Other than wanting me to "go with the flow" instead if challenging CPS allegations which I fully regret, I can't blame the lawyer, only my own decision. Mr. Desmond is very professional and an outstanding attorney as well as his team of lawyers.

Autumn helped me through a high anxiety divorce from a narcissistic ex husband. She has a very personable approach; I felt heard and supported the entire process. She keeps it very real; fights like a bulldog but also let me know when I needed to reign it in; she was very down to earth on what the judge would and wouldn’t like for the best outcome. I had consulted with 3 other seasoned attorneys, and felt pretty defeated by the lack of connection; When I found autumn, I was honestly hesitant, as she was newer to the firm but instantly connected and she blew my expectations away with her meticulous depositions, financial facts down to the cents, and the heart she pours into her work. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking top-tier legal representation.

I contacted the Law Offices of James H. MaGee after talking to another attorney about my financial difficulties. The difference was night and day. I was confused about my options and swimming in an avalanche of information which only added to the confusion. My life had been reduced to sleepless nights and a steady stream of phone calls from my creditors demanding money I didn’t have. I was looking at losing my home and staring at a very dim road ahead. The Law Offices of James H. MaGee looked at my situation and took the time to answer my questions and to explain the Bankruptcy process to me. I went from being hopeless and terrified to having greater understanding and a reason to be hopefully. If any of this sounds like you and your situation I strongly encourage you to give them a call and make an appointment. There is no reason to live life paralyzed with fear any more… There is hope…. I highly recommend them!

I had reservations about filing bankruptcy. So I did some research to find the best possible attorney. I went to his consultation and was very pleased and comfortable discussing my case. I hired him that very day. He and his staff were very respectful, courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. I would certainly recommend Mr. Maghee as your choice if you are overwhelmed with finances and can't get a grip on them. If I had to do it all over again, I would return to his practice again! Allen

I highly recommend Melissa Denton at Ascher & Denton Family Law. While I reflect on the last year, with the changes, challenges, and court battles, I hope that Melissa Denton knows the monumental impact she and her staff made on my family’s lives. Our current reality would look very different right now without her support and guidance. I cannot say enough how grateful I am for her and her team, who were all professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and best of all, personable. They have worked tirelessly with me to fight for the best interests of my family! If you are unsure who to call for matters of family law, call Ascher & Denton; you will not regret it!

There is not enough I can say for all Melissa has done for me and my children. I hired Melissa after having 2 other local attorneys. I won’t mention their names, however I don’t feel with them they always had the best intentions of my children involved. From the start with my consultation, Melissa always had not only my protection legally /finamcially at the top, but the protection of my children first and foremost. It had taken me three years and two attorneys before Melissa came and finished my case with the amount of money she told me she would. She actually finished my three year long case in just 6 months. If you are from an abusive relationship and are wondering where to go next and who could help you finish a long horrible process, I would definitely consult Melissa to help you. I do believe she is an angel for me and my kids...there just aren’t any more words or better way to put it. Thank you Melissa Amy and the M&Ms

Ryan was the only attorney who listened enough to actually help me define what I needed to do. Other attorneys I sought out didn’t listen and just dismissed my situation as too niche, and to go to the Bar Association for a referral (which they don’t do, by the way). Not only was he efficient and effective, he was soooooo incredibly kind and educational. Please go to him if you are the curious type and want to understand legal matters because he’s got a knack for clarity and extremely patient and sensitive, too. He made me feel supported and empowered. Thank you so much, Ryan!!!

I am a single parent with sole custody of my 16 year old son, we relocated to Wisconsin after I secured a position as an engineer. Between our move, my new job and my son's new school going through a divorce from 2000 miles away could have been a major stressor with the wrong attorney. Because of Ms. Murphy's efficiency, courtesy and accessibility I was able to concentrate at work and relax at home without the added stress of the divorce. Laura Murphy is very thorough and knowledgeable and in the courtroom she exemplifies her professionalism through preparedness, integrity and ethics, as in my case she even tried to help explain the law to my ex-wife who was representing herself. I also wanted to mention that Laura's paralegal Christy is a joy to work with, she is very pleasant, personable and kept me well informed.

