Craig is a man with with a lot of resolve. He skillfully navigated between the prosecuting ADA's blockheadedness and my own. He is smart, clever, and compassionate. I could tell that he really cares about his work; he sees his clients as human, with lives to gain or lose. Whereas the prosecution only sees us as criminals (and maybe our lawyers' clients), Craig sees us as people; he put his absolute best into getting the best possible outcome for my case, and his wisdom had helped me get a good leg up on my new life. He's not just a lawyer, he's a man who believes (and rightly so) that he's doing the right thing.

I not only recommend attorney Craig Mastantuono but I guarantee once you meet him you too will look no further. Craig Mastantuano is an excellent attorney who really goes above and beyond for his clients. He helped me with my case and got me an amazing deal that I didn’t think was going to happen. He also made sure to keep in contact weekly throughout the process and kept me updated and made sure I was completing the things I needed to have done before our court date. There is no other attorney that will work as hard for you as he will. If your looking for an attorney thats going to look out for your best interest I highly recommend giving him a call.

Craig was actually recommended to me by a lawyer in my community whom I highly respect. Our family was facing a very serious crisis. We needed someone we could trust to be experienced, capable, and caring to guide us through the maze of the legal system. Craig did this with accurate, professional expertise. The outcome was all we had hoped for, and we are very grateful. We would not hesitate to strongly recommend Craig and his law firm for any legal matter.

Public Defenders have a general reputation of being pro-government. In fact, on the streets they are called "Public Pretenders." Mr. Uller is anything but. I had the pleasure of having Josh represent me while on parole/probation for (I still don't understand the difference!) for (believe it or not) tax evasion from 1998! My conviction was in October of 2014 and was the result of a plea bargain I agreed to only because the feds were harassing my family. Despite my acquiescence to the Federal Mafia, my mom and only brother haven't spoken to me since. Mr. Uller is kind, hard-working, patient, intelligent, and soft-spoken, unlike any other lawyer I had the displeasure to work with. Thank you, Esquire!

Mr.uller worked on my federal case and he did a great job. Mr.uller was very professional and he knows law,he was very efficient and effective when dealing with court proceedings. He made sure he made all his schedule appointments and if not I knew that he couldn't attend ahead of time. Mr. Uller stated facts he never let me interpret things that were not the truth, meaning I went in every situation knowing any outcome nothing was ever guaranteed. He gets to know his clients . Mr uller is very smart and is a great lawyer I strongly recommend hiring him if you need a great defense attorney.

I wish I could give 100 stars, 5 just isn't enough. Mr. Binder is an outstanding lawyer and anyone should have the utmost confidence when hiring him. I hired him for a drug related case vs the State of Wisconsin. I was facing 9 felony charges. The most serious one up to 40 years in prison and the others weren't much better; together they totaled 143 years maximum imprisonment exposure. On top of this, the prosecutor was no slouch, quite the opposite in fact, lots of prison is always what he wants and he doesn't budge on that. This prosecutor actively tried to make my charges sound worse than they really were to the judge during the hearings to a blatant degree; I got the feeling the State really wanted to put me away for a long time, which was terrifying. From day one I always got the impression that Mr. Binder worked tirelessly on my case, doing everything and researching everything that he possibly could to get me the best decision possible. I also got the impression that he genuinely cared about my wellbeing and was invested in the outcome of my case far past any payment, and I was right (read to end to see why). To begin, Mr. Binder and his firm secured my bail at $5000, when the State asked for $100,000. Mr. Binder poured over every piece of evidence while crafting my defense and kept me in the loop the entire time. He was able to successfully elongate my case, always getting at least 3 months between hearings, if not more. In conjunction with that, he gave me tips and ideas on what I could do to best boost my chances of a favorable verdict, which turned out to be very helpful. As a result, I had the time I needed to follow through with his suggestions and I am confident that they saved me a lot of prison time. Throughout the case Mr. Binder made himself available whenever I had questions or concerns and he always took the time to explain everything in great detail to me; often times this would take up hours of his time and I always felt as though he was glad to do it. The initial plea offer from the State was 8 years in prison, which Mr. Binder thought was unnecessarily high and he was able to get the plea down to some amount of prison time, left to the Court's decision, with the ability for the Defense to argue. With this prosecutor that seemed like magic. In the end, he was able to argue for 4 years of probation with 9 months of condition time (3 months straight time, 6 months Huber) and an imposed and stayed sentence of a few years. I was not fined at all, and I was able to get a report date 1 month out from my sentence date instead of being taken to jail right after sentencing. This is where most lawyers would end it, but not Mr. Binder. He continued to keep in contact with me and help me navigate the Huber situation; he reached out multiple times to the HOC in attempts to get information from them, get them to guarantee my release for Huber (HOC makes their own rules and can just ignore what the judge says, doesn't make sense at all, broken system) and possibly get me electronic monitoring instead (still up in the air, but probably a no due to my charges, nothing he can do about that). The HOC is wholly incompetent in every regard, yet Mr. Binder keeps trying, and keep in mind, he is not obligated to at all, my case is over, he can walk away anytime he wants, but he's choosing to go far above and beyond and it's fantastic. Mr. Binder is not just a phenomenal lawyer, he is a phenomenal human being as well, and it shows in many ways. He is the type of lawyer that all others should strive to be like and live up to. The bottom line is, hiring Mr. Binder was the best decision I could have made. If you want a truly outstanding lawyer who will do everything he can for you and treat you like his friend or family, Mr. Binder is your man. Do not hesitate to hire him.

