Daniel Hollander is very experienced in his field. He had answers to all my questions and made me feel more comfortable going into my court case. Him and his partner Mike Noone absolute killed it and got all of my charges dropped. It seemed like Mr. Hollander knew just about everyone in the court house from his past professional experience, that is always nice to know and made me feel more settled about my case as well.

Why all the 5 star reviews? Because Jen, Sharon, and the team have taken a transaction based business and turned it upside down. They have made estate planning a people, process, and relationship business and combined it with a flat fee model. They follow-up periodically to ensure everything is still valid and in order. Client peace of mind is paramount with Peak Legal. They take the angst out of having to deal with the standard time and material billing model. Their proactive approach is just what clients require especially when it involves the arcane world of estate planning. Well done Jen, Sharon, and team!

My husband and I used Peak Legal to make sure our existing living trust from another state was legal in PA. Jen (and the whole team) were incredibly professional, clear and prepared for every meeting. I was very impressed by the way they respected our need to take time to make big decisions without ever making us feel either rushed or abandoned. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

Our appointment with Jen Walker surpassed our expectations. Her knowledge and experience helped us to make the right decision for our family. She was patient and thorough as she made sure we understood the options available, taking the time to educate us so we would be confident in our estate choices. We had been to an attorney previously who had not offered any of the information Jen did. We highly recommend her to assist you with your estate planning needs. We feel so lucky to have found her and you will too.

He is a gentlemen and a first rate attorney. I trust both his integrity and his knowledge of the law. It is the combination of these two traits that enables him to represent his clients so ably. It is also the reason I chose to work with him. Both I and my clients have benefited ever since.

Ken saved my you know what, u got hit by a motorcycle in my Mustang and the officer tried to blame me for it by citing me with careless driving (which is ridiculous as it wasn't my fault) and window tinting (only lightly on my side windows only.) Ken questioned the officer in court and long story short the officer didn't have his story together (as Ken proved) and the judge found me not guilty on both counts! Not to mention he saved me a fortune on lawyer fees, court costs, and fines! Very professional and very knowledgeable, definitely has your best interests (and wallet) at heart! I will call him every time I need legal advice from now on! Hopefully I don't need to though! BIG thank you to Kenneth for going above and beyond and helping me out, he creates a whole new level of confidence!

Therese Money was excellent! I found Therese was knowledgeable in everything you would need to know about handling the Estate of a deceased individual, (my particular estate was in Chester County PA). She was always available to answer questions by phone or email. If I left messages I heard back right away. Therese took great care to make sure all things were done on time, exactly as they needed to be submitted to everyone involved, including the courts. Handled any family concerns regarding settlements of the estate. All advice I received was put to use and it always resulted in the right results. I would highly recommen her. She is personable, and I cant say enough about how much I appreciated her, and the knowledge she has.

When I initially consulted Alex Silow to explain the details of my case, he seemed like a good fit as we had a similar take on both the situation and the plan of action. Unfortunately, our relationship soured quickly. I found him to be arrogant, rude, and self-serving. I learned to despise him even more than the lying cops and the low-life DA who cared nothing of my innocence, but only for the chance to bolster his record at my expense. They can all rot in hell and I hope they do. Silow interrupted me, and yelled at me repeatedly in the course of phone calls that should have been a calm back and forth discourse. There was no reason for such abhorrent behavior. I have never met anyone in any profession that talks to their clients like that. This is unacceptable in any setting. And he refused to believe me even though every word I said is true, which only complicated the case. Furthermore, it is my belief that he purposely failed to get the case dismissed in a pre-trial hearing, so that I would have to pay him another $2,500 to go to trial. If his pre-trial failure was not on purpose, then his defense was grossly incompetent. I was charged with theft. Fortunately, there was surveillance video of the entire incident, in which I picked a single piece of scrap wood out of a trash pile and put it back exactly where I found it in under 60 seconds. In order for that to be theft, by definition, there has to be "economic loss". So, after watching the video, the judge says "what's the difference between stealing a car and returning it the next day and stealing this piece of wood and returning it? Any decent attorney would have answered that taking a piece of wood from a demolished deck out of a scrap pile and putting it back within 60 seconds does not constitute "economic loss". Silow failed to do so. The judge held the charge over for trial and Silow put another $2,500 in his pocket, after which the DA, knowing he did not stand a chance at trail, promtly dropped the charges. This experience was a real eye opener about just how corrupt the criminal justice system is. Cops, judges and DAs need criminals (real or fabricated) to justify their cushy salaries from the county. And the defense lawyers are all too happy to extract every dollar they can from the defendant. It's a scam, and they're all in on it. Silow puts on a good act as if he cares, but he's about the $$$, not the client. Disclaimer. The above statements of opinion are just that, my opinion, not facts or accusations. Note: I did not just walk up radomly to a woodpile. I had worked on this property many times for the former owner, who is a building contractor, and believed that this wood belonged to him

