With many attorneys, they cause the problems so when the solve the problem, they look like the hero. In the case of Dave, he just gets the job done without any drama. Buying a home is stressful enough. You do not need your attorney adding more stress. Dave gets you to the finish line in a professional way.

I can’t say enough about Mark Gabriel and his professionalism, passion and ability to get the job done. Not only is he an amazing attorney, he’s a great detective, reading between the lines and finding the BS presented by the opposing counsel. He put his heart and soul into my case and protected my child and her rights. We appreciate it more than words can ever say.

Simon Law firm really helped me out. Back in May I did a really stupid thing and got a DUI and blew a 1.6. After them reviewing everything and me getting an expert witness that they recommended they ended up getting the breathalyzer thrown out. I was looking at 1 year suspension and an interlock on my car. I received a 3 moth suspension and minimal fines. They also got reckless driving, careless, and misuse of lane thrown out saving me thousands and a lot of points. There must have been 10 court appearances and I only attended 2 and they went to the rest without me. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

Britt Simon handled my very serious criminal case with professionalism, expertise, and in the end, amazing results considering the very serious consequences I was facing. Never having been in trouble with the criminal justice system prior, I was nervous, apprehensive, and admittedly scared. Mr. Simon assuaged my fears, took a very intelligent, calculated approach to my case, and worked multiple avenues to ensure my liberty. If you're unlucky enough to ever find yourself in a similar situation, be a good friend to yourself and contact Britt Simon immediately. I'm only here writing this review right now because of his tireless efforts.

I've had the pleasure of working with both Jayne and Cynthia on couple of real estate transactions in the past few years. Jayne was highly recommended by a good friend of mine several years ago. Both Jayne and Cynthia were always on time and attention to detail, made me feel like a priority throughout the entire buying process, and provided solid legal advice. I felt so comfortable and confident with Jayne and Cynthia representing me since 2009 that I decided to use their services to buy house and for all future transactions and I strongly recommend both Jayne and Cynthia to all of my family and friends. It was an absolute pleasure for me to write this review about Jayne and Cynthia.

This review is to respond from the claims Mr. Olsen put in his response regarding my previous review. Firstly, I would like to address his assertion that he was responsible for the dismissal of my case. It is important to clarify that the evidence proving the falsification of evidence by the Prosecutors office (not the federal authorities) was discovered by my wife and me. Mr. Olsen did not uncover any of this evidence. Additionally, Mr. Olsen mentioned that he would not handle my lawsuit, despite the fact that during our initial meeting, there was extensive discussion wherein he clearly indicated that either he or another member of his firm would handle the lawsuit. It is worth noting that my ability to pursue legal action was hindered because Mr. Olsen failed to file a tort notice with the state, causing the expiration of the statute of limitations for my case. Furthermore, Mr. Olsen's statement regarding the time it took to convince the prosecutor of the falsified evidence is inaccurate, as the evidence discovered by my wife was unequivocal. Moreover, every aspect of my case was mishandled by law enforcement, including the illegal execution of the search warrant. It appears that Mr. Olsen was collaborating with the prosecutor to mitigate the consequences of their errors. Notably, Mr. Olsen abandoned me when I sought assistance in retrieving my property, which had been unlawfully seized during the search warrant. To date, I have not received my property back, and Mr. Olsen has provided no assistance. His exact words, "I was hired to get your case dismissed, not to get your seized property back," were disheartening. It is my belief that when retaining an attorney for case representation, all aspects pertaining to the case should be within the scope of their responsibilities. I assert that Mr. Olsen's conduct is not only indicative of legal negligence, but also raises ethical concerns. I am prepared to substantiate all of these claims with indisputable evidence. Mr. Olsen, the truth will inevitably come to light, and you should reflect on your actions. Accountability will prevail, and you will be held responsible for your conduct.

Lawyer Eric Marcy accepted our case when other law firms passed. We had struggled with the issue for 8 months with a non-responsive party looking for someone who could help sort it out. Within one week !!! he sorted it out with the other party. All done, all clear- no more issue, thank you.

If you are ever in need of a law firm who understands your needs and represents you with passion and professionalism, reach out to Lyons & Associates. I retained them for a family matter, and was thoroughly pleased with the expertise, strategy provided beforehand, insights during the mediation, and the successful outcome during a very difficult time. Highly recommend!

Jessica and her legal assistant Linda were wonderful to work with. Super responsive, level-headed and calm, they helped me reach the outcome I was looking for and remained mindful of my goals - to reach a non-acrimonious settlement and keep legal fees to a minimum. Even with some tricky moments along the way, they were able to keep things moving in the right direction and handle whatever came their way. A huge thank you to both!!

First - know Lyons’ firm charges by 0.2/hr versus the normal 0.1/hr. So say she’s $575/hour — a one-line email that’s 30 secs to read & a 20 min phone call cost the same ~ $114. And raises hourly rates WHILE you still have $ from initial retainer. Apparently she “can,” but most just don’t. Especially in FAMILY LAW! Reviews I just read here describing Terry drawing you in with “charm,” TRUE. With reassurances that you are already and will be her absolute priority and then…didn’t even remember impt details of my case. And yes, my case was pawned off to brand new associate too, to save ME money. Knowing I’m a disabled, single mom who’d been bankrupted by lawyer fees to fight false allegations (as in hundreds of thousands) by children’s father, and referred to by her respected peer, when I saw the invoice charging me over $250 for the time I called just to ecstatically let her know EVERYTHING was dismissed, I felt nauseous. That’s repugnant. As the firm’s owner, I believe that’s her choice. Then, in the middle of what she said was “near the end,” she actually demanded my balance in full, saying not another word would be written on my behalf until fully paid. Pretty sure that’s not or is not fully legal, but what? Sue my lawyer who I need to finish an order? I had to BEG several times for huge (for me) lump sums then monthly payments that are the same as my rent (I had to move as a result). STILL paying off, but guess what hasn’t changed? My family court case for which she was retained. Probably redundant, but I do not recommend.

Talked with Terry in first meeting, who I thought was great, then was assigned to an associate. She was the worst. Spent more time on the billing, or should I say overbilling then she did my actual case. For one sentence emails I would be charge a half hour. I had to learn more about the law because she was so incompetent. The missed over 100k in hidden assets, all because the would not file a subpoena like I requested. Everything was terrible, communication, the way they handled thing. I understand that Terry didn't handle my case, but when you name is on the door, your ultimately responsible.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