I was pretty devastated about my situation until I called John. He had been recommended to me by someone I trust and almost immediately made me feel better about what was going on. We sat down and talked. By the end of the conversation, I was sure I picked the right guy. From then on, he had everything under control. Any time something came up, he handled it and let me know. Every time I asked him something, he had the answer or got back to me right away. I once called hm in a panic because I missed a form in the mail and thought I was going to lose my license. He had already submitted the form for me. I called him when my scram broke and fell off in the middle of the night and he got ahold of all the right people and I was able to make it right without me being non compliant. This court appearance was one of biggest things to happen in my life. This was going to change everything. I can’t believe the relief I felt when I walked away with a dismissal. John got me through one of the roughest patches in my life. His help was worth every penny. I will absolutely be recommending him to anyone I know that finds themselves where I found myself.

Niccole is an amazing attorney and I would highly recommend her. My case drug out for 3 years with lots of things that don't normally happen in a criminal case. Nicole stuck with me and was able to show the jury that I was not not guilty on all counts. I cant say enough good things about Nicole. While I hope not to ever need her services again she is the first person I would reach out to if something ever happens in the future.

I've had other lawyers before and nobody compares. Attorney Brittain didn't tell me to take a deal because I would lose. Instead, he listened to me and told me we should fight and go to trial. He did a psycho-drama with me and it was amazing. After the psycho-drama, I understood how he was going to win my trial. He is a fantastic lawyer!

Leah Thomas was an excellent lawyer in representing my son. She spent the time and effort to get to know a complicated situation and to get to know us. It was obvious she cared about our family in her actions and words. I was concerned about another lawyer being stoic and “just doing their job with the minimal work necessary” but Leah went above and beyond my expectations and it was very apparent that she cared about the outcome as much as we did. Leah communicated well during every step of the process and made herself available any time we needed her. Due to her effort and commitment, my son received the best possible outcome. I would absolutely recommend her as a criminal defense lawyer.

Concern #1: Do these guys know what they are doing? I was impressed with their structured approach. This made me feel comfortable that nothing would be "missed." Their free video library helped me understand trusts / wills. The videos also showed their knowledge and professionalism. Concern #2: What is their patience for answering questions? Trusts / Wills are new to me and it is easy for my mind to glaze over. This was not their first "rodeo." They answered / anticipated my questions until I felt I had enough understanding. Concern #3: What happens if I have a life changing event or there are issues after I die? They set up a process to deal with these issues. Why did I want to get a trust? I was the personal representative for two estates. Probate is a tedious, expensive and time consuming process. The money I spent to establish my trusts is significantly less than probate costs. In a short period of time I was able to make sure my estate could be settled quickly and easily.

