I was in need of a lawyer for a property case I went online to find a lawyer and chad’s website stood out the most being more professional than others and more explanatory so I gave Chad a call I was able to connect right away with him. What I liked about this lawyer is he was on top of everything he moves quickly finding out all the details to your case and then filing any documents to get the ball rolling he is prepared for any curveballs thinking ahead of the game. I was able to get through to this lawyer anytime I had a question or concerns I was able to connect to him quickly by phone, text message or email and get a fast response. I highly recommend using this lawyer I will deathly use Chad in the future if needed. Thank you again for getting me to where I needed to be.

James or Jimmy has worked on a numerous of my cases with amazing outcomes. One thing that stood out to me was how understanding and down to earth he is. During one of my cases which was a couple years ago. I was a reckless and broke college kid and he arranged a very reasonable payment plan for me. To this day I can’t thank him enough for that . I’ve known James close to 4 years and I know this review is long over due. But James is someone who cares more about the outcome of your case than the money involved, which is very rare these days. I laughed reading the reviews talking about how well known he is at the courthouse. Which I can tell you none are fabricated. In my case was able to meet the judge in private and the first thing the judge says to me was “ You are lucky I like this guy”. From then on I knew this was my guy. Thankfully I don’t have to reach out to him much anymore but all I can say is this man right here changed my life.

James is a personable lawyer not looking for your money, he works for you and your needs. I've hired James and had a successful verdict in my case. James is one of the most knowledge lawyers you will meet. James has taught classes to officers on sobriety test. James has worked on both sides of the law as he was a cop. Who would you want to better retain then a guy that has worked on both sides. I recommend him to anyone. I have referred James on more than one occasion. James is your guy if you want your verdict taken personal, he fights to win every case.

Jimmy did a stellar job in helping our daughter out in 2 different counties. He was able to finesse her some incredible deals from the judges and DA's in both counties. He's friendly and responsive to his client, and well respected by DA's and judges. Highly recommend him!

I was facing a very stressful legal situation regarding a high profile case. I wasn't sure where to turn. Then I found Marc May. From the very first consultation, Marc was thoughtful, intelligent, and clearly a rockstar. He took the time to explain everything clearly and answer all my questions in a way I could understand. Throughout the entire process, Marc kept me informed and up-to-date on the progress of my case. He was always available to address any concerns I had, and his guidance proved invaluable. Thanks to Marc’s expertise and diligence, I was able to resolve my legal situation…better than I could have ever hoped. From the moment I called May & May my experience with this firm has been outstanding and has exceeded my expectations at every point throughout the entire process. Marc and his staff are highly professional and responsive. The advice I received was invaluable and they saved me a considerable amount of time and money! I have already recommended this firm to multiple people and will gladly continue to do so as I am confident in their ability to meet and exceed their client's legal needs at a fair price and in a time efficient manner. I have worked with many attorney's over my 40 years in business and May & May rank among the best with which I have worked over these many years. I was very pleased with the entire experience as Marc and his team represented my interest in such a caring and professional manner.

I had been originally referred to Marc May while going through a difficult modification case. I had been given several recommendations for attorneys. However, after meeting with Marc for our initial consultation, I knew he was the right attorney to represent my case. He only told me what he thought he could do for my children and myself and did not lead me to believe he could do any more than what he said based on our specific circumstances for the case. He made certain that I knew my rights and we established a plan to achieve our goal. Marc and his firm executed that plan swiftly, effectively and represented me exceptionally well until we resolved our modification shortly thereafter. Marc was always well prepared during any of our depositions and hearings. He is an exceptional attorney and I would gladly use his firm again if there is ever a need in the future.

In order to help our adult daughter through what would become a long difficult divorce process, our family needed an experienced family law attorney. Since we didn't know who could help us, we turned to a long time real estate attorney friend of ours for a recomendation. Without hesitation, he recommended that we contact Marc May. Marc quickly arranged an initial meeting. During our first meeting, Marc made sure that he got to know us as a family, our daughter's situation and what our goals were. He then clearly explained the range of legal costs that we could anticipate based on our team approach. Marc made us feel very comfortable and confident that our problem was in good hands. Often a divorce procedure can become a very messy series of legal actions driven by the client's emotional connection to the case. If not skillfully guided by legal counsel, this approach can easily create additional unnecessary legal costs to the client. Marc clearly understands this dynamic and is careful to explain all legal avenues available to the client along with the cost benefit of each approach in order to help the client control legal costs. Due to his many years of experience in family law Marc is able to temper his guidance and formulate approaches that have the highest probability of producing the best outcome for the client. It was a pleasure to work with Marc, Macy and their staff. Everyone was very responsive, considerate and professional. We rate this law firm +5 stars and to anyone with a family law problem we highly recommend contacting Marc and Macy. We are confident that they can help solve your legal problem too.

