Mrs Thacker helped me through the loss of my mother , step father and younger brother all in the same event. I had never had to deal with legal situations like this. It was complicated and took years to resolve and complicated by the event happening overseas and the other side of the family separate lawyer. After experiencing the headache of not having everything set from my parents estate , she also helped my family with our estate planning. She guided us with us care and understanding. Mrs. Thacker prepared wills for my mother, my husband and myself, years ago. Upon my husband's recent death, Mrs. Thacker has re-written my will so as to update it, which includes a trust for a disabled child. She has given me strong legal advice regarding the reading of my husband's will and the disbursement of his estate as well as dealing with one of my husband's disgruntled children. This took such a burden off my shoulders during this unfortunate situation in my life. She is handling the probation of my husband's will. She has such a big heart and so knowledgeable about many things. I would recommend her to anyone!

Julie Sombathy represented me in a very professional, virtuous, and passionate manner. Not only is she an incredibly knowledgeable attorney, she is also extremely passionate about representing her clients in an ethical and honorable way. In addition, she took a personal interest in my case and made me feel as though she really cared about the outcome. She restored my faith in the legal profession and let me know that there are still honest, hard working lawyers out there. If I ever needed legal representation in the future, I would, without hesitation, hire Ms. Sombathy again.

Chad Templeton is by far the best attorney I have ever had the privilege of being represented by. He went above and beyond to handle the multiple cases I had and I could not be any happier or satisfied with his performance and exceptional capabilities. The way he pursues his cases is hard to come by in an attorney and his persistence is unbelievable. Not only do I recommend Mr. Templeton, I strongly encourage anyone having criminal legal matters to obtain his representation. Thank you for all the hard work you put in for me, Chad. If I ever find myself in another jam, you will be the first one I call.

I hired Jason to draft my will and found him to be very knowledgeable, professional, and understanding. The appointment making process was painless, his staff was courteous and attentive to my needs. I was informed of what documents I would need, and when I showed up I was seen promptly at my appointment time. Jason asked pertinent questions, listened to what I wanted and helped me make sure to consider every aspect of the process. His knowledge of the laws dealing with wills and estate planning was impressive and he used them to ensure my loved ones are not over taxed after my passing. I would highly recommend him to all of my family and friends.

Mr. Stafford came highly recommended both personally and professionally and was hired to settle a contract dispute. Upon contacting his office I was quickly set up with an appointment. Although he did not handle the original contract, he provided professional, knowledgeable assistance regarding the issue and resolved my case quickly. He made sure I was well informed and promptly took or returned my calls if I had any questions about my case. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

Me and my wife went to the Morris Lawfirm originally about a year ago. I was drawn to this lawfirm by just the pure professionalism that was displayed with every interaction from simple email to in person , etc. Fair, honest and willing to work with the individual. They know to choose the right person to represent each unique and complex case. They take cases they believe they can do well with, not just to take a case and get paid . When I originally went to Mr. Morris I was facing losing my freedom and my home, my car, my clean record, basically everything that was dear to me was on the line. They recognized that my case was in need of professional counsel and knew they could mabye make things better for me. Well let me just say that Mr. Morris, Cynthia Havel and the entire team there have professionally and patiently given me and my wife a whole clean slate and chanch at repairing my life as a professional whole. The rest is up to me! Thank you and happy new year!!! P.S. They also where the ONLY law firm of several that I contacted that immediately answered and called me back the same day. I was seen after the weekend for consultation and would have been the same day if I was available. Not the other way around!

Dana and his team are nothing short of amazing. When I first spoke with him I knew I was in good hands. Chelsea was my lead attorney, she is quick to respond, was incredibly helpful through the process, and absolutely knocked it out of the park. If you’re in need of legal assistance, look no further. I can’t say enough great things about this firm.

What can I say about Jenna and her team? Nothing but the best. We had a very long and exhausting adoption case and we were losing hope that our adoption would fail. Florida adoption laws were very confusing. The adoption entity was extremely pushy and rude and flat out unprofessional. Thankfully Jenna went above and beyond to fight for us and explained everything in detail. Jenna has a strong passion for helping others and doesn't do it for the money. She has a heart of gold and truly cares! I cant thank Jenna and her team enough.

I highly recommend Alia to anyone looking for a very dedicated family law lawyer. I hired Alia on very late in my case, and she was very understanding of my situation and was very flexible. From the moment she was put on the case she started moving mountains. From getting information updated and making sure it was accurate, to listening to my concerns and helping set realistic expectations during the process. At the beginning of my case I was scared of what to expect and told by a previous lawyer that what I wanted was unattainable. Alia helped with creating a time sharing plan that was ethical, respected my boundaries, and put my kids first. She fought for my concerns and made me feel heard. I am very grateful to have had her as my lawyer.

From my understanding my case was very long! I was dealing with a father with Dementia who was dealing with everything from step children stealing every dime he had from his bank account, drug addicted squatters living in his home, a realtor circling around his real estate putting Lady Byrd deeds on everything in order to cheat my father's biological children, we went through 2 guardians one who died on us another who I felt could no longer be trusted, who decides to budy up to an estranged Sister who pops up out of nowhere to take control of the case. To say I didn't know where to start is an understatement. Max McCord was the answer to my prayers. He is tough, he is sympathetic to your emotions, and he is very trustworthy on how your outcome is going to be. When you are watching your dying parent and too heartbroken and confused to figure out the law of elder abuse MAX McCord is your guy everything to ch

Very ignorant and disrespectful of the law. She Somehow rather finds fault in a no-fault divorce state. She destroys assets, she ignores assets, she cares only about herself, and her $500 a month tight retainer, and keeping up that acrimony and litigation so they can get that trial date. She was only one of about four or five that Virga kept passing over. I feel very sorry for her. As well as her clients and their victims. She was fired eventually. Hurricane Michael paid her fees.

Took my money to handle a probate. He did not complete the probate and would not return my emails, texts or calls. I had to hire another attorney and the new attorney had trouble locating Batton to have him sign a release to transfer the probate to the new attorney. I probably should have reported him for this. What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
