Aubrey was absolutely AMAZING to work with. She was given barely 3 weeks before the court case and she took that case and dominated the courtroom. She is very knowledgeable, professional, and rocked in the courtroom. Definitely worth every penny spent. Would definitely use again and highly recommend to anyone needing a family law attorney

I can write a book about my good experience with Keesha Montaya and Tanae, but it will be too long. I can sum up everything in a few words, she genuinely CARES for you, not only as a client, but also acknowledging you as a person going through a rough time. With no one around for moral support,She became my light at the end of the tunnel fighting like a Queen.

There are numerous things that prompted me to give Adam five stars. One Adam personally calls you back or emails you timely. No paralegal. He came to our house to take the application and made getting information about the case as convenient and timely as possible. His advice on how to approach the case and present the evidence was spot on. He was supportive and encouraging and compassionate through the process. When you are going through a medical challenge you don’t need an attorney that just is going through the motions. With Adam’s guidance our case was approved very smoothly. If you or you loved one needs a disability attorney Adam is your man. If you are bogged down trying to do it yourself. Stop and hire Adam. Adam was a blessing to us and I can’t recommend him enough. He truly is a “Super Lawyer” in our book. We are actual clients in 2022. Thank you Adam and God bless.

Adam took on my case and promptly took things from not being able to get a response to communication, progress, and ultimately a positive outcome. Adam always knew the correct approach to take in the case. The communication with the other party/their representation was professional and on point. The advice as to how to handle the situation was well thought out and accurate. Adam always knew the right questions to ask in order to find out what the appropriate next step was, and he always took my information, goals and feedback into account. Even though my case was not a large one, he treated me like a human throughout the entire process. In the end, he very quickly got a fair and positive result. I highly recommend Adam. He truly was great to work with.

I made a big mistake in hiring this attorney to represent me in what should have been a simple family law matter. I could have left this review back in 2021 but I held out hope that this would be made right. I hired Mr Davis in 2021 for minor modification and enforcement of visitation. Mr Davis asked me to drive to Austin for the consultation so I drove almost 5 hours to meet with him. At conclusion of the consultation, Mr Davis said I have a good case. Mr Davis recommended that I should go for full custody back as I had the full custody of my son raising him for 5 years after his mother abandoned the child when our son was just 14 moths old. Mr Davis requested a retainer & as I recall, I paid him $15k. He claims he was given a retainer of only $10k, but let’s be honest - that is still a lot of money to get enforcement of an existing visitation agreement or even to go back to court for a full custody modification, isn’t it? Fast Forward to the day of the hearing. I had a witness fly in from the east coast - we had a mutual ex-wife. My witness and I observed Mr Davis enter the court house and my witness pointed out Mr Davis in discussion with our ex-wife’s attorney. After this chat ended, Mr Davis approached me telling me to go find another lawyer. Mr Davis then departed, abandoning me right before the hearing with no prior notice that he wanted to withdraw. Mr Davis to this day has refused to tell me why he abandoned me and my case immediately preceding the hearing. After repeated attempts to get Mr Davis to do what I paid a retainer for or at least give me an explanation for why I was left to fend for myself, I finally submitted a complaint with the State Bar of Texas & the Texas Attorney General’s office reporting my experience for them to investigate. I have also filed a lawsuit for this abandonment situation in District Court in Austin. May justice prevail.

I have the highest praise for Terrence Davis and his staff who represented my daughter in her recent divorce. Terrence and his staff are a highly experienced, honest, friendly & caring team with the client’s best interests at heart. Terrence’s knowledge and experience give him a confidence that assured and calmed my daughter and I at every stressful turn. The staff worked tirelessly, analyzing and organizing mountains of documents, and provided us with immediate responses, guidance and reassurance. If you are looking for someone to represent you, trust Terrence Davis -- he’ll win. We did, and we’ll forever be thankful.

I cannot say enough nice things about the Davis law firm. He and his staff are very professional and knowledgeable. They answered calls and emails promptly. Mr. Davis works extremely hard to get the best results for his clients. He is honest and helps you to get the best results for you without overspending. I hired Mr. Davis in the middle of my divorce and was very nervous about doing so. He worked very diligently to get up to speed on my case and having him represent me made all the difference in the world. I was so confident with him backing me. He does not back down to other aggressive attorneys. He is very knowledgeable with the law and they back down in a hurry. I could not have asked for a better attorney or staff to get me through this difficult time. I recommend him to anyone in need of a family attorney.

We hired Justin as my family blindsided with Divorce papers, After providing him with 6 folder full of records and he was so unprepared prepared in court, it blew my mind. The inattention to detail and how very unprepared he was. We were unnerved when, just before the hearing he asked for more money - this was after having been paid the retainer well before the trial. Long story short he had to be asked to say the obvious by us during the trial and the judge kept looking at him for checking his phone repeatedly during the trial rather than listening to the hearing. He ended up working out the best deal for the opposing attorney and went over to the other attorney patting him on the back. No matter the circumstances Justin will do his best to help himself while harming our kiddos and extended family. Thank you Jackson Law firm!

I retained Mr. Jackson for a family law case and it was pulling teeth to get him to respond to me. He wouldn’t respond to emails in timely manner and would just ignore them. He does not have an open line of communication and I felt like I was the least of his worries. He was of money and time and took 6 months to file one piece of paperwork.

I have worst experience ever. They took my case and my retainer and since than they don’t care how many times I called and tried to reach. The attorney is hard to find in office for appointments and never shows up on the days of appointment. The staff is rude and unprofessional. They will waste your time and money. If you want representation in a case, this is not a lawyer you are looking for.

Yep, Ron can be rude and annoying. He is, however, a FANTASTIC lawyer. I've had to go to him twice for help getting custody of my special needs sister. If I had listened to him, it would have been only once. He had my mother on the stand and he was so gentle yet so effective, the change was made with a minimum of pain. My sister's life in both safety and quality is fantastic and she now has opportunities not available when she was kept at home with my mom. As far as I'm concerned, this is the guy I go to for legal help.

This is by far the most rudest, self-absorbed attorney I've ever spoken with. After a VERY brief phone conversation (15-30 seconds) I was told that if I needed a free consultation about divorce and bankruptcy than I obviously couldn't afford both anyway (how in the heck would HE know what I can afford???). When I said I didn't need to file for divorce or to file bankruptcy, he said then I didn't need a lawyer and hung up on me. Ron Butler's website offers a variety of services. My situation is a combination of several of those issues, out of state, federal, and now very obvious far, far too complicated for Ron Butler to even comprehend. This also makes me seriously question the validity of his website.

I've heard of horror stories about court appointed attorneys. I have the worst attorney I ever have the court appoint to represent my case. Campbell has never once asked me for my statement and used the arrest affidavit as my statement. He never argued, litigate or negotiated to accept the least amount of punishment the DA would offer. I myself had to argue my own case to the judge. My mistake was relying too much on Campbell.

I was falsely accused of a threat. On the first visit with him(while I was in jail) he told me that "in reality people are guilty unless they can prove their innocence:. Just what one wants to hear. I was locked up for over a month as he was unable/unwilling to get me a release and he never got me in-front of a judge! I felt he didn't want to do anything because he was a public defender and getting little money. He kept dragging it out until I had to plead to something I didn't do or spend the secongd month in jail and lose everything. He is a quack!!!!

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
