My dire divorce situation took a very strong, positive and productive turn when I hired Holly Mattice. I finally felt like I had had some control and there's no doubt this is because Holly and her team actually cared about my case and lifted me up from the dirt I was shoved in by very unfair circumstances. If you want justice in your case, Holly and her team will make sure you get it, and on top of that, they will kindly and firmly educate you on the process so you can be a leader in your case and truly change your life for the better. I cannot thank her enough. Thank you Holly

I consulted with Mr. Regner for criminal defense and he unbiased laid out my options for me. I felt very comforted with the honest defense he advised me on. I beleive that attorneys do not come around this often that care for their clients as much as Mr. Regner did. I highly recommend him.

After spending 10,700 Ms Garrett told me to negotiate my own settlement with my ex husband. All she had to do was help me enforce the divorce decree. She could not remember my name or anything about my case when we spoke but charged me for everything. I got screwed twice, once by my ex and then by Ms Garrett. Do your homework before thinking about hiring any lawyer, don't hire them based on 5 star reviews. Check out their track record first or you might as well throw your money in the toilet.

Linda Garrett is a gem! I was nervous about the process, I was worried about the quality of service and uncertain about the cost. I called Linda's office and scheduled a consultation. During our complimentary consultation, which she offers for 10 to 15 minutes, as an opportunity to explain her services; I could sense her level of integrity. She explained the process and shared my options in depth, she even gave me some suggestions of what to do and not to do when communicating with the courts, in event I chose to represent myself. I tossed and turned the night after our free consultation because I knew I needed a lawyer, but I was worried about the cost. After obtaining Linda's rate, I researched for hours trying to determine the going rate, and I discovered that Linda's rate of service is definitely the norm within the law industry. Since I had such a good feeling about her, I scheduled a one-hour consultation, where I was able to share the details of my case; at that time, I felt affirmed that I needed to retain Linda. Before the call was over, I asked Linda if she would represent me, and she said "Yes!". What a relief, I thought. Note: She was on time for both calls! And her Assistant is super friendly and accommodating. We synced our schedules, I sent the required paperwork and payment, and about a few days later, we spoke again by phone to complete the court documents (Family Law). It was an AWESOME experience, Linda completed the paperwork with me on the phone, she asked me questions and shared what she was typing as she went. After the paperwork was done, Linda sent me a copy to review and provide any edits, if I had any. I had no corrections, everything was flawless!!!!!! The next communication was when Linda emailed me to confirm that the paperwork had been filed, and the next step after that was our court date. On the court date itself, we met each other 15 minutes early to check-in. I was so happy to see her! Her appearance was very professional, and her energy was kind and supportive. While I was so anxious, I am certain that if I didn't retain Linda, my experience would have been much different; and probably not as promising. The day went smoothly, and Linda's defense granted a dismissal. Linda Garrett is Trustworthy, honest, caring and I can tell that she is passionate about serving her clients to the highest of her ability. She is not in this field purely for the money, she cares, I didn't feel like a number, I didn't feel like her attention was divided, she made me feel like NUMBER 1, like her highest priority! Linda was friendly with the court staff, has a calm confidence about herself, and more than anything, I felt like someone who REALLY cared about my circumstances was there to support me. I am so grateful for Linda. I am hoping I won't need to go to court again, and if I do, without hesitation, I will reach out to Linda, hoping she can fit me into her busy schedule. If you are looking for a great attorney, look no further, Linda Garrett is all that you need!

