...My research post sudden-need for divorce representation led to a consult w/well-regarded by peers, well-reviewed Ms. Jennifer Fox in Richmond, VA. Charisma and intellectual gravitas was my immediate impression. I made my "case"/communicated the financial groundwork from my dozen documents in hand. Ms. Fox was patient, then informative, relating the legal parameters for seperation leading to divorce, "amicable" or otherwise. Consumately professional, she intimated that I may be better served by Ms. Stephanie A. Montgomery, an attorney with a powerful skillset in divorce law, combined with passion and compassion regarding the protection and care of her clients. Ms. Fox had worked alongside Ms. Montgomery, and explained her advocacy also due to my divorce occuring geographically being in her jurisdiction, in case "amicable" went sideways, and local court apearences became neccesary. (meaning billable costs of travel-time for Ms. Fox to Williamsburg should be considered a factor) Ms. Fox "suggested" I speak less..let Ms. Montgomery's own professional intellectual agility do me the most service. ( This turned out to be great advice personally and professionally) Second consult appointment happened in few days.
...Thankfully, the 5 minute drive to Ms. Montgomery's location was a relief, and her office desk staff and paralegal were warm and cordial, in minutes, Ms. Montgomery escoted me to her adjacent office. I experienced a wave of relief, that "you're right were you're supposed to be" in that moment, her prescence/vibe, vocal tone and impression on point...effortlessly. I comfortably listened as the facts and "game-board" were confirmed. My then wife had retained counsel some months ago, and had produced a financial spreadsheet and preliminary legal agreement Stephanie could analyze for their intent and stategy.
There were several terms/demands not even legally appropriate involving shared married expenses, even in the face of opposing party's superior income and net worth. Ms.Montgomery then began the process to "qualify" my wants/needs/intent. Within minutes she had formed a viable counter-proposal to return to opposing council and client. I left relieved and finally in posiitive spirits.
My situation required a few office visits for signatures on dox, I was efficiently updated by Keidra A. Frazier, Ms. Montgomery's paralegal. It was always so pleasant to visit, to see the staff and get the ear of Stephanie on occasion, asking advice on this or that (home for sale deed was in wife's name)...the trust she inpires is priceless itself. Over a year ago I began one of the hardest journeys I have ever walked!! Fighting for custody in the state of Virginia as a father is a lot more difficult than you could ever imagine. Throughout the process I had 3 attorneys. By the time I got to Mike I had almost lost all hope. He was very knowledgeable in the entire process and he was very patient with me. He spent more time and effort than the other two attorneys combined. He was extremely helpful with making me aware of the entire process, and gave stellar advise that eventually allowed the final win for my son!! He was very attentive to my case and clearly worked with passion. I would recommend him a million times over!! Brandon is a personable and intelligent attorney. I hired him to be my divorce lawyer. It was a difficult and contentious divorce. Even though I personally like Brandon I cannot recommend him if you have a high net worth and are receiving military and civil service benefits. Brandon had many clients which adversely impacted his availability to work on my complicated case. Brandon was unable to negotiate an in-house separation agreement, which cost me money in home expenses and left me exposed to shenanigans from my wife and her attorney. He also did not seek a legal remedy for the inequitable payment of home expenses. Consequently, as a retiree I carried the full financial load for maintaining the house. Brandon was unable to bring the opposition to the negotiation table. I had to email my spouse with an offer. In November 2022 we finally reached a settlement. I suspect that Brandon was unavailable during a portion of November, which delayed sending the divorce documents to the court and pushed the divorce into 2023. That delay cost me thousands of dollars in additional Federal and state income taxes. Even though Brandon was unable to bring the opposition to the negotiating table he advocated using an expensive meditator.

We interviewed several attorneys prior to retaining Mr. Waltrip. We found him to be down to Earth, humble, and respectful; but truthful and frank. He listened to our story with sympathy and sensitivity.
He was completely realistic and reasonably managed our expectations. Also, he offered some novel suggestions about how we could conduct the case.
Another great benefit was the fact that he lived in and knew the county in which our case was to be heard and he was familiar with both the judge and the opposing counsel.
During the run up to the trial date, he and his staff were communicative and responsive to our questions. He kept us hopeful but realistic. He and his paralegal continued to be kind and polite.
On the day of the trial, he was prepared and organized (not in the most traditional way). I must admit I was concerned watching his notetaking style, however when it came time to question and cross-examine, his mind was sharp and his words were articulate, clear, and hard-hitting. It was fun to watch.
He had the passion of a competitive athlete and was hungry for victory. He jabbed, parried, and then closed for a knockout. He left the opposition flummoxed and completely outplayed. We didn't even need to call our witnesses.
The preparation for and the experience of court was arduous and sometimes painful, but the outcome was as good as we could have expected.
I am grateful to Mr. Waltrip and would recommend him without prejudice or reservation.

We were extremely disappointed by the service provided by Susanna Hickman. She and her paralegal made basic, repeated mistakes. We had to correct her on how to spell our legal names and who the co-trustees were approximately seven times. In the end, she missed a big problem with our need to adjust a trust that we had explained repeatedly and cost us at least $500 for work we shouldn't have needed. We are having another lawyer check her work because we lack any faith in her judgment and ability. We recommend you go elsewhere.

If she offer free legal services I wouldn't recommend her to anybody. She was suppose to do what's best for the child and she only did what was best for the mother. She didn't represent me but I sat in a case that she was the GAL. IF YOU HAVE HER AS YOU GAL PREPARED YOURSELF TO LOSE THE CASE!!!!!!! If I could give her a negative rating I would. She did nothing for the child sad.

She's says she's for the betterment of the child but won't answer you emails (sent 3 months ago, no response), will not look at any evidence you present to incriminate the other party, will use what you tell her and actually use it as her own findings in her final report. If you are a unfit parent and it can be proven you are, then she is the one you want in your corner but if you are a parent that knows what their child needs/wants, I wish ya'll the best.

My experience with this lawyer is second hand as he was hired by a woman with a history of fraud and forgery to obtain a permanent protective order against me based on a string of lies she had concocted which had no basis and no police reports or evidence to prove. The judge very quickly denied the request as it was obvious to everyone in the room this woman was delusional at best. Mr. Freeman just stood there, seemingly dumb-founded as his client made statements that conflicted each other and were clearly not well thought out lies. I’m absolutely sickened that an attorney that has taken an oath to uphold the law would allow himself to be a part of a case such as this. He clearly took this case for the money and nothing else. I am a mom of 9 children who are all upstanding citizens. I have no criminal record, and am a leader in the community. I would never hire a lawyer with this kind of ethics. Disgusted!!!

Tried to use him for child custody matters and it was a horrible experience. He has a lot of book knowledge with legal matters, but his advice was horrible and he seemed distant and uncaring about my matter. Upon going to hire him, he told me I had no leg to stand on (which is false) and turned me down as a client and just gave me my money back. I still don't understand why he did that to this day and it was very uncomfortable. This turned out to be a blessing though, as I went to hire a fantastic (and more affordable and compassionate) lawyer than Mr. Luck ever would have been. My current lawyer was very successful with all of my needs and things turned out great for myself and my child. I am so glad I didn't listen to his advice, because it was false. One of the least caring attorneys I have ever spoken to without question. He may do good things for others, but my experience was depressing.
