Mary worked with me over several years through a very complex high-conflict custody case with unique legal challenges including difficult opposing counsel and multiple jurisdictional problems. Her ability to research and present statutory and case law strengthened our case until eventually the opposing party had little to argue in court that she could not competently counter with established precedent. I would highly recommend her for high-conflict custody cases or unique cases presenting legal issues not normally seen in juvenile and domestic relations court.

Throughout 2013 and 2014, Rachael Hammer has done an excellent job with my divorce, support and custody case despite extremely contentious and difficult circumstances. The custody case started with the mother trying to limit visitation to twice per month which led to a hearing where Ms. Hammer successfully argued for joint custody.
Ms. Hammer guided us through months of negotiations and litigation to a highly successful outcome. She has stayed with us in the aftermath, taking late night and weekend phone calls, through pick-up explosions and police involvement.
I can not say the case has been pleasant, but Ms. Hammer and her legal assistant Katrina Smallwood, have remained a calm and steady presence no matter the circumstance. Ms. Hammer is knowledgeable about Family Law in both DC and Virginia, reliable, and professional. She works well with Clients and opposing counsel.

After handling my own estate arrangements & will, I called on Richard to review and then handle my interests in the settlement of my Mom's estate. I am SO thankful that I did. Somewhat unusual arrangements complicated by naive executors and shady real estate brokers -- that took quite a bit of legwork to work-out -- were superbly resolved by Richard.
Richard's calm demeanor & knowledgeable explanations coupled with sharp insights resulted in successful resolution of a situation that could have easily spun out of control. His willingness to go the 'extra mile', with support from an excellent staff, and his updates allowed me to shed the worry I was experiencing, and feel confident that my interests were well-represented. Even potential adversaries in this whole experience were complimentary of Richard's work!

I do not recommend Nana Babington as a lawyer and I would rate her 0 if I could. She has failed my citizenship case, even though it was an easy one if applied at the right time. Because I was away from the US for 10 months during the past 5 years, I needed an attorney to give me a legal advice on when I should apply for my US Citizenship. So, on October 2019, I scheduled a PAID telephone appointment with Ms. Babington regarding this matter where she advised that I was already eligible to apply for US Citizenship. Further, I made the FULL payment (both the application fee and attorney fees) and she filed my case. Unfortunately, when I arrived at my interview I understood that being away from the States for 10 months I have broken the continuous residency requirement and as a result my case will be denied. The denial letter clearly explained that in case of absence over 6 months one must have some ties with the USA (either have an immediate family member residing in the USA, or be employed in the USA, or retain full access to his/her US abode). Unfortunately, I could not meet any of those requirements and Ms. Babington was aware of this. Upon receiving my denial letter, I called Ms. Babington and she promised to assist me to re-apply for citizenship. However, during this process she put me on hold for 2 weeks, then did not reply to my emails for days and refused to answer my phone calls. Later she emailed me saying that she was very busy with trial cases and that she did not have the time for courtesy cases. I emailed her back asking why she considered my case as courtesy since the case was failed due to her negligence and I have already wasted $1500 and 1 year of my time during this citizenship process and was not planing to waste anymore. She called me humiliating and blocked my emails. I have emailed her from a different account asking for a refund so I could find another attorney to work with. I have been patiently waiting for her to reply for OVER ONE month and haven't received anything to this day! Very unprofessional. So, long story short, please save your time and money and file your cases with a trusted lawyer. I am attaching her email as well as the part of the denial letter in my google review.

We discussed a probate situation where my brother had recently passed. He agreed to take my case and provide me with all the necessary paperwork to close the probate process. Unfortunately, after several attempts to contact to Sam, when he DID respond, he said he was only a coach, and that was it. So when I approached him with questions about my case, he kept responding vaguely, "I'm your coach." After several attempts to reach some understanding, I realized I needed to go with a real lawyer to remedy the situation in a timely manner. Best of luck.

Years after I made the terrible decision to retain her services, I am still coping with the consequences of her horrible job. She will go after your money. That is her chief interest to the point that she will make deals with the opposing party to get the case closed once she realizes she financially drained you. Of course, those deals do not benefit you and your children but she doesn't care. I have also caught her lying. So let me give you a couple advices if you still decide to retain her services:
- make her sign a contract that stipulates a maximum fee after which she would have to work without charging you a dime. This was an advice I received from another lawyer who had personally witnessed the outrageous bills I was slapped with.
- have all interactions written or recorded. As I mentioned earlier, she will lie to make you look delusional.
I know I will never get justice for the harm she has caused my children and myself but I am hoping I can help another desperate individual from making the same mistake I have made.

IF I COULD GIVE NO STAR, I WOULD
As a woman who suffered DOMESTIC VIOLENCE with 4 children whom two are special needs at the hands of my soon to be ex-husband, I sought an attorney who would care to fight for me and my children through out my contentious divorce case.
Pilar was referred to me so I contacted, consulted and hired her to represent me. Not only was she unprofessional not responding to calls/emails from me but Pilar, without my permission, turned my case over to Garret who is incompetent. My Pendente Lite hearing in October 2021 was continued because forgot to serve my soon to be ex husband.WHO FORGETS TO SERVE DIVORCE PAPERS AND REALIZES A WEEK BEFORE TRIAL??? I have contacted PIlar numerous times saying I did not want Garrett handling my case anymore after this major ball drop. Pilar continued to ignore me and allowed Garret to screw up my case. The PL hearing was rescheduled to December 3,2021 giving my ex husband the opportunity to hide assets. Once we got to DEC 3, 2021, Opposite Counsel asked for the case not to be heard because Garrett FAILED to respond to their offer with a counter offer. ANOTHER MAJOR BALL DROPPED BY GARRETT. The judge granted the request to opposite council and then, it was rescheduled to the 17th of Dec 2021. The worst part....My ex husband was not served with discovery nor did they draft one prior to the hearing. My ex/abuser whom has a law degree took this as an opportunity to lie about losing contracts from his business and got away with lying about not having income. As a result of Garret not being prepared to court, the Judge, had no choice to believe my ex didn't have money...because there was no proof from our end to support that he did...since GARRET AND PILAR FAILED. I ended up getting below the guideline support for the kids and I since my ex "had no money." Garret filed the discovery after the PL hearing. By this time, it was little too late...especially I was depending on being awarded legal fees since I was a stay at home mom and primary care giver to my four children.
I finally FIRED them at this point. Had Garret not missed serving him in OCT 2021, my ex would not have had the time to get away lying to the court about his income since we had his financial docs at that time.I emailed PILAR many times that I did not want him on my case but she ignored me. Also during the PL hearing, I got to learn that he was NOT attentive as he misrepresented and said the wrong things to the judge despite me emailing him and correcting him.
