One of the best things I’ve done, during one of the most difficult times in my life was calling Andew Doktofsky. Andrew answered every question and guided me through some difficult and stressful times. He was always a phone call away, and I always had so many questions. He went over every step throughout my whole process. I can’t thank Andrew enough for his help and professionalism

In all truth, I bumped into dialogue with Counselor Houslanger completely by accident, under the erroneous impression that his firm was the latest to inherit an old judgment, presumed to be still in effect and in force, naming my mother as the Defendant, while in truth and in fact he was NOT the Counsel of Record. Nevertheless, he gave me an audience, he asked me for the Index #, he had the means and the desire to take some initiative in researching some basics about this old story, and as fate would have it, my mother's old judgment had been ordered to be vacated some five years earlier in a certain class-action matter. Counselor Houslanger then went out of his way to offer some basic instruction for the proper Pro Se steps to remedy the judgment in the Court of the first instance, which I imagine would have worked nicely if the Court staff at my mother's venue understood the procedure as well as he himself does. Bureaucrats seldom see beyond the scope of their own responsibilities, however. This attorney possesses a keen insight to the needs and concerns of ALL with whom he speaks, whether he's getting paid to listen and respond or not. And as long as he doesn't have any equity or interest in the other side of the case or docket, I'll call Todd Eric Houslanger before I call anyone, whether the matter to be addressed is a traffic summons, a criminal arrest, a debtor judgment, a divorce proceeding, a CBP Global Entry Reconsideration Hearing, a charge under the Espionage Act of 1917, or even a FISA Court matter. Regardless whether he'd be equipped and/or inclined to represent and/or to assist in the representation, this is clearly a man whose interactions are ALWAYS a matter of consequence. My only regret is that I encountered this man some seven years after my brother was crushed to death by a subway train. If there weren't so many liens pending in the current cause of action already, I'd fire all current counsel yesterday, and hire Todd Eric Houslanger today, without even checking his record of decisions in such matters. He knows the law; he knows procedure; and most importantly: he knows to treat EVERYONE well, and to speak to EVERYONE with respect, DESPITE the fact the ones with whom he speaks DO NOT have a title or even a degree. THIS one's an ATTORNEY people. NOT a fast-talking, used-car salesman with a license to practice law. NOT some JD who passed the Bar, and believes his license GIVES him license to be ill-mannered. I'm fully mindful that his fortes are in prosecuting debt collection, and in defending traffic-related and criminal matters. But once every great while, a man comes along who is so brilliant, so personable, and so well-mannered, that one truly cannot tell what is beyond the abilities of Todd Eric Houslanger's legal acumen, unless and until one discusses the matter WITH him, and dares to ask if he can help. Some 40 years ago I dared to debate William Rehnquist when I was a high school senior. Anyone familiar with that name should understand what I mean when I say that Counselor Houslanger is a genuine attorney, and a brilliant, well-mannered, and thoughtful gentleman.

Very knowledgeable, considerate, and compassionate One being a character not always found in every attorney. When an attorney states not interested because a significant monetary gain is not involved, one is then forced to ask - why is that more of a priority than supporting and protecting the Rights of those who come to you for help - - like the oath doctors take, Do no harm. When consideration and compassion are removed from any matter/situation what really exists? Thank You to each and every attorney who responded to my question and a very special Thanks to Attorney Damadeo because you restored my belief that not everyone values monetary gains instead of Justice being the Priority so that it always Prevails.

He told me what he could do for me and he actually did what he said he was going to do very quickly and efficiently. Whenever I had a question he was always very good at getting back to me in a short period of time with an answer. The result of his work on my case is absolutely phenomenal... I could have never predicted such a successful outcome. I recommend Mr. Damadeo with the highest degree of confidence!

Mr. Goldstein represented me with respect to allegations of zoning violations and disputed claims of land ownership with respect to waterfront property. Resolution of the matter required research into very old land records and marshaling of testimony with respect to the age and use of structures erected prior to enactment of land and waterfront building codes. I was impressed by his knowledge of the law and his ability to focus on the critical issues. His representation of me before the zoning board was first-rate, as were his efforts on my behalf during the lengthy and difficult negotiations that followed the hearing. The final result was exceptional. He is an excellent lawyer.

Jeff researched exactly how to show the court my relation to the opposing party was seminal to the outcome I was seeking. Jeff understood the crisis from his humanitarian point of view, and gave me the support to endure the time it took until it was most favorably resolved. No bullshit misleadings, giving me clarity on the nature of the opposition, and clarity on the legal process itself - in court and out of court. Friendly, honest, knowledgeable ... Mr. Fine is the only lawyer, (and believe me, I've called several) that was willing to really listen to me , not assume he had all the facts. He took the time to understand my problem, then explained my options making sure I completely understood everything he had to say. If I had any questions, and I can honestly say, I didn't have many, he explained thoroughly without giving me that annoying "I've already explained this" attitude you get from most lawyers. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that! Mr. Fine returned my calls without hesitation and walked me through the entire procedure. A+ lawyer.

