Specifically her work for me had been in conjunction with her representing my wife in a very messy and scary divorce from her previous husband, a sadistic narcissist who was stalking, harassing, and slandering her at every turn. He would threaten anyone who helped my wife with legal action, which included trying to get a protective order against me to keep me away from her and our two minor children. Laura represented me in that matter, and it was quickly and summarily dismissed.

I wish I could fully convey my thoughts about Scott. Scott took on my case midway through the process when my previous attorney quit my divorce. I found myself in a really bad spot having to find a new attorney that was willing to go to trial with a judge that was not in my favor, and against my ex’s attorney who was free. Scott had good graces knowing that I came from an attorney that honestly loathed him, and he took up my banner in the middle of his heavy case load. I cannot tell you how indebted to him and his team for making the impossible possible.
By the time my trial came my case had been completely revamped. His partner Mckail worked diligently on my exhibits for my case and spent the time to really prepare all my witnesses before trial. We walked in to court with a better case than I had in the last year, and Scott’s acumen in the trial was shrewd and well informed. His arguments consistently met with the approval of the judge, and he deftly handled my ex’s attorney when they tried to sneak in testimony that was underhanded.
In the end I got what I fought for two years for, my kids and the equal right to be involved in their lives. My children and I are the direct benefactors of Scott’s skills and help. I absolutely give my recommendation to Scott as an attorney worth working with.

Scott Weight is a phenomenal attorney at Esplin & Weight! I first came to him years ago for a divorce. Every experience I've had with him has always been a positive one. I really looked around for the best defense attorney I could find, came across Matt Jube on the consultation I liked how he had spoke an how he seen things similar to me, I was skeptical on who to hire at the time and went with him, case was over a year ago but he did an awesome job at times I was concerned that things would change as most attorneys say alot of things an down the line it changes an they don’t stand on what they are saying, but Matt came through to the end and it was consistent with a lot things he was telling me! Mr Dickinson and his office were amazing! I am embarrassed to say it was shocking what an emotional time this was for me. I felt like I had no control of what was happening to me and my daughter, and how to best save my future. Grant made me feel like he truly cared what happened to me and my daughter. I was in a custody battle for my children for a year and a half. Nothing was happening with the lawyers I was using and they were very expensive. I hired Kristy Hanson to take over very late in the proceedings, I was nervous it might be too late to change lawyers but I needed someone to fight for my children, too much was at stake. Kristy jumped right in, she understood the situation, she was available when we needed her, and returned calls promptly even after business hours. Took the time to explain everything. She formed a plan and carried it out. With the previous lawyers I had to constantly check in on them, give them ideas, I felt like I had to tell them everything they should be doing. The only thing you could count on them doing is sending you the bill every month with a follow up call to pay promptly. Kristy was the opposite. She would call me with updates and strategies. In a few short months after I hired her she turned everything around and I got full custody! Kristy is knowledgeable, level headed, she can be as tough as she needs to be and expertly knows how to handle judges and other lawyers. I honestly feel she fought for my children like she was fighting for her own children. Cherry on top, she was significantly less than my previous lawyer. I would highly recommend her.

My both cases are nearing to Fact Discovery deadlines and I am getting anxious. This time, I need to be very careful in choosing the right lawyer because he is going to be the last, after my 2 previous lawyers. I spent reading reviews and profiles everyday. I don't usually write reviews, but thanks to Spencer Thomas, I'm a father who now has custody of my four children. Initially, Spencer met with me for a FREE consultation. I had already met with other attorneys, but I felt like Spencer listened to me. He took time to become familiar with my situation, and then presented several options or strategies on how to proceed. He kept me informed throughout the whole divorce process. The only reason I marked 4 stars rather than five, is because I felt like he could have responded to my emails a little bit sooner, but still responded to every one! If you are a father going through a divorce, Spencer Thomas is your guy.

It's been a while, but it's probably worth sharing my experience with Marilyn. Better late than never. I went through my divorce back in 08. I hired Marilyn, who told me to put an order on my (now) x wife, because I told her she had punched me in the face on multiple occasions and pulled a gun on me once. When I returned to Marilyn's office to read what they had drawn up, I wouldn't sign it because it wasn't truthful. There were things added I had never mentioned. I had to pay Marilyn more money to have her assistant Grant change things back the way I originally said it happened... We ended up at the old 4th District Court and as a group of us were sitting in a waiting room before court, Marilyn asked everyone to leave the room except me. She then told me to lie in court and when I told her I wouldn't, she told me I was "too difficult to work with" and basically dumped me right before court. The order was dropped and I was left with a massive bill, over $10k. Anyway, her and Ron Wilkinson, my x wife's attorney, were a couple of mud slingers who clearly only cared about getting paid and doing the right thing. I would never recommend either of those two, unless you're into that bs.

