have ever done. I would not hesitant to use him again in the future and would also recommend him to anyone I know that needs a real estate agent. He has been extremely helpful and very diligent throughout the process. He made the process so easy for me and I trusted him and his experience from the first step to the last step of the process. He is highly experienced in this area and very friendly. If you are looking for a very well versed real estate agent or any other service that he provides (estate planning, business transactions etc.), I highly recommend using his Law firm. Patrick - Thank you again! It was a pleasure getting to know you.

I cannot begin to say enough good things about this professional, compassionate, and kind lady. I sent an email on a Sunday, called Monday morning to follow up, fully expecting to talk to an receptionist and leave a message for maybe a junior partner or assistant. I was then transferred and the voice on the other end answered, "Hi, this is Rebecca. How can I help you?" I was so impressed with her knowledge, experience, and concern! The fact that she would stop during her busy day (a Monday even!) and spend time answering my questions was just astounding to me! I am planning to retain her in the near future and cannot imagine considering anyone else! I would strongly recommend her to anyone! I just hate to share the fact that she is so incredible because once the word is out . . . . :). I'm indebted to her more than she knows, just for her kindness and taking the time to talk to me. And she had answers too! I definitely want this lady on my side!!!

I’ve sent multiple emails, and made multiple calls for updates on this matter with no response. The last information I received was on 2/7/2024. It has been radio silence since then.

My husband and I recently decided to get our affairs in order. We chose Nicholas Corry to assist us in the major endeavor of establishing a revocable trust. We were so pleased with our choice. Nick guided us through every step and explained the different documents we would need to make certain our family would have the needed answers at the appropriate time. He then had all the documents recorded for us. Also, we were slow to make some decisions and Nick was very patient with us and remained in contact with us to answer our questions. Both my husband and I highly recommend Nicholas Corry and if we need legal assistance in the future, we will most certainly call Nick.

I was looking for estate planning during the pandemic since I had recently lost my husband. I ran across videos done by Nic and Daniel Stidham at Stidham Financial. I had probably 5 consults with other law/estate practices prior to this. I ended up engaging with Nic to prepare multiple trusts, will, and healthcare directive. Nic also is my liaison with Cumberland Trust who will manage the trust when I pass. He is very detailed and organized but also very approachable. He is willing to think outside the normal box to find the solution I was envisioning. My properties are in GA and FL and he handled the trusts and deed changes for those seamlessly. I also like the fact they do annual reviews to ensure your documents stay current with what is going on in your life currently. I highly recommend Nic.

I hired Vince, consulted with Vince, and he was great: There where no problems at all. He is very Affordable. Brief story: I am no attorney. However I have Won cases on my own. However I was down on my luck not winning a case. I went to him with my situation . He told me up front I can't promise you anything. However I will fight for you the best I can. He did just that and more. This guy is for the people and not tying to lie to you or rip you off like I had experience in the past. Vince Morris gave me hope that there are good guys in the attorney field. Thank you again for helping me Vince. You gave me hope in trusting attorneys. There are some good ones and bad ones. Vince is definitely the good one. -BW HARRIS

I paid Greg $1,000 to start a case for me over an asbestos related problem that I encountered after purchasing an old school building at an online auction. He was the first lawyer I talked to that actually took an interest in the case and acted like he was going to help, so I excitedly hired him and gave him $1,000 up front. This has been almost 2 years ago. He has sent out one letter requesting that I would like the money I spent on the project back and that's it. I cannot get a hold of him now it's been going on a year since I last spoke to him probably. I've tried to contact him several times and left messages and he he won't return my phone calls and he has done nothing further. The last time I spoke with him he was going to send out another letter informing the person who owned the building before that we were going to sue but he has not done that. I don't know why he would take the case if he couldn't do something more than what he's done and why I had to pay him $1,000 to send one letter. It is not very good for business when you give somebody your word you're going to do something and then don't hold up to your end. If you have a case and you're looking to get something done and would like to have a lawyer that's on top of his business and keeps his word I would not hire him. Also I see that he has reviews on here from just a few months ago as well as a few weeks ago so that says to me that he is still operating and doing business and has just been ignoring me intentionally. I think I may go to the better Business bureau and see what I can do or my good friend Herby Branscum who who is an outstanding lawyer that I highly would recommend. Before I hired Greg I talked to Herby about the case and he said this wasn't his area of expertise that I should probably look into hiring a real estate lawyer so I did, but I'm pretty sure that what Mr. Almand has done is in his area of expertise. I was hoping that I would hear back from him that's why I have let this go for some time now hoping he would do the right thing but since that's not happening as of now I guess we will have to take the next step and get this matter resolved one way or another. I'm also going to share this post on social media and put it out there for the public so that they will be aware and won't make the same mistake I made and waste their money and time hopefully. If a person can't be true to their word then what do they have to stand on.

