Jay White is an increadible attorney with 30 plus years of experience, which is one of the traits to a great attorney. I initially went with a popular online law firm that specializes in tickets… and they were too green in handling a case like mine. The benefits of using an attorney like Mr. White is his years of experience, and he personally looks at your case and takes an approach based off that case and not out to make a quick buck and put it on the pipeline. Jay White proved his swift and efficient representation, which is what you expect from a high caliber attorney. He has a very efficient, honest, and transparent team that comes along with his representation. I do not live in NC but that wasn’t a problem, he took care of everything and I am incredibly satisfied with the outcome of my case. Consider Jay White for your next representation you are in good hands.

Courtney was my lawyer and she was extremely professional, very attentive, treated my like I was family, and took care of my case with excellent results. Courtney was on top of everything, kept in contact with me and checked on me throughout my entire case. Courtney had my best interest at heart, which was very comforting (as nobody likes to deal with legal issues.) I would DEFINTELY recommend Courtney Neal to any and all of my family and friends. Top notch service!!! Thanks again Ms. Neal for all your help.

After firing my last attorney Mr. Weinshenker was next up on the court appointed list. I couldn't have been more lucky. Right away I could tell the difference between the two lawyers. He emailed me a couple times a day. He also was very blunt and let me know the reality of the situation. He's my new go-to lawyer. My case isn't over with but I just want everyone know who is looking for a lawyer, this guy is awesome!

Seth is the best attorney I have had through the course of my divorce and custody cases. From the first time I met him, he was professional, took detailed notes, asked pertinent questions and was highly available. He got my custody case into court quickly and was always more than blunt about the reality of the possible outcomes. He is down to earth, personable, and down to business. And he has a LOT of experience in his field. In one case he actually spent enough time researching law to figure out that the opposing attorney had filed completely improper paperwork against me and the suit against me was dismissed. He is very thorough. I can't say enough nice things about his professionalism. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. He was able to accomplish for me what two prior attorneys in Cabarrus county failed at miserably.

Kristin was incredibly thorough with all information and documentation for my separation. She made sure that I understood everything that I was agreeing to, and made sure that she had all the necessary facts. She also helped me keep perspective while going through such an emotional event. There were times that my emotions made me want to ask for things out of spite from my ex-husband, and she was always very calm and clear about what was fair, realistic, and financially worth fighting for, without letting my husband or his attorney take advantage of me. I can honestly say she made the entire experience as pleasant as it could possibly be - some days I think she made as great a therapist as an attorney! I trust her implicitly, and I know that at all times she was looking out for my best interests, not just hers. Of course, results also speak volumes about an attorney's abilities and I can say that at the end of the proceedings I left my marriage with full ownership of the house, all savings accounts, retirement accounts, a paid-off car, and our dogs. In the end, I felt that the final agreement was more than fair in my favor, and that is due entirely to Kristin. I feel that I was very well represented and I don't think I could have had a more pleasant experience or a more beneficial outcome from anyone else.

Jennifer has never given the impression of a stone cold Attorney. While she means business in the courtroom and works diligently behind the scenes, she brings her heart into her work. She Responds within a timely manner and makes herself available to address questions & concerns. She has fought long & hard for my family & there's no one else I would have. She has proven herself over and over. It is not often you might consider an attorney to be a trustworthy person (no jab intended), but I have felt my family was in the best of hands & I do trust her to have our best interest at heart. I feel confident with her at my side and know that you will too. If you're looking for someone to understand your case, to care about justice, & to get the job done, she is for you! You won't be disappointed.

Worse attorney in concord! I had consulted three other attorneys in the area who had known about Ms.Robertsons work ethics and had even said that she was friends with opposing counsels attorney! Which now explains the mess that has to be cleaned up by my current attorney who has recommended I file a complaint to state bar. She had failed multiple times to respond and or clearly explain what the status of my case was. She kept saying my case was moving at an appropriate rate. Well I had a child support hearing which Ms.Robertson had mentioned I did not have to be present for because of my work schedule. Well the day of the hearing she had taken it upon herself to not update me as to what the outcome was. No phone call, no email, no letter, NOTHING! Two weeks later Ms.Robertson had finally decided to respond to my emails and said what my child support payment was plus $1,100 of backed child support that she had failed to mention when I (the plaintiff) had filed the lawsuit initially which was a year ago. She was extremely unprofessional in her emails and few times I would attempt to discuss the matter with her over the phone. Eventually I had to fire her and hire a new attorney because opposing counsel had informed me multiple times that Ms.Robertson and opposing counsels attorney would discuss issues that were only meant for Ms.Robertson and myself. If you are a dad please look else where for an attorney. This attorney talks a good game but is a poor representive for single fathers who want to protect their children.

