Having had mixed experiences in the past with Attorneys, my wife and I entered Rob Uriarte's office distrustful and with low expectations. Presently, we feel grateful to have him working for us. Rob and Adam are personable, understanding, empathetic and most importantly, they are working with us and for us. At this time, our struggling financial situation has us worried, and Rob offered us payment arrangements that took stress off of our backs. He's worth every dollar and more. Rob, Abby and Adam are warm, efficient, and down to earth people. We highly recommend Uriarte and Wood.

I was in a bind with a tenant/landlord situation which had a lot of interweaving elements and complications. I was first put in contact with a lawyer who treated me as the problem and as if I was the adversary rather than someone on the same team. I had a problem and needed help, I didn't need a lawyer who was overbearing and knocking me around verbally, mentally and emotionally. I was already in a difficult situation that had several layers and components to its evolution. It was almost as if he saw me as part of the problem rather than as part of the solution. I needed a lawyer who would help me, not knock me down or weaken me further. I hesitated to have another experience with a lawyer, but I needed help. I knew if the situation was not realigned and balanced out that the situation was going to further degrade and potentially begin to have negative impact on my finances, credit, and more. I needed someone to intervene for me to level the score in the situation. I contacted Timothy. He responded very promptly (the day after my call). I forwarded the documents along with a brief clear outline of the situation by email. He read and reviewed the documents. By the next day I had a reply. His replies were clear, articulate, complete and peacefully caring and kind. The exchange of what he knew with what I knew was a collaboration (how it should be). He also left the dialog open all the time and didn't close the door on anything new arising or needing to be shared. After just a couple exchanges he offered an action plan suggestion (small action plan, but big enough to make a difference). I agreed happily. The next day he took action and the situation was resolved. It was that easy (I know I sound like a commercial, but it is true). He followed up with me to let me know what to expect. He also wanted to make sure the situation continued to progress as it should and requested confirmation. His simple intervention completely altered the situation back to a more respectful tenant/landlord situation. It set things up for the situation to be as it should be and did so without damaging me or the situation, but fixing it. It was a huge relief. Once the situation was rectified, he made sure that I knew he was available should things take a bad turn again. It was a relief to know that he was ready to get involved again as needed. The interactions were collaborative. I was able to relax knowing that I had someone on my side with some power to make a difference. Having Timothy's help was a blessing - he got me from a bad place to a better place. Highly recommended.

Bryan was hired for a breach of contract issue and he worked very hard on it! He was really good in advising us about the issues of law, coming up with defense plans, and showing great care for his clients. He works really hard on cases and isn't lazy like some other attorneys that I've previously worked with. He is very responsive through texts, calls, and emails. He gladly helps with other issues unrelated to the case and gives great advice! I definitely recommend this law office as they do a great job with cases. I strongly recommend Bryan on the basis that he provides great advice, works really hard on each case, easily accessible, and generally a great guy to work with! He is one of the best attorneys I have ever worked with.

My ex filed contempt charges against me and not having a lawyer, I went to yelp to find some good reviews and found Bryan Wong. From the first phone conversation, I was impressed. I did not have to deal with any legal secretaries or wait for a phone call back. He is very prompt, courteous, and professional. I must have called a dozen or so family law attorneys in the Orange County area and every single one of them had outrageous retainer fees and hourly wages. Bryan Wong was VERY reasonable with his fees. I couldn't believe that I could afford an attorney but I could and he is worth every penny! Not only is Bryan very prompt and professional, he also knows what he is doing and is a shark in the court room. He is ready, willing and able to fight for you in court. He kept me informed throughout the whole process of what he was planning on doing and how things were going. He asked for input and listens very well. He also works weekends and that makes it easy for those with a regular work schedule that only have the weekends to accommodate extra legal issues. I not only HIGHLY recommend Bryan Wong, I am keeping him as my lawyer for ALL of my legal issues from here on out.

I hired Joel Tamraz to help me with a civil suit. He seemed so nice, knowledgeable and helpful over the phone. Our first meeting should have been my first red flag. His office and desk were a mess, and he had msgs. stacked up on his desk from months back. I gave him all my information, signed a contract and gave him a retainer fee. I asked him to contact the opposing council immediately, and tell them he was representing me. In the meantime...I had some information I wanted to give him, and emailed him, and left several msgs. via phone. I never received any return emails or phone calls. I then received a large pkt. of information from the opposing council, with a lot of information and questions that had to be answered immediately. I had called Joel and he was not in, but I left a msg. with his assistant, saying it was very important, and I had to speak with him right away. This time he called back. We agreed to meet the next day. I had asked him again, if he let the opposing council know, that he was representing me. He said that he needed me to sign something first. Why didn't he have me sign the document the first day? He said he would email me then, so I could sign it. He never did. When he greeted me in the waiting room the next day, he introduced himself, as if we were meeting for the first time. I had to remind him, that we already knew each other. As we started going over everything, I realize he had done absolutely nothing on my case, it had been two weeks, and we were supposed to be ready for a court date soon. We went over some things, and he sent me home with homework. By the time I got into my car, I felt like I knew more about the procedures and the dos and don'ts about the case than he did. I had a contract that was breached, and he didn't even remember that, even though it was sitting right in front of him. He told me to add that to my information. Before I left his office that day, I told him to make sure he let the opposing council know, he was representing me...for the third time. I never heard anything back from him, so I STILL don't know if he did anything about it. After this, I decided to dispense of his services, and find a new attorney. I knew he was bad news. I wrote him a letter, to ask him to bill me for his hours, and return my unused portion of my retainer, which was thousands. I never heard back from him. I wrote him three times, and still nothing. If I could give this man negative five stars...I would. Do yourself a big favor. Do not go anywhere near him. You will be very sorry!

Joel Tamraz does an excellent job of winning cases against HOA's and resolving disputes. He is so successful that one HOA legal firm demanded he not represent people anymore against their association! I am currently working with him on a case and would recommend him to anyone. A + rating and experience.

We hired and fired him. In a couple of months he used up our retainer fee of $10,000. dollars. Of course the bills are not itemized. Our research shows that client's been suing him for Malpractice. He did not file our documents in time. He misplaced our documents when asked for them. He lied to use numerous of times. He sent documents to the wrong attorneys. I had to correct him. I thought I was working for him. ?? We agreed before we hired him along with a written document on things we needed done. Apparently months went by and nothing was done but the billing. No subpoenas or motions. Not even a phone call. He extended our court date a year out without our knowledge or consent. Later we found out he made agreements with opposing counsel. He has refused to turn over all correspondence's. He said he needed more time. ?? I asked Tamraz if he reviewed all the files. He said yes! I personally took some files out on purpose. Well he never reviewed the files. When I handed him the ones I took out. He put his head down and was silent. His excuse was that he was not taking his medications and wasn't feeling well. Tamraz is to old to perform his duties so he found an easy way out to deceive the clients for money. Make sure you have everything in writing. Record your conversations in his presents. If he refuses to do so that is a red flag. Do not hire him or you will be standing in line with the rest of us.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
