I had the opportunity to work with H.K. Sawyer, a specialist in debt collection law, and I have been extremely satisfied with his services. Mr. Sawyer demonstrated exceptional expertise in navigating the complexities of debt collection, providing clear and effective strategies that yielded positive results. From our initial meeting, Mr. Sawyer was thorough, professional, and attentive to every detail of my case. He clearly explained the legal processes involved and set realistic expectations, which was incredibly reassuring. Throughout the entire process, Mr. Sawyer maintained excellent communication, keeping me updated on progress and promptly addressing any concerns or questions I had. Mr. Sawyer's persistence and skill in negotiating with debtors and handling court proceedings were evident in the successful recovery of multiple outstanding debts owed to me. His commitment to achieving the best possible outcome was unwavering, and his approach was both ethical and efficient. I highly recommend H.K. Sawyer for anyone needing assistance with debt collection. His professionalism, knowledge, and dedication to his clients make him an outstanding choice for handling even the most challenging debt recovery cases.

Mr Sawyer was the perfect person for the situation I was was facing two citations, the second one being a misdemeanor. I am not familiar enough to represent myself in this matter. Even though at times, I was clueless about the process of the proceedings. Mr. Sawyer handled everything with flying colors and was able to get the misdemeanor dismissed and paid the fine on the first citation. He walked me through what was going on and even answered emails in a reasonable time. I thank you very much for helping, save my livelihood. Your friend, a truck driver.

I went to Mr. Sawyer for two different cases. He stayed in contact and updated me on everything that was going on with both cases. Both cases were resolved in the best way possible and I really appreciate everything that he did for me. If I ever need a lawyer for anything else, I will definitely give him a call.

When I was faced with the impossibility of prevailing in a head to head battle with a seasoned DA. With absolutely no legal knowledge, support, or experience facing the nightmare of unethical conduct and retaliation for not tucking tail against misconduct and collusion by my own attorneys. I felt my words were being ignored or misinterpreted in the numerous pro se motions i drafted as I learned the legalities and procedures. This man did what no other judge or attorney had the backbone to do, he believed in me. I filed til my time ran out all while being in exile from the injustice that had been inflicted by unethical men and their weaponization of the law against a poor defenseless but determined individual. When one attorney answered a grievance i filed this year he informed the state bar an order existed in which compassion and clemency was granted 2years prior and my sentence and probation had been terminated. Justice did ultimately prevail for an injustice that cost me nearly a decade of my life and did a number on my health all bc of a dirty DA that was caught red handed concealing proof of my innocence but he would never admit it like a man. Thank you RVP you are a truly noble and honorable man the justice system needs men like you and the discernment you possess to bring judgement and most of all compassion to this evil and corrupted world. Youve changed my life forever and for that i am truly grateful and humbled. SRoach

His name was originally pulled out of the phone listings for a small issue. After looking over my sons divorce papers, he told me I (POA) needed to hire a good attorney. When the time came, I hired him at the price he quoted. He failed to mention further costs if more was to be done on the case, which I declined due to financial issues. At his recommendation my son followed to the letter what Mr. Mills said to do. In ONE (1) years time, I have received ONE letter of communication, and it was incomplete!! Mr. Mills has not stayed in contact concerning my sons case. I will call and leave a v/m only to have no response... ever! I've had to send and resend my POA at lease twice, Why??? I don't see how he's gotten so many great reviews! This is insane. No excuse for an Attorney to never return calls. I had to give at least one star, but in my opinion, he doesn't deserve that! No excuse AT ALL for this type of so called professional behavior... no matter who the client. If he's taken my money, he should do the job and stay in touch!

Hired Mr.Mills to help me with my custody case still in process. So far I have no complaints about the communication level I have received of this attorney and his paralegals Logan they are very polite and kind. If you're looking for a lawyer for a better communication and understanding this is your guy Mr Mills. So far I believe that Mr Mills and Logan will do their best to fight for your outcome to be favorable as much as possible.

If you get your feelings hurt easily, if you expect immediante replies, and if you expect to see him at your appointed time then Renzo is not the lawyer for you, BUT if you want someone who is direct and honest, someone who will give you their undivided attention when you are in their office-even if it makes others have to wait, someone who will dilgently and thoroughly search out your unique circumstances to make sure every angle is covered, then I would highly recommend Renzo Wiggins. He has a refined way of balancing compassionate with tough "love". He may not always tell you what you want to hear, but you can count on him to tell you what you need. He stepped on my toes a time or two and I stepped on his, but in the end I believe we have a mutual business respect for each other. He is not an easy person to make contact with, but when you do it is worth the effort when he handles your case.