I also heard they Marilyn was a great attorney. I was married for about 28 years, was hoping I would get at least 28% of my ex’s half million dollar a year income, I didn’t. I did the acre of yard work by my self, was the one who cleaned the garage and had no maid for a 5,000 sq ft home. When I said I did everything I mean it. But, I guess I was not worth 28%. She did not put in the decree his documentation of some the percent of the alimony I am suppose to get so now I just have to take his word on my portion, so frustrating obviously he is not an honest person. He purchased a brand new bmw 2 weeks after the divorce, had plastic surgery, has been on multiple vacations and is building a big brand new home while I am trying to keep my bills paid and flip credit cards to gets points everywhere to be able to take my kids on vacations. I am older, have no skills due to being a stay at home mom and taking care of our family, so I am unable to get a decent job. Marilyn is a nice person but, I don’t feel like I got what I should have. I also feel like if we would have met and had a plan before mediation it many have worked out better. She made me feel like I was already a winner going into mediation but, did. It feel like one after.

I was terrified of my ex, because he was trying to manipulate me in every possible way. Our marriage was dysfunctional. I asked around for referrals for a divorce lawyer and Marilyn’s name came up. I called right away and was scheduled in. I just felt good about it. It was only after I hired her that I heard she was the most intimidating and honest attorney in Utah. She knows what she’s doing and strives to be fair and reasonable. But she takes no BS. My ex tried to take our kids, tried to say I was mentally unstable, and tried every way possible to get out of child support. He’s still trying, over a year later. :) I was an emotional wreck and Marilyn was there for me, every step of the way. When, during mediation, my ex brought up for the first time that he thought I was too “mentally ill” to have our kids, I started panicking. She held my hand and told me firmly that she would never let that happen to me. I relaxed, and for the rest of our mediation, I calmly watched her SLAY the competition. She did not back down. I ended up getting more than I thought I’d ever win. To the point where I actually felt bad for my ex. I expressed this to her and she told me that what we’d won was fair, and that I was going to need it. She was right, and I still consider hiring her as the best thing I could have done during my divorce.

I retained Matt for two reasons, his prices were reasonable and I was broke. To make a long story short, in a divorce with no assets, the entire process, including sitting down with my ex and her lawyer on three separate occasions, absolutely nothing was accomplished. In the end I went from being a FT father to seeing my kids on wednesday and every other weekend. Matt argued for nothing in my defense, and that worked out just the way you would assume it would...I got screwed. In the end we paid for a 3rd party to do the work (for 200.00) that Matt should have done. Still can't figure out how a guy like this keeps his license and makes a living at what he does....some people were born to work in food service, Matt should be one of them...

This attorney avoids returning phone calls, text messages, replying to emails, and has a tendency to disappear when you need help.
This attorney is quick to believe non-credible people and non-credible information about his client and jump on the bandwagon / false narrative without getting the other side of the story or prematurely before getting the proven facts.
If you communicate to him how you feel things are going with his "services" and improvements you would like to see, he is quick to dismiss your concerns, act in a rude manner by calling you a name and/or make false assumptions about you based on no evidence. He doesn't like getting constructive criticism.

I was in an extremely messy divorce process with a spouse who was making false allegation. I went from having supervised visitation to joint physical and legal custody, defended me successfully in mediation, he got me a good deal in spite of the negative experience a divorce is. Trent Cahill seemed like a nice professional guy when I first met him; however, during the process of him representing me, there were many times where I felt he was representing the opposing party. He tried pushing me to make decisions that would help the opposing party. He would sometimes send time sensitive emails later than I would expect something of time sensitive nature to be handled. I tried to communicate that I would prefer to receive emails sooner. But I continued to receive emails late. I would recommend Trent Cahill if you want to spend a lot of money for subpar performance and results. I would not recommend Trent Cahill if you want to be strongly represented.

Marla was my attorney for my divorce. My ex husband told her that I was cheating on him, and she believed him and swayed the entire case his way. She dragged her feet and things took forever to get finished. She also refused to put in the decree that I could get his wages garnished through ORS. I had her assistant put it in last minute without her knowing. If I hadn't done that, I never would have seen a penny of child support. All that because she felt bad for his fake sob story.