Mrs. Baker & her team of paralegals deserve 10/5 stars! I thought when I received a DWI charge my career and opportunity were over, I knew I’d lose my job, lose my house, & everything if I got convicted. I needed the best and boy did I ever find the best with Mrs Baker. My case was lengthy and very stressful, Mrs. Baker and her team of paralegals reassured me each time that they would fight and give it everything that they had! From the courtroom to consultations, phone calls, & life events Mrs Baker did nothing short than fight until the bitter end! In the end They Did It! There is no other representation I’d rather have behind me and fighting for me! My family & I are unbelievably grateful for everything they have done!

Attorney Allen-Boger helped me with my situation involving a claim against my employer. She made sure that I understood the challenges of this process from beginning to end, and all the legal documents and terminology that was used. This educated me on my case and I knew exactly what was being stated in mediation. If I had a question, whether simple or time consuming to answer, Attorney Allen-Boger, took the time to answer. Her availability put me at ease and showed me that she was genuinely concerned about me. Attorney Allen-Boger is an outstanding attorney, who goes the extra mile for her clients. She could have just drafted my documents and asked for my signature. No, before I signed anything, she made sure that I knew exactly what was being drafted and discussed it with me. For me, that was going the extra mile to make sure I understood what was going on with my case. I will definitely refer Attorney Allen-Boger to anyone who is in need of legal representation or consultation because I know that she cares and will go the extra mile for them, like she did for me.

Attorney Boger- Allen is a GREAT attorney! She has represented me twice. Both case was a VICTORY! My first case was when the company I worked for (twenty years) was in the process of trying to built a case to terminate me by sabotaging my work with false information. Attorney Allen fought on my behalf and won! She also made sure that I was reimbursed during the time the company had me on suspension My second case was when I leased my rental unit to my best friend who tremendously damaged my property that caused me over $5,000.00 in damages. Attorney Allen took my case and won and my ex. friend now has to pay for the damages. Thank you Attorney Allen for your hard work, dedication, and help on both of my cases!!!

She was professional at all times returned my emails , calls and made us feel comfortable and that she truly cared. I would highly recommend her and I will definitely use her again if ever needed.

Aimee is the best lawyer I've ever had contact with. Married three times with bad custody battle twice. She really is wonderful and NOT money grubbing and greedy. Once she even gave me advice without a charge. I truly admire her as a person and as a professional. If I'm ever back in her state and have a need she is the only lawyer I'd ever consider. I miss her, she's very refreshing in today's world of mostly greedy over- rated over-paid attorneys that are heartless.... she is a gem with a great big heart.

Totally incompetent and incapable of doing what you pay her thousands of dollars to do. Never returns phone calls and when I call her office, she is never there. I am constantly told to contact her by email but she never answers those either. She took my money and did nothing but agree to continuances for almost a year and then told me if I didn't pay her more money she would withdraw as my attorney and I could start over. She shouldn't be allowed to be an attorney and take someones hard earned money and do nothing for them. Never hire this fake!

Mr. Hastings is, by far, the best attorney in NC. After a long string of six attorneys and numerous consultations with attorneys in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties, he is the only attorney who can handle my aggressive opposing Charlotte law firm. Like other reviews, he is the "big guns" I needed to settle my case. He is a master in his element and works his deposition like an art form to build an inpenetrable defense for the case. He has patched the holes in my case which other lawyers left open for attacks. He is assertive and speaks up in court where other attorneys sat silently and let me fall. I was cheering inside when his quick thinking and assertive performance in court sent opposers running from the stand. He has an intimidating court presence and tells you like it is but if you do everything he says and pay on time, he will not let you down. He is the most affordable attorney in the Charlotte area because he and B.J. are an efficient team. He does not nickel and dime billing or drag out unnecessary calls and emails. Other offices have several staff members answering phones and charging for the same response that they have no answers. B.J. is knowledgeable and handles the correspondence while Mr. Hastings outperfoms the opposers in court. Save your money on consultations and look no further. I've already done the groundwork here. Mr. Hastings is the weapon we both need!