I wish there was a 6th star to add to this review for Mr. Peter Groffmann. NOT ONLY is he an amazing attorney, but he is a kind human. Mr. Groffman has handled two traffic incidents for me, both were frivolous attempts at a money grab against a driver who in 30 years of driving hasn't had so much as parking ticket. Mr. Groffman recognized this, saw the flaws in these tickets and followed through to get them reduced and/or dismissed. He is EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, I know that fighting tickets isn't all he does. The firm specializes in Estate planning & administration and I can only imagine that he is PHENOMINAL at that as well. I know this because when you are talking to him, it's like talking to an actual human being. Peter is a kind person, he doesn't talk down to you, and although his knowledge of the law of course FAR supercedes the client, he listens in a way that is compassionate and caring. Once I have the time, he will be my go to for estate planning, which I imagine can be a delicate and sensitive topic to discuss. Heck, I can only imagine that sharing your final wishes with an attorney can be an emotional thing to do. You are literally discussing your choices to be carried out after death with a stranger. I KNOW in my heart that Mr. Groffmann handles each client with kindness & a warm heart, because that's who he is. And although I can't speak personally about his estate planning skills as an attorney b/c that would be disengenious, I can tell you that when you step in a room with him, or even speak on the phone, you just know you're in good hands. I think it takes about 10 seconds to recognize a good human being, and it may even take less once you meet Peter. DO NOT HESITATE if you're selecting your attorney for this delicate matter, to call him. I don't know what other legal services his office covers, but I can guarantee you that if you put your trust and faith in Mr. Groffmann's hands, you will not be disappointed. Thats a 6 star guarantee. Thanks Peter! You are truly an amazing attorney & dare I say, an even better human. Which if anyone has had experience with other attorneys, you cannot always hold both their ability AND their character as equally high, but with Mr. Groffmann you certainly can give him 6 stars for both.

Alex was recommended to me by a personal judge/friend of mine. I attest, he is a very thorough and competent professional who always had my best interests in mind. I was always informed immediately on any task that required my involvement and directed me in a highly professional and warm way. He never missed or rescheduled a meeting and always and I mean always, took my calls or called back within minutes in rare form. What I especially appreciated about John was his confidence and knowledge of the law and unyielding pursuit of all details. If something was unknown, he would not hypothesize, but obtain the facts unequivocally. Alex is in my opinion, superior in his field, while applying a kind presence - unusual for this field. "Location, location, location,” that’s IT in real estate…Hiring a divorce attorney? The three rules are experience, experience, experience… Experience – the knowledge of marital law, especially in your jurisdiction, and how to apply it. Experience – knowing how to deal with every circumstance, whether it’s standard procedure, or something from left field. Experience – the “people skills” to corral even the wackiest behavior of opponents (or clients!). After years of marital un-rest, the divorce papers finally materialized and I was determined to hire the best. Mercifully, there were no custody matters; financial issues dominated the agenda – a hefty inheritance, pension awards, health and other insurances, plus the usual perks of a mid-life, well-lived: A modest investment portfolio, a home on the beach on Long Island, a house in the country, a boat, luxury cars, and the gem, a one-bedroom, pied-à-terre apartment in the heart of NYC’s Greenwich Village. My wife opted to re-hire a general-purpose attorney she had used is a previous low-budget divorce. Big mistake. Carl Wand, Esq. was the 1998 Yankees vs. a Triple-A, team. More than once, after a conference or appearance in court, Wand came to me saying “this guy doesn’t know this,” or “he’s overlooked such-and-such.” My wife’s counsel was simply over-matched. Put bluntly, Carl and his team ‘hammered’ the opposition. In the end, both parties got what was coming to them, but to even a casual observer, I was the “winner.” (assuming there’s any WINNER in a divorce…) When hiring counsel, I cannot overstate the value of an efficient, responsive, support staff. As with any legal proceeding, there were lots of phone calls, emails, etc. But Wand and Goody is different…kind of old-school. My calls to the office were always answered by a REAL person. Not some intern or receptionist, but an informed staffer that expedited a resolution to my concerns. In fact, my calls were usually routed immediately to Mr. Wand’s personal assistant. In these days of voice mails, e-mails, text messages, and endless phone-trees, I find this remarkable and reassuring. A final note: After an equitable split on the sale of the L.I. home, and a few dollars exchanged, I ended-up with free-and-clear-ownership of the Greenwich Village apartment. To any New Yorker, that’s a win-win.

If you are seeking excellence in law this is by and far the best of the best available anywhere.Every recommendation I have ever made to others has always resulted in gratitude. What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