I contacted Laura extremely worried about my career and the potential implications to my life. Feeling overwhelmed, she quickly gave me the confidence to approach this matter in the correct way. Her guidance was good & timely throughout the criminal and DOL process. She helped me understand each step and how she was going to proceed with my case. I saw how she deeply understands the system from her well-rounded knowledge (formerly working as a local prosecutor). It was great to watch her put her plan into action. Christy (her legal assistant) quickly answered my questions (asked the DOL) or would follow-up with Laura – this put me at ease during a stressful and complex process. I truly appreciated Laura’s guidance. I was glad to have her and Christy on my side. My outcome was better than I expected with the court and DOL. In the future, if I have a legal matter, I would contact Laura first and I highly recommend Laura.

25 Jan, 2018 by Jesse
About three months back I hired Sarah Beth to help me handle a particularly difficult collections agency that I was having a lot trouble dealing with. I had been trying to reinstate my suspended license to fulfill a deal with the local county court. Unfortunately, I owed said collections agency an unknown sum of money due to delinquent court fines from some time back, and had to take care of the fines before the Department of Licensing would allow for reinstatement. Over the course of a few weeks I had contacted the collections agency by phone as well as a handful of times by email, and although I had requested a statement of my balance on multiple occasions, I never received anything back from them. Instead, the only feedback I could get was essentially that I just needed to pay them what they said I owed, and only a verbal confirmation of the total amount. I was told that they weren't able to negotiate court fines, and when I tried to inquire as to the name of the person I was talking to, or if I could speak to a supervisor, I was informed that anyone there could help me and that I needed to just start a payment plan with them to rectify the situation. I really felt like they weren't taking me at all seriously, and were willing to play a waiting game in the hopes that I'd just give up and fork over some money. As soon as I hired Sarah Beth, she and her staff got right to work contacting the collections agency and attempting to negotiate with them. Amazingly, they still gave her a good bit of run-around as well as a few misleading assertions, but it wasn't long before she and her dedicated staff were able to get a concrete statement of what was owed. The numbers seemed unnecessarily high, and the interest and extra fees were not explained. It took some time, but after numerous contacts with the agency she was able to talk them down to about half of the total debt, and secure a written contract expressing the terms of repayment of said debt. I am so happy with the work Sarah Beth and her team did for me, I have literally no complaints or criticisms. She had thorough and helpful advice when I asked questions, kept up frequent correspondence via email, and was just all around knowledgeable and professional during this trying and stressful time in my life. Not only would I hire her again, but I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone having trouble working though a similar situation. Her rates are very fair, and I get the impression that she genuinely cares about her client's well-being. To close, I'd just like to say that I don't think I would have been able to navigate this situation by myself. The outstanding work of Sarah Beth and her staff didn't just save me money; it helped me through what was honestly a scary and uncertain time. Trying to work through the issue alone was very daunting, and the learning curve was pretty steep concerning my rights and what I could do in this situation. Today I have my license back, and I can drive my four month old daughter around in our boring minivan with a big old goofy smile on my face, and to me that's simply priceless. Thanks again Sarah Beth, and thanks to your very dedicated staff and the associates at Connolly Tacon & Meserve!

His services are one of a kind. Better than our family member who is an attorney. He is also very respectful and cares about our feelings. He puts things in perspective. I always refer him. All of them said he was useful and they were all satisfied with results. I am very thankful to finally have found an attorney that I am confident in. In 2015 I entered into a twenty month contract for the purchase of a horse. The final payment date of August 4, 2017. March 2017 due to financial issues with my business I was going to have to sell the horse, negotiate an extension of payment, or return the horse. I sent a letter to the owners laying out the possible options, as well as getting permission to sell. I was contacted by their attorney. It was pay the balance on or before August 2017, yes I could sell the horse under specific conditions. If not they would file suit for Breach of Contract. I was unable to get the horse sold. By July the finances changed an I would be able to make the payments but would need to extend the deadline. I contacted Mr. Kover for advice and his professional help. He explained the process of this type of lawsuit to me in layman’s terms and came up with several options. He then took over the negotiations and I am making the final payments with an extended deadline. Mr. Kover was professional and answered all my questions. He made himself available. I will be keeping him as my attorney for my professional as well as personal legal needs.

