We love Pat! As Nevada residents we had a very complicated guardianship case, and was blessed to have been referred to Pat by Prepaid Legal. Our case was in Kern County, however, since we were turned down by numerous attorneys in Kern, we had to go to LA County to find an attorney. Pat took our case with no hesitation, was kind, compassionate and knowledgeable and won our case! She was fantastic about her price, and travel time. I highly recommend her. Honest, kind and funny as heck! Thanks again Pat!

I highly admire Sue for her dedication and unselfish choice to work in the public system. She has the ability to go private and earn much more monetarily. She is straight forward, honest and will work hard for you. She always took my calls and emails, and believe me I sent many. Her and her staff (Yolanda) were always prompt in getting back to me. You can absolutely trust Sue Dell. I did everything she told me to do and Today I have my two beautiful angels at home with me full time. They are both thriving in school and in the Honors program. I was completely overwhelmed after I was hit last year in a horrific car accident. I talked to a friend of mine who happens to work for a law firm in the personal injury field. Turns out he works for the Parris Law Firm. I called Parris the following morning and they immediately got the ball rolling on my case. Gabriela was my main point of contact throughout this entire ordeal. Gabriela is professional, easy to get in touch with, extremely friendly, caring, knowledgeable, and always went the extra mile for me. Parris took care of everything, my totaled car payout, medical bills, time off from work, and they got me an amazing settlement. Parris Law Firm, and Gabriela, will always be my #1 go-to should God forbid I ever need their assistance again with a personal injury situation. I cannot recommend the Parris Law Firm enough!! I'm very Blessed to have had them on my side!!

As a process server, I’ve worked with many law firms, but Candace and her firm truly stand out. They are extremely professional, organized, and efficient in their communication. Candace was clear with her expectations and provided all the necessary details to ensure the job was done smoothly. The world’s best attorney I appreciate every time and effort she has done with my case I’ve been working with her for the past three years. She is the best attorney I could even ever ask for what these bad reviews is not true. She works with time patients and everything even our fees, she’s the best attorney, anyone can ask for the state of California I would choose her over anyone with my case she has done a tremendous job. She gave me patience and made me understand my case no matter how hard it was it was new to her, but she was the best attorney she figured it out and made sure to happen. I would not ask for a better attorney. All these bad reviews is not true at all. None was soever. She follows the law. She knows the court system well and if she don’t, she will figure it out and take her time with you including her feet is wonderful. She takes her time and everything I say again she’s the world. Best attorney I could ever ask for I wouldn’t trade her for nothing she’s got sent. God made her for a reason and gave her her job for a reason/career , I couldn’t ask for Attorney couldn’t God said I love you. Thanks for being my attorney. Love sharice

Wow! I’m not sure where to begin! I had the pleasure of spending two years with Candace Jones as my attorney in a Family law matter. This Attorney is extremely professional, informative, a beast in the courtroom, and a great person overall. I’m thankful that God led me to find her on Google. Best of all she is local! Great for men or women in need of an attorney. I am someone that appreciates Google reviews, but I also understand everyone doesn’t value the same wonderful qualities that Candace Jones brings to the table as an attorney and in general as a person. So, when making your decision while looking for an attorney, consider that everyone is not honest in their online reviews when it comes to the negative ones. However, I can tell you from my actual experience that she takes the time to fully understand the details of your case. She will do what she needs to do, and be where she needs to be, and handle what she needs to handle, as far as what was contractually agreed-upon. She understands the sensitivity of each case and takes her time to understand the details of each person’s individual situation surrounding their case. She is on time, and very smart, and great at what she does. I highly recommend this attorney to anyone. Be truthful in the details of your case and tell her everything so that she can help you. Take a breath…. And choose her! God bless

The attorney was dismissive and persuasive when it fit his schedule. He pretended as if he was concerned but at the end of the day I was mislead and misrepresented. Do not use this attorney. Do your research and you will see. Give your money to someone that is willing to work for you. The paralegal I had was amazing just not the attorney.