I would give Marc and Macy both 100 stars if Google allowed. After beginning to write my review here, something had called my attention away. When I came back just now to complete it, I saw that I'd mistakenly hit 1 star and it posted. Please be assured that was my error. From the first time I met them, the COMPASSION, CARE, RESPONSIVENESS, and PROFESSIONALISM demonstrated by Marc, Macy, and their legal assistant far surpassed the norm- and still does today. They truly had (and have) my back. From my first appointment, I knew I'd be in good hands and I cancelled appointments I'd made to interview other attorneys because I hired them on the spot. What stood out to me when I first met them was INTEGRITY. As they were working so diligently on my behalf during one of the most difficult seasons of my life, I not only received stellar legal care, but also I unexpectedly received so much more-- fears were eased, wisdom was imparted, and a trusted family friendship has developed. I have referred them out multiple times and will continue and am truly grateful to have been under the care of this amazing legal team during that difficult season in my life.

Marc and Macy were amazing! Marc came highly recommended to me by 2 different people who said he was the BEST, and they were completely right! It was so amazing that he made time to meet with me the same day I contacted him. Going to court was such an intimidating experience for me, especially when it involved the well-being of my young children, but May and May worked tirelessly for me and made a horrible situation less scary. I trusted them completely in a messy divorce/custody dispute, and they succeeded every step of the way. Anyone who is looking for someone to fight for them and their family can trust May and May to do the job in a respectful and honorable way.

I worked here for 6 months and realized how brutal attorneys can be and lack empathy. I was given a legal assistant position with no paralegal experience and expected to be a pro after 3 months. No proper training, no training manual from the trainer, so if you take a paralegal position here, make sure you are a very experienced one because they dont have time to explain everything in details. The only good that happened is that they made me realize I need to go to law school and enrolling this year 2024. Just like a suggestions was made in my initial interview and I humbly replied, I grew up as an immigrant in this country and have not taught about law. Thank you for being part of an inspiring life journey.

Brad and his firm were excellent. I had a recurring problem with my infotainment system, still covered under warranty. In spite of 6-7 trips to the dealer, and umpteen number of software patches, the system continued to have issues. I reached out to Brad, who quickly evaluated my situation, and took action. He represented my interest well, timely and professionally and helped reach a fair and reasonable settlement with the manufacturer. I would highly recommend him to anyone having habitual issues with their warranty covered vehicle.

He does not even deserve a one star. After the initial contact and payment of fees there was virtually no response to correspondence. There was one meeting about a month out from the hearing then again no response to any questions. There was no information given about procedures or time line or strategies. He didn’t show for meetings two days prior to the hearing nor the day before. Finally met to strategize less than two hours before the hearing, arriving late to this meeting as well. He was ill prepared. He showed a remarkable lack of professionalism, knowledge and respect of the client and others involved.

I first spoke to Barata Hollis regarding my divorce about 6 months ago. I must admit I was a bit of a mess. She was so very kind and understanding well above her legal requirements. Regarding her work ethic, it was above all my expectations. She was responsive and compassionate, and she was knowledgable, but understanding of my lack of focus at that time. She was informative without appearing bothered. She was outstanding. I went to other attorneys, who put a lot of emphasis on money, and did not seem to be concerned about my state of mind. In comparison to the others, she was very kind. I guess the best endorsement a mother could give would be to say that I recommended her to my children.

Never trust an attorney who keeps putting you off when you want a meeting. I got taken to the cleaners in a divorce, largely because this attorney did not even bother to check the false financial information given by my ex-spouse; and because she refused to give me any coaching or advice before I testified (despite my asking multiple times). she apologized for how things turned out, but then stopped returning my calls.

I was referred to Barata by a friend, and I occupied her full attention for over an hour. She was attentive, polite, and very knowledgeable about the legal questions I had. At the end of the time, I offered payment for her consultation. She told me that the initial consultation was free. I expected a hard sell for my business after my consultation, but I never got one. I chose to come back to her to handle my case, and it was handled professionally and quickly. She operated with my best interest at heart. I would recommend Ridgely & Hollis in Dallas, and would recommend Barata 1000%.

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