We paid this law firm to hurt our reputation, we were not professionally represented and we have contacted the Bar Association to file a complaint. We hired this law firm Clint Morgan - Morgan Hill Law in Feb. 2023. On April 25th, 2023 our hearing was again continued by Morgan Hill to 5-24-2023. That gave Hilda Pietri months to prepare for our hearing. As I heard nothing from Hilda, on 5-4-2023 I emailed their paralegal Tammy Elliott asking if we should provide Declarations. Tammy responded and said Hilda will instruct you, but start doing your own Declarations. I did and on 5-9-2023 I provided Tammy with our own Declarations to file. On 5-18-2023 Hilda, 6 days before the hearing, frantically started working on our case and reached out to me for the Declarations not knowing Tammy had them and Tammy didn’t give them to her per Hilda. Hilda realized she didn’t have the Declarations, she’d never requested them from us, and she asked me to send them to her again in which I did. At the hearing on 5-24-2023 nothing was filed on our behalf by this Law Firm. Hilda was not prepared for the hearing and knew nothing about our case, not even our names. On 5-24-2023 we were advised by Hilda our hearing would be continued again and we were told not to appear. That same day, 10 minutes before the hearing we were called and told to HURRY and login to Zoom and appear, the hearing is going to be held. We rushed to login to Zoom. Hilda was not prepared, she knew nothing about our case, not even our names. As opposing counsel was prepared and had filed all their Declarations, they destroyed us and Hilda “giggled” unprofessionally throughout the entire hearing. It was traumatizing and horrible. The judge chastised Hilda Pietri for not being prepared and told her she’d had time to prepare and the Judge said this was common for this Law Firm and then dismissed the case we had filed after the Judge had nothing to view on our behalf and the other party’s counsel called us “Hypocrites and Stage Actors” while Hilda giggled. Hilda Pietri was dumb founded and began crying and then walked out and quit her job with Morgan Hill Law Firm that day. We came into Clint Morgan’s office and met with him the next day 5-25-2023 and he specifically said, and I quote, “Hilda quit, this is horrible you guys, I apologize, don’t worry I got this, I’ll take care of you, moving forward there won’t be any further costs for this case.” Clint said, “We’ll fix this you guys.” He said moving forward to deal directly with him and they would “Refile”. Due to Hilda Pietri not being prepared, the opposing party turned around and filed a Petition against us being empowered by our attorney’s lack of professional legal representation. After we provided all requested documentation to Clint Morgan and Hilda Pietri, within 2 weeks Clint Morgan went back on his Word and began charging us for this same case. Throughout this entire case, which was just a Protection Order, we were not only stressed about the case, but we were more stressed as we had no professional legal representation. Hilda Pietri struggled to communicate with the Judge, with us, and with their attorney. We were humiliated.

I spent three years in consultations with well over one hundred attorneys before I found Morgan/Hill. Everyone else told me that my divorce would take too much time, money or it was un-winnable. My husband had left me after I sustained head injuries, and had brain surgery. Everything was gone! Accounts emptied and a business I funded all in his new g/f name. The law simply didn't fit my case. Morgan/hill found laws that did! This is one smart law group, I got everything back. Affordable, reliable and amazing knowledge of the law. I handed them one of these most convoluted and complicated divorces Washington State had ever seen, they handed me back my life. They are, SIMPLY THE BEST!

My wife and I retained Mr. Rawnsley for a very delicate family law matter. We had been falsely accused of child abuse by my ex wife and an unsuccessful defense of the accusations would have been catastrophic for our family. For reference, I have worked with many attorneys in the past 10 years dealing with my ex so I have an unfortunately large amount of experience in assessing the quality of legal counsel. Mr. Rawnsley was very professional, highly informed about the relevant statutes and had a good understanding and relationship with the judicial officer (something that is very, very important). All of my previous counsel lacked in some area or another. One may have been less competent, where another may have not had the quickness of wit and depth of understanding of the law to successfully represent my interests. I can say with total confidence that Mr. Rawnsley was the complete package. He was, by far, the best attorney I have ever hired for a family law matter and it isn't really close. I am grateful for his efforts and would recommend him to anyone else.