I was charged with a Felony. I was plunged into the legal system for the 1st time in my life with no idea of what to do. John took time to listen, explain, and plan my defense. He fought the State of Wisconsin’s refusal to provide evidence and won. He fought a maleficent prosecutor and won. More than 1 attorney told me I had hired the best lawyer in WI. That respect from his peers was also evident from the Judges as well. John has worked tirelessly to improve the system here in Wisconsin so that the rights of the accused are protected. He worked long hours and even weekends on my case. The result? I am cleared of all charges and have my life back. If you need legal counsel, don't spend another second being worried. Hire John.

John is the best!!! John worked with me on a minor infraction with the law, which I still do not believe to be a just accusation. But due to lack of supporting evidence in email, as they were deleted by the company I was working for at the time. We chose to settle, John was able to get my "felony theft charge" which everyone knows would have been damaging to anybody career and future endeavors for the rest of their lives . He was able to show they also did not have enough supporting evidence on their end as well to prove intent. And was able to get it reduced to misdemeanor and eventually all the way down to a "civil charge of disorderly conduct" basically the equivalent of a traffic ticket. Needless to say, John knows very well what he is doing in order to make certain you truly get a fair representation with the law.

Do not use this person. He only cares about himself and money. He doesn't do any work other than review the charging documents and "wings" it in court. After he has your money he doesn't respond to calls or emails. He seems to have quite the ego, still don't understand why. Court officials obviously have little regard for him. I experienced all of this first hand after it was too late. There are plenty of similar comments on line. Wish I would have researched him beforehand. In my opinion he shouldn't be allowed to practice law.

What a Federal Crime Lawyer Can Do for You

A federal crime lawyer specializes in defending individuals or organizations accused of violating federal laws. These lawyers have experience navigating the complex federal criminal justice system, which includes higher penalties, stricter sentencing guidelines, and a different court system than state-level crimes. Federal crime lawyers defend clients against a wide range of charges, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, fraud, conspiracy, gun violations, and more. They assist in every phase of the legal process, from investigation to trial and appeals, ensuring their clients' rights are protected.

If you’re facing federal criminal charges, a federal crime lawyer can provide the necessary defense and expertise to navigate the complexities of federal law and achieve the best possible outcome.

When Should I Hire a Federal Crime Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a federal crime lawyer in any situation where you are under investigation or have been charged with a federal crime. Key scenarios include:

  • Charged with a federal crime: If you’ve been charged with a federal offense, such as drug trafficking, wire fraud, money laundering, or conspiracy, hiring a federal crime lawyer is essential to ensure your defense is tailored to federal court procedures and laws.
  • Target of a federal investigation: If you are being investigated by federal agencies like the FBI, DEA, ATF, or IRS, it’s crucial to retain a lawyer early on. A lawyer can help you avoid self-incrimination and build a defense strategy to counter the investigation.
  • White-collar crimes: If you’ve been accused of federal white-collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading, a lawyer can help defend you against charges brought by federal prosecutors and regulatory agencies like the SEC.
  • Drug-related charges: If you’re facing federal drug charges, such as possession, distribution, or trafficking of controlled substances, a lawyer can represent you in federal court and negotiate plea deals or challenge the prosecution’s case.
  • Gun-related offenses: If you’ve been charged with federal gun crimes, including illegal possession, trafficking, or using a firearm during a violent crime, a federal crime lawyer can help defend against harsh federal penalties.
  • Immigration-related crimes: Federal charges involving immigration violations, such as human trafficking, smuggling, or illegal re-entry after deportation, require specialized legal knowledge of both federal criminal law and immigration law.
  • Appeals: If you’ve been convicted of a federal crime and are seeking to appeal the conviction or sentence, a federal crime lawyer can assist with the appeals process, focusing on legal errors or issues that may have occurred during the trial.

Hiring a lawyer as soon as you know you are under investigation or charged with a federal crime gives you the best chance of protecting your rights and building a strong defense.

What Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Do?