After we paid Shawn Bible, his interest in our case was drastically reduced. At first. Before payday. He was all about everything he was going to do to help us. After the cash was paid. He lost interest. I just don't believe he had the knowledge in family court he made out to have. The other attorney had nothing. Yet he still mopped the floor with Bible. It was pathetic really. He simply didn't do his homework. Not like the other attorney did anyways. This is why hands down. As of now. One star. I'd give zero if I could. Being in a small town corrupt court doesn't help matters any either. Maybe you should learn to play golf with the judges like all the other local attorney's so as to gain equal favor.

Originally, I retained Mr. Bible because my grandson had been taken into custody by DFACS. Mr. Bible had my grandson placed with me quickly. I now have legal custody of this awesome little guy. I ran into a legal charge I wasn’t guilty of and Mr. Bible saw me through it without a spot on my record and I never even had to miss work because of it. All I had to do is provide him with the evidence he needed from me. He handled my divorce. I hear horror stories about divorces. It only took about 15 minutes of my time and was a done deal. Mr. Bible, I truly believe, will not take someone/a case, unless he believes in them/it. But if he will take your case, you can know that you’re in good hands and trust he will protect your best interests. The one time through it all that I had to take the stand, he made sure that I knew what to expect and how to handle the situation and I was not intimidated at all by the other attorney nor the judge when the time came. And to top it all, Mr. Bible did not break my bank. I’m not wealthy and he charged me very little for his services compared to the enormous amount of positive changes his representation had on my life. I am very blessed that he chose to represent me and I will want him to handle any and every legal need I ever have in the future, as well as any legal needs of my family.

If I could give zero stars, I would. We were out of state visitors in 2009 to the area when my husband was charged with DUI and child endangerment. We had been in an argument while parked at a gas station. Our daughter was asleep in the backseat. Police officers who happened to be nearby came to make sure everything was OK and they wanted my husband to take a breathalyzer test which he refused. He was arrested and charged and I bailed him out the next morning. We went back to our home state and I consulted with several attorneys over the phone before choosing Mike Giglio. He seemed very professional and knowledgeable. When the court date approached we flew to the area and showed up at the courthouse only to see a sign on the door that the courthouse was closed and all cases for the day had been postponed until further notice due to weather. Mr. Giglio failed to let us know anything at all, and when I finally did reach him, he was very nonchalant about the whole thing and did not care that we had flown all the way from Washington for nothing. The appearance was rescheduled for a couple of months later, and we flew back once again. The judge reviewed footage from body cams and gas station cameras, he heard my testimony, and he heard my husband’s testimony. The judge acknowledged that my husband had not been pulled over for DUI and that we were parked in a parking lot and that the officers had not witnessed my husband driving, and he also acknowledged that there was no chemical proof of intoxication since my husband refused the test. He decided to dismiss the DUI charge because my husband did pass the physical field sobriety tests given and because there was no chemical proof of intoxication, but he said that he was going to keep the charge of child endangerment because we had been arguing in the car in her presence even though she never woke up at all during the argument. We had no idea that in Georgia a child endangerment charge is an automatic DUI charge, so when a person is charged with DUI and child endangerment, in reality there are TWO charges for DUI because the child endangerment charge has an automatic DUI charge with it. So the original DUI was dropped by the judge but the child endangerment charge stuck. Mr. Giglio told us that we were good to go, and we were very thankful to him for his work. He never told us that we were not free and clear of any DUI charges. My husband still had physical possession of his license, but two and a half years later when he went to renew his license, he found out that his license had been suspended for all that time because of a child endangerment DUI charge. I called Mr. Giglio to find out why everything wasn’t cleared, and when he finally answered my call after multiple attempts, he nonchalantly told me about the child endangerment conviction having an automatic DUI attached to it. It didn’t make any sense to me that the judge threw out the original DUI and kept the child endangerment charge simply because we were arguing. Since he didn’t see enough evidence of intoxication to convict my husband of the original DUI, then why did he keep the child endangerment charge knowing that it had a DUI attached to it? Mr. Giglio should have advised us of this fact and should have appealed it or pushed to have the child endangerment downgraded to reckless driving. At the very least he should have told us because my husband was driving around on a suspended license for two and a half years. This guy was so flippant and blasé about the whole thing, and he had the audacity to try to make me feel stupid for not knowing this stuff, when that is what we hired him to do!

I would not recommend this lawyer. Run in the other direction! He was more focused on being friends with the other lawyer apposing my case. He didn't keep up with my case. He made a bunch of promise and held up none of them. He didn't return emails and basically just wanted the money. This is the worst experience with a lawyer I have ever had.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