Karyn was recommended to my Family by a coworker of my husband. We needed guidance and legal advice after my Mother moved in with my sister. This occurred after my Father's death and the sale of their home in 2012. Karyn has truly done an outstanding job in assisting us in establishing a Family Care Agreement. Her manner is completely professional, calm, helpful, and genuine. Karyn has also made suggestions that has made a tremendous difference in my sister's caretaking of our Mother. Karyn is pleasant and always treats us with respect. Our Mother loves her! Recently, we needed to arrange for a daily caretaker to assist Mom. Once again, Karyn guided us through that process. Her responses to phone calls and emails has been great. We see Karyn as an advocate, and not "just a lawyer". We are so grateful to her !

The passing of our father 5years ago was an eyeopening experience. Our Dad was the most organized person on the planet. His personal safe was so perfect that it was like he was in the room with us when we started to unravel What his intentions were. Leaving my mom in good shape we needed legal advice to have Mom's personal affIairs in order for the future. As a family we thought we were in good shape. We were but we not well versed on estate planning, power of attorney, living will etc. The difference between Medicare & Medicaid was a mystery to us and we needed to be on tract for the future. Karyn was recommended to us by a business associate of my brother in law. Being the youngest of the family I have the resposonbility of being the primary care taker for my mom. To descibe me I am a butterfly with a sper. Tough individual who is a hard sell. After our first family meeting I was releaved and happy to have her signed on as our attorney. Wonderful with my mom ,she showed nothing but compassion and CLEARLY outlined what steps needed to have in place. My Dad would have really liked her. she is smart. Well versed. professional but down to earth. We now operate like a well oiled machine and have our ducks in a row with the ability to handle obstacles. HIGHLY recommend Karyn. In this day and age it's hard to find integrity.

Steven was the 3rd attorney I'd hired during my divorce and the one whom I stuck with to help me navigate through my divorce. I did have to do some leg work myself, but in my opinion that's normal to have a personal stake in the outcome. Steven's experience in law and his ability to stay empathetic but separate from emotions and facts with respect to the law served me immensely. I highly suspect the 5 star reviews are fake. They keep you in the dark, hold internal meetings without your awareness and make decisions without your input or knowledge (only to learn about it at the next billing cycle) and are very, very difficult to get hold of. Almost all emails are met with out of office replies and no voicemails ever responded to. When a status hearing I did not know existed was extended by my attorney without my knowledge (only to learn this in the next billing cycle) and saw my attorney had answers to interrogatories for nearly a month without telling me only to discover this from OJS = you're fired. OJS literally laughed and smiled... like yeah good luck with that, seemed par for the course. Not to mention a strong, positive person for my case was not contacted three separate times my lawyer told me he would, only for him to say when I finally called him out that he didn't think he was important, is more than messed up, it's unethical = you're fired. Didn't trust me, and didn't even contact the person... so how would you know? That's just a small piece. I highly do not recommend this "law" firm.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