If you are looking for an attorney that gets results, Rhoda Chandler is the best in Solano County she is knowledgeable and powerful in the courtroom. I am so grateful for having her in my corner, she has protected my children and other children that were associated with their father. Their father had multiple children with multiple woman, DV cases, he was a drug dealer and gang affiliate. This case was a long ongoing fight and Rhoda put her everything into this case. If it weren't for her, our children would be in danger. I owe everything to Rhoda Chandler. She set all of the children up for success and I personally can't thank her enough. I finally can sleep at night knowing that all of the children are safe. Thank you Rhoda <3

In the realm of family law, it's not easy to find a good and trustworthy divorce attorney. To be frank, it's very obvious when a lawyer is just in it for the money, and want to take advantage of your bad and desperate situation in life. (Not all of us want a divorce, and many of us are just trying to salvage what we can financially, and our time with our children.) I've seen attorneys see your bank account, and try to take you for every dime. I've seen divorce attorneys do whatever they can to create discord, animosity, and conflict between the parties involved, knowing that the longer it takes, and the more they're involved, the more money they make!!! A large office staff doesn't necessarily mean they're a good attorney, it just means they have a lot more people to pay off of what they charge you!!! Rhoda Chandler is NOT one of those attorneys!!! If you're in Solano County, want an attorney who is honest, has integrity, will cut through the BS, and will attempt to handle your case quickly and efficiently, then this is the attorney for you. Rhoda Chandler charged me fairly, was genuinely personable, and attempted to handle business in the best possible way; without seeking conflict, but at the same time quickly willing to stand up and fight for her client as necessary. I've recommended Rhoda Chandler to a number of co-workers and friends, and will continue to do so.

I originally hired another attorney that claimed to be “the best in bay area”…If not the entire state of California. Unfortunately, they just took $10,000 from me and did absolutely zero. (okay they filed a summons and petition and that was it…for $10k!)! I found Miranda and she agreed to take my case. The amount of work that she did was 100 times more than the other attorney and for far less than they would charge! She helped me through the most difficult time in my life. When all hope was gone that I would get anything out of this divorce…she was right there, making sure I did. Going through a divorce is so emotional for everybody involved. To have someone that you know will truly represent you and your best interests, and help you through it all is what you need!! Miranda, is your person!

Bottom Line: If you need an attorney for family matters, this is the person you need by your side! Background: My case was one for the record books. It was a 10 year battle and it involved constant back and forth between me and my ex, coordinating across five states, and countless questions from me when my ex violated the court’s orders. Miranda fought for me every time my ex tried to lie about the situation. Being in the military, I left CA shortly after filing for divorce. When my ex abducted my kid, Miranda jumped into action, and had secured custody for me within a month. When I returned from overseas she coordinated with the second state my ex ran to and enabled me to get my son that day. Miranda is the consummate professional and was honest with me about how best to move forward. You can trust that she has your kids best interest at heart. Without her aid, my son would be dead or would have disappeared to another country. Moreover, she stood ready at anytime when custody changeovers took place. This was because my ex is notorious with breaking the rules. You will feel like you are her only client. Every time I called, emailed, or made a request it was responded to within hours with an answer, or suggested way ahead. She is without a doubt the best attorney, and person, I have ever met. If there is one takeaway it is that if you are honest with Miranda, and follow her advice, then you will not fail and you will not be disappointed.

This guy will jump ship and sell you out. He does not put the effort into your case. He is shiesty and only about your money. You will mostly deal with his paralegal mellisa who is nice and well intentioned or Jose who should not be working for any attorney. I was kept uninformed, and my responses were filed at the last minute. I never felt justin was truly on my side. Instead I felt he was completely flaky, unprepared, and would handle my case on the fly. I was never even briefed for my hearings. when I received my files , I wasn't even aware of certain aligations against me. The guy would flat out lie about his actions. I think he's capable as long as you have plenty of money to blow. I would not recommend him as a family lawyer nor is he worth what he charges. He now mentions parental alienation on his sight. As a former client I guarantee, your child is not a true concern. Take your money to someone who is genuine. This guy should be reported for mal practice. He is a complete disappointment.

I had an awful experience with this guy. He absolutely did nothing for me. He does not know anything about legal guardianship because he still had to research how to file and process a petition for legal guardianship. All that he cares about is the retainer fee, after that you are on your own. If you want to lose your case, hire this guy.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
