Ms. Parker represented me in a civil matter. From day one, I knew my case was in good hands. She was very knowledgeable regarding the laws applicable to my case, took time to educate me about the process from filing the lawsuit to entering the courtroom. Ms. Parker always kept me informed about the status of my case and showed compassion when the wheels of justice turned slower than I expected. Unlike other Attorneys I have dealt with in the past, Ms. Parker was more "human" than most, while ignorant to the laws, Ms. Parker never made me feel that way. She exercised patience, when I had none, she was calm, when I was off the chart, and she treated me as though I was the only client with a case. If I am EVER in need of the services of an Attorney in the future, Ms. Parker will definitely be my choice and I have recommended her to family, friends and colleagues.

I used Edwards & Edwards recently and they were more than helpful during my case, which was perhaps the most stressful thing I've ever gone through. They did a great job and kept me informed about the status of my case. Their fee was reasonable as well. If you have to hire an attorney, I would definitely recommend using this firm.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Wow!! This office is dedicated.. I’m Super impressed how fast they responded. I sent a email to request a consolation and Within 20 mins my phone rang...Mind you This is 7pm on a weeknight. Well AFTER offices hours... SO Amazing. I’ve been super stressed emotional , very overwhelmed with my situation.. The Issue is with my special needs child and her teacher/school. I was lost on what to do I didn’t know my rights.. Didn’t know what I could do next. Then I spoke with Mrs.Mumford. I couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience. Mrs. Mumford was wonderful so easy to talk too, Very sweet. I told her all the drama and I could hear her concern. I felt she whole heartily sympathized with me and genuinely cared. She didn’t rush me or make me feel dumb because I didn’t know or didn’t understand. Instead she explained it again. She Let me ask a millions questions. With so much patience. She Made sure I had a good understanding. She advised me with some things to do. Told me if I had anymore question or concerns about anything not to hesitate to call her back. Just WOW. Im truly blown away. I’m so very thankful for her kindness. And the respect she showed me tonight. I finally have some much needed understanding and relieved. I can’t say Thank you enough to The Mumford’s for their grade A+ services an for their time. I definitely will be using and referring for any legal issues I have in the future. I sure hope after all the money I spent I get exceptional service. Some of my concerns were addressed. I just need a quick divorce and for it to be simple. Wish it wasn’t so pricey though. I am a Minister and felt God led me here, so I felt I should have gotten a discount, especially since I prayed over them and even did a little preaching during my appointment. I think they see how God is leading me & preparing me for divorce so I can be with the woman I love, who was sent straight from God. I’m praying for a quick & speedy divorce before my wife finds out what I’m doing and mainly because I took the money for the divorce from my daughters savings account and now my daughter can’t buy her 1st car. Boiano & Boiano understands that my happiness and my needs must come first, being I am the man of the house. I just hope they don’t ask or expect any more money from me. I don’t know if my 16 yr old daughter will let me borrow anymore.

I called Roland looking for guidance on using an online divorce site, and he quickly informed me that those are not always reliable and offered his services for a very reasonable price. He is very direct and to the point and makes one of the most difficult situations as easy and seamless as possible. He was always responsive with questions either via email, phone calls or text. I would highly recommend Roland, if you are looking for as close to a no fuss, no muss, lawyer as possible.

“Overpriced and undelivered” is the best way I can describe my experience. Lacked the detail, true concern, or follow through you would expect from a professional attorney charging exorbitant fees whom claims to be the absolute best. Interesting to note, as I met with additional attorneys in my area for help with the same case .. none were surprised by my experience with him.

Brenda Stiles and her entire staff are amazing. Without going into detail about my case, I will say that Miss Brenda and her entire staff fought for the best interest of me and my child. Brenda was empathetic and proffesional, but ruthless in court when needed. They were very prepared in court. After watching my Ex's husband's attorney fumble and grasp at straws in court, I was convinced I had hired the more seasoned and knowledgable attorney. I highly recommend Brenda Stiles. Her recommendations were spot on. I am more than delighted with the outcome and will continue to use this attorney when needed.

Ms. Stiles has handled three cases for me. She knew exactly what to do, and the right time to do it. We were in court frequently, and there was never a question as to her professionalism or her expertise. It didn't matter if we were in Circuit Court or in Juvenile Court, Ms. Stiles did her job expertly.

My first experience with Ms. Stiles was watching her in court on a motion against the attorney I had hired for another case. She tore him up in court, and never raised her voice. She had three cases on that day, and in each one she did her very best for her clients. The next time I needed a lawyer, she was the one I called. Several times, I called her, saying I was tired of fighting, and just to let everything go. She was patient with me, even though I see now I was acting stupid. Sometimes, I guess we need somebody to tell us when we're wrong. I stuck it out, and got everything we were asking for, and then some.

I went to Mr. Nimmo for needed help for divorce. My wife had left me high and dry after 10 years, and hired a pitbull, man-hating lawyer for herselg.fShe left me without telling me, took thousands of dollars, and half the assets in the home. I was going through depression, and have no family in TN. I needed a lawyer who was fierce, intense, thorough, and reassuring. Mr. Nimmo was none of these. He rarely if ever answered my calls, E-Mails, or texts, and it took almost a year for a very simple divorce to take place. I know it was simple because even my ex-wife wanted it simple. He was not willing to do anything I asked, and paid him to do. My ex-wife violated at least 3 court orders. Not once did he file for a hearing on this. I would not recommend this attorney for anything. One time, he even accysed me of being a day late to my appointment when he clearly knew it was on Thursday (not Wednesday, as that is my church night, and I would never schedule an appointment on Wednesday). When I got to his house, he said, "You're a day late." Are you kidding me!? He also was very unsympathetic of my situation, and even was going to have the final decree written to favor my ex-wife!! Ugh!! Do not use this attorney.

Never received an itemized bill, argumentative with client if you don't agree with here. Does not understand when an opposing attorney is bluffing. Can become emotionally labile at the drop of a hat. Broke client confidentiality. Took my retainer, never sent me an itemized bill. Very naive, can become extremely emotional. Run from this "attorney".

This attorney really doesn't know what she is doing. I was never informed of what was going on. She never seemed to have a plan. We were always on the defense in court. She never asked my wife any questions when she was on the stand. And after 3 years with no closer her law office informs me that my 2 inch file had been accidentally thrown away by cleaning crew or lost. Now I am starting over with a new attorney. Please beware.

DO NOT HIRE! All your intake will be done with her dad Terry, and him and Samantha will tell you different things. Very confusing to begin with. Be careful when retaining her for an uncontested divorce. All she did was meet me briefly twice, (she was late both times) and she filed my divorce paperwork for me (which I was charged for ontop of my retainer fee) and when my husband countered, I had to beg to counter back. She IMMEDIATELY wanted me to pay her an additional $5,000 contested divorce fee. She did very little work at this time. You’re supposed to receive 10 hours of work with your contested retainer and I met with her a total of 45 minutes and she filed over paperwork. That is not 10 hours. I kept my emails few and brief and she said she did too much back and fourth with me which BLEW MY MIND. She later told me I owed her $7,000 to move forward if I did not agree to my husbands counter and she revoked her counsel. She is the daughter of 2 lawyers and there is a difference in earning your success and it being handed to you!

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
