My asylum case was granted today. I don't think it would've been possible without Attorney Sam's help. I have had previous experiences with other attorneys. But the calm, the confidence, the level of organization this man have is unbeatable. He was able to pick up case after I was referred to court, and win it easily. I would highly recommend him for all of your immigration purposes.

This review is long overdue. I was desperately looking for information about possibly getting an LPR for my son who is born outside the US. I was outside the US at the time, so I posted my questions on avvo and ither legal free forum but only few responded with real answer, most of the lawyers basically said they can’t answered now but to make appointment with them which mean money first. But Mr. Maina kindly answered most of my questions and scheduled a free conference call with me & my husband to answer more questions that we had. He was straightforward and clear on the instructions of what we had to do prior coming to the US and when we made it to the US he even gave us consultation in his office & told us the form to filed and the next step to do without paying anything. He told us his legal fees if he were to filed our applications but he said this was something we could do ourselves and so we did. We’re grateful to find him. Thanks Mr. Maina

First of all, praise the Lord for people like Samuel! I've been desperately looking up information because I'm trying to help his family and I've different lawyers trying to get information but nobody ever answer or call me back, came across Samuel and he gave me all the answers that I was looking for even without a dime. So if you're looking for a professional and willing to help or answer any question maybe you will have to pay but I recommend that you will call him he will help you. Shalom! God bless you Samuel!

Pradeek is efficient, effective, and accessible. He was very thorough and quick to reply (we had a lot of questions). We felt very supported and well-guided throughout the application process - and even after the case approval when we had a few more questions. Pradeek is excellent at his job, he is compassionate, thoughtful, and knows well what he is doing. I would recommend him without hesitation. (In fact, I've already recommended him to a few friends!)

Mr. Kim is a superb immigration lawyer. He is very detail-oriented, analytical and explains every possible scenario that may arise throughout the case. He caught couple particular details in our case that another attorney totally missed. Mr. Kim is very generous with his time and his pricing is flexible to save client's time and money. Needless to say, we sailed through the case, thanks to his attention to every little detail in the documents that we were submitting. I am very glad we found him.

Jin was incredibly helpful throughout every step of this long and complicated process, exceeded all of our highest expectations for this kind of work. His attention to detail, quick response times, and deep knowledge of this very complex and constantly shifting system are all outstanding. Before hiring him we were very dispirited by bad advice from outside sources and many complications resulting from the pandemic. With his support we are now on the other side of the whole greencard ordeal, and are leading the happy and peaceful life we have been looking forward to for so long! Thank you Jin!

My son and I had initially retained David Tchack's legal services to defend against an unlawful detainer filed by my son's landlord. After David successfully resolved the unlawful detainer, he represented my son in filing an affirmative civil lawsuit against the landlord. David tirelessly fought for my son's tenant rights and protections and ultimately achieved a favorable outcome for him. David applied his arsenal of knowledge, skills and expertise to meticulously build an airtight case. His brilliant writing talents enabled him to carefully craft his arguments while citing pertinent laws. As a strategic thinker, he anticipated the other party's tactics in order to plan an appropriate course of action to move the case forward. David is an exceptional lawyer through and through. He maintained the highest level of professionalism and ethics and always had my son's best interest at heart. I appreciated his open and honest communication and his ability to view the case through a lense of optimism, while also confronting reality. If we were to ever find ourselves in a legal bind in the future (knocking on wood), I would definitely seek his counsel again. He is the attorney you definitely want to have fighting for you.

David provided brilliant, thorough legal counsel and he did it with our best interests in mind at all times. He was our advocate through all of the stresses and victories and displayed unimpeachable ethical standards, as well. Most importantly, he fought smart, fought hard, and won for us. I have already recommended him to multiple people and will continue to do so at every opportunity.

Imagine opening a mail from the IRS stating that you owe several thousand dollars in taxes because you did not properly report your cryptocurrency. My partner and my heart's jumped into a panic! We knew Prerna also does tax law in addition to being an excellent immigration attorney, so we reached out to them. Prerna got back to us ASAP, and helped us file an amended tax return while running up against a tight deadline from the IRS. Prerna so skillfully and patiently walked me through how to properly document my cryptocurrency, with the appropriate cost bases! About a month after filing our amended return through Prerna, we actually got a nice return on our taxes instead of owing the nightmarish several thousand dollars to the IRS. Prerna also gave us tips of what to do better for our next years tax return so we do not make the same mistakes again. I highly recommend Prerna for taxes and immigration. Their knowledge, service, attention to detail and care is unmatched!

Working with Christine and her office staff was one of the best experiences my family and I ever encountered in many fronts. Professional confident and pleasant to work with. A great listener, with hi level of intelligence and most importantly her inter personal skills to understand and help her clients to achieve their goals and ultimately win their cases. Christine compiled all necessary information, which included evidence, real life experiences, compared current and past conditions/situations and many other variables. All information were ready at the time of the first interview, then passed! Her style is highly efficient, productive and worth every Dollar spent. Christine is extremely intuitive with all aspects of life. She worked very closely and diligently with her client/s, to unveil the innermost thoughts and feelings of the individual. Only to help overcome apprehension and prompt them to speaking out and share information to help succeed with the case. All to the benefit of her clients. She really helps her clients feel comfortable secure and confident. She makes it clear from the start that her first and foremost objective is her client's needs. Her compassion and coaching skills contribute a great deal to her success in each case. Her reputation and talents in her realm is well known and respected - A testament to her success. She lived in developing countries and speaks multiple languages, so she completely understand the culture and able to communicate freely. In short, my family and I were so happy and grateful for her and our friend who recommended her to us. We would use her services and recommend her to others over and again

We hired Christine Stouffer to assist in acquiring permanent residence status for myself and my daughter. Thanks to Christine and her staff, this daunting process went as smoothly as possible, and has resulted in two happy green card holders. All documents were filed correctly, and Christine attended and successfully advocated for us at the interview with USCIS. Christine is courteous, efficient and extremely knowledgable. In addition, I think Christine goes above and beyond in communicating with her clients; every email and phone call was answered promptly and in detail, even after our cases were completed. I highly recommend Christine Stouffer!

I used the services of Christine as both a recommendation from my husband and other friends to navigate the immigration process for my self. As any one who has had to navigate the USCIS to petition for a change of status and application for a green card, it's not only complicated but an emotional roller coaster. Christine was thoughtful and explained every thing in detail along the way and provided clear information about what I had to provide. She completed and submitted all applications correctly and on time. My petition was successful and I'm now a proud permanent resident of the US. Would I recommend Christine's Law services to others.. Absolutely Yes. and I have and will continue to do so. I can't thank Christine enough for making such a stressful process as easy as possible.

Vincent Marletta is an attorney whom I have known for about 10 years. He is an employment attorney who also represents injured workers in workers' compensation cases. I was a legal secretary in both the Oakland and San Francisco district offices. Over the years I have seen Mr. Marletta represent the insurance companies and injured workers. He handled his cases with dedication and diligence. I have been retired from the labor force for over 10 years. I called him because I needed some legal advice re: power of attorney. I was glad that I was able to talk to him and he answered my questions.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
