Decided I needed to hire an attorney, after a local healthcare provider served me with A lawsuit after non-payment for services. Having health care insurance and never going without lapse in coverage was a little blindsided by this. Wendi Andino was a great advocate in my case, she was able to proof negligence on the behalf of the healthcare provider and not billing my insurance in the required time therefore causing The claim to be rejected. I will recommend Wendi Andino in the future.

Attorney Robert is truly exceptional. Each time I have engaged his services, he has assured me with the same phrase, "I will handle everything. Just focus on yourself and your well-being." His confidence, experience, and mastery of the law are immediately evident. He consistently keeps you informed throughout the process, and I wholeheartedly endorse him as a superior defense attorney for anyone in need.

Several years ago (8) I hired Mrs. Zellers to assist me with a child custody issue where the mother decided things were not working out for her in Texas anymore. I had moved her so that I could remain in my childs life and after 4 years of living her the mother informed me she was going to take my son and move back to WI where we were originally from. By this point I had established a life for myself her and per the orders we had from WI that were still in effect I saw my son every other week Friday evening thru Friday morning the next week (week on week off). As soon as the mother of my child informed me of this decision I contacted Attorney Katherine Zellers and Mrs. Zellers took the steps to ensure that the child could not be removed from the state w/o a court order. Several months later and to make a long story short it was agreed that I had followed the mother here once to maintain a relationship with my son and a judge agreed that NO father should be required to uproot his life and move wherever the mother felt on a whim and I was awarded full custody, child support and the mother had to pay for any travel incurred so that she may see her son. She moved 1100 miles away to the north and only saw him one month in the summer and every other Christmas (even years) and every other spring break (odd years). SHe paid airfare and the $50 cost for me to walk him to the gate and pick him up as this was a requirement due to 09/11. A Father can get custody in this day and age and any Father that is half a man should try there is no law that says a mother loves their child more that the mother. In this case when she lost the court hearing she just snuck out and did not even say goodbye to her son leaving me to explain it to him. Mrs. Zellers made me feel at ease and had it not been for her I would have been terrified about loosing my son. She is a kindhearted one of a kind attorney.

I hired Jennifer for my divorce and child custody battle. I've had her retained for nearly two years now and have nothing but positive feedback. She was professional but also caring. She prepared me well for court and is really proficient at cross examining people on the stand. I was always able to get in touch with her or her paralegal during an "emergency" ... I have recommended her to friends of mine who have also used her and experienced great results. Highly recommend her.

Cannon law was recommended to me by a close friend of mine that has worked with them in the past. And while I'm typically very skeptical of any attorney or any law firm and their true intentions. From the beginning the interaction was not only incredibly professional. But understanding of the case at hand. Understanding on a level I didn't expect. Kerri specifically showed consistent moments of going above and beyond to assist me with my case. I'm very grateful for this organization and their ability and willingness to take your issues personally and effectively provide tailored advice. It's rare when I give a review. This one is merited.

I highly recommend Anthony and his team. Generally speaking I haven’t had many positive experiences with lawyers however even with dealing with a divorce I could not be more pleased with how Anthony handled my case. As a side note I felt I got extremely good case management for the money I spent. I never felt like he was nickel and dimeing me.

Mr. McNeill is a skillful and adroit attorney. A high-powered lawyer that is knowledgeable in the most minute aspects of the law. This is an attorney that is not afraid of going to battle, and I promise you he is not the one you want to be fighting against. He represented me in a child custody case against my ex wife and for the first time I had an attorney that understood, worked hard, and fought for me as a father in the court room. Without Mr.McNeill I believe the court would have lived up to the "mother state" reputation it has. I trusted my future and relationship with my children with this man, and I only wish I would have known him from the start.

When I first met with Mr. Vick, I was quoted a retainer price which he said would be more than enough to cover his services, which I paid. When it came time to schedule my court date, I was given another huge bill and told I must pay it before he would schedule any dates with the court. The week before court he wanted another $12,000... on top of the already $8,000 I previously paid in full!!! REMINDER!! We never stepped foot into the court room!! He totally deceived me and my family!!! How do you use $8,000, and never go into a court room!! I had only been to his office for the initial consultation!!! DO NOT HITE HIM!!!

When it came time to schedule my court date, I was given another huge bill and told I must pay it before he would schedule any dates with the court. I was told that this was to cover the filing fees and the court appearance. Today, I recieved yet another large bill. I was charged time just for emailing his assistant a question about the divorce. That was money wasted. She was condescending and rude. She always responded to my questions as if I were a huge bother. Considering the amount of work I personally had to do, such as drawing up my own agreement with my ex and delivering paperwork, I should be the one getting paid. If you value your money, find someone else.

A friend recommended to see Thomas Vick of Weatherford and she emphasize the father in any way the son unfortunately; he was already dead, so I hire to Mr. T. Vick Jr. He PUSHED to attend a meeting with a mediator Mr. Mann which could never mediate anything because Mr. Vick did not allowed, Mr. Vick control the meeting and the mediator at all times, this meeting really was just the excuse to increase his income from services. And he try to force me to sign a divorce agreement clearly inconvenient for me, where inclusive he served as my trustee, as he fail in an attempt to scare me with his yells, then he quit to the case and did not notice the scheduale of the last hearing of my divorce, he informe that if I had some difficulty in accepting his withdrawal then needed presented to the judge, but he never said the hearing would include my divorce. Mr. Vick has two characteristics that make him a danger lawyer: Lacks completely of scruples and has a great need of money (I knew this when I saw him defend to my ex-husband like a wild beast) Today I recover from the whole lost of my heritage , but this trash of lawyer, takes away the prestige of a firm founded many years ago, and he never recovers it, plus he will have to pay off in the hell to betray who trust in him, HIS CLIENT. In his internet link he self-proclaimed a master in family law, but when I asked in the Texas Bar, they dont have any notice about a master in relation with this person. Maybe people from Weatherford can investigate before hiring him why after working how Felony Prosecutor was not invited to work in more public positions, something they should had having found, certainly. No one experiences from somebody else head, but please if you decide to hire him (Gabe Thomas Vick Jr.) be very careful.

I retained Deborah for a custody case. She failed to have the proposed order that the judge requested. She failed to present any information that was given to her to support my case. She missed the first court date and reschuled the second. She was unprofessional to me when I got upset about her conduct and was very short with me. Needless to say I lost the custody case and now it is costing me three times more to have it re tried. I tried to resolve the issues I had with her conduct but she has yet to contact me, I would not recommend hiring her to anyone that wants an attorney that is going to put the effort and time into their case.

I hired Ulis for a divorce a while ago and I should have fired him sooner. You would think that after spending $10,000+, we would’ve made it a little further than mediation. He convinced me to change the basis of my divorce from adultery to mutually agreed. This was extremely naive on my part but he convinced me it was best for the kids. I believe it was a ploy to drag out the divorce. After I had my settled on the feeling that I was being milked, I fired him. I had recently replenished my retainer with $1,000+ left and after I fired him I requested the balance only to receive a bill for $1,000+. Divorces should NOT be an avenue to prey on people but there are unfortunately some lawyers that do.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