I had a bad experience with Chellei Jimenez, whom I retained near the end of 2021. She deviated from our initial discussions and altered the agreed-upon objectives. I received unprofessional emails from her and her staff, particularly Claudia, who made numerous mistakes in filing paperwork. Despite my repeated attempts to explain the nature of the domestic violence I have been dealing with for years, my concerns were not adequately addressed. In fact, her paralegal Claudia found it laughable, stating "Welcome to California". Another employee she claimed to have fired after she aggressively tried to make me sign papers full of false information about my finances. Ironically, I now have a restraining order against the mother based on the same evidence I previously presented to Chellei. This same evidence I presented to Chellei was one of her reasons in requesting a motion to withdraw. Our judge granted the restraining order without a hearing, indicating that my papers and concerns had merit. Unfortunately, my daughter has been diagnosed with an emotional disturbance disorder, after the same events I expained to Chellei kept happening. Chellei's approach exacerbated the situation, increasing conflict and casting me as the antagonist. She advised me to dismiss serious issues, although they eventually led a judge in California to issue a restraining order against the mother. Despite successfully fighting a domestic violence restraining order about three years ago, Chellei's decision to request a short-cause custody trial, which I believe was a critical mistake, has had long-lasting effects on my relationship with my daughter. Our honorable judge is now questioning why it took me so long to bring these issues up. The delay was due to Chellei's tactics, which ultimately reduced my custodial time with my daughter by 80%. Two other attorneys have notified me of her mistakes. One of them is very familiar with Chellei as a colleague. After I sent her an email with evidence of the abuse, she downplayed it and filed a motion for withdrawal, claiming the information was irrelevant to my case. (It was used as an exhibit and restraining order was granted recently with another attorney) After two years of law school and several consultations, I've been validated in my belief that her tactics hurt my case tremendously. I hope we can work toward a remedy and implement additional ethical guidelines for attorneys who claim to be specialized and certified in family law. When retaining an attorney who claims to be certified as a family law specialist with decades of experience, especially when it involves your children, you should have peace of mind knowing your investment is in capable hands. Best wishes to all the dedicated mothers and fathers who simply want to be involved in their children's lives. I invite an open dialogue to explore her actions while representing me and also to help validate my review. I have never wrote an in-depth 1 star review until now. I hope this post helps a single mother or father out there in making an informed decision.

If could give 10 star if I would. Ms. Chellei was always busy, but that never stopped her to call me back with any questions and/or concern I had. There was times where attorney was in a different county 8hrs in court and she always called me back same day, even if it was later in the day. Everyone in the office was great even when i was super overwhelmed and might have sounded off towards them at times. That was due to my complicated case and was feeling as there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Ms. Chellei and her team not only made me see the light shining bright at the end of the tunnel, but handled my case with care, respect, dignity as any legal representative should. I am very, very impressed with their service and will refer anyone in need. I read a lot of comments about the charges, but all i have to say that this office is providing a service with a price that was presented at the time you signed a client representation agreement. Any service given, on the case from the office is not free. I must give credit to myself as well as i was ahead of the game on providing all paperwork in advance, which made the presentation from the attorney more efficient. Attorneys will never be able to represent a good case unless you provide documents and communicate with them thoroughly. Client -Attorney relationship is a tango dance, they must dance/work together. ***Thank you Team Jimenez Law Group!***

Mr. Symonds has been an excellent attorney. He has worked very hard even working on the weekend to handle my complicated, time consuming, case. I have had two other attorneys and have been around six other attorneys and I have never seen anyone work so hard and care so much for his client as Mr. Symonds. His communication is beyond excellent. He communicates through text, email, and the shocking thing is if he isn't in court or with a client he answers his phone calls. His customer service is exemplery. I researched over ten attorneys and found that Mr. Symonds met my criteria to represent me in a child custody and divorce case. He has been honest, detail oriented, professional, and charges a fair price for the amount of work he does. If you have a tough case like mine and you someone to fight for you then you want Mr. Symonds on your side.

My experience with Mr. Symonds was a complete nightmare! He was found via text message by opposing council. Once in his office, I found out that they are close enough to know the opposing council’s husband’s birthday by heart. Clearly this raised some red flags right from the beginning. However, proving things like that are very difficult in Court. Mr. Symonds, who was assigned to be the minors attorney, did not interview the minor's therapist who was involved with the case for the previous 4 years! Instead he kept telling me his own story how he got full custody of his own kids via a 730 evaluation. He clearly, in my observation, is still very angry at his ex who now has passed away and was unable to disassociate his past history from my current case. He also showed bias towards my ex, who was a former Marine just like Mr. Symonds. In my opinion he prides himself in his fee of $150/hour and he told me that now, since he is a minors attorney, the Judges have to listen to him, where they didn’t before. Mr. Symonds did not follow up with me about the case at all. I prepared a binder to show all of the e-mail communication between me and my ex. Mr. Symonds did not even read it, he seemed to have already sided with my ex as soon as he discovered they were both former marines, completely unprofessional! At one point he told me that I did not “please him”, this was behind closed doors of course. I contacted a paralegal in regards to filing a formal complaint with the bar, she said that filing the bar complaint would only put him through some ethics classes. Thankfully he is off the case now. The 730 evaluation was completely in my favor. Mr. Symonds incompetence and bias caused many people to suffer. It took a 730 evaluator who had 30+ years to step in to resolve the case. Mr. Symonds has very little experience. Please save yourself heartache and stay as far away of him as possible.

