Attorney Peng is my second lawyer during my immigration application process. She's diligent and responsible. What I like most about her is her high efficiency, timely communication, smooth process, and her ability to provide the best solutions from a professional perspective and from the client's point of view. In the end, my application was successfully approved. I'm so grateful to her and her team. Highly recommend to anyone who needs professional immigration services.

He is one of the smartest lawyers I have come across. I have consulted with him on several matters, and in my opinion, he is very direct while giving you his advice. When he takes on something, he does his very best. He has a unique talent of being concise, yet very effective in terms of due diligence and procedure. Very smart.

I consulted with Mr. Bryan for several minutes regarding a friend's issues, and he gave some solid advice, though I couldn't hire him due to the circumstances. He seemed very knowledgeable, and more thorough, in comparison to other lawyers I had consulted regarding the same issue.

Several years ago I suffered an unfortunate accident while traversing the streets of NYC. The incident resulted in severe injuries that landed me in a hospital emergency room in excruciating pain and in a cast for several months thereafter, and a plethora of doctors appointments and follow up visits. The accident definitely limited my ability in getting around and had life long effects that I will now have to bare as a result of the negligence imposed by third parties. Had it not been for the Lawyers at Friedman Levy, specifically Charles Green who was relentless and dedicated in seeing me through a vindication, I don’t know where I’d be. Let me tell you, no one likes to be on the receiving end of a law suit, and when municipalities and corporate titans don’t want to pay up, they lawyer up and keep stalling until you give up. Well thank God my team of Lawyers at Friedman Levy had the stamina, fierce dedication, and compassion to see my case through to the end. I’m delighted with my representation and they were all to kind to keep me abreast of my case every step of the way. They are simply amazing! They are superb and professional and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I was working with Katherine and her team for my first purchase of an apartment. Throughout the process they have always been very professional and helpful. Since it was my first time buying an apartment, I had a lot of questions on legal issues regarding the process. Katherine was always able to clarify things timely with great patience. It was a great pleasure working with them and I will definitely choose the firm in the future if needed.

The team at CPL were great help as I navigated my first co-op purchase in New York. Although I had purchased properties many times in other locations, New York is unique and I was very happy to have CPL work with me to close the deal as quickly and efficiently as possible. Alex Whiteacre was great as the primary lawyer on my team. He was very responsive to my questions and helped explain all the steps. Tara Lombardia was the lawyer at the closing and took her time going through all the reams of paperwork that had to be completed. I would highly recommend this firm.

I hired Eve-Lynn Gisonni and Gisonni Law Firm to fight a notoriously awful disability insurance company that was threatening to cut off my benefits. From the first day I met with her, she left me feeling at ease and she was completely in control of my situation. She was always available to answer all of my questions and it was obvious that she had many, many years of experience in disabiity insurance law and fighting Unum. When I went to leave this review, I noticed that someone left a really mean-spirited review about Eve-Lynn and her firm. None of the criticisms left by that person are what I experienced with Eve-Lynn. It appears that that person must not be well. Let me be specific. I had telephone and email access to Eve-Lynn whenever I needed to address any questions I had or issues that had arisen. I felt that Eve-Lynn's hourly charges for the work she did for my case were very fair and in fact less than what most disability lawyers wanted to charge me when I was looking for a lawyer. She promised to send me monthly billing statements, and I received one every month. Her bill descriptions were really detailed, and because of that, I never had any questions about the bill. Eve-Lynn always explained the issues to me in a way that made sense, and she was really good at keeping me informed of everything that was happening on my case. I would recommend Eve-Lynn and her firm to anyone having trouble with a disability claim. You need only read about her success stories, like I did when I decided to hire her firm, to see that she is a leader in the disability field and has helped a lot of people.

The Gisonni Law Firm, P.C. consists of solo practitioner Eve-Lynn Gisonni, Esq. and her secretary Kari Labadie. Gisonni was overwhelmed by my litigation and was not prepared to take it to trial. She stated to me that my case had taken "years off [her] life." Communication. (1) In order to speak with Gisonni by telephone, I was required to schedule a telephone conference and to identify the topics I wished to discuss. For most of the telephone conferences, I was billed for "preparation" of the telephone conference. (2) Just once or twice I was able to speak with Gisonni by placing a random, unscheduled telephone call. (3) When we met, Gisonni and I would discuss various matters and agree to various things. Subsequently, generally one or two days later, Gisonni would send e-mail contradicting or changing our agreements. Billing. I repeatedly asked for regular monthly statements. I never got them. Gisonni was either unwilling or unable to produce regular monthly statements. Settlement. The decision to settle a lawsuit or proceed to trial rests with the client. Gisonni thinks otherwise. She tried to force me to settle my lawsuit. More than once, I reminded her that the decision to settle or proceed to trial was mine and not hers. She did not agree. Discharge. After fully litigating my case, Gisonni stated to me that if I did not settle the case, she would not try the case. Gisonni had the audacity to state that her litigation retainer agreement did not include a trial! I almost filed a grievance. Gisonni was discharged and I settled the case on my own. Jack Mevorach, Esq.