Mr. Files represented me as the defendant and custodial parent in my paternity, custody, and child support case. I found him to be patient, collected, thorough, and attentive in his legal counsel. He was quick to respond to my emails when needed. I always felt that he was on my team. He is not one of these lawyers who will fill my head with what I wanted to hear just to make a buck, but what I needed to hear to be reasonably prepared for this process. I found him to be very rational, honest and upfront. In the end he helped to represent my position with the judge regarding my ability to protect my child from her father's alcoholism and general unfitness while still allowing for an opportunity for him to have the healthiest possible relationship with her as I requested. His thoughtful counsel and representation earned us a very satisfactory final ruling to meet my family's needs despite having three different judges presiding over our case.

I was looking for an attorney for a land deed transfer, after looking online i found Mr. warden and emailed him regarding the price to transfer. He promptly responded giving me a very reasonable flat fee for the transfer. He was prompt at returning my calls. He explained the process in detail, and answered all my questions. He does practice in other areas of law as well. Don’t hesitate to call him. He is very knowledgeable. Thank you Mr warden.

I found Mr. Warden through the internet when I was looking for someone to help my husband and I set up a Joint Trust so, when the our time was up, probate could be avoided by our surviving family. When searching local lawyers I discovered they were either too busy too meet with us any time soon, or too expensive. That's when I found the Law Office of Harry Warden, and though he was 4 hours away, through the power of email, and with clear and patient instructions, we were able to get it done in a timely manner and at a price we were happy with. Thanks to the Law Office of Harry Warden and his staff, our future is a bit more secure for our family! 5 Stars all the way!

Shane handles all of our collection cases that require legal remedy. He knows bankruptcy law well and isn't afraid to fight when there's something fishy going on. We've had very undesirable experiences with local attorneys in the past billing extensively yet not making any favorable progress on our cases. The very first case I gave him, he saved us from taking a loss of over $8,000 on an unsecured debt in a chapter 7. My previous attorney didn't want to touch it even though I had done all the legwork for him skip-tracing (debtor didn't list spouse's income and they had been married and living at the same place for 3 years). Shane took it head on and negotiated our debt as non-dischargeable through an agreed order. Debtor paid us in full within a week of the discharge. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a "hungry" lawyer.

My family and I were in desperate need of a lawyer to take my brother’s federal case. We got a recommendation for Mr. Morledge and reached out, he was hands down very considerate, listened to every detail and gave his honest opinion and what was gonna be best for my brothers case and took his case immediately. We couldn’t be more happier and content with the end results on how Mr. Morledge went above and beyond to get a hold of things other lawyers were having issues with, his team, as well as himself were always reaching out, giving us updates on the process and any question or concern were always answered, even if it was the weekend Mr.Morledge would answer my call. We highly recommend Morledge Law Firm for federal cases, he will not disappoint and truly makes you feel welcomed and I’m very thankful to Kim who would answer all my calls and would call me immediately right after receiving new updates! This is a law firm you can honestly trust and will not have to question if they’ll get the job done! Mr. Morledge did that and more for my family! Thank you Mr. Birc!

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