I retained Ms. Zacharias to handle my divorce, child custody and support, and equitable distribution. Ms. Zacharias has always been professional in her interactions with me. We discussed up front what would be covered by the retainer agreement and she never asked for additional compensation for the legal services that were covered by the retainer. I did pay a small additional fee to resolve a new issue that developed during the case proceedings, but this matter was not in the scope of the original agreement. My case was very difficult and some matters took a long time to fully resolve and I am grateful to Ms. Zacharias and her paralegal for their patience, professionalism, and endurance during the case proceedings. Ms. Zacharias is experienced and professional. This attorney was hired by my husband, at my request, to handle my affairs of our separation and divorce. When I did my initial consultation with her she told me her retainer fee was $5,000. (Higher than most in this area!). For the type of suit I was filing, and that she needed this amount "To be PAID UP FRONT", before she would start. Sounded reasonable so my husband's attorney sent a check to her, Stating that the money sent, was being paid BY THEM for my representation. After numerous consulting appointments and much confusion, I found out her retainer fee for the action I NEEDED to take was a $10,000. Retainer fee! NOT the Original $5,000. I was quoted and was now not Entitled to any more money from the opposing side! (Say What????) So, instead of suing, And, According to Her, was Forced into Mediations! Which was my husband's plan from the start! You See He Had Already Told Me That He Planned To Leave Me In Financial Ruin! He already put me through one bankrupcy! This whole, very stressful situation took 2 months and more than half of my retainer fee! I could only get through to her by leaving messages, with a part time paralegal, who could offer nothing more than, "I will give her your message". However, No matter how important my questions or Medical situation was, Ms. Zacharias would not contact me, or waited until Friday evenings, just before 5: pm. (Of course!!). This became even more stressful, since I had told her many times that this was unacceptable behavior, that I Needed to be kept informed! This problem not only continued but led to me using the very last of my retainer fees to go to mediation! Regardless of the fact that I paid the Additional fee for a meeting Immediately Before Mediations! Telling her that I could No Longer Afford Her Services!! AND that I only would ONLY be able to mediate for 1 hour! Because of the poor way she handled my case, I was given very little money for support And Had Enormous Medical And Dental Care Requirements! I Actually Received More Money From EMOTIONAL BREAK DOWNS, IN FRONT OF MY SON!! THEN She had gotten me in the 4 months she was my attorney! I was reduced to Pawning my gold and selling other positions JUST TO EAT!! The final blow came at mediation when After, I told her I Only Wanted My Medical And Dental Issues Discussed AND nothing else.....Ms. Zacharias informed me that "This Is How Mediation Is Done, WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS AND YOU WILL BE FINE!!" AFTER 5 HOURS of mediation, (AND, by the way, Ms. Zacharias did inform me, (she was Very Good at charging!), that I had enough retainer fee to go 2-3 hours!) .....AND STILL........NO AGREEMENT, SHE Informed me, that I had even GONE OVER my retainer fee balance, AND SHE WAS DONE!! Because I was so ill at the time, I Asked Her To: ASK THE OPPOSITION, IF They could pay for her continued services SO, I could At Least Walk Out With Some Kind Of Financial Support!! NOW GET THIS! SHE, got up, left the room and upon her return 15 minutes later......Told Me They, WOULD NOT pay to keep her there!!! So, I DID THE ONLY THING I COULD DO......I LEFT CRYING!! Well, I can tell you, I was NOT FINE, Like she Kept Telling Me!! IN FACT NOW, I had NO Medical or Dental Attention, (Even though, I was so ill, I was in danger of loosing my leg at the time!), AND......NO FURTHER REPRESENTATION.....As she used the balance of the retainer fee, that I had only hours before, asked for back, if I couldn't get some Financial support after just 1 hour of mediation. ....remember that was why I had the PAID meeting for PRIOR to mediation? AND LATER AFTER, Being FORCED TO MEDIATE ON MY OWN,.....I FOUND OUT THAT MS. ZACHARIAS *NEVER* ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL MONEY TO KEEP ME IN MEDIATIONS!! My conclusion is that my husband and his attorney got Everything My (soon to be X), PAID FOR!! I Most Certainly Have Gained Nothing From This Woman! My Advice, Look Elsewhere! Sheryn.

