Being a businesswoman is difficult enough and I've dealt with a number of attorneys as my business requires a lot of contract review and negotiation. I've been treated like a know-nothing, put off and ignored. Another client of Mr. Zavarella's introduced me to him. Here is a lawyer who is a FRIEND! Calls are returned promptly, he knows me and my business. Before we started he suggested that he come to my business and see what I do, asked me and my employees about the business. One afternoon I was sort of nervous about a meeting with one of my businesses larger clients and he even gave me his home phone "in case we had to count sheep together so you get some sleep"! Gino takes his clients seriously, respects what they know and makes people comfortable.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office filed appeal on my case. I had difficulty finding somebody willing to "take on" the prosecutor. I met Gino Zavarella and he didn't hand me off to a secretary or paralegal or inexperienced lawyer. I spent a lot of time with him (and expected my fees to be much, much more than they were and than others had quoted). He's the kind of guy - a regular guy - you can sit down and have a coffee or beer with and hears what you're saying. Not only was he willing to take on the County Prosecutor but I WAS 100% POSITIVE that we had WON THE CASE when we left the courtroom. The end result = 100% Win!

I chose Terri as my lawyer because she is also a CPA. Terri advised me of the best options for me in my dissolution and made financial recommendations for the most favorable outcome. She was great at keeping the momentum going and holding the other party's legal representative to deadlines.

Peter helped me field an issue concerning a breach of contract. Before contacting Peter I was worried I didn't have any options available to me, and didn't know what I was going to do. Peter is quick thinking and well connected, and had my problem solved before I knew it. He is efficient and gets right to the point; a good characteristic in an attorney given that legal fees are charged at an hourly rate.

After a hit and run accident last year, I had no idea how to start finding a personal injury lawyer. I didn’t even know that my case was a personal injury case until I found Obral Silk & Pal on Google and they reached back out to me right away to start the process. They were the first law firm to actually take me seriously and not dismiss my claim right away. They explained everything to me, and they also worked QUICKLY. Each and every person from the receptionists, paralegals and all involved were compassionate, caring and worked hard to help me with my case. Jacob DeBaltzo is a great lawyer, really went above and beyond on my case to get the most for me. He’s also funny and really compassionate too, he really understood my case and my unique circumstance. If you’re thinking about talking to a lawyer for personal injury, go to Obral Silk & Pal. They won’t disappoint.

Attorneys Todd Gurney and Brian Eisen did an amazing job of prosecuting our family's wrongful death/medical malpractice case that was filed after the tragic loss of our oldest son. Their knowledge and expertise in both the pertinent medical fields and the legal details of our case made all the difference in the final disposition of the action. Todd guided us through the entire process very well, which was very helpful during this very tough time for our family. There were never any delays in response from Todd or Brian when we called - this was a major plus for us. While Todd was the lead Attorney on our case, both Todd and Brian worked together very well to make sure all the bases were well covered. Both Attorneys were just so thoughtful, and always kept our family's emotional state in mind during all discussions about the case - this meant so much to us! Additionally, Alexandra in the office always made sure we were well informed about any important case events that were coming up - we were never caught unaware of any upcoming case activities. If we ever had any questions or needed any clarifications, Alex was always able to get us the needed information in a timely manner. Our entire family was more than satisfied with how the Eisen Law Firm conducted themselves, and how they successfully prosecuted our case. We would strongly recommend both Todd and Brian to anyone looking for an excellent, competent and caring personal injury attorney firm.

I've only briefly interacted with the team at Eisen Law Firm and unfortunately I will not have the pleasure of working with them as timing does not currently permit, however I can confidently write this review because although brief, every interaction I had with this team had a positive impact on me. Given the astounding lack of empathy and compassion I have felt from the overwhelming majority of other attorneys I've consulted with, talking to a team with such dedication to their clients and true passion for what they do almost made me emotional. I think my first interaction was with Alexandra, and she empathized with my situation immediately, took detailed notes, and asked questions that truly demonstrated the personal approach they take when assessing each client, they listen. She made sure to go over everything with Brian and he called me the next morning as she told me he would. My conversation with Brian was extremely pleasant and made me feel heard, I finally felt like what I was saying mattered and that resonated deeply with me. I was touched to hear about how much he invests in each client, and most memorably, the fact that he only takes on a few cases at a time to completely focus on each one. I can tell that he really cares and there's no doubt that he gives it his all. I was so compelled to work with him that I couldn't take his first no for an answer and asked him to reconsider (lol), and he could have ignored me but he didn't, he took the time to let respond and let me know why he couldn't take on my case. His reason for declining reflected his genuine character, as it was due to the fact that he did not want the possibility of taking on another case to interfere with his focus on his current clients. I'm devastated, but I had to write this review for future potential clients at Eisen Law Firm, because I know what it feels like to feel like no one cares about something that was so valuable to you. Eisen Law Firm checked every single box for me and if you're reading this and in need of a light and some hope in our legal system, please give them a call.

