Eric Buchanan and Associates handled a LTD and SSDI case for me. Eric was very courteous, knowledgeable and up front about the case. His team and staff were very professional in working on the case and Hudson Ellis always returned my calls promptly and kept me informed of the status. I really appreciated his efforts and that of the whole team in working on my case. The team has been very helpful with any ongoing needs or questions that I have and I really appreciated their efforts during a very difficult time. My experience with them has been excellent and I would easily recommend them based on my experience.

Bill was our first call when we discovered a potential problem with our JV partner in a complex transaction. Over the next nine months, he was able to help us evaluate a complete range of strategies, but with a practical focus, consistently keeping our best interests in mind rather than running down rabbit trails or low-probability tactics. In other words, Bill did the minimum effective dose of legal work to prepare us for litigation while pursuing settlement. Bill's advice was excellent, providing true counsel rather than just a series of options. He was able to bring clarity to very complex legal situation, and help move the ball forward through effective communication with the other side. Because of Bill's involvement, we were able to achieve an outstanding result, receiving a full capital recovery while avoiding costly litigation. There is no doubt in our mind that we could not have achieved this result this quickly without Bill's help.

Over the past eight years Bill has represented our organization in extensive complex employment related matters. Throughout our relationship, Bill has always been candid, trustworthy and extremely thorough in supporting us as a client. Resourcefulness and creativity at arriving at the best possible outcome are characteristics that because of our experience working with Bill and his firm, are requirements for any other firms we work with throughout the world. Bill sets the benchmark in not only being a highly competent attorney, but also in providing for excellent client services. It has been a pleasure to work with Bill over the years.

Joe was a great attorney to me we had a mess. He went above the call of duty! When my father died he owed a construction company. He came down I had 8 people suing the estate, some family. My father gave his will out a year before he died but they keep quiet. This took years and Joe was the most level headed and intelligent attorney. He is a great attorney!

I am a local attorney representing parents in divorce and child custody proceedings. I know Mitch and Brian in their professional capacity as lawyers in the areas of creditor defense and criminal law. Both Mitch and Brian are well known, respected, and trusted among their peers in the legal community. Mitch has been an asset to me and my law firm by providing valuable guidance and advice on several occasions relating to collection of unpaid fees to my firm and unpaid money judgement/awards my clients have received but the other parent/spouse refuses to pay and tries to avoid. I recommend this law firm.

As someone who has never gotten a divorce and did not fully understand the process. I felt like I was left in the dark a lot. I had to constantly ask, “what happens next?” Even when I did get an answer it was vague. For example, I didn’t know my court hearing was over the phone until last minute. I didn’t know that my ex didn’t have to even be present on the call until last minute. It was very frustrating. I didn’t realize that I could have changed my name during the hearing until after it was finished and I got a follow up call. Then Mr. Pemerton tells me that since I didn’t change it during the hearing if I wanted to change it he’d offer me a discounted rate of $500 to change my name instead of his regular rate. He was very kind and professional in person though. He even walked me to my car at one point because I didn’t want to be cornered by my ex on the way out of the office. I just wish everything had been more upfront.

Following a devastating house fire I had lost all my documents including my naturalization certificate. I also noticed that my passport (which was saved from the fire) had recently expired; so, I was in a difficult position of not having any proof of valid citizenship status. When I met Mr. Olsen at his office, I knew immediately that I had selected the perfect law firm due to his calm demeanor and vast knowledge of immigration law. He proceeded to get all necessary information from me and filed all necessary forms to renew my passport and apply for a replacement document. I received my new passport in record time and the new citizenship certificate much earlier than expected. Mr. Olsen made the process entirely seamless and kept me in the loop as my application progressed. Needless to say, I wholeheartedly recommend Olsen Law Firm to anyone seeking a great attorney for immigration needs in Chattanooga and surrounding areas.

I am a father of two children. I have custodial custody of my two son’s as well. I am an active duty service member and have obligations to duty such as deployments/rotations out of country. I followed my permanent parenting plan and had my kids stay with their mother and her boyfriend while I was gone overseas. Within two and a half weeks of being gone she and her boyfriend disappeared with my kids, alienated me from my kids, filed false abuse allegations to my current post ( which was investigated and unfounded). Among other things my kids were also not registered in school and ended up starting a week late once I had began filing missing persons reports for my children which forced her hand in enrolling them and letting me contact them. My firm I had used previously to Grant Konvalinka & Harrison was amazing and was the firm that helped me to win my custodial custody a year earlier all the way from Colorado. After about nine months of using my previous firm, to save me some expenses my attorney had recommended that I use local representation and advised that Katherine Lentz would be more than capable of representing me fairly and well in this case. Once I agreed to make this transition I spoke with Katherine and everything we spoke about seemed like a clean cut case seeing that I had more than enough evidence in the case to come out with a successful ruling. However, as the months went on the opposing attorney in the case found ways to keep getting the hearing dates moved and have yet to be heard. I fought the whole nine months I was gone to try to get my kids home and to be cared for by my wife. My ex wife broke every single court order, everything in the PPP and someone I had to budge and bend and at one point even had to pay money to my ex wife for her to meet halfway to exchange my kids when she has never paid a dime in child support. She continued to let my ex wife break court orders for the longest time without filing any motions of contempt, the GAL had filed two previous contempt motions on her own behalf before Katherine actually filed one. This case has been so screwed up and unjust since I have been using Katherine to represent me. She had informed me that the opposing counsel had been getting her case probono even though she’s the one that committed tax fraud by claiming my children which goes against the PPP and false reporting. Countless emails were sent to Katherine with no response and when there was a response it was short and barely helpful. I conveyed my frustration over and over again and was met with we don’t like the way you speak to everyone ( referring to my ex wife and herself). After over a year of begging this case to gain progress and hold my ex wife accountable and the event of my children being moved to four different homes over the summer due to the lack of my attorney to take action in getting them back along with nine months of begging her to file a child support order to help with expenses, I finally filed a complaint to the Tennessee Board of Professional responsibility and within 24 hours of being notified that my complaint was granted an investigation Katherine without even speaking with me filed a motion to withdraw her representation in my case after charging me over 18,000 dollars with nothing to show for it and all on the weekend I have to be gone to training for the month and can’t find proper representation to continue my case to hold my ex accountable. This just goes to show the injustice that fathers have when fighting for what is best for their children because history shows clearly fathers in the same role that the mother is in have been put in jail and drained financially with child support for a lot less yet I have to beg and beg for the same justice. I will never recommend this firm and luckily it’s not close to base where so many fathers on active duty are fighting for their kids because this firm does not seem to care about how they treat their service members nor the fathers position.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