Mr. Kraus agreed to assist me with a complicated and time sensitive Guardianship issue. Having been appointed my sister's Guardian 2 1/2 years ago became more daunting when her Medicaid benefits were given a 30 day notice of termination effective 8-31-13. Reinstatement meant a hasty sale of real estate and dealing with two separate courts to gain approval. Mr. Kraus listened to my details involved, and immediately agreed to help me. Mr. Kraus kept me updated via email and phone throughout the many reams of paperwork, accompanied me to court in a Western NC county to appear in court, took complete charge to lessen my stress. I sincerely do not know how this could be accomplished so quickly, even the nursing home where my sister resides, could not believe how quickly Mr. Kraus accomplished the task....under 45 days. Without hesitation, I highly recommend Mr. Kraus and his staff if timeliness, attention to detail, and professionalism are critical to the issue.

Mr. Brannen was appointed by the court to represent me. I was very disappointed with him. Having had no need of an attorney in my 64 years, I had no experience with lawyers or the court system. My case was continued over and over again. He did not return my calls and I never knew what was going on. I did not want to or need to take up an inordinate amount of his time. I am sure that court appointed cases do not pay as much as defendant paid cases, but if he takes them, then he should allow honest representation. Not HONEST!!

On 10/27/2021 I was facing a criminal contempt charge. This was a direct result of following the instruction of Lancaster and St. Louis to file a motion to suspend visitation due to growing concerns regarding the immediate physical safety of my son while in his mother's care. As part of the motion to suspend, hundreds of pages of medical records had been subpoenaed and secured from to different mental health providers. This also took many billable hours to read through and organize. When these records were referenced during the hearing, the defendant simply stated that “both providers were lying and embellishing records in order to get paid by Medicaid”. LeAnn’s response was to stare blankly into space and after an awkward silence, simply moved on in her questioning. An accusation of Medicare fraud under oath apparently did not warrant any additional questions of LeAnn. This was detrimental to my case and resulted in the motion being dismissed. To add to this, a contempt charge had been filed in response for me not providing my son for visitation (due to the concerns outlined in the motion). I was quickly found guilty and the judge ordered from the bench that I pay a $500 fine to the defendant along with a 1 year criminal suspended sentence. This is where things became much worse. 1/ I followed LeAnn’s instructions and had a check out to her within days of that judgement. LeAnn did nothing with this for months, until opposing counsel contacted her about it and their next step was going to be to file contempt charges where I would have ended up with a 30 day sentence in jail. 2/ LeAnn’s lack of attention to detail and rushing through her work became quite apparent. The judgement was drawn up by the defense and LeAnn had her opportunity to make edits or “red line” and send back to counsel for the defense. LeAnn overlooked that the draft judgement did not specifically state the 1 year sentence the judge ordered from the bench and was entered without a duration; this meant my criminal suspended sentence went from a judgement of 1 year to the 10+ years remaining until my son is 18. I asked repeatedly for clarification on the judgement and was not provided with an answer. There were at least 7 emails requesting this information, all while remaining polite and professional as I have throughout my representation with this firm. Finally, LeAnn called me (which was very unusual) the afternoon of 4/15. LeAnn attempted to downplay the judgement and even proceeded to advise me that “well it isn’t really criminal…” when it in fact it very much was. As a final “farewell”, LeAnn filed a new motion related to child support and received an objection back from opposing counsel. In hindsight this followed a pattern of Lancaster and St. Louis filing motions that simply went nowhere. After receiving a copy of the objection as the attorney of record representing me, the next day LeAnn emailed me to withdraw from the case entirely citing my “dissatisfaction”. To make matters worse, LeAnn failed to provide me with a copy of this objection, as she is required to do so as the attorney of record at the time of the objection. The truth of the matter is that LeAnn had dug herself a significant hole. Instead of stepping up and taking responsibility, she ran, leaving me to clean up her mess. When you look for legal counsel, look for someone who will be accountable for their work and that will stick with their client. The representation by Lancaster and St. Louis overall was sporadic, sluggish and made themselves necessary based on their own repeated missteps and oversights. If you are a current client, it may be time to take a closer look at what “work” is being completed. As a potential client, I would recommend you look elsewhere for legal representation as there are plenty of quality attorneys in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
