In thinking about Tom Burke, the three words that come to mind are integrity, character and brilliance. I am in the Construction Industry and had been trying to receive payment from a customer for over 15 months. I had John as my lawyer in a hotly contested divorce proceeding which featured the withdrawal of the other side's lawyers during the case and the hiring of new ones midstream. John Malevitis guided the case through to a quite favorable settlement and conclusion for me. I have since hired him for various other business related matters. P.S. I asked John about the negative rating on Avvo received by a former client and I was advised of the client name, so I looked it up on the Court docket and found that in fact John had attended Court on her behalf about 30 plus times and that finally he had to withdraw when she was not cooperating with him and failed to attend Court as required. I don't understand how someone could publish these inaccuracies without first taking the time to look up the Court docket as I did!

I had hired Tom 5 yrs ago to arrange a parental visitation schedule order which was simple , he went out of his way to drive for my case which was held in kankakee IL ( it was very difficult to try to find an attorney who would venture out so far for my cause ) . Fast forward to 2020-2021 I had sought his services yet again for a contempt of court violation / parental time witheld by primary custodial parent . We are still on an ongoing fight for this but his drive to come through to the end for me is one I cannot thank enough . After a major remodeling at our condo yielded sub standard results in workmanship and additional damage common areas, he was able to recover most of the costs of repairs from the contractor and their insurance.
The project involved combining 2 condo units into a single unit with a new kitchen, wine cellar, living room and walk in closet. The general contractor installed new bamboo flooring directly on the concrete without proper sub-flooring as required by our association. They then installed paper over the bamboo to protect the flooring while they installed the custom cabinetry for the media center, kitchen and then completed building the wine cellar. After the paper was removed and the area unveiled the extent of the problems were evident. The floor was never leveled, the bamboo planks had large gaps between them, the cabinetry had gaps between them and along the ceiling.
The flooring had to be replace and installed with the required sub-flooring, the cabinets reinstalled with a few remade. The wine cellar required new doors and cooler and changes to hallway. The common area carpet was repaired and wallpaper replaced.
This was all completed with the money from the settlement. However, our time and inconvenience did not amount to much if anything.
I am not always certain that a lawyer has negotiated the best settlement or is telling everything that transpired. he always returned my calls and answered my question but a more proactive approach would have been appreciated.

Ms. Attorney White handled my speeding ticket court case which was classified as a felony because it was over 40mph. I currently live in Chicago but according to the state trooper I had to report to Rolling Meadows IL. The time I was suppose to appear in court I was scheduled to be out of town handling work business and Ms Attorney White was able to get my court date push back and received a notice of permission to travel.