I did not have a good experience with this law firm. During the initial consultation, I was told they could pursue one particular avenue that would be very advantageous to me. After this conversation, I signed the paperwork and was assigned two attorneys (I did not realize I would be paying two people to do one job). They would hold regular "meetings" and bill me for their time. The notes of these meetings were very vague and did not explain specifically what they discussed and the direction they planned to take. When I asked about the frequency and the lack of detail pertaining to what they discussed and/or their upcoming strategy, I was told that these meetings were a little more frequent than most and the lack of clarity/detail was how they did things. I go the impression that they didn't want to be questioned and that I should just let them do their job. After questioning them directly about two particular items, I was told by both attorneys that they couldn't pursue either one. The issue I had was that each of their "meeting" summaries had both of these topics listed. I didn't understand why they kept making this a topic of conversation and charging me when I was told nothing could be done about them. In the end, I paid over $6k and the only change that occurred happened when they requested the court review some payments (which were never in question) and they found a mistake that ended with me paying more out of pocket. It's my opinion that they didn't have anything to work with on my case from the initial consultation but took it anyway. Then they proceeded to hold meetings and continue to bill me to meet their billable hour quotas. There was no accountability and I was basically writing a blank check.

What a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Can Do for You

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer, often referred to as a litigation lawyer, specializes in handling legal conflicts between individuals, businesses, or organizations. These lawyers represent clients in civil lawsuits, helping to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or litigation in court. They can assist with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, property disputes, business conflicts, personal injury claims, and more.

If you are involved in a legal conflict and need representation, a dispute lawyer can guide you through the litigation process - from filing or defending against a lawsuit to negotiating settlements or representing you at trial.

When Should I Hire a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer when you're involved in a legal disagreement that cannot be resolved informally and may require legal action. Common reasons to hire a lawyer include:

  • Breach of contract: If someone has failed to fulfill the terms of a contract, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit to seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Whether it's a partnership disagreement, shareholder conflict, or a dispute with a supplier or customer, a lawyer can help resolve business-related issues.
  • Property disputes: If you're involved in a dispute over property ownership, boundary issues, or landlord-tenant conflicts, a lawyer can assist in resolving the matter.
  • Personal injury claims: If you were injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a lawyer can represent you in a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Debt collection or defense: If you're being sued for unpaid debts or need to collect a debt owed to you, a lawyer can represent you in court or negotiate settlements.
  • Employment disputes: If you're involved in an employment-related dispute, such as wrongful termination or discrimination, a lawyer can help you file a claim and represent you in court.
  • Defending against a lawsuit: If you've been sued, a lawyer can defend you against the claims, challenge the evidence, and negotiate a settlement or represent you at trial.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help ensure that your case is properly managed and that your rights are protected throughout the dispute resolution process.

What Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Do?

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients navigate legal conflicts and seek resolution. Their tasks typically include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing the facts and evidence to determine the strength of your case or defense and advising you on the best course of action.
  • Filing lawsuits or responding to lawsuits: If you're the plaintiff, the lawyer will file a lawsuit on your behalf. If you're the defendant, they will respond to the lawsuit and build a defense strategy.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting and reviewing evidence such as contracts, emails, financial records, and witness statements to support your case.
  • Handling negotiations: Negotiating with the opposing party to reach a settlement before the case goes to trial, which can save time and money.
  • Representing you in court: Presenting your case in court if a settlement cannot be reached, including presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments on your behalf.
  • Exploring alternative dispute resolution (ADR): Suggesting mediation or arbitration as alternatives to a trial, which can be faster and less expensive.
  • Drafting legal documents: Preparing and filing necessary legal documents such as complaints, motions, and responses, as well as drafting settlement agreements if a resolution is reached.

How Are Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyers Paid?

The fee structure for lawsuit or dispute lawyers varies depending on the complexity of the case, the type of dispute, and the lawyer's experience. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Many lawsuit lawyers charge by the hour, especially for cases that require extensive preparation, research, and trial work. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Contingency fee: In certain cases, such as personal injury or breach of contract claims, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win the case, usually taking a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as filing a simple lawsuit or representing you in mediation, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: In complex cases or long-term litigation, a lawyer may ask for a retainer, which is an upfront payment to secure their services. The lawyer will then bill against the retainer as they work on the case.

Discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how fees will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee structure they use. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Lawyers may charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases requiring extensive trial preparation.
  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency basis, expect them to take 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win $100,000 and the contingency fee is 33%, the lawyer would receive $33,000.
  • Flat fees: For less complex disputes or tasks, such as drafting a settlement agreement or representing you in mediation, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Retainers: Some lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the case complexity and expected litigation length.

Make sure to ask for a detailed breakdown of fees during your consultation so you know what to expect.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

Before hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has handled similar disputes and is familiar with the relevant area of law.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether they charge hourly, on a contingency fee basis, or offer flat fees, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and potential challenges.
  4. Have you handled cases that went to trial?
If a trial is possible, confirm the lawyer has courtroom experience.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of the timeline for resolving your dispute.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
Understand who will manage your case and their level of involvement.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for relevant experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in litigation or dispute resolution.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should provide references from past clients.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation can indicate expertise.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Contracts or agreements: Copies of any signed contracts or relevant agreements.
  • Emails and communications: Any written communication between you and the other party.
  • Evidence of the dispute: Receipts, financial records, photos, or witness statements related to the conflict.
  • Timeline of events: A clear chronology of the dispute, including key dates and interactions.
  • List of questions: Prepared questions about your case, the legal process, costs, and strategy.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide you with the best legal advice on how to proceed.