You will not find better representation. With two prior divorces, I have retained a few of them. Never have I had a better attorney, representative, and counselor than Eric Symonds. His legal ability is superb. He enjoys his profession which keeps him current and extremely knowledgeable. He is sharp, with an eye for detail that many lack. I won't waste your time and simply say; I am a single father to a three year old boy. I hold Legal and Physical Custody with an excellent parenting plan in place. I am a man awarded “Full” Custody of his toddler. How often have you seen that? Eric Symonds is my attorney.

Tamara Binns knows very little about law. I actually don't know how she has a license to practice. She represented my ex in a family law case. She was unprofessional, catty, dishonest, and also dishonest with him, which is insane because he was her client. During court she demonstrated that she was also pro-abuser and anti-woman. Needless to say she continued the case many times wasting both of our money, and then she lost. Royally. She is a piece of work and should be disbarred.

Tamara states that she is a criminal defense attorney as well as family law and car accident. I hired her to represent my husband and she did absolutely nothing for him except kept asking for continuances. Never was there any motion made or did she object to anything that was being said. I have felt that I paid this woman to send my husband down the river. After he took the plea deal of 19 years that he, she told him that it was a good thing that he took the deal because the last 2 men she represented ended up getting life. I think that maybe she is an ok attorney in the other areas of the law like in family law, which she practices in more often, but she is definitely not worth hiring if you need her to keep you or your loved one from doing any kind of prison time.

I would strongly advise against retaining the services of Marc Hodges as your attorney. My experience with him was extremely unprofessional and disappointing. Marc consistently displayed a lack of punctuality, often arriving late to meetings and court appearances. Additionally, he failed to submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner, causing unnecessary delays and complications in my case. Marc's billing practices were also concerning. Despite quoting a flat fee, he frequently requested additional payments after the fact. Communication with him was frustrating, as he was unresponsive unless payment was involved, often taking days to reply to messages. On one occasion, I had to contact the bar association in order to retrieve important documents from him after I declined his proposition for further representation. Furthermore, Marc's lack of commitment to representing my best interests was evident. He seemed more focused on his own agenda rather than advocating for what I believed was right. In family law matters, this lack of dedication can have serious consequences. It is worth noting that any advance payments made for court services were not refunded, even if the services were not rendered as agreed upon. Marc also conducted business without a formal contract, allowing him to alter terms as he saw fit. Despite the presence of Christian symbols in his office, Marc's actions did not align with the values they represent. His inconsistent behavior, suspicious usage of multiple vehicles, raises further concerns about his professionalism and reliability. In conclusion, I strongly recommend seeking legal representation elsewhere to avoid the frustrations and disappointments I experienced while working with Marc Hodges.

Marc Hodges was late to our first meeting & consultation. He charged me $1,500 to file an application that he knew would be denied. He did not make the one phone call to the contact given that would confirm that he could not assist me with my matter. After conveying my dissatisfaction towards his services, he promised to file a motion, per request, and appear in court with me just once to make things right. Motion was filed with my signature forged on two documents. He did not show up for court. Court date was rescheduled. Called Mr. Hodges prior to 2nd court date, accused him of lying, deceivingm me, & being dishonorable. I requested a refund of $1000. He agreed with my accusations & said he would only refund $500. That's unacceptable was my response. Marc Hodges did not show up for court for the 2nd time and has not returned any of my calls nor text messages. His refund offer was unreasonable due to my lost work wages, my wasted time, & lack of effort on his part. I had to represent myself in court and although legally advised that at the end of the day my caae would remain the same, I just wanted mr. Hodges to appear in court and represent me as promised. Every statement written here is true & verifiable upon request. I've made peace within and forgiven Mr.. Hodges for his actions and lack of action. I have also decided not to proceed with anything that I was advised to do regarding Mr. Hodges. I'm aware that good business breeds good business. And word of mouth and referrals bring forth more business. I was referred to him by a very good friend and this is what happened in my situation. I would not refer him to anyone that I know. Good luck to potential clients and Marc Hodges as well.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
