Karolina made our whole experience so easy and personal. Kept us informed, asked how I was, and in general was on our case until it was complete. I would have no problem recommending Vaughan if you are in need of someone. It is so satisfying to be able to have a settlement at last for something that will affect me for the rest of my life.

1st want to start off by saying that Mr. Vaughn and his entire staff makes you feel like family. Jillena was my attorney and she did it, she is the bomb. I have been to Mr. Vaughns office for many issues and if he can’t handle it he will find someone that can. Mrs. Elizabeth my new sister, she answers more calls from me than I can count. The entire staff is so welcoming and it really made a difference in me choosing this law firm. If you want to be treated like family call Mr. Vaughn and he can get the job done. I will continue to use them for all my legal issues.

During his begining tenure with Stuart and Branigan, John Stuckey was assigned my law suit against Tioga Pines Living Center. I was a single mother, with custody of a young daughter, who had been required by the management of the nursing facility to work off of the clock to perform my duties, subsequently terminated when my position was combined with another position in a further gambit to save money by the administrator. Although evidence was available showing the administrator had, in her own hand, changed my time card, as well as there being documentation papers in patient's charts that accurately showed the times I was working, this was not an easy case to take to trial. The initial apposing attorney was Stephen Buyer, prior to his election as an Indiana State Congressman. Although my claim was initially filed in small claims court, Buyer requested and was granted a trial by jury. The principal owner of the facility was a larger contributor to the White County Republican party, with both Buyer and the presiding judge being major players in the local Republican party as well. No one considered my suit would have much of a chance to be successful, with one exception ~ John Stuckey. As my attorney, if he had any doubts, he never showed them to me. He was very clear about what I could expect in deposition, in court, and showed the jury an earnest young attorney who believed in his client and in the merits of the case. Due to his skill in questioning witnesses, after five days in court, the jury voted in my favor, by unanmious vote. Even more surprising was the ruling by Judge Roth that the court fees and all attorney costs were to be paid by Tioga Pines Living Center. My understanding is this verdict and finding caused huge ripples in the political community at the time. I would highly recommend John Stucky as a principled, trustworthy and honest man who is still, after all of these years, earnestly interested in his clients and seeing them through the sometimes bewildering court process. I have watched his career over the years with interest and never found him to waver from my inital, first high opinion of his skills, not merely as an attorney, but also as an outstanding individual. I am pleased to have the opprotunity to let others know of his long term principles, honor, and integrity as an attorney and as a member of his community in his chosen profession.

A constant light in the darkness! I needed someone during the hardest days of my life, and Abby Neely was there. We worked on a nearly 2 year long contested custody dispute, which involved a number of lengthy contempt citations, 3 Final Hearings, and over 100 billable hours. She was there from day one to support, and guide me through the process. She propped me up when I needed it, and delivered hard truths when I needed to hear them. She never promised what she couldn't deliver, always prepared me for the worst, and had a path forward in case it didn't work out. I have and will continue to recommend her for anyone seeking an honest and respectable family law attorney in our area! When you search for "Best Family Law Attorney in Lafayette", I hope your search ends with Abby!

Laura Blaydes did a fantastic job with my case. She is very knowledgeable and respectable from judge to client. She communicates well and was very patient with me and my family as we were looking into the best options. The entire firm as a whole does a spectacular job and truly care for their clients. My brother also hired a lawyer in this firm and was quite impressed with his outcome. Laura allowed me to start a payment plan to be able to afford her representation comfortably and trusted us with no issue. I respect that. She truly made me feel safe and secure. I trust her and this law firm and would 10/10 recommend them to anyone and everyone battling legal troubles.

Late last year I had a work related legal issue and was frustrated trying to find a qualified Attorney to discuss the problem with in the Lafayette area. In a conversation with another Lawyer, I was told that there is only one qualified Attorney for work related issues, Jason Ramsland. I reached out to him and he was willing to discuss my situation, making a time that was convenient for me and more importantly he made himself available immediately. The fact that another Attorney gave such as strong recommendation of Mr. Ramsland was reassuring in and of itself. Then, I was impressed with the ensuing discussion I had with Mr. Ramsland. He actually listened and came across as someone who was focused on providing me with an honest appraisal of my situation rather than just trying to get my money. Unlike some others I had talked to who promised everything, Mr. Ramsland gave me an honest review of my situation and provided me with some key concepts to watch for going forward. My circumstance has yet to develop to a problem where I require legal assistance but I am confident that I now know who to call in Lafayette should I require a great advocate to stand up for me, and that is James Ramsland.

I hired Christine for a highly contentious custody and divorce case. I couldn’t be happier with the results. However, if you are thinking of hiring her, please know beforehand that it is pertinent to listen to and follow whatever advice she gives you. Don’t be like me, save yourself time and money by listening to her from the moment you hire her. She knows what she is doing. Her and Traci are the best! She can come off as stern but it is for your own good and what is best for your case. She has continued to answer any questions that I have had after the agreement was filed and the divorce was finalized. I honestly don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t hired her, but I can assure you it wouldn’t be any place good. As a DV survivor, I want you to know, she will advocate for you. She will defend you. Hire her today, don’t wait.

I am impressed! I cannot express my gratitude for the Law Office of Mr. Kirk Freeman. Kirk along with his kind, comforting knowledgeable staff, absolutely will not allow the County, LPD or anyone along the way to be bullies or make their own rules as they go without severe consequences. From the moment I first spoke to Kirk he has been diligently addressing my situations and my concerns. Kirk dove into my case from the highest diving board in the shallowest of waters unscathed, only to continue to dive deeper. As we all know Tippecanoe County and most (not all) other attorneys are being social with high priced black label the rocks & whacking balls together so either way the client is screwed. Meanwhile the prosecutor and the hired attorney high five each other and say “we let this one go, the next one we max him out!” How disgusting, this isn’t fair justice. However, This is Tippecanoe county. They do as they wish, and do not bat an eye at whomever they drag through the mud along the way. KIRK FREEMAN WILL STAND UP FOR YOU!! He isn’t golfing and drinking with his colleagues. He isn’t impressed with money, the notoriety, nor the status quo that comes along with being an attorney. He is extremely knowledgeable and can find loopholes, errors and mistakes(sometimes that’s all u need to get a case dismissed) Most importantly Kirk is not intimidated by the corrupt system. KIRK IS ONE OF THE GREATEST, he became and attorney for all the right reasons, and that in itself is massively different from most. He fights for justice, for your rights, for fair treatment, and isn’t worried about who he pisses off in the process. I can tell you from my own experience and perspective, after consulting with dozens and that’s not a stretch, dozens of attorneys in about a 10 month span, Kirk is the only one who listened to, heard me and instantly started the battle. When all others simply decided they didn’t want to get involved. As they were hesitant and possibly just intimidated to go against their “friends” at the county court house and/or LPD in fear of losing those relationships. If you’re sick of being tossed around and looked at like another nothing criminal, while sitting at some high priced swanky attorneys office, take my advice and run with it. Hire Kirk Freeman, regardless of situation or price. After all, what is the price tag on your name, freedom, dignity and security. Tell Mr. Kirk Freeman, Rachel Devine sent you! You'll be glad you did.

Judge Randy Williams is a loose cannon. If you are scheduled to go in front of him, you better hope he is having a good day. One bad instance throughout the day and he will take it out on anyone that goes in front of him after. He tried to drop out of his campaign for reelection but didnt do it in time. He said he was going to step down, that was about 4 years ago. He will tell you something will only take a few days, then take months to do it. I wish I had good things to say about Judge Williams, he has been fair to me in my dealings with him. But it is definitely time for him to step down.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