During the first year, I felt that the firm was doing a great job going to bat for me to help me avoid a "pro se" nightmare that I was facing. However, even after the entrance of the divorce decree and final orders almost a year ago, the opposing party still decided to interpret things her own way. A year ago, I warned my lawyer that the opposing party intended to take some actions related to federal taxes. The firm either ignored what I said or chose inaction on the matter, and to this day claim not to have any knowledge of the tax situation despite email chains to the contrary from early 2021. I have now lost out on 2 years worth of tax refunds totaling more than $10,000 because of that one single action taken by the opposing party, even though it is contradicted by what is written in the final court order. No action taken in this instance, but everyone knows if I, the father, had done the same thing to her, I would've been dragged through the coals by the court. Early November, 2021 - I write an email to confirm pickup dates and times for Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. I am told I'm wrong on both and that I won't be getting to see my children until three days after the day Christmas break begins. I re-involve my attorney to help settle things. It goes to mediation, doesn't get resolved, the day of her lawyer finally confirms with my lawyer that I'll be getting them two days late and "take it or leave it" essentially. The parenting plan was violated when those two visitation days that should have been mine were withheld from me. Opposing party used various excuses and reasonings, but the bottom line is they broke the parenting order. I asked my counsel to hold her accountable, asked if there was a contempt motion we could make. It has been almost two months since those days were lost, and I have been attempting that entire time to get a contempt motion filed against the opposing party, but nothing happened. I tried asking every few days if something had been done; nothing had. It was always "Oh they didn't answer yet" or a message from opposing counsel that said "I just forwarded this to my client, let's see what she says" or "Oh sorry, I didn't see this until three days after you sent it, let me send it to my client". No motion was ever filed, and I have yet to find out if I'm ever going to get my two days back that I lost due to her choices. I pleaded with my counsel to do something. Take action. If it had been me as the father who had done what she did, she and the court would have already shredded me apart. I begged over and over for almost a month, and finally said if something wasn't going to happen soon that I would retain new counsel. That's when I received the professional equivalent of "fine I quit". Complete with self-congratulatory claims referring back to the previous work done from a year ago. To clarify with a mechanic analogy: "The car ran great the day I fixed it a year ago, I can't believe you're upset now that something else broke and I haven't fixed it yet!" If they had done what I had asked, I wouldn't have had to replace them. Two months of back and forth. Hours and hours billed for emails and phone calls, and not a single legal action filed despite several written "threats" to opposing counsel about the intent to file a contempt motion. It was as if the mere mention of the motion would've been sufficient to inspire the opposing party to mend their ways. But it wasn't. And it isn't. By the time I had hired a new lawyer, it felt as if the opposing party had two lawyers and I had none. Don't expect them to explain the reasons why behind the advice they give you. I learned more in 24 hours with the new counsel than I did over the last two years with this firm.

PWR law is the worst I would recommend finding better legal help. Patrick Rawnsley is a terrible money hungry attorney that doesn’t get good results for you if you’re not wealthy and willing to pay out your life savings. Starting he charge me a $5000 retainer fee then he burned through it in less than a month after only appearing in court for me one time. Supposed to help me with my parenting plan And charge me another $2000 retainer or he would drop my case, he burned through that and then came up with an additional $3000 of more unjustified charges. He was my attorney for less than 3 months and only appeared in court for me one time. He was supposed to help me get my youngest son into our parenting plan but was unsuccessful in all. He was a waist of $7000 and of course he falsely charged me an additional $3000 then sent me to collections with new charges with a total of over $6400. He would set up in person meetings with me his legal aid then charge me almost twice as much for each meeting. When I asked if we could just meet with the two of us he would still charge me on the backend to discuss the case with his legal aid which would be more expensive he said. 4 years later and I’m still trying to dispute what he’s done to my credit. He didn’t even care that I was broke and using student loans to pay him to help me be in my kids lives. All of this is true and I would highly recommend you use a better attorney that won’t screw you over when you are already suffering. Please tell me how an attorney can charge a poor client over $13400 but only show up to court one time and represent them for only a couple months and leaving their client in the same situation when they came to him.

I repeatedly asked for receipts for their time and did not receive it. The court told me to take it up with the Bar. Seriously, thurston county family court told me to complain to the bar about this establishment. I was directed by the judge. I only got 1/2 a day to review paperwork yet they defended giving opposing council 42 days. Who does that? They said it was standard for morris -sockle to only give 1/2 a day for review. Steer Clear! Even thurston county court said morris-sickleis wasting the courts time.

After surgery at a local hospital, my mother was left with the loss of feeling and mobility in her legs. Our family met with Mr Morris for a consultation and he put many of our fears to rest. He educated us as to the process and after a reasonable period of time got us a settlement that was fair and moreover one that compensated my mother and family for the damages that had been done. I am forever thankful to Mr. Morris and would recommend him to anyone who has the same type of problem with hospital of health care provider.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
