Great place and caring people. I did medical power of attorney for my two kids that just turn 18. I am glad I was told about this service because I now know my kids in college have a medical issue that I still can take care of them. Also great price and so easy.

Tom and Simona are consummate professionals that worked tirelessly on my case. They supported me not just as a client but as a person as well. Beyond a shadow of a doubt I would recommend them and the Lovorn Law Firm to anyone needing legal assistance.

I worked with Leigh Ann Greenberg and Jordan Estrada on a probate administration and heirship determination matter recently in a county near San Antonio. They were incredibly professional and finalized the case very quickly for their client, which seems to be rare these days because a lot of attorneys I work with take forever to finalize simple matters. Neither Leigh Ann or Jordan are afraid to pick up a phone and talk to opposing counsel too, which saves time on any case instead of typing emails, which can run up a client's bill. I was very impressed with this law firm, Leigh Ann and Jordan, and I refer them for probate/estate planning/trusts/trust administration and the other types of law they offer legal services for.

I appreciate all Deena did for my family. She worked with my mother before she passed away then worked with my brothers and me after my mothers passing. We asked lots of questions and she was always available with lots of answers.

My husband and I were planning on going on a trip abroad without the kids. I wanted to leave everything in order just in case something happened to us. I’ve never hired an attorney before and was so pleased with how easy it was to work with Deena. She thoroughly explained all the legal documents we needed (will, directive, guardian for minors etc) and had them ready for our review in less than a week. She even came to our home when we had to sign the documents to ensure we didn’t miss anything. We left to our trip with peace of mind - will definitely hire Deena again. Highly recommended!

I'm just a little fish in a big pond and really felt that I was being bullied by a well represented landlord. After reviewing the documents and gathering the facts Mr Hundley was ready to take immediate action and give the other side fair warning to cease and desist. So far so good, but if I need to go any further legally... This IS the man I will put my faith in to fight for me.

I have known Patrick for 13 years and he has never hesitated to reach out to me or listen to my emotional pleas...lol. He counsels me and teaches me and made me always feel as though I was his family. I have had to use him in a criminal case when I was a juvenile and needed him in a long drawn out child custody case as well. I thank him and his family and God for blessing our family with having him in our life. I pray he can help us in this child custody case we are facing again. I'm sure the great Lord will have everything work out just fine. Thanks Patrick.

Tom has been by far the best attorney we have had! He had a very short amount of time to prepare for our case during a holiday week he worked diligently to gain the knowledge and understanding of every aspect as well as remain engaged to any questions or concerns we had along the way! We never felt rushed or that our concerns were not important with Tom. He explained every legal aspect in terms we could clearly understand and what that meant moving forward. He far exceeded every expectation we had!! He changed so many lives by helping us with our case and we are just so very thankful for him!

This is one of the FEW attorneys out there that will fight for you and defend you as long as you do your end and don’t mess up. She has a lot of heart and spunk in the courtroom where it counts she’s not shy. My case was an impossible one to get my children back and they are actually coming homing in 3 weeks after a long year which is fault due to mine not mrs Harris’s. But she pretty much got them back she believes in what’s right and understands people make mistakes. We’re human and in my case I’m mentally sick but have gotten medication and made several improvements. If you need help please hire her I promise she is worth every dime! She’s been behind me all the one she takes each case seriously your not just a case number to her

Matt and his staff are a very professional firm that worked hard to help my bf in his custody case for his 2 kids after their mother moved them states away. They were very responsive and kept us well informed throughout the entire process. I especially loved how hard hitting they were when it came to negotiating for the custody order. They never gave in to requests unless they were in their clients best interest! I definitely recommend The Gilbert Office!

Kendall County Court assigned Kurtis to my niece case, it’s going on 2 months she been in jail he never answer the ph or visit her. I called yesterday a lady answer the phone I left a message it’s a new day he still haven’t called. I called the office multiple times today nobody is answering. If Kurtis is appointed to you as a lawyer your life is headed to a road of destruction & by reading all these horrible reviews his action meets everything others are saying. I appreciate others sharing their experiences that way I can know the next steps on helping my niece out because he she never seen Kurtis & her family never can get him to return a call! It’s best you a dog represent you then Kurtis!

Mr. Rudkin was really patient, and knowledgeable on how he handled my three felony charges. I was not a felon before I acquired three different felony charges in three different counties, Kerr, Medina, and Bandera counties, and after several years of in and out of court I'm still not a felon. I don't have the words to explain how satisfied and pleased my family and I are with his representation. I still have my gun rights and in this day in time, I can't imagine not being able to protect my family if something happened and my rights were taken. He has a way of making me see things his way and in court I know why he handled me and the court issues the way he did because we went 0:3 on felony convictions and to be honest I didn't think it was even possible due to the circumstances. Very pleased he is a very terrific lawyer who should have a better rating In my book.

Kurt was very hard to get in touch with. I’d already paid two attorneys to answer my case. The first unfortunately passed away. The second, although it was my first misdemeanor including even not a traffic citation in 42 years on the planet abnoxiously withdrew while I was hospitalized and I had to physically check myself out of an ICU bed in a hospital to sign my own reset documents even though I had paid him. I decided to allow the court to appoint me an attorney as I was out 10,000.00 for nothing. Mr. Rudkin was appointed and it took weeks to get in touch with him. When I finally did he was aggressively arrogant and never available. Call his office for a paid consult and you will find the same. I’m not a person who has any idea of court procedures other than to do my best to abide by them. I was not as many say I’m aware, guilty. I did end up however after pleading with Mr. Rudken to resolve a case that had “2” AFFIDAVITS of non prosecution to resolve it. My final day after he coerced me to come to jury selection of which he said “You’ve been offered many deals and this will be set for jury trial” was the breaking point. I am a very calm person but I felt I was being forced because as court records later showed, I’d never been offered a SINGLE plea nor had one been requested. He did not care one ounce about me, things I had been adamant about and even had video disproving. He presented, keep in mind by court record, a single piece of information to the states attorney. Nothing. The worst thing is because of his absolute disregard for professional duty as even a court appointed counselor did nothing. I plead and received deferred adjudication only after he told me in front of my mother that “I’d had numerous opportunities to reach a deal”! I had not per district court records and he forced me to trial until I stated quite firmly that I wouldn’t tolerate it and demanded defferred, no fines, and etc.! 3 minutes later the man returned to say the states attorney agreed to it........ he did nothing til I made him. Still had to pay his attorney fees exceeding 1400 dollars. Terrible attorney. Not as bad as the one I paid 5000 dollars who withdrew. Absolutely no spin!!!! Be very cautious. Not a good attorney or person.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