A federal crime lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to defend individuals and organizations accused of federal crimes. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Defending clients in federal court: Federal crime lawyers represent clients in all stages of federal criminal proceedings, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Building a defense strategy: Lawyers thoroughly investigate the charges, review the prosecution’s evidence, and develop a defense strategy tailored to the unique aspects of federal law and sentencing guidelines.
  • Negotiating plea deals: In some cases, a lawyer may negotiate with federal prosecutors to reduce charges or penalties, potentially avoiding a lengthy trial and reducing sentencing.
  • Handling federal investigations: If you are the subject of a federal investigation, a lawyer will guide you on how to interact with federal agents, respond to subpoenas, and handle potential interrogations, ensuring your rights are not violated.
  • Filing pre-trial motions: Federal crime lawyers can file motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or challenge the legality of the investigation or arrest, aiming to weaken the prosecution’s case before trial.
  • Representing clients in appeals: If you’ve been convicted, a federal crime lawyer can represent you in the appeals process, focusing on legal errors, misconduct, or constitutional issues that may have affected the trial’s outcome.
  • Managing sentencing and post-conviction matters: Lawyers also help clients during the sentencing phase, arguing for leniency or alternatives to imprisonment, and assist with post-conviction matters such as parole or supervised release violations.

How Are Federal Crime Lawyers Paid?

Federal crime lawyers typically charge for their services in various ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected time commitment. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many federal crime lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience, the case complexity, and geographic location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as negotiating a plea deal or representing you during the initial stages of a federal investigation, some lawyers offer a flat fee. Flat fees for federal criminal defense cases often range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the scope of the work.
  • Retainer: In complex federal cases, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers a portion of the legal work. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as they work on the case. Retainers typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the case.
  • Payment plans: Some federal crime lawyers may offer payment plans, especially if the case involves extended litigation or lengthy appeals. This can help make legal fees more manageable over time.

It’s crucial to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to understand the total cost of representation and how payments will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Federal Crime Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a federal crime lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Federal crime lawyers generally charge between $300 and $1,000 per hour. For example, if a lawyer charges $500 per hour and spends 50 hours on your case, the total cost would be $25,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as negotiating a plea deal, flat fees can range from $5,000 to $25,000 or more, depending on the seriousness of the charges and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Retainers: In more complex or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer of $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the case’s scope and complexity.
  • Appeals: If you’re appealing a federal conviction, legal fees for an appeal can range from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the issues being raised and the length of the appellate process.

In addition to legal fees, you may also need to cover additional costs such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Federal Crime Lawyer

Before hiring a federal crime lawyer, it’s essential to ask key questions to ensure they have the necessary experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with federal cases?
Ensure the lawyer has extensive experience handling federal criminal cases, particularly those similar to yours, such as drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, or gun violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost of your defense.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including plea deals, dismissals, or trial strategies.
  4. What is your approach to defending federal cases?
Ask how the lawyer plans to approach your defense, including potential pre-trial motions, negotiations with federal prosecutors, or trial strategies.
  5. Will my case go to trial?
Ask whether the lawyer thinks your case will settle out of court through a plea deal or whether it’s expected to go to trial, and how the lawyer will prepare for either scenario.
  6. How long will my case take?
Federal cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer for an estimated timeline, from investigation to trial or settlement.
  7. What are the possible penalties if convicted?
Ask about the potential penalties you could face if convicted, including prison time, fines, or other consequences, and how the lawyer plans to mitigate those penalties.

How to Check the Credibility of a Federal Crime Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable federal crime lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Look for federal crime experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in federal criminal defense and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on federal cases.
  • Check for federal court admissions: Make sure the lawyer is admitted to practice in federal court, as federal criminal cases are handled in federal district courts.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a federal crime lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Information about the charges or investigation: Provide any documents related to the charges against you, such as indictments, subpoenas, or notices of investigation. This helps the lawyer assess the severity of the charges and the potential defense strategy.
  • Details of previous interactions with federal agents: If federal agents have contacted you or conducted searches, provide a detailed account of those interactions, including search warrants, interrogations, or evidence seized.
  • Questions about your case: Prepare a list of questions regarding the legal process, potential outcomes, and how the lawyer plans to defend you.
  • Relevant financial information: If your case involves financial crimes or assets that may be at risk, bring relevant financial records, such as bank statements, business records, or tax returns.
  • Previous legal history: If you have a prior criminal record or have been involved in federal investigations before, bring details about those cases.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal defense for your federal case.