What a Life Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

A life insurance lawyer specializes in legal matters related to life insurance policies and claims. They assist beneficiaries, policyholders, and insurance companies in navigating the complexities of life insurance law. These lawyers help clients with issues such as denied or delayed claims, policy disputes, beneficiary designations, fraud allegations, and contract interpretation. By leveraging their expertise, life insurance lawyers aim to ensure that clients receive the benefits they are entitled to under their policies.

Whether you're facing a denied claim, need assistance with policy interpretation, or are dealing with disputes over beneficiary rights, a life insurance lawyer can provide the legal guidance and representation you need to protect your interests.

When Should I Hire a Life Insurance Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a life insurance lawyer in the following situations:

  • Denied or Delayed Claims: If an insurance company has denied or unreasonably delayed payment of a life insurance claim, a lawyer can help challenge the decision and pursue the benefits owed.
  • Disputed Beneficiary Designations: If there is a dispute over who is the rightful beneficiary of a life insurance policy, a lawyer can help resolve the conflict through legal means.
  • Policy Interpretation Issues: If you're unsure about the terms and conditions of a life insurance policy, a lawyer can interpret the contract language and explain your rights and obligations.
  • Allegations of Fraud or Misrepresentation: If an insurance company accuses the policyholder or beneficiary of fraud or misrepresentation, a lawyer can defend against these claims.
  • Bad Faith Insurance Practices: If an insurer acts in bad faith by not honoring the terms of the policy, a lawyer can hold the company accountable under applicable laws.
  • Contestability Period Disputes: If a claim is denied based on issues arising during the contestability period, a lawyer can examine the validity of the denial.
  • Estate Planning and Tax Considerations: A lawyer can provide advice on how life insurance policies fit into estate planning and any tax implications.

What Does a Life Insurance Lawyer Do?

A life insurance lawyer offers a range of legal services, including:

  • Claims Assistance: Help beneficiaries file claims correctly and efficiently to avoid unnecessary delays or denials.
  • Appealing Denied Claims: Review the reasons for denial and prepare an appeal by gathering evidence, drafting legal arguments, and negotiating with the insurance company.
  • Litigation: Represent clients in court if disputes cannot be resolved through negotiation, advocating for their rights to receive policy benefits.
  • Policy Analysis: Examine policy documents to interpret terms, conditions, exclusions, and riders, providing clarity on coverage and benefits.
  • Dispute Resolution: Mediate or negotiate settlements in disputes over beneficiary designations or policy interpretations.
  • Defense Against Fraud Allegations: Defend clients against accusations of fraud or misrepresentation made by insurance companies.
  • Bad Faith Claims: Pursue legal action against insurers who engage in bad faith practices, seeking compensation for damages.
  • Estate Planning Support: Advise on the integration of life insurance policies into estate plans, including beneficiary designations and tax considerations.

How Are Life Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Life insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in one of the following ways:

  • Contingency Fee: The lawyer receives a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the amount recovered from the insurance claim. This means you pay nothing upfront, and the lawyer only gets paid if you receive a settlement or judgment.
  • Hourly Rate: The lawyer charges an hourly fee for their services, with rates typically ranging from $200 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
  • Flat Fee: For specific services like reviewing a policy or drafting a demand letter, some lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer Fee: An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills their hourly rate. Retainer amounts vary based on the anticipated workload.
  • Payment Plans: Some lawyers offer flexible payment options to make their services more affordable.

It's important to discuss payment arrangements during your initial consultation to understand how fees and expenses will be handled.

How Much Does a Life Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a life insurance lawyer varies based on several factors:

  • Contingency Fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, you typically pay no upfront fees. The lawyer's fee will be a percentage of the recovery. For example, if you recover $100,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer would receive $30,000.
  • Hourly Rates: If charged hourly, total costs depend on the time required to resolve the case. For instance, if the lawyer charges $300 per hour and works 20 hours on your case, the cost would be $6,000.
  • Flat Fees: Services like policy reviews or simple consultations may cost between $500 and $2,000.
  • Additional Costs: Be aware of other expenses such as court filing fees, costs for obtaining documents, expert witness fees, and administrative expenses, which may be billed separately.

Always request a detailed fee agreement to understand all potential costs involved.

To make the most of your initial meeting with a life insurance lawyer, bring the following:

  • Correspondence: Any letters, emails, or communications with the insurance company, especially denial letters or requests for additional information.
  • Claim Documents: Copies of the claim filed, supporting documents provided, and any responses received.

  • Beneficiary Information: Documentation showing your designation as a beneficiary.
  • Medical Records: If applicable, any medical records that may be relevant to the case.
  • Questions and Concerns: Prepare a list of questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer's experience.

By being thoroughly prepared, you enable the lawyer to assess your situation effectively and provide tailored legal advice to address your life insurance concerns.
